Why was the option for 1 player mini-games left out? There's not always someone there to play with.
That's a very legitimate question. The reality is that we had a very short (3 month!) dev-cycle, and we had a very small dev team. We really needed to concentrate on the things that made the game fun, which was the critter AI and the fence building component.

At the end of the day, we just couldn't see a feasible way of how to include a fun way for one player to experience the minigames. In hindsight, I think we should have allowed one player to play the Predator Rampage minigame since we already had the AI in there, but we just didn't have the time to create AI opponents for the other game.

I do think that there is still plenty of game for 1 player...the Adventure mode has 50 levels, then you can go into the Marathon mode for randomized levels. Having said that, adding players just makes it that much more fun.

I do appreciate your feedback!

Doomed is really good at this stuff, maybe when his ass gets on here he'll do something with it..

Oh so far Yukine earned himself a handjob! Very nice!
DAMMIT! 1/2 hour away!
I want my handjob! Just not from you. ;)
I get dibs on whatever graphic lilboo wants next... provided it doesn't involve promo art for Everybody's lilboo channel.

301 blocks?!!?
Glad a developer is here. I have a few questions.

Do you believe there is a storage problem?
If so, do you think that the lack of bigger storage will hurt you guys? (Not you, but as developers. Any developers). Meaning some people may find it more of a hassle to make room for a game, thus, never downloading it?

It's nice to see that you are understanding of our "?!!??!" over the $10 price. While making the game, did you guys ever try and convince Nintendo to allow demos? Was there any discussion about it? It's hard to drop $10 on a game that you won't know if you like it, until you buy it :bomb:
Yeah, we had no idea what any of the other WiiWare games were going to come out at size-wise, so when we saw the Japanese launch list and saw that we were the biggest, we knew we had to do something.

I do think there is a storage problem with the Wii, and I do think that we've already seen that it is potentially hurting sales as people just don't want to deal with memory management, especially on their console! I do think that Nintendo will come out with a very viable solution in the coming months. Take a look at this brief interview I did with Wired where I pretty much said the same thing: http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/05/for-wiiware-nin.html

As far as demos go, we never talked with Nintendo about that, as it's been their stance from day 1. While I'm sure that'll eventually change, there are other things that'll happen first, like the storage solution. I wish we had a demo out. Though it does take some extra work to get them done, as a gamer, I know that's a great way to show the world your game, especially if it doesn't have a number after the title or a big license. It's so easy to go under the radar....

Nintendo definitely needs to get their storage solution out sooner rather than later.

In my case, it looks like Star Solider R is going to be one of the last titles I pick up until I'm given a way to keep games on my Wii without all this clumsy memory management.
I thought that list was launch window, not launch date. I don't think they'll get it tomorrow, but if they do then I'm going to really fucking pissed.
We are getting it tomorrow, along with other WiiWare games: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King, LostWinds, Pirates: The Keys of Dreams, Pop, Star Soldier R, Toki Toki, and TV Show King.

I'm starting to really enjoy it now. It has to grow on you. Some of the areas do feel the same, but include new animals. I really do love the stage design though. It gradually ramps the difficulty up which is always nice. I can definitely see myself wasting an hour or two on this when I'm bored.

One problem I do have with it though is motion sensing. The game recognizes my shakes about half of the time, and that's when I'm shaking the hell out of it. Makes it difficult to redo fences.

If you want a nice and easy puzzle game for lazy afternoons then this is worth the $10 if you have it. If you want something cheaper go with Pop. Don't trust your initial impressions, give it an hour before you write it off.

Really glad to hear you're starting to enjoy it. It's a strange game for me...the concept is very simple, but there's so much more to it when you really look at it. With all the different animal AI going on, there's always something unexpected happening or playing itself out (I personally like watching the koalas get eaten by the crocs).

As for the motion sensing being wonky, we've never seen that, nor have the Konami testers. The only things I can think of are that maybe your WiiMote is busted (unlikely), or you're just not close enough to the fence to break it. You've gotta really be right on the fence and facing it in order to break it. We did this so that the player doesn't accidentally break a nearby fence. Hopefully that solves it...

So, how about hooking us up with a contest for a couple free copies? winkwink
----->Lilty Hut 300 Points
I think I need more sleep... I thought for sure that said "Little Slut"... I was like, what kind of game is this!? :shame:
I'll add you either in a few minutes OR later tonight. I just woke up and let's see how lazy I am today

Glad to see someone took a recommendation from me :). Do you like it?! Worth the 700 points to you? I love it, and I really think it's a great 10-30 minute game (depending on well you're doing)

Ya know, I STILL haven't tried the multiplayer yet.
I'll add you in here, as well. And yes, Im LOVING it! And I think it;s definitelyw orth the 700 points, at least for anyone that likes high score focused games. It's very much pick up and play, as you said, but also very addictive. I just got a score of 3,134,100, so that's my best so far. Ranked 849th now.

I hope this goes over well... it has a very Electroplankton kind of look to it. I'd love it if Nintendo would think about bringing that to the Wii. I wonder why that hasn't happened yet, with all the casual and non-game sorts of things that are out for it.

This week's releases are a real disappointment, though :(

What is this Pirates game MisterModest speaks of? I haven't heard of it, but I LOVE piratey things... arrrrr!
So, how about hooking us up with a contest for a couple free copies? winkwink
I'm working on that right this exact moment. Hoping Cheapy will help me promote the contest a bit, but at the very least, I'll do something in the forums in the next couple of days. Gotta give back to the community that has helped me be cheap enough to start my own studio! :)

Ya know, Roland, these people love me and I have a tendency to REALLY REALLY hype a game I am currently loving. I'm sure you've seen me mention how My Life as a King and Pop are amazing good times and if I had a copy and really enjoyed it you know I would most def tell CAG and the rest of the world about it  ;)

Nothing for me this week. I am still waiting for Dr. Mario. Plus I still need to get Paper Mario before I play these other games.

Hooray! I just got another pOp score sent from sonderiaom. This makes TWO people now. I have a third pending and I gotta add Courageous to my "TO SEND SCORES" list to ^_^

I'm probably gonna have to make a thread boasting this game because I'm enjoying it just that much.

Now THAT is a clever rouse...

That does make think of something. I know there's a few people on this site that do reviews on other sites. If anyone here is interested in reviewing Critter Round-Up, hit me up with a PM. Only people who actually do reviews on sites please [AKA - "real" journalists]. I'm not looking for posh reviews, honesty is always best. Thanks!

Hey that wasn't a 100% rouse though! I really do let everyone in on these games. I have downloaded a ton of games (really. 4 WiiWare and over 30+ VC) and I made my feelings very clearly about them all :D

Pretty much why I started this thread a year ago
I know I converted 1 person to buying pOp and I think I almost (I may have) gotten Strell to pick up the ever expensive My Life as a King.

^ now THAT's service

How many blocks is Star Solider? Never mind I found it 145 Blocks.

Since I only have 63 blocks left of space not sure If I going to download right away.
I have Super Star Solider so maybe I move that for this. I want more storage!
We'd better.

Time to unleash lilboo's fearsome powers?
...is he going to sexually harass Nintendo via the internet?
...is he going to sexually harass Nintendo via the internet?
lilboo raped Japanese people when Brawl got delayed... He's done some other stuff as well...
Oh so far Yukine earned himself a handjob! Very nice!
He'll do whatever it takes.
I should keep track of this stuff. It would fill my HD in like a week.

.....................

I have no words right now.
However, I will be out at walmart purchasing latex gloves, a rake, a cactus, baby oil, sunglasses, boots, and a diet dr pepper.

If I'm not online in the next few days.. it's because I'm out getting us some fuckin demos :bomb:

No. :nottalking:
So who do I target? Japanese? Or Europeans? Both? I have no problem with that...then I'd be attacking my family and every other fuckin white person

So anyone have impressions on Star Solider R?
I just can't believe it only has a 2 minute and 5 minute mode. Kinda silly. Now Pac-Man Championship Edition was awesome and all the modes were timed rounds. However there were like 5 or 6 different modes and varying between 5-10 minutes. If Star Solider R offered THAT, then I would have been all over this very easily.

I was checking out the video of Critter Round-Up on the Nintendo Channel. I want to like it enough to get it. I know I would like that kind of game.. but I'm just afraid I won't AND I'll be out 1000 points! I don't know what exactly is holding me back from trying it (as I think only 1 person here tried it), but I usually enjoy being the guinea pig,

So no one else picked this up? I think the problem is we need a few people to have it and like it, this way we can talk about it..thus, more people getting it.
No. :nottalking:

I'm fine w/ you attacking both. How dare they get Dr. Mario before us. I'm glad to see that there are others that are going crazy waiting for this game too. Nintendo is hurting my feelings.

It's not even that they got Dr Mario, because I am nearly 100% certain we will get it next Monday. I'm playing a lot of stuff now so the extra week won't be so bad.

But it's the fact that they gave them a demo for it. It's really silly because.. I am sure A LOT of people have played Dr Mario. We know what to expect. If they wish to give us demos, it should be for these NEW games (LostWinds, My Life as a King, pOp, Star Solider, and Critter Round Up).

Hopefully there's a trend and we do see some demos in the near future.

And that's exactly why Roland should totally send me a copy of Critter Round-Up :nottalking:

I always have someone I can play it with too! So I'd be awesome to share the single player and multiplayer aspect.

Like I mentioned before, I am also looking for an excuse to get this. I'm definitely not going to have a chance tonight, but give me a few days and let the feeling that there is a WiiWare game that I am halfway interested in that I don't have eat away at me and I will get it.

Quick rundown on what you get with Critter Round Up.

Adventure Mode - You get 50 levels, and about 5 different areas. Last 10 levels have you go through all the worlds. Has about 13 different animal types, give or take a few. Takes about two to four hours to finish depending on how good you are. Best thing about it, even if you lose all your lives you don't have to start from level 1 or the beginning of that world. The stage just resets. You get 3 lives per round.

Co-Op -
It's adventure mode, but with two people. You share 3 lives, so you better not pick a crappy player to play with you. You both can get your own items. Could be fun depending on who you play with.

Mini-Games

Snowball Soccer - It's soccer with snowballs. You run with the D-Pad, you jump with the 2 button, and kick with the 1 button. It seems you can't run and kick at the same time, you have to stop then hit 1. It's a small arena, and you only get that one arena. There's 4 giraffes in the corners that kick the ball if it gets close to them. Fun game, but the controls are pretty bad.

Predator Rampage - Pretty simple mini-game. There's three animals that run all over the area, which is also pretty small, and you try to avoid them. First one to get hit loses. I don't seem people playing this one that much.

Chicken Catch - Tons of different colored chickens fly out into the arena. Each color has a different point value. The stage is big, and there's a lot of chickens. The one who gets to the chosen amount of points wins. You can change the score limit. The choices are 20, 50, and 100. One problem that frustrates me is the lack of a run button. You can a bit of a speed boost by pressing the kick button, but it still feels slow. Definitely a fun game that will be fun to play with others.

Fence Trap - Tron light cycle game, but with fences. My favorite game of the bunch, and one that will probably be a fan favorite.

All mini-games allow up to 4 players.

Marathon Mode
- Play levels until you lose all your lives. For each stage you get 3 lives, lose them in that level and it's game over. Fun, but pointless in my opinion. Like I said previously, adventure mode is a good 3 hours. I don't think many people are going to play marathon mode more than that. It's more of a challenge, but I'll just replay adventure mode.

All in all, it's a good game. You get a lot of bang for your buck if you have someone else to play with. I don't, so I essentially get one mode. If you like these types of puzzles then definitely pick it up.

So much for being quick. Hey at least I'm not quick for once.

Okari - Thanks for the detailed impressions! Fence Trap sounds pretty good. I was actually thinking this might also be fun to play with my 5-year-old, but it sounds like it might be a little too complex. What do you think?

To the few people who have pop:
Did you receive a score from me yesterday, and if so, was it by 'Kenny'? I just realized that the WiiConect24 is a GAME setting, not so much a profile setting.

Just curious if all of the high scores from each profile gets sent to the Wii friends you've chosen to share it with :whistle2:k

 No Daves here!
Well the the name of where it came from should be on the letter. You would see "lilboo" (if thats what you put for me) and when you opened it up it would say BLAH BLAH BLAH "_____" got a high score of _____"

Me either, so I guess we're both stuck with him

Well that's neat, I guess. He doesn't really like the game, so don't expect too many from him. I make him play so I can justify the 700 points EVEN FURTHER.

Some info on Hudon WiiWare games.
http://www.siliconera.com/2008/05/1...re-development-tetris-with-the-balance-board/

Bomberman
Let’s start by clearing up the Bomberman Wii versus Bomberman WiiWare debacle.
Aside from the retail differences, the Wii version has pretty deep Story Mode, which has 39 stages across 5 areas, 31 different unique enemies and 5 big, bad bosses. We’ve even included a “Bomberman for Beginners” tutorial mode, so newcomers to the series can quickly learn how to bomb their way to victory.
Both the Wii version and WiiWare version have the famous Battle Mode, with the Wii version having 2 extra stages for a total of 12 (vs. WiiWare’s 10) and 20 different “appeal motions” vs. WiiWare’s 10. These appeal motions are extra moves you can have your Bomberman do to express emotions.
Of course, the big draw here is that Battle Mode works across both Wii and WiiWare; owners of one version can play against owners of the other version, so no matter which one you have, you’ll have plenty of people to compete with.

Well I don't know what to think. I do like the idea that owners of the retail game and WiiWare game get to play online together..but if WiiWare is just the battle mode with a few LESS extras then the retail..it might be worth getting the full retail. But that depends on if the actual game (besides battle) is good. If it's a $30 retail vs $10 WiiWare.. I don't know what I would choose.. :whistle2:k

Tetris

Will Tetris for WiiWare have any new features other than Mii support or online play? Maybe drag and drop play like Dr. Mario & Virus Busters?

It features a number of new rules and items. Currently, we’re tossing around the idea of using the Balance Board. The game also supports 6-Player Wi-Fi battle.

 Unless they NAIL it, Tetris with the balance board doesn't sound too appealing..but who knows. 6 player wifi = good. I wish this was a tetris DS type port to the Wii..

Anywho, WiiWare-World has reviewed Toki Tori and Dr. Mario so check them out.

I like this:
Something we thought particularly nifty is the ability to send a demo version of the game to people in your friend roster. By them accepting and downloading the demo version you can enjoy online matches against your friends without them ever having to pay for the game. It’s a concept extended from the DS’ “Download Play” it seems and while we haven’t tested it out yet we're pretty impressed with the idea.

I def will be getting Toki Tori now. Game looks awesome.I believe it'll only be 900 points too.

Definitely getting WiiWare Bomberman. I've never had any use for a story mode in those games, multiplayer is where I'll be at - and great selling point having the two versions compatible online.
I got a pop score from Kenny as well. Toki Tori indeed looks awesome.
Well I'm Tommy, so when you see the BETTER scores coming your way.. that's me ^_^

The only thing I read about Toki Tori that I do not like.. it's 290 blocks

290 blocks? Man, I'm pretty sure I have 200 left. It was just a few months ago I told myself that I'd never be able to fill that space up anyway.

EDIT: Turns out I have exactly 100 blocks left. Looks like I'll be doing some deleting, assuming some good Wii Ware comes out next week :(
