Holy fuck, you guys. Have you seen the screens of the new Alien Crush? It's the fucking coolest thing ever. Between that and Last Flight, I'm suddenly very hopeful for WiiWare's future.
Will buy DAY ONE.

Also, online for Bomberman was re-confirmed in that article. Again, DAY ONE purchase.

Nintendo should just stop Wii software altogether (except for their own first party games) and just have everyone make Wiiware titles.

They already look way better than most retail titles out there.

Although I would like to see Rondo of Blood get released on the VC over here simply for completionist sake , I have the PSP version so it's not that big a deal to me. Same thing with Metal Slug , which was also on that list. It'd be nice to have on the VC but I already have the Metal Slug Anthology so it's kinda unnecessary.

Wii-kly Update: Two New Classic Games Added to Wii Shop Channel

It’s a week of fun-filled firsts at the Wii™ Shop Channel. Each of the latest game offerings represents the first title in a memorable series that has influenced many subsequent titles over the years. Whether you prefer high-speed drives or side-scrolling adventures, it’s clear that these classic games have lasting appeal. What’s more, Wonder Boy is the first-ever Sega Master System title to be made available via Virtual Console.

Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week’s new games are:

Cruis’n USA™ (Nintendo 64®, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 1,000 Wii Points): Ever felt like driving to the Golden Gate Bridge, Mount Rushmore and the White House in one day? Well then, gear up to put your racing skills to the test in a frantic trip across the United States, following a route that you won’t find on any map. Whether it’s the rolling hills of Appalachia, the flowing cornfields of Iowa or the crowded tunnels below Chicago, you’ll find yourself too focused on the intense racing action to worry about the scenery. Get started by picking from a garage full of cars to find the one that best suits your style—if you’re good enough, you’ll even find a few hidden ones to round out your selection. Then choose one of three different playing perspectives and get ready to hang on tight. With five difficulty levels, the ability to remove traffic or other racers, and two- player simultaneous racing, it’s enough to make you forget all about finding that next rest stop. Just watch out for the cows, OK?

Wonder Boy (Sega Master System, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone—Comic Mischief, 500 Wii Points): As Tom-Tom the Wonder Boy, it’s up to you to rescue your girlfriend Tanya from the vile clutches of the monster that has kidnapped her. To do so, you must navigate a series of worlds in a race against time to reach your goal. Along the way, you’ll battle foes and collect fruit that will add to the amount of time you have to complete your mission. You can also receive helpful power-ups from various eggs, but make sure to avoid the bad eggs and poisonous mushrooms that sap your precious vitality. Find the magic doll in each level to open up hidden areas, and make it to the very end of your journey to rescue your one true love.

Happy?

Ok guys I need a bit of help. I am going to be making my second/third purchase from the VC. I never played Paper Mario 64 and would like to know if it's a good pick up or not. I played Paper Mario for GC and enjoyed it. Is the 64 version similar to it?

Let me know your guys thoughts on this game.

Thanks Josh :)

Edit: I thought Master System games were going to be 400 points? :whistle2:k..
Oh well. I can finally use this now :D

No problem. I got your back, baby.
I think the 400 points thing was just speculation. Also, I'm not sure if Wonder Boy was released in the US as I don't know much about the system, but the PR didn't say anything import.

Paper Mario 64: Got 3 worlds in before I was distracted by other shiny games (like Super Paper Mario). Enjoyable for an RPG, though. Only thing that annoys me for all of them, is that the inventory is so small, it's flat out bad. At some points items are just flying out of enemies, but the inventory's already full after 10. I also think I'm too used to traditional Mario games where you just beat the crap out of enemies and you keep running, instead of taking turns with it and giving it the chance to beat the crap out of you. :p

This reminds me to pick up Wave Race 64. Cruis'n was okay, but I've been looking for a good racing game on Wii for a while (Excite Truck is getting slightly old now) and I meant to pick that up back then but had no Wii points.

....

I have just figured it out. Again.

Nintendo is starving us until Wiiware comes out. By releasing crappy games until then, they are almost guaranteed to get us to bite on all sorts of Wiiware games, regardless of whether or not we really want some of them. We'll gobble down even the mediocre crap purely because we are so hungry.

It's like blue balls. Blue balls with your Wii.

Good god, the penis jokes are still showing up even now.

I'm the abused girlfriend who keeps going back
I shouldn't download these games, but I do
Even though there's no room for any of these

...But anyway, isn't Wonder Boy > Adventure Island... even though they are the same games? :dunce:
If so, how is this possible?

I leave out bait in the form of blue balls in proximity to the word "gobble" and you don't even respond to either?

Shameful. Shameful.

Punishment will have to be carried out.

Wonder Boy came before Adventure Island, but they are almost entirely the same game, just with different palettes. AI is basically a rip off of WB.

Now, the later WB titles are sort of like Zelda 2/Metroidvania sorts of games.

Cruis'n USA is a perfect example of a game that I would buy without question if it weren't for the damn space, or lack thereof, issue.

Oh well.

I have a very sore throat right now, and even looking at the word gobble makes me sad.

hmm.. cruis'n is tempting. i want blast corps though... i've been thinking about that game for some reason. i thought i had heard they were putting it on xbla in the future.
no? i couldn't find anything backing that up.

Pretty good. A nice RPG with Mario and humor (IIRC) thrown in. Story a little bland, but not as bland as the Mario platformers.
Holy fuck, Crus'n USA. I used to love that game. I am not too sure how well it held up though, but still its great to see it on the VC.
If people like that game (and I do), I don't know how people can bag on the Cruis'n for the Wii. They play basically exactly the same, just with better graphics on the Wii.

This gives me hope that the rest of the Cruis'n series will be released, along with...California Speed and San Francisco RUSH~!
Time is money my friend.

If we could just run software directly from the SD card, that'd be fine as a 2GB SD card is not only cheap but is plenty of room for Wiiware and VC downloads.

I wonder if it'd be possible to enable such a feature via a firmware update? I understand piracy is a concern but couldn't they tie the software to the internal hardware ID?
I agree I'd rather have the ability to play directly from the SD card. That to me is the ideal solution.

But really, how often do you need IMMEDIATE access to EVERY VC game? I have about 25 VC titles. I know I've not booted up R-Type III or Gunstar Heroes in months. If I can delete those, clear up space, and then download them later, AT NO COST...isn't that a fair solution?

What I'd REALLY love is for Nintendo to have it set up so that you had your online account, and it knew who you were. That way, if your Wii dies, or when Wii 2 is released, you could carry your account, and more importantly the games you paid for, over.

To me, everyone is blowing the whole storage thing way, WAY out of proportion. Does everyone who is complaining about storage space play EVERY SINGLE VC GAME they own EVERY SINGLE DAY?

WrestleCrap'sRD;4149163] What I'd REALLY love is for Nintendo to have it set up so that you had your online account said:
1. Sign up on Nintendo's site for My Nintendo, and there's a way to set it up so that games you buy for VC get registered to you. I dunno if that will end up working the way you hope, but it's better than nothing; at least you have proof beyond your Wii that you've purchased the games.

2. The whole point of the VC is convenience - it's not like we can't just buy the original carts or emulate. fucking about with re-downloading or moving to and from SD cards is inconvenient.

I was excited when I thought it said, "Wonder Boy in Monster World" for the SMS. Now my excitement is somewhat tempered. I still might get Cruisin' USA although the music is pretty terrible compared to the arcade original.

I finally got a Wii and have 2000 points to spend. Unfortunately there are quite a few games I'm considering..

Beyond Oasis (Genesis)
Breath of Fire II (SNES - but ive never played the first one)
Bubble Bobble (NES)
Harvest Moon (SNES)
Land Stalker (Genesis)
Mario 3 (NES)
Star Fox (N64)
Star Tropics (NES)
Super Mario World (SNES)

Any suggestions out of the games I listed? I really want to get the mario games but I have already played them many times. I would like to get atleast 1 RPG as well.

To you, but to me it's convenience. I don't play every single on of my Rock band songs, but I'll be dammed if they made me go in and re-download shit because all the songs couldn't fit. I want to have everything I paid for right there whenever I want.

I agree, but only slightly. Tank pretty much hit what I was going to say. Becayse of the virtual console, you don't have to take out your old SNES and find Donkey Kong Country 2 and hook it all up.. blow on the damn game for it to work.. etc etc etc. The point is to have access to all of these past games all on 1 system (and with Gamecube backwards compatibility, it seems to be an ultimate system to play ANYTHING on)

Downloaded anything is to be conveniant. Especially on the Wii since it really is a 'Point, then click' just to begin a game. When you have to delete, then re-download games..it loses the point of conveniance. What happens if you deleted DKC2, wanted to play it..so you go to the Wii Shop Channel to download it..but say your internet connection is being lame right now. Or there's a problem in the Wii Shop Channel. Now ya can't do what ya wanted. Transfering games back and forth to the SD card is a pain in the ass. If you copied Super Mario Bros to an SD card, it would take a few seconds. That's fine. But try downloading Sin & Punishment, then transfering that over to the SD card. Funny how a few seconds turns into 5+ minutes of just that. Plus, when you run out of room you're going to be putting the LARGER games (that you don't currently play) on an SD card..thus taking a little bit too longer than it should.

But I do agree that yes, we don't need to have access to EVERY SINGLE GAME because it's true, we don't play ALLL of our VC games everyday. HOWEVER, we should have access to them because we did pay for them and they are our games.

With the WiiWare coming up for us in about a month, I'm almost excited. Sure Dr Mario looks like a good time..but if I download ANY VC games between now and then..I'm going to have to sort out ONCE AGAIN "What don't I play" and transfer enough to an SD card in order to have room to download these damn WiiWare games.

For all of the tech savvy people out there (YA KNOW, THE NERDZ LOL!1), is it possible for Nintendo to manufacture it's own SD card that only will work on ONE Wii (your Wii)?

Eggzacktly.

I'm only going to talk about the ones I played.

Yes to all of those. Really. The first 2 are 'maybe'. Bubble Bobble is a great time, but to me it's a BILLLLLLION times better if you can play with someone. If you have a steady someone that you can play it with, then yes it's totally worth the $5.
Harvest Moon is a great time too. My first HM game was It's a Wonderful Life. It's funny when you go back to the original and see how far the game has come  If you're a big HM fan and you never played this--then you def should get it. This is one of those games on the VC that's WORTH the $8. Look on eBay for prices of the cart of this game. It's a good $40-$50. It's also a long game too, so there $8 is very justified.

Super Mario Bros 3 at $5? Just buy it :)
Super Mario World is decent for $8 as well. It's a great game. I like it just as much as Mario Bros 3..so these 2 compliment each other well.

Yes to Star Fox 64 also. Tons of replay value. Great mulitplayer game if you have 3 other people to play with.

You said you wanted an RPG...get Paper Mario. You'll thank me later :)

Cool thanks a lot for the opinions! I use to play the shit out of bubble bobble (with a friend) a long time ago and it was awesome. The only HM game I have played is Magical Melody and it was strangely addicting! Right now I am thinking of getting SMB 3 (for obvious reasons), Harvest Moon, and Bubble Bobble. I may have to buy another points card too :)

So what's the verdict? Don't buy Wonder Boy?
I'm trying to remember which Adventure Island I loved.

So between Wonder Boy, Adventure Island, and New Adventure Island..we pretty much have the same exact game 3 times eh? I haven't purchased any of these..so if one where to buy one of these games..what would be the best version to get?

Looking at the Wikipedia for Adventure Island, I think Adventure Island III was the one I used to play the shit out of.
But I may have also played the shit outta Super Adventure Island too :whistle2:k

This is Street Fighter all over again #-o

Wonder Boy is even worse than Street Fighter; the WB series split off from AI so the sequels were all totally different. Plus there were several different versions with different names and graphics of later WB games. I actually find the whole thing kind of cool in a very nerdy way.

I always thought one version was like an illegal bootleg of the other and one day Sega was going to sue/kill Nintendo or vice-versa.

I just realized that I have the SMS version on the Wonder Boy PS2 compilation that Japan got. It's pretty glorious.

The only game I'll buy in the Adventure Island series if it comes out is Super Adventure Island. Nuff Said.

I've always been kinda fond of Super Adventure Island 2 myself , but I'll still take the first one. Considering that Hudson is one the biggest VC supporters , I think we'll eventually see all of the Adventure Island and Bomberman games on there. I'm kinda holding out hope for Super Bomberman 3 , 4, and 5 to show up one day in the import section.

I'm not gonna support nor deny this comment but I will say that , at least regarding hardware , that Nintendo is one of the best at providing customer satisfaction. I've only had one piece of (originally owned) nintendo hardware fail on me , and that was a gamecube , and it was my own fault that it broke. Went through 3 PS1s , 2 xboxs , and currently on my second 360 with the other guys.

As far as them providing demos is concerned , I simply chalk it up to nintendo being old-fashioned. Kinda like how they were the last ones to get on the online train.
Kinda like how they were the last ones to get on the online train.
They aren't really on the online train, they are like getting ready to study to become certified to be on the online train. AKA Wii online is basically nonexistant and we'll have to wait 'till at least Nintendo's next console for them to possibly get online right.

This I can agree with to a point. Nintendo's online service may not be great or fully featured but its a start. If I'm not mistaken (feel free to say so if I am) the PS2's online setup wasn't the greatest in the world either , and they've improved it considerably for the PS3. It's all baby steps and learning what works and what doesn't , not only from themselves but from Sony and Microsoft as well.

Then again , maybe I just seem so optimistic since online play doesn't mean that much to me. It's a great feature to have , but isn't a deal breaker.
the PS2's online setup wasn't the greatest in the world either
True, but the difference is that 1)That was sixth gen 2) There were plenty of games that supported online.
True, but the difference is that 1)That was sixth gen 2) There were plenty of games that supported online.
I agree with point 2 , but I don't see how 1 is relevant? The PS2 was sony's first shot at online and it was good but had it's share at problems. The Wii is nintendo's first shot at online (sorry the gamecube doesn't count when it only had one "real" online title , and it wasn't even there own) so given that , nintendo doesn't seem in that much worse of a place than sony was with the PS2 at the same point in time. Nintendo just seems worse off since there compedators are so much farther ahead.
The Wii is nintendo's first shot at online (sorry the gamecube doesn't count...
Not to get into this argument, but the SNES had something in Japan called the Satellaview, which was an online service that allowed people to download games.

It's not quite the same thing we'd think of today, but it's close enough to be considered in terms of online gaming.

^ Didn't the NES also have some online system that let people look at the news, stock prices and stuff like that or was that also Satellaview? It's been too long since I've read that book on Nintendo's history that came with my Gamecube.
