Wii Play going to be rare?

Was at Wal-mart tonight and they had it in the case. The price was turned around though, so they might not be selling them yet. Dayton, OH btw.

Ha, I'm in for the night, so I'm not going out to hunt for it, but I called the Wal-Mart that's close to me (less than a couple of miles) and they said it was not available yet.

So I'll just stick to the original plan of heading to Target and Best Buy in the morning in hopes one of 'em hasn't sold out yet. By the sounds of it, I might not have much to worry about.

I put it through its paces (review for X-Play). I like Billiards, Laser Hockey, and Table Tennis (multiplayer only). The other stuff is kind of forgettable. It's neat to see Miis get used so much, but the two Mii-centric games are the worst of the bunch. It's kind of dumbed down, like a tutorial or a demo, rather than an actual game. I think it's worth dropping $10 more than a separate remote for, but I wouldn't pay more than, say, $20 for the software itself.

Review for X-Play? You mean Adam and Morgan don't review the games themselves?!?!?!

What exactly do the "personalities" do on G4 besides show up on TV?

Well, I think a good VC game would be more justified for spending $10 on a game. Unless your that into messing aroud with the wiimote. I personally dont care for it.

Yes, it comes in its own shrinkwrapped DVD case which is inside the larger box with the wiimote.
So I put off preordering the game and I tried to do it yesterday but low and behold the stores are not preordering anymore. I am just wondering, do people think Wii Play is going to be scarce? I know many people just ordered this game to get a free Wiimote but is there going to be a game only option? I'm not too concerned about getting another wiimote because I can always buy one, but I'm just afraid the game itself will pull an Electroplankton or something
Yes, because only a million were made so if you don't open it for ten years you'll be rich.

You're a little late with the joke there, pal.
picked up wii play from best buy in cuyahoga falls, ohio a couple hours ago. $42.50 after $10 coupon
Bah! I drove 20 miles to Best Buy only to be told they had a HUGE message on their computer warning them not to sell it until tomorrow! Damn you! (Yes, I know, I should have called first but I figured they wouldn't even know what the hell I was talking about, plus I was in a hurry to get out of the house). Oh well, was hoping to use the coupon but I don't know if I can drag myself back up there again tomorrow morning.

I just got it from Walmart. They had to page someone because it was late (around midnight), and when she walked up and asked what I wanted, I pointed to the Wii case and said a game. She opened it up and immediately got Wii Play, so I guess they have been selling pretty good. There were only a couple left.

I also went to another Walmart before, and they were all out, but they did have plenty of Nunchucks, classic controllers, and Wii Points cards. First time I've seen the 'chucks and CCs on shelves since launch. No single remotes though (I'm sure all the one's Nintendo could manufacture went into WiiPlay boxes).

As far as the game goes, I haven't played it a ton, but it's definately worth the $10 extra. I really like the cow riding game where you have to knock over the scarecrows. A few of the games seem a little hard at first and the remote doesn't seem to react to well, but I assume that like almost all other games, it will get better after I play them a few times.

I almost think Nintendo should have bundled this in instead of Wii Sports. Maybe a $229 WiiPlay bundle instead of $249, and then sell Wii Sports for $29, and don't have any remote/game bundle. I mean, it would be the same price eventually for the consumer to buy Wii/WiiPlay/WiiSports/WiiMote ($300), but the console itself is cheaper and still comes with a game, plus theres another really good game out for relatively cheap. I guess they just wanted to hold off to the lean monthes to give WiiOwners something to buy.

Yeah, my kids and I played through it Monday night (I was able to find one at a local store I wasn't expecting it to be at - but for the full $50, so I may still try to get a Best Buy copy for $40 to exchange). It is fun, but very short and shallow - well worth the $10 though ;).

It could very well have just been a pack-in with the system at launch (or instead of Wii Sports as you suggest). Though I think BOTH should have come with it!

But, yeah, the reason is probably to fill the gaps between other game releases.

My two sons were having a blast with this though. They *really* like the tank game - I just wish there was a way to keep playing through the later stages as they invariably die before getting through about 6 of them (and then have to start over).

This is definitely better as a 2-player game. I haven't played the single myself, but I can tell you it is a lot of fun against another person.

Here's the IGN review:
http://wii.ign.com/articles/763/763835p1.html

They only give it a 5.5, which I wholeheartedly disagree with. It doesn't even follow from the text of the review. They fully explain that this is a $10 pack-in game with a remote and say it is worth it as such - but then give the low score. I don't quite get it. In particular, I disagree with their 4.0 score for the graphics. I think the graphics are a step above Wii Sports and are perfectly suitable. They wouldn't rate a 10 because of the simplistic style, but there's nothing WRONG with them, which is what I'd reserve a 4.0 for. I mean, even their comment after the graphics score doesn't match the score . I think the graphics in the laser hockey game are quite cool actually (the glowing paddles and the trails everything leaves).

They also pan the duck hunt game as short and boring - I agree, as a SINGLE player game. But play it with someone else and it is a whole different game (since you are competing for the targets and get to shoot the ones with their Mi on it while avoiding shooting your own).

Using the type of scale game review sites use and thinking of other game scores that I agree with (while keeping in mind this one costs $10) I would give it a 7.5. The problem with the 5.5 rating is that puts it in truly atrocious company and I don't think it deserves to be there. My big knock on it would be that there should have been at least twice as many games ;)

I had a similar experience. Called a GameStop and they told me I would not be able to find it anywhere if I had not purchased it.

Walked into a Best Buy in Seattle and saw 10 on the shelves, picked one up as I laughed to myself. The game itself is pretty simplistic but having another controller is definately wonderful.

I called the Best Buy in Green Bay and they said they had about 30. I doubt it will be a rare title. That being said, I'd still grab one since everything else seems to sell out ASAP.

What exactly do the "personalities" do on G4 besides show up on TV?
Other people like me sometimes write the text reviews that the hosts and other producers turn into onscreen segments. Adam and Morgan actually do quite a bit, I believe, and are bigger gamers than a lot of game-related personalities. I'm not their best friend or their biggest fan or anything, but I think they do a pretty good job and deserve to be where they're at.

I just picked one up there ($37.?? after $10 coupon and $5 gift card) and they had at least that many. I stopped counting at 32 (probably had another 5-10 more).

The prices on ebay are amazing.......$70 looks to be about the average sold price with $15 shipping.......I have also seen Wii play without th remote going for $40 plus whatever shipping was. The Wii Remote sells for at least $40 by itself still.

Seems like some very very easy profit atm. Especially if you use the $10 any game at bb. Buy like 5...keep 1, and sell 4 to make up the cost of yours plus be able to buy 4 more games without taking a hit out of your own pocket.

5.5 from IGN is pretty harsh. I'll wait till I hear member reviews about it :bouncy:! Oh, and I don't think it'll be that rare. I'm speculating that some people will just get it to get the extra Wiimote and sell off the game.

None of the Walmarts w/in 100 miles got it. 2 Gamestops didnt have more than preorders. Hastings hopes to have them before the weeks out. Bestbuy said try back tomorrow. WTF?

Your price of $70 on ebay is very inaccurate. There are some stupid people putting buy it nows for $63, other than that selling at break even for $45-50. FYE near me said they get em in tomorrow, Gonna use my $205 trade in credit and get a backstage pass for 20% off total of wii play+ some other games.

They seem to be going between $60-$70 to me.

There are some particularly dumb buyers though:

At my Gamestop the guy said there were 48 on reserve and he had about 10 or so that he could sell so I picked one up, All I need now is a nunchuck and I'm set.

i got mine. i'm waiting for my roommate to get back to play some 2 player. only so much u can do 1 player.

Went to my Wal-Mart, they still had their Tuesday shipment boxes up front in the electronics department, untouched. Only one box had been opened with new release DVDs in it. I asked the chick there if they had Wii Play, she said they might...then told me to check back later after they'd opened the boxes. This was 3:30PM, I'm surprised they hadn't opened anything yet.

Purchased mine at BB (used 10 off coupon) and they had 7-8 copies left. The Target I stopped at before BB, had about 30 copies (So that's where all the Wimotes have been hiding.)

I wonder if they're all gonna be gone in a day or two... and when more shipments will arrive. So the answer is they're not rare today, but if you want it, I wouldn't dawdle.

P.S. To the person who said all 9 games suck... that's your opinion. I suspect it's gonna divide people like Wii Sports (Not that it's in the Godly brilliance of Wii Sports). There are gonna be people (like me) who like what it represents... and people who can't stand it.

Damn, all the Best Buys near me had none!

I have $10 giftcard and $10 coupon. $30 is perfect for this game.. not that $50 shit

Wii Play is gonna be rare in Western New York. I went to pick up my copy, the guy told me that they were lucky if they were gonna be able to fill at most half of the pre sold out pre orders taken due to the storms raging across middle america. On a side note, he also regaled me with an amusing anecdote about how some woman flipped out when they didnt get The Warriors in on PSP. Made me laugh anyway.

P.S Wii Play is a lot of fun, the wife and I love Find Mii, Laser Hockey and Ping Pong.

There's only one minigame that, after having played them all (picked up WiiPlay this afternoon at Best Buy with $10 off coupon -- they had three on the shelf, now two), I would call a trash game. That's Pose Mii. The rest are either average or spectacular. Tanks! alone is worth $10.

Honestly, don't believe any naysayers. Considering the $10 price tag (+ $40 MSRP for a Wii Remote -- even better if you use a $10 BB coupon, $5 GGC, etc etc.), you get more than your money's worth.

Buy it.

I was at BB today around 1300--they had sold half a dozen Plays just before I got there, and sold at least another ten while I was there (I was wandering around for a little while.).

I've thought about it tonight and thought about some of the impressions of the game, thought about the fact that I rarely play multiplayer, and re-evaluated my opinion of spending $50 on this. I do not need another Wiimote, I already have 2. So it's literally spending $50 for this game, it's not a "$10 game" to me.

Regardless, I wanted to see if the game was available anyway, so I went back to my Wal-Mart and the same people were working 5 hours later...but still had not unpacked the boxes. Scratch that, they unpacked two, and I saw two guys talking about getting at the rest later. By this time, I did not even feel like dealing with struggling to get them to check the boxes again (nobody would the last time I was there) so I said F it and that sealed my decision. I'm not getting it.

Maybe one day, but not in this game cycle. I'll make Sonic my next game. :)

Got it at Walmart. Loving it so far. I so thought it was 4 player though. I dont know why I thought that but I did.
Laser Hockey FTW
