Wii Shop Thread: ***FINAL FANTASY 3 IS OUT ON THE VC***

Suncanos don't exist. That's not even a word. Stop making up words. Such things are grammatically impossible.

Now everyone shut up - I have to call Merriam-Webster for an entirely unrelated matter.
And here I thought page 13 was going to be related discussion about Wii Shop downloads. You people are disgusting.
Wii Shop? Is that something Nintendo is releasing in Smarch?
Go back to your Mario Galaxy 2 pontificating, pontificator.
I can't believe that thread got nothing but serious responses. I guess that just goes to show any fluff post with poor grammar will be entertained by the Wii CAG community.

Woot!

Amazon has a listing for World of Goo on Wiiware.

This could mean the start of deals like we've seen with their XBLA offerings. Here's hoping, anyway.

Cool! It would be great to see price fluctuations/sales on these.

Unrelated - no one here really talked about this game except to make fun of the idea (which I think I participated in), but it ranks really highly on metacritic. Has anyone played Bonsai Barber?

I was curious if only because Nintendo published it. Based on replies here, maybe I'll pick it up.

Bonsai Barber got a lot of good buzz around GoNintendo. It was made by some former Rare staff, including some of the Goldeneye team. Seems like everyone that got it really enjoyed it, so long as you are ok with the colorful veneer.

The only strike against it, as I recall, is that it limits the number of barberin's you can do per day. I think the max is five? It's meant to mimic the idea that you are running an actual shop, and as such, only have so much clientele per day.

It wasn't something I was interested in, and I doubt I'll ever get it, but the general opinion is quite good. Here's an "End of the day" post that seemed to speak really highly of the game, and provides a movie for introspection.

Edit: A bit of the old sour grapes, guvnah: Nintendo UK currently has no plans for Amazon releases. You guys have my sympathies, at least until I get Majora's Mask you jerks.

I'm interested in Bonsai Barber, but haven't gotten it yet. I probably won't for a while, but it's on my list. Definitely has gotten good reviews and sounds fun.

Adventure Island doesn't look very inspired if you ask me. How many VC games are we at right now? I need to make a note of when I should get my 1000 points ready for Majora's Mask.

May's VC lineup for Japan has been revealed:

-Ninja-Kun: Ashura no Shou
-Final Fantasy
-Famicom Wars

SFC:
-Kirby’s Dream Land 3 (April 28th)

SMS:
-R-Type

PCE:
-SimEarth (CD)

VCA:
-Numan Athletics (April 28th)
-Youkai Douchuuki (April 28th)

I wonder if there is ever a chance that Mickey Mousecapades will ever make it on...

or any idea if a Boy and his Blob will appear when the new Wii version comes out...

I would love to see the Nintendo wars series get a release over here , and considering how well Advance Wars has done for them I don't know why they wouldn't sell.

Then again , that would require them to go back and translate (or port) old games.

I wonder if we'll wind up getting Final Fantasy before or after Japan. I just found my old Nintendo Power strategy guide in the basement, I'm totally ready to grind.

Wonder Boy would agree with your assessment of Mr. Higgins.

I got a friend who will replay old RPGs under self-made restrictions and other random imposed criteria, such as "how fast can I beat this," low level runs, etc.

He said playing FF1 with a one White Mage only party is one of the most difficult, luck-based things he's ever attempted. Yes, one. Kill the other three people in your party and go the rest of the game with one WM.

Might be fun to try out.

Man, I would love for us to get that RCR sequel-esque game, but I know it will never come out here.

I was going to download something off the VC the other day since I have like, 2000 points that have sat in my account since January, but I couldn't find anything I wanted to buy. I know for sure I'm using 900 to get Gley Lancer in July, but is there anything else to look forward to?

Well, I'm in.

EDIT: Having beaten every single level (but nowhere near collected very single bandaid) in the Newgrounds game on which that will be based, I am now double in. That's a lot of in.

NINTENDO DOWNLOAD: POKER, PLANES AND PLATFORM GAMES FUEL PLAYERS' AMBITION

April 27, 2009
The table is set for card-flipping fun with this week's release of Clubhouse Games™ Express: Card Classics on Nintendo DSiWare™, while the new Paper Airplane Chase™ packs portable challenges for fans of airborne action. WiiWare™ users will find Cocoto Platform Jumper, a wildly imaginative new platformer populated by mysterious creatures. Last but not least, Nobunaga's Ambition, a classic strategy game from the Super NES™ system era, finds its way to the Virtual Console™.

As an added bonus to help celebrate the recent launch of the new Nintendo DSi™ system, Club Nintendo members now will be able to earn coins for registering, linking and providing feedback about their Nintendo DSi systems. They also will be able to earn coins for providing feedback about Nintendo DSiWare titles, which will be automatically registered on their Club Nintendo account when they link their Nintendo DSi Shop to their Club Nintendo account.

Nintendo DSiWare

Clubhouse Games Express: Card Classics (Nintendo, 1-8 players, Rated T for Teen - Simulated Gambling, 500 Nintendo DSi Points™): Clubhouse Games comes to Nintendo DSiWare with a collection of five fun card games in Clubhouse Games Express: Card Classics. Play familiar favorites like Blackjack and Five Card Draw, or test your ability in the fast-paced Last Card, Last Card Plus and President. DS Download Play allows players to host as many as seven friends.

Paper Airplane Chase™ (Nintendo, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 200 Nintendo DSi Points): In Paper Airplane Chase, glide your virtual paper plane through an increasingly tricky slalom course. Take it slow in Endless mode or zip through several Time Attack courses. The two-player Race mode allows friends to race each other using a single Nintendo DSi system.

WiiWare

Cocoto Platform Jumper (Neko Entertainment, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone - Mild Cartoon Violence, 700 Wii Points™): A long time ago in a faraway land, strange little creatures lived in the depths of Abyss. Cocoto, his little devil friends and the mysterious Fairy protect the secret of the magma — the source of their power — in a magic cauldron. Meanwhile, Zaron, the god of lightning who lusts after this force, is up to something. He can count on the rulers of the other kingdoms that Cocoto must cross. The tragic kidnapping of Shiny, Baggy and Neuro has left Cocoto alone to watch over the cauldron. Refusing to leave his friends, he will set out to find them with Fairy.

Virtual Console

Nobunaga's Ambition (Super NES, 1-8 players, Rated E for Everyone - Violent References, 800 Wii Points): Nobunaga's Ambition is a game set in Japan's Warring States period, a turbulent age when feudal warlords battled for control of the country. As the ruler of a fief, the player chooses his or her own path to conquest: Will you wage war on your neighbors or rely on diplomacy? Use economic sanctions or send ninja assassins? Use all of your ingenuity and resources to unite Japan under your banner.

Nintendo adds new titles to the Nintendo DSi Shop and the Wii™ Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time on Mondays. Users with broadband Internet access can redeem Wii Points or Nintendo DSi Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel. Nintendo DSi Points can be purchased in the Nintendo DSi Shop. A Nintendo Points Card™ can be purchased at retail locations. All points from one Nintendo Points Card must be redeemed in either the Nintendo DSi Shop or the Wii Shop Channel. They are not transferable and cannot be divided between the two systems.

Remember that both Wii and Nintendo DSi feature parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about this and other features, visit Wii.com or NintendoDSi.com.

 Oh, NOA

Why is Clubhouse Games Express: Card Classics rated T, when the regular DS Clubhouse Games is rated E? It's the same content. Granted, you'd have to be pretty dense not to just pay the $20 to get the full game, complete with wifi online play.

Paper Airplane Chase has actually gotten a good review on nintendolife (formerly WiiwareWorld, etc):

http://dsiware.nintendolife.com/reviews/2009/04/paper_plane_dsiware

Having said that, this continues the awful trend. I will probably get paper airplane as it is the closest to something I'll enjoy and it is relatively cheap, though insanely overpriced compared to what something similar would cost on the iPod touch. Namely, FREE. I guess we'll have to hope that 3rd party developers make much, much, much better use of DSiWare, because it's obvious Nintendo has no plans to do anything good with it. Why, I don't know.

Bizarrely I am now far more excited about the prospect of buying a used GBA SP. I'm planning to do so today or tomorrow. I can't wait! EDIT: I recently picked up a copy of Mario Kart Super Circuit and it is great. I'd never played it before. My kids have a GBA SP and I've been borrowing it! EDIT2: and previously was playing Super Mario Land 2. Also great, and you can't play that on a DS Lite!

I am interested in Cave Story, it just seems like we've been waiting on it forever. And I've got some interest in Super Meat Boy.

I suppose I should have refrased my statement, and say: "is there anything on the virtual console to look forward to other than Gley Lancer?"

Speaking of Super Meat Boy, they announced the first Indie Game-based "Guest Character." It's quite a whopper of a character...

You can go to one of their blog posts zoom in a couple of times on that Flash-based animated spritesheet, and see Tim-Meat's sprite.

GaijinGames has shown off their follow-up to Bit.Trip Beat, Bit.Trip Core.

Instead of a Break-Out/Arkanoid type game where you move a paddle around, you press a direction on the dpad as a dot runs over it. It's like a really vintage looking DDR.

I'd embed the videos if I knew how.

I have to admit, I like this style a lot. All chiptuney and oldskool. I hope these guys start working on DSiware stuff too.

It looks like Cosmic Ark meets DDR.

I'm in.

*yawn*

WiiWare

Penguins & Friends - Hey! That's My Fish! (Gammick Entertainment, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 800 Wii Points™): The penguins are hungry and need your help. Catch all the fish you can before someone steals them from you. Strategy is fundamental in this exciting game. Keep moving ahead of the other penguins so you don't get trapped, and try to get to the ice floes that hold more fish. One to four players can play Penguins & Friends at the same time, provided they can handle the polar cold. The board is made up of ice blocks with a set number of fish under them. The ice blocks are hexagonal and form a structure like a beehive. The starting position of the ice blocks can change, creating different game boards.

Virtual Console

Tower Toppler™ (Commodore 64, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Weird things are happening on Planet Nebulus. Someone or something has begun building huge towers on the sea floor without a construction license. Your mission is to ascend each of the eight cylindrical towers, passing various obstacles along the way, and to trigger the tower's destruction mechanism to demolish the evil threat. Praised upon its original 1987 release for its graphical innovation, this is considered to be the most outstanding game from Hewson. Don't miss out on this classic favorite.

Day 1 for me. It looks VERY similar to BTB but I want to see how digital controls feel compared to the analog controls of the last one. I STILL haven't finished Growth yet. I need to go back to that and finally memorize the whole thing.

Yeah, you people weren't going to buy either of those anyway. So the title stays for this week.

Makes me wonder if the people who chose it associate something very bad with May 4th. Or maybe they'll get shitfaced tomorrow on Cinco de Mayo and drunk-upload games, not unlike drunk dialing an ex.

I actually saw the Crash Bandicoot XBLM "sale" this week and thought: Surely Nintendo is offering something better, right?

WRONG.
