Japan, as always, gets four games

Nekketsu Kunio-kun (Famicom, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points)
Super Gussun Oyoyo (Super Famicom, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)
Bomberman Panic Bomber (PC Engine, 1-5 players, 600 Wii Points)
Mr. HELI no Daibouken (PC Engine, 1 player, 600 Wii Points)

So, why are we getting 1-2 a week, same with Europe, but Japan averages 4 a week? This is really stupid.

Well the logical side of me says that japan has a lot more games available to release on the VC than the US or europe , but the cynical side of me says that maybe more people in japan are actually downloading a lot of VC games than in the US and europe and hence they're shafting us since they think we don't care.

That's just me thinking aloud though.:)

I'm planning on picking up one of the Donkey Kong Country games. Which is the best of the 3 to get?

Is it worth picking up the classic controller if I'm only planning on getting a few (5-6) VC games right now? I'll be without wireless internet for about 6 months starting in a few weeks so I won't be downloading more for quite a while.

Thanks.

I have one for only four, and I'm thankful for it. I remember just trying to play a simple NES game with just the wiimote, and it's annoying. I also heard a lot of complaints early on from people trying to play certain SNES and N64 games with a GC controller. It's quite comfortable, though I need the clip that goes on back to hold the wiimote.

There's been an update to the Shop Channel. It says it was to make the WiiWare work later on in Spring. I was really hoping that it would cause Everyone's Nintendo channel to pop up.

Yeah, I noticed I needed to update when I tried to go to the Shop Channel and it told me to. I think it's such a minor update that you won't get the blue light for it... it didn't even change the firmware version.

I got my blue light already.
Um I'm confused.
I'm watching my main screen where the Wii Shop Channel scrolls some updates. Well I just saw a blue box with a question mark and said "Updated Wii Shop Out Channel Available"...:whistle2:s Is there a new channel on the horizon and it's not quite there?

Wii Shop Out Channel = Everybody's Nintendo? :whistle2:k?

EDIT: I guess it was only talking about the update that happened earlier.

Anywho, one game for Europe.
Mega Turrican - Genesis, 800 points.

We get 2. Europe gets 1. Japan gets 4. Sigh.

fuck a new update out? That really stinks because my school does not like my router for some reason (it was working fine and I had my Wii running off it, then all of a sudden it just stops working and I get a weird this lan connection is not right on my computer error and essentially my router is disabled for now since it also means no WiFi:cry:).

Well I hope this update is something good, and I hope the Everybody's Nintendo Channel comes out soon, I really want to play some DS Demos.

It was a Wii Shop update, not a firmware update. All it did was 'get ready for WiiWare titles coming out in spring!'

Rumored new Wario's Woods Wii game. If it's real, most likely gonna be on Wii ware.

i hope that's real. I'm just worried that they're going to stay in denial about our future hard drive dilemma. i can't possibly understand what they have against making more money, i'm assuming they are just worried that this will make piracy more prevalent on the wii. by that same token, it's making me second guess whether i want to buy vc games and wii ware.

Hmmm...no leaked info for Monday's upcoming VC games? I hope it's not something lame or getting screwed over again with just one new release.

ARGH! I hate those puzzle games! @_@

Guess it's only going to be Final Fantasy and Pokemon Ranch for me for a good long time. T_T

Also, anyone who got the Shop Channel Update: Did your Wii crash immediately afterward? I updated, then tried to play Super Paper Mario. It started to load, got to the HOLD THE WIIMOTE SIDEWAYS! screen with no text, then the Wii started to click and run the laser back and forth a few times before it crashed. It's okay now, but I'm annoyed.

I am afraid that we can take Earthbound off the list of hoped-for VC games, since it was removed as a demo from the U.S. release of SSBB. :whistle2:( Anyone else have words of encouragement...

Download the ROM and get over it. fuck Nintendo. If they can't take the 5 minutes to release Earthbound on the VC, why the hell should we wait? Furthermore, the went OUT OF THEIR WAY to take EB out of SSBB.

Wii-kly Update: Two New Classic Games Added to Wii Shop Channel

It’s a mad season for basketball lovers, but even the most hardcore hoops fan needs a break from the action this time of year. While they’re a far cry from basketball, the latest additions to the Wii™ Shop Channel offer plenty of fast-moving fun and high-scoring thrills of their own. Check them out and get a fresh taste of gaming excitement that can last well into April and beyond.

Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week’s new games are:

KING’S KNIGHT™ (NES®, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone — Mild Fantasy Violence, 500 Wii Points): In the kingdom of Izander, the fair Princess Claire has been kidnapped by a foul and insidious dragon, and it is the mission of four brave fighters to save her. Through five thrilling, fast-action stages, our gallant heroes—a knight, a wizard, a monster and a thief—will take on an army of incredible enemies. You must help them reach their goal, as you are now part of the team that will fight to free the princess from her imprisonment. Keep your wits about you, plan your strategy and set off on an exciting adventure.

POWERBALL™ (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone — Mild Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): Eight different teams representing various nations are vying to become the POWERBALL champions, and you control one of the eight in your quest for the championship. A hybrid of games like rugby and football, POWERBALL is played on a 100-yard field. Try to score by either carrying the ball into your opponent’s end zone or kicking it into your opponent’s net for points. This one- or two-player game offers both exhibition and league play. Jump into a game of POWERBALL and try a brand new sport.

I don't know who is deciding their releases, but I would think that a better coordinated attack would increase downloads. Nintendo has had multiple good opportunities to release the original SSB, but I don't understand what they are holding back for. Do they honestly think it would hurt sales of Brawl? Still, the ideal time would have been when the first delay was announced, second only to releasing it a week or two before Brawl. I can't see many people getting excited about it now so I think sales of this would be minimal at best.

I'm all for them releasing every possible game from the old systems, but if you're going to put out crap, at least pair it with something good.

I suppose it makes sense to wait for a while until the game is out a little longer. The people who own Brawl now are just a fraction of the people who will eventually own the game, so if they release it in a month or two instead of now the fanbase for the Smash Bros. series will be slightly larger. Personally, I want them to release it now; I only ever really played Smash 64 at friend's houses and this would be the perfect opportunity to play it through again.

I honestly believe the only people who are FREQUENT customers of the VC are hardcore fans.
With this said, anyone who was going to buy Brawl was going to buy Brawl regardless. Had they released Smash Bros 64 a week or TWO weeks before Brawl I doubt the sales figures would change at all.

Did Brawl sell like 1.6 million or some crazy shit like that. They could of had 1.6 million copies of Brawl sold and like ... 1.3 million downloads sold. Nintendo is a fan of money, so I wonder why they didn't release it :whistle2:/

Wasnt Kings Knight a terrible Square Enix Game? I thought they were all about no to digital distribution? or is this their method of checking interest?
Wasnt Kings Knight a terrible Square Enix Game? I thought they were all about no to digital distribution? or is this their method of checking interest?
This is the second Square game on the VC. They aren't against digital distribution per say, they're just against putting any of their big name games up so they have the option to remake them in the future basically. So, no FF or Chrono Trigger, etc.
:bomb: Release SMASH BROTHERS NOW Nintendo so I can dump my N64.
I think you meant, "Release BEETLE ADVENTURE RACING NOW Nintendo so I can dump my N64. ;)
Screw Powerball. Give us Mutant League. :)
Both of them. I'm not sure which I like better, so I want hockey and football.

better coordinated? are you kidding? the press release distinctly says that it's basketball season and we got two games that, as stated, have absolutely nothing to do with basketball.

if that's not coordination...

I wonder who writes these news releases? He/She makes the game(s) sound so "exciting", especially when games like China Warrior and DK Jr. Math don't deserve to be on the Virtual Console.

Also, I feel that Nintendo are releasing two games a week since Microsoft releases one or two XBLA games (sometimes nothing at all like last week) every Wednesday and feel that 2 is enough for us.

If that was the case, they should have stuck with 3 games. I doubt the VC & XBLA are in competition. There's maybe.. 4 games on the VC that's on XBLA?
WiiWare will be the competition.

Yup, which is kind of stupid because they could just release the games on the VC and then release remakes and double dip like they do anyway. It's not like the same people who bought Final Fantasy 1 and 2 for the GBA didn't buy the PSP version, same thing applies here. "OH NOZ IF WE RELEASE ON VC THEY NO BUY FOR OTHER SYSTEM!"

I don't think Nintendo is ENTIRELY to blame for the contant stream of lame titles week after week. I would assume that there is a lot of pressure placed on Nintendo from their third party developers to severely limit the number of A+ titles released on the Virtual Console in the short run, for fear that Gamers, especially the casual ones that the Wii caters to, will quickly come to realize that yesterdays games, for the most part, were vastly superior to the games of today, and will cease to spend full price on whatever shovelware is being released at the moment. For a system like the Wii that only has a handful of killer apps to begin with, this seems to be like it would be a legitimate concern fro a business perspective. You don't want to release games for 5 dollars that are better than the ones you are selling for 50, because then people will eventually stop buying the 50 dollar games.

I use to do press release for a library. You really have to spice them up to get them approved by management. Basically, you have to sit there and be like "what's the most obnoxious thing I could say here"

I really believe Square Enix has its head up its ass sometimes. Some of their more obscure games are really good, but rereleasing the crappier stuff on VC just so they can maybe one day remake Chrono Trigger or Secret of Mana can't possibly reflect well on the company.

That's not a bad point, except that I don't think most of the people buying the shovelware have their Wii connected to the Internet.

I'd love to see Secret of Evermore on the VC. It's not a great game but for 8 bucks, I'd like to play through it (my friend owned in on SNES, I never beat it myself). At the same time, there's no way in hell I'd pay $40 for a DS remake of it, it just doesn't interest me that much. Square makes a strong case for roms and emulators on computer.

SoE is badass. I got it clearanced for $10 YEARS ago and it's become one of my favorite games. I'd buy that shit in a heartbeat.

Argh! You've just been waiting to get me back, haven't you? Well played. :D Even, if it was an Enix game, the same company is making the decisions now.

I think I'd pay $30 for a SoE remake and I would buy the VC version. I loved that game.

That settles it. Nintendo's been selecting VC releases by throwing darts at a wall covered with Excel spreadsheets of classic games.

And they lost one dart about two months ago, evidently.

You forgot the most crucial part. After they throw the darts, they look online to see if anybody reviewed the game. If they did, and it got a 5/10 or higher, they throw the dart again.
