Wii are headed into year 2. Predictions? Wishes?

All I want right now... is for NiGHTS to not suck. For the love of GOD, Sega. Please. Those screenshots are scaring people. And it looks like the damn game is on rails again. There's no reason for that game to be on rails at this point. Why did you push Yuji Naka away? Why are you pushing your fans away?!?!

*cough* Sorry.

Predictions: More channels that will only be fun for 3 weeks. Badly needed updates to the Mii channel. Not my candy apple red wii. I finally get around to buying one and some sort of new super special awesome hardware update comes out (Nintendo ALWAYS does this to me).

Pokemon Snap NEEDS to happen. Not just on the VC. They need to make a new Pokemon Snap.

The concept of that game.. with Wii's functionality are just MEANT for each other.
On rails, taking pictures. That's all you do. Well, you throw bait and stuff to make things happen :)..but still.
Pokemon Snap for 64, you got to take your cartridge to Blockbuster (or was it Toys R Us) and print out your best photos. How awesome was that? Now, we'll be able to keep our favorites on the message board..and even send them to other people who care (or don't care! :) )

The original was based off Pokemon Red and Blue..which consisted of 151 Pokemon. Now? We have like.. 493? (am I right?) We have 4 or 5 different regions. The game itself could be huge. Throw in some DS => Wii compatibility and the old school Pokemon fans would nerdgasm BIG time!

If ANYTHING, they better just release the original on the VC.

Its critical that VanillaWare's Oboro Muramasa Youtouden sell well. Not just because its a very small 3rd party, but also because its a niche genre.

You can expect me to be leading the forum promo campaign on the matter when the time comes.

Also, No More Heroes, which I'll probably buy despite not being a fan of the genre.
Pokemon Snap NEEDS to happen. Not just on the VC. They need to make a new Pokemon Snap.
God, yes. What a wondeful (if criminally short) experience that game was.
Two Words
Punch Out
If I may contribute two words of my own:

NINJA GOLF

I'm looking forward to Smash Bros Brawl, the Kirby game (It's supposedly the canceled Gamecube game ported over to the Wii), and No More Heroes is definitely catching my eye..I don't know if I'll buy that one but I will surely check it out.

Unannounced things I'd like: The Wii needs to allow for some sort of external storage for the VC, badly. Nintendo should at least allow use of a USB drive for that reason. I'd like to keep my VC games in one neat place.

The thing that made me reply to this though is something that's un-announced that I'd personally like to see. Either an All new, true 2-d Mario along the lines of New Super Mario DS..I'd also be very happy with, and again I know the odds are enormously slim of a Mario All-Stars Wii developed by EAD Tokyo that includes Mario 1, 2, 3, and World. They could do each of those games in 3D plus have super enhanced 2D Wii versions. Can ya imagine especially what Mario 3 and World would look like in 3D? If they did that right it would be something to see. Just my 2 cents.

I wish you great luck with this, you'll need it. Unless you're using "well" in relative terms. Odin Sphere didn't sell well by most definitions and it was on PS2.

Wishes:
- Smash is delayed
- in the interim Nintendo revamps it's entire online architechture to allow cool awesomeness like basic things. Friends lists with names instead of numbers, universal names, /maybe/ voice but definitely some sort of communication
- Starfox in a space craft
- a solution to the storage problem (512)
- some more of that sweet sweet third-party lovin
- more games that use the DS like FF:CC, Animal Crosing, Zelda WW.

P.S. I still hate the name Wii. Quite frankly I'm not a fan of the name DS either.

Hopes and Dreams for 2k8
by t0llenz

I wish that the Wii would have remakes of Duck Hunt and Punch Out. I'm talking about a real remake of Duck Hunt with the 3D-ish Ducks seen in Wii Play, a reinvention of the original Duck Hunt dog, and a skeet shooting system similar to that from Mario & Sonic at the Olympics. Keep it simple and make it worthwhile to play using the Wii Zapper. On that same note, I'd like to see Duck Hunt on the Virtual Console...the original one utilizing the Wii-mote

In terms of Punch Out, I was really hoping to see Little Mac as a playable character in Brawl, but since that's not going to happen as he's an assist trophy, I hope they'll make a new version of Punch Out that could even start as a very fleshed out version of Boxing from Wii Sports.

I'd also like a sequel to Puzzle Quest for both the Wii and DS. I know, that's a little preemptive, but I want it by mid to late 2008. I'd also like it if battles can be had wirelessly between DS and Wii editions.

I would also like to see both Fallout 3 and the next installment of the Katamari games to come to the Wii. Both look wonderful and both are games I'd like to play on the Wii.

I would also like a new Wii Sports title with more elaborate versions of some of the sports, (i.e. controlling the runners/fielders in Baseball, selecting more than 4 colors of balls for Bowling, allowing for multiple courses for Golf and a few more club options, etc). I'd also like to see the inclusion of a few more sports, like Football or Lacross.

Onto other games that I know will be there. I hope that Brawl is as amazing as it looks. Getting my Sonic v. Mario dreams out in a foot race is fun and all, but it just gets sad seeing Sonic zip past Mario or see Sonic sink to the bottom because he can't swim in Olympic swimming. I also hope that NiGHTS doesn't suck. I'm looking forward to playing it and really hope it's beautiful and simple enough. I hope that Mario Kart comes out with motion controls that work well. I've played Cars enough and want a really nice Mario racing game for the Wii. I also hope that Mario Kart brings in Wario in his new attire we see him in the WarioWare games and Brawl...and that Waluigi disappears forever.

And finally, I'd like first party Wii-mote chargers. That would be incredible, especially if it work well with the Wii-slip grip cover already left on it.

Now, I know I'm getting my hopes up a little too high with this wishlist, but a guy can dream, can't he?
I'll take a price drop and some color choices like they teased with when they first showed it off.
there won't be a price drop for a while, and really it's not needed. the system starts at a reasonable price and is well worth the $250. If they did do a price drop, it would be minimal and wii sports would no longer be packaged with it. Economically, the Big N is making so much money off the Wii right now, they have absolutely no reason to even think of a price drop.

What I want more than anything is the fulfillment of the promise of a vibrant online experience. For this first year, I had (admittedly unrealistic) visions of more than enough channels to fill up all 4 menu screens, a truly connected network of Wii users, my console's blue light constantly alerting me to new goings-on... So far, many of the channels have been largely irrelevant or passe. On the bright side, I can start to see the gears turning...

My wishes:

1. TWO WORDS: CHIBI ROBO! In contrast to the DS version, the Wii version would actually be focused on the exploration and puzzle aspects that made the Gamecube game great.

2. Animal Crossing with an expanded world and improved AI

I would love to have additional towns/caves/islands/whatever to visit beyond my own village, perhaps ones that are only "available" at certain times of the year: for example you can go to a farming area during a Fall Festival, go to a Ski Village during winter, or just plain a different town or "park.'

I'd also like for villagers to come and go and RETURN. I'd love to have a character who left my town come back, and comment on what they were doing during the 6 months they were gone. I would also love it if, when you visit another town and see a character you once had in your town that the character would recognize you (this could easily be done by having a little part of the save file record every character who has lived in your town).

Another feature I'd enjoy would be the ability to place holiday decorations OUTSIDE your home (jack o'lanterns, Christmas--uh, festive-- trees, etc), plus a museum for the gyroids.

3. Co-op games in the spirit of Lego Star Wars--i.e. fun games with really easy pick-up-and-play dynamics, drop-in-and-out co-op, but lots of exploration and hidden surprises for adults.

4. Wind Waker or similar cell-shaded graphics Zelda game.

5. Pikmin Wii
Mother 3 on Virtual Console in English.

If they can bring Sin and Punishment over, why not Mother 3?

They can bring all the Square RPGs they want, Mario RPG, Chrono, etc. I don't care. I already own those and can play them when ever I feel. No need to spend money on them.

This is the only game that can sell me a Wii at the moment. I've got such a backlog of great RPGs that I can wait until $99.99 Wii if it comes to it.
Sin and Punishment was light on the translations. Mother 3 would not be, making the cost of a VC release higher.

Not impossible, just more expensive.

Wii Year 2.

Hopes:

Katamari on the Wii (it writes its own theme song!)

Pulseman worldwide Virtual Console release (honk if you remember Sega Channel)

Square Enix Virtual Console support for something other than frickin' KING'S KNIGHT! (that is, if THAT even comes out here... never played it, but I heard it's lousy.) This means Super Mario RPG! Chrono Trigger! TERRANIGMA!

Dear Square: do what Hudson's doing. Turn scalper bait loose on the Virtual Console for 8 bucks. We know you like money, so bring some of it away from ebay and into your pockets. If it helps you pay the Dragon Quest IX localization team that much faster...

This goes for you too, Nintendo (Earthbound, Super Mario RPG), Sega (Shining Force II), Konami (Dracula X), Atlus (Crusader of Centy), Capcom (Final Fight 2 & 3, Megaman, Strider), D4 (Musha, Guardian Legend), SNK (Samurai Shodown II, KoF '95, and lotsa fighting games so I can use my fighting stick), and the rest of you.

Virtual Console controller configuration options.

Demo Channel, with Mother 3 DS announcement goodness.

For Nights to meet or exceed my expectations.

Predictions:

Sega and Square will continue to suffer from cranial-rectal inversion, denying us the games we love because their excuse generator still works (Sega) or in the pursuit of teh munneez (Square).

No Mother 3.

The Sailor Moon game will be released, and Datel will release a Freeloader so I can play it. Then 2 days later, Nintendo releases a critical firmware update to fix the broken Wii Message Board functionality of Pokemon Snap. I download this, and it bricks my Wii.

No Earthbound either.

No Super Mario RPG.

No Chrono Trigger.

No Terranigma.

Sega and Square merge to become SegaSammySquareSuckitwe'residingwiththescalpersbuyFF7-2plzkthx.

Capcom is denied a release of the good Disney games unless even the NES ones are sold for 1000 Wii points each.

No Pulseman.

All of us get to rant, rave, or both about at least one of the above.

Wishes

1. More RPG games (VC and Wii), I don't care who makes them or releases them as long as they are good.

2. DS Download Channel in America.

3. A Sci Fi First Person Shooter (Metroid doesn't count here since it has more adventure elements and puzzles in it. I want a straight shooter).

4. A way to save VC games (as of SD cards or USB devices).

5. More good import games.

My girlfriend when I introduced her to AC decided to up and make a whole new town for herself. (I think she wasn't working because I tried to explain to her how much upkeep it would be and she did it anyway) Anyway she had a whole new town on one of my spare mem cards and I would visit it and she would take her original character and visit it and characters would leave my town for hers. When I visited they would recognize me.. or even worse get me to do tasks cross town. I used to hate when people would give me stuff for that lion that left my town. Occasionally.. they would even come back. I had a cat who left and then came back.

Wheres my Battleclash 3!?

Yeah, Battleclash 3. Especially if it was two player, one controls the mecha, the other is the gunner. Then bundle in Battleclash 1 and 2, and make it all work with, or without the Zapper.

Oh, and RTS games PLEASE. Port some Command & Conquer, Age of Whatever, and gawd forbid... StarCraft to the Wii.

And Pikmin, of course! =)

One thing I would love to see, though it'll likely never happen, is Smartball (aka Jerry Boy) come out on Virtual Console. It was a great SNES game from the guys who would later create Pokemon. It got mediocre reviews when it released but something about that game has always stuck with me, most notably its catchy soundtrack.

Unfortunately, the game was published by Sony...

Been on the edge about a Wii recently. Just because its pretty cheap and Smash is on its way. If the Wii could somehow get a port of Culdcept Saga, I'd be all over it. The game is very popular in Japan, but is currently only on the 360. The graphics look like something the Wii could handle, and the fanbase in Japan is definitely there, so I'm hoping the developers come to their senses and port it either to the Wii or the Ps3.

Sequel to Star Tropics (LOL, never going to happen).
Elimination of friend codes (also never going to happen)
Black Wii (cause I want to buy another one and loose all my downloads)
Animal Crossing Wii gets a date (probably the last Wii game I want).

That’s about it. After Smash and Animal Crossing the Wii will probably be a coaster for me.

You missed out on Zack & Wiki, didn't you?

Can't stand adventure games. Don't have the attention span for them, have to have a lot of action and have total control of my character to enjoy a game. So I'm mainly into stuff like FPS, platformer, action-rpg (like zelda), racers, fighting games etc.

Still tempted to give it a rental sometime based on all the hype here, but it really doesn't sound like my cup of tea.

If that's the case, I can guarantee you'll hate it. Certainly try it, because who knows. But based on what you wrote, all the signs point to "no."

Yep, that's the reason I'm in no hurry to try it. I'm sure it's a great game in the genre, but just not up my alley.

I do research for a living, so I don't like to deal with tedium, a lot of thinking/puzzle solving etc. when I find time to do some gaming. Just want to veg out and shoot shit most of the time. :D

What field?

Wii is a haven for casual gamers and i see no reason why it will slow down in 2008. Smash will undoubtably be the Best Wii game of 2008 unless Mario Kart and Wii Fit can surpass it but with all the hype and features in this one game I think its pretty much a done deal. This would be the game to push me towards getting a wii but I also agree a Star Fox sequel to Star fox 64 would be even more tempting. Aside from these titles Animal crossing, Pikmin, and Kirby can be good but not titles everyone will wanna pick up. I'd say if nintendo really wants to gain more fans they should create some new ips and steadily continue to make the high quality franchises they already stated. How about another Eternal Darkness experience or another Zack and Wiki game? Even Punch Out is a cool idea but new and improved for the wii.

wishes
hopefully a better online system.
more options for making miis
achievement like rewards via miis. Like wombat mentioned many cagcasts ago ie get a link or mario hat for doing stuff etc
storage drive support either by jumpdrive or harddrive
that mario kart wii will be balanced correctly. no more annoying blue shells
animal crossing wii to allow you to make some crazy creations ie furniture, vehicles, artwork, or make mini games. Have video game items that will let you play your vc games in animal crossing. Kind of like if you visited my town and i bought sin and punishment on the vc we would play it together if you came to my house. Crazy idea that wont happen but it takes me back to being a kid and being able to play a certain game whenever i was over at friends house.

prediction
however nintendo tries to make mario kart where people with no experience can compete with skilled players it will fail, thus hardcore people wont like it. The motorcycles will just be a pointless afterthought

I could have sworn they confirmed a Wii Katamari game at some point. Fallout 3 ... I wouldn't hold my breath, considering the graphics level they're shooting for.

Wants:

- A reduction in shovelware and obvious make-a-quick-buck crappy ports.
- More multiplayer games; fewer minigames
- More DS/Wii connectivity.
- Wii point giveaways or sales

Expectations:

- Crappy, third-rate online
- No price reductions on anything
- Wii Fit will be a novelty

On the whole, I think it was a remarkable year. For a system with a very different direction and focus, there were a number of really good games. Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Excite Truck, Zack and Wiki, Metroid. There's also a lot of other quality titles.

Unfortunately, the Wii is also a dumping ground for crap. Nintendo has seemingly let loose the floodgates on Wii and DS. This is not good, and has nothing to do with "casual" gaming. It drags down gaming as a whole and pisses people off. I'm not sure what Nintendo's goal is with letting apparently anything through.

MyNintendo, after being completely pointless for years, is finally cranking out some good stuff. Yeah, I can be bought for some stylii. I'd kill for giveaway Wii points, but this year's goodies are an awfully good start.

Nintendo's online "strategy" is baffling. I get the child friendly angle. But they have so much potential, and they seem to be in a race to the bottom with Sony for Biggest Disappointment. I don't see this changing anytime soon.

Yeah, I'm very worried about that game. Especially if it only has tilt controls, and no option to use a normal control scheme--be it GC controller, CC, or steering with the Nunchuck.

Want:
Noticing the success of big titles like Rock Band, where many accessories can be used and the internet adds to the replayability (at a cost), Nintendo puts a lot of resources into connecting its many accessories to the Wii.
The first game to use these features is a pokemon MMORPG, where a microphone is used to give commands to pokemon, a connected DS (with the latest pokemon game) serves as a pokedex, and the wii-mote/nunchuck is used in movement/actions.
At E3, the game is praised as a huge breath of fresh air for the franchise. When released, the Pokemon MMORPG (which has a monthly fee) finally gives hardcore gamers a reason to use their Wii.

What will actually happen:
Internet features (Outside of VC) will be dropped completely

Any serious third party titles in 2008 will be experiments with the wiimote. Ideas that fail discourage developers from trying again, ideas that succeed are quickly stolen and used in shovelware, still discouraging developers.
These design limitations cause another Gamecube, where nintendo games are the only real blockbusters. Although Wii continues to make piles and piles of money, there are constant drought periods where the casual audience plays nothing and the hardcore audience turns somewhere else for games.

Wow! I wasn't aware--I never had anyone else play the Cube version besides me. I wonder if this feature wasn't able to be included in the DS version, because I have visited a friend's town a few times and they never recognize me. Very cool! thanks for the info

I might get a Wii this chrismas... but I guess from the outside looking in.. I'd like to have cheaper VC games, Wii sports 2, and Scene it and buzz type of games.

Wish: People would stop flipping Wii's so those of us late-comers could get one at the MSRP.

Hell, at this point even $100 over MSRP is cheap.

I almost purchsed a gamecube so I could play all my old cube games, namely the resident evil series. Now I'm just waiting to get lucky and find a Wii.
