Was the Sega Genesis version of Earthworm Jim inferior to the SNES one?
No--it had an extra level, better sound (shockingly), and less loading times.
The only advantage the SNES had was better colors.

Ah, the Genesis did have a crummy color palette. I might get this since the SNES version is unlikely to show up on VC.

Come on Nintendo, Japan has Castlevania: Rondo of Blood since April. This would been a perfect release, but they decided one VC game was okay to be released today.
Home Sweet Home? The hell?
Home Sweet Home might sound like a stupid game , but Sweet Home on the other hand is not. And it would have been Halloween appropriate to boot.

Speaking of which , I noticed that since none of the games this week were Halloweenish and the shop zone update didn't mention anything about it either , then maybe the holiday themed update will be next monday? Or more likely there won't be one this year.

Yeah but it's not officially translated.

I know I've mentioned this in the past, but I used to drive past a place that was called Sweet Home. It got really creepy after I found out about the game.

Good to know that the first person to reply to my post actually knows what sweet home is.;) Yes I realized that its not officially translated , but if people can ask for Secret of Mana 2 (Seiken Densetsu 3 or however you want to number it) then I can ask for sweet home.

Its kinda strange but I looked up a site about the game (Sweet Home , not Mana) and it had a section about the different endings and it seems funny that the best ending seems to be the "bad ending".
The Genesis was way cooler than the SNES back then, anyways.

Nuh uh!
"Tsk tsk."

Genesis does:

I'm inclined to agree technology wise as Sega always tended to be some steps ahead of Nintendo in that arena. Unfortunately it seems to have been their downfall as they were always too soon before the consumer was really ready for it. In the games and playability aspect, the SNES really takes the cake.

As wishful thinking as it may be to cross our fingers for Seiken Densetsu 3, I'm not sure if it would ever happen. As I recall there were quite a few bugs in the game and I don't know if Squeenix would be willing to port it/fix the bugs.

Anyway, there's still a possibility that Sweet Home or other like titles could be in line for next week. I have a feeling that since Halloween is on Friday any horror themes would be released on Monday.

I played the hell out of some EWJ last night. I made it past the insane water level with one life and no continues. The game is still incredible even with floaty controls. My only complaint will be if they eventually bring Sega CD games to the VC along with the CD version of EWJ.

EDIT - I suck at writing. I meant to say that by the time I completed the insane water level, I only had one life remaining. I'm not actually good at this game yet.

Got Rotohex last night. I don't have Dialhex for the GBA, but I imagine this is a very faithful recreation.

You can either use the d-pad or pointer, with the d-pad being more comfortable. This is probably my least favorite Art Style game as it's a pretty straight-forward puzzle game.

Rotohex is perhaps the least novel of the three Art Style Games, but it's frighteningly addictive. Although it's very simple, I actually think it's more addictive than Hexic. And the music is phenomenal.

America might have got Obama'd on some Halloween VC releases, but Europe sure didn't...

In a "Halloween Special", Europe got three "creepy classics", Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse - NES/500 Points, Devil World - NES/500 Points, and Ghosts 'n Goblins - NES/500 Points.

Nice. I'm guessing that we'll get that next week.

Define Obama'd?

You should be less intolerant, Lilboo. I mean she only wants to isolate you from all of humanity and then probably hunt you from a helicopter while a man named Joe services her pipes.

Honestly.

The heck does that even mean?

Edit: I see this was asked and answered. Ne'ermind.

I...I.. I just want to have sex with her son. That's all. :(
Only if you videotape it and we force her to watch it.

It'll be like Raiders of the Lost Ark when they finally opened it up. Those 84 pounds of gobbed on makeup will only shield her for a few seconds, and sadly, there's no dress in the world expensive enough to counter the effects of the Angel de los Muertos.

I think I figured out why no Rondo of Blood yet....

Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles just made Greatest Hits on PSP, issuing a re-release.

I am saddened, yet pleased by this news (finally, a great PSP game made GH rather than something Sony pulled out of its ass!)

^Would have liked a PS2 port, but I guess I settle with a greatest hits version.

Anyway, I'm glad that some of the bit generation games are coming to the U.S. I'm going to download them soon!

WII-KLY UPDATE: TWO WIIWARE GAMES AND ONE VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAME ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

Nov. 3, 2008
Sometimes you feel like a pinball, bouncing from one thing to the other. Do you spend time blasting things in outer space or just spend a quiet afternoon at home, redecorating? Fortunately this week’s Wii-kly Update doesn’t force you to make those tough choices.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week’s new games are:

WiiWare

ALIEN CRUSH RETURNS™ (Hudson Entertainment, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone – Animated Blood, Mild Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): ALIEN CRUSH RETURNS is the ultimate incarnation of the popular TurboGrafx pinball classic, Alien Crush. Boasting innovative game and control features, this is one Wii experience that you don’t want to miss. With all the ball-blazing simplicity and flipper action thrills of standard pinball, ALIEN CRUSH RETURNS has all the visual and digital elements that you’ve come to expect in a video game, including grotesque, eye-stunning playfields as well as unique Action Ball gimmicks that redefine the fun and excitement of pinball. You can even nudge the machine with your Wii Remote controller. What’s more, you can connect via Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection to enjoy a variety of features such as four-player head-to-head action, high score competitions and Extra Stage downloads.

Home Sweet Home (Big Blue Bubble Inc., 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 1,000 Wii Points): Picture this scene... You move into your new home, and every room is perfect. Every room, except one. Here is the blank canvas for your vision, but you lack the know-how. Who do you call? The Home Sweet Hometeam! Home Sweet Home will give you the chance to unleash your hidden talents as an interior designer. You choose the furniture, patterns and colors to create a masterpiece that will blow your client away. With simple controls, a fun graphical style and an easy-to-use interface, Home Sweet Home allows you to nurture your creative side. Remember, a house is not a home until it is a Home Sweet Home.

Virtual Console

Space Harrier™ (Sega Master System, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone – Mild Fantasy Violence, 500 Wii Points): Space Harrier was originally released in the arcade in the 1980s, developed by AM2, which also developed OutRun and Afterburner. Space Harrier is widely recognizable by many arcade fans due to its distinctive, colorful art design and its fast-paced action. The SEGA Master System version is considered a solid port of the arcade game, containing 18 levels of intense fun. As the “Space Harrier,” you must fight your way through “The Land of Dragons” and defeat the bosses at the end of each level to restore peace to the land. Are you prepared? Get ready!

.

Space Harrier is one of those basically pointless games that I love simply for the amount of time I have invested in it in my life.

I'll do a little more reading later, but if Alien Crush Returns has Williams Collection-style controls it is an absolute must-buy for me.
I had a boner for a second when I saw "SWEET HOME."

Alas, not what I was thinking of.
Welcome to 30 posts ago, bitch!

'Sides, aintchu the dood all up ons Alien Crush?

See, I'd be slightly up in Home Sweet Home..but 1000 points? :whistle2:k
I just got settled in my new apartment, and I'm in a fabulous interior designing mood at the moment.
I feel as if Home Sweet Home would sell well to the crowd that doesn't know the Wii Shop Channel exists.
I agree. I doubt their sales will be very high, it would of been better to add more content and make it a $30 retail release.

Still it's pretty cool to see a game like this come out on Wiiware, it really shows the variety of games Nintendo allows on the service. You would never see something like this on XBLA.

Where's Earthbound ?!? I voted early and often for that. Looks like I've been disenfranchised...

Seriously, though, how cool would it be if Nintendo actually made the Everybody Votes Channel useful and count towards which VC games get released. I understand all may not be available, but they could let us vote from a few choices that are ready to go.
I say do it.

You're rolling in the points anyway, aren't you?
fo'sho!

Boo might as well just decorate her APT in unused Wii Points cards.

Does anyone know when or if they are ever going to drop Tetrisphere on the VC? It is my wife's favorite game and she keeps driving me crazy about it.

I wouldn't expect it any time soon, if at all, for a few good reasons.

1) Nintendo seems to not give a shit about N64 games. They aren't even releasing their own first party titles (Smash Bros Melee, Pilotwings 64) for reasons no one can understand.

2) Tetris as a licensed property seems to be a nightmare to get the rights to use. So I file this under the "not going to be released because of the legal quagmire it might be in" column. Someone with more information on this than me could answer you better, but I'm guessing this is a huge factor.

3) Assuming 1 and 2 get negated, it doesn't change that Nintendo is so slooooooooooow(king) about releasing N64 titles. So even if it were on the list, I wouldn't expect it for another year or more given the release schedule.

It's not lookin' good for ya. Tetris Party just came out but I know that's not the same thing.
