Wii Shop Thread: ***FINAL FANTASY 3 IS OUT ON THE VC***
Bah, I hope they end up being the same content-wise. I could get it for either system, but don't see me liking the 360 controller for this one.

Glad they are making it multi-platform so more people can play it, I just hope the Wii version gets all the content the 360 version does.

edit: just read the article.... crap
It doesn't sound like it will, though. See the article. They are already almost out of WiiWare space and it's only half done. Of course the fact that this game is still only halfway done may point to greater problems... like never getting it on any platform.

Yeah, I read the article right after I posted and was disappointed ... I think I have a usb controller for my pc that has a good D-pad, so the pc version could be an option.

I've got a Hori Real Arcade Pro EX-SE, so I'm pretty set for a "dpad", so to speak. Also there are the Street Fighter pads which people rave about. However, I have yet to see anything about this Super Meat Boy game that actually gets me all that interested in it anyway. I presume I'm missing something. At least on the xbox we'll have a demo to try. The Wii definitely won't be getting a sale from me. The xbox may not either.

This week, Europe got 3 WiiWare games, Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth - WiiWare/1000 Points, Dracula: Undead Awakening - WiiWare/1000 Points, and Reel Fishing Challenge - WiiWare/500 Points.
No VC games, wow. The least you could of done is released a piece of shit VC game to at least have something.
Like Mother or something.

http://www.siliconera.com/2010/02/26/only-three-virtual-console-games-for-japan-next-month/
Japan is only getting three VC games in March:
Super Famicom
Romancing Saga 2
Sutte Hakkun

Virtual Console Arcade
Moon Cresta

Obviously Romancing Saga 2 is the big release, but as Siliconera pointed out, Sutte Hakkun is also interesting. Originally released for the Satellaview (Then as a limited-run SFC cartridge in 1999), Sutte Hakkun was the first game developed by Indieszero, the developers of the DS title Retro Game Challenge.

I'm probably going to get Happy Hammerin’ because, first of all, what a name, also it's only 500 points and it got a decent review on nintendolife.com. Who doesn't like whack-a-mole at least somewhat? This looks like a fun enhancement of the concept and my kids should like it too - playing multiplayer with them should be fun. I'm probably also going to get MM10, though I'm not sure why, since I'll probably suck at it. I'll definitely be playing in easy mode, thank you very much! Will wait on reviews of Dart Rage, but it's another possibility if it turns out to be well done.

Picked up Dart Rage this afternoon only because I couldn't play my ps3. I'm pretty happy with it. The presentation is a bit lacking but it plays quite well. Part of me would have liked a little more precision but to be honest it feels more realistic this way. It's not like I'm knocking out 180s all of the time so it felt pretty close to how I play real darts.

I only played against the CPU but I imagine it would work well as a multiplayer game - especially if you have a few beers to go along with it.

Can we get a name change, please?

BTW, if you thought Mega Man 9 was hard or challenging, I have something I must pass forward to you:

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! WEENIES! YOU'RE A BUNCH OF PUNY WEENIES! You have no idea how fucking hard Mega Man 10 is. This is like Mega Man 9's difficulty, then given steroids, 10 tons of spikes, and given even more steroids! HOLY HELL IS IT HARD!

Who exactly thought MM9 was hard? I never got around to beating it, but it wasn't due to difficulty. The original MM games were much harder, especially 1+2, at least IMO.

I beat MM 1 and 2, and I wasn't able to beat Wily's Castle in 9.

Really? Admittedly I haven't played much of the castle yet, but the robots themselves were pretty damn easy IMO, so I lost interest once I got to the castle. I had planned to go back to the game before MM10 came out, but schoolwork had other ideas. I guess I should make sure to play the castle area before MM10 if you say it is that much harder.

I disagree completely.

Okay, Mega Man 10 done.

Wily's Castle is a Grade A pain in the ass. However, the final boss fight is a complete JOKE. However, the fight before that is a complete BITCH. I mainly had trouble on Wily 2, as it's easily the hardest level. 1 is insanely long too, with 3 boss fights, and not mini-bosses either. I might be wrong about this, but I think Capcom stole some work from hackers on this level.

EDIT: Okay, WTF!? There's no New Game + in Mega Man 10 like in 9. BULLSHIT!

Wait, what? HARD MODE!? DOUBLE BULLSHIT!

wow do i even dare to download MM 10. I thought 2-6 werent bad at all...1 gave me some trouble...but 9 I couldnt beat. Do i even dare to spend the points on this one?

Is MM1 different on the VC than the original NES version? Because the Orange Blob Monster on Wily's stage in the original NES version was freaking impossible (for me, at least) without the select button trick.

I didn't think MM9 was too bad difficulty-wise.

This week, Europe got 1 VC game and 2 WiiWare games, Zaxxon - VC Arcade/500 Points, Bit.Trip Void - WiiWare/600 Points, and Mega Man 10 - WiiWare/1000 Points.

I've never played FFIV. Yes, I know. I'm pretty sure I've got the GBA version of FFIV somewhere. I've heard that was a "lousy" port, though. Is that true? Is the portable one "bad" enough to justify getting this version?

Not that I'd have time to play anyway, though...stupid grad school, taking all of my free time.

From what I understand, the difficulty was reduced compared to the JPN version.

US FFII = JPN FFIV "Easy Type."

Easy Type was a separate release; Zeromus' final form was completely different in this version (though the US release it was kept the same as the original).

I don't know about any other content differences though.

I'm probably up for Max & the Magic Marker, but not until I finally beat MM10 (on easy mode, mind you - I'm too much of a MM wimp to beat it on Normal, or even get very far!) Would like to wait for reviews on it anyway, but it does sound fun.

I know this has been covered before, but where do you guys get these press releases from? I want to link directly to the press release for a friend of mine that I'm sure will love the news about Final Fantasy.

Thanks.

Nintendo's press site, they post the Nintendo Download press releases every Monday, ~5am PST.

I was excited for max and the magic marker, so I got it on pc a couple weeks back. Very disappointed, there was one puzzle in the entire game where I had to stop and think for a minute, but even it was pretty easy. Almost every puzzle was just a matter of build a makeshift ladder/staircase. Might be good for someone who has a kid, seems like something I would have liked a lot when I was younger.

Good concept, and may be worth picking up if you want something easy to mess around in. I enjoyed it, but around halfway through I just stopped playing - took me around a week before I got around to finishing it.

Would like to see the game do well enough to get a sequel, so that they could possibly expand on the puzzles and put more ideas into how to use the marker.

I didn't try to 100% the game though, so maybe some of the collectibles are where the challenge is. I don't care enough to go back and check though, would rather turn on a different Wii-platformer (Maybe I will play lostwinds again)
Never beat FFII(IV) Which version do you guys recommend? VC/SNES, GBA, or DS?
I would say the VC or DS version. Both are good, but it all comes down to if you want to play the SNES version on the tv or the game with DS graphics on the DS.

The DS version is pretty dang hard, it's tuned way up from any previous version and requires a good amount of grinding if you don't want your butt handed to you in every battle.

The SNES version is an "easy mode" adaptation of the original game and is pretty much a cakewalk.

Just in case that could affect your decision.

GBA version is riddled with glitches. Stay far away from it.

If the only difference is putting some make believe hat on my mantle about how I grinded my way through the same game with the exception of a graphic switch on one of the final bosses, I fail to see how recommending this version would be folly. You're not accomplishing anything more, other than some nonexistent achievement that - would you even find them to begin with - you'd have no one to brag about, and honestly, would you ever care if someone actually knew what you were talking about?

VC version is fine. Game is great. Bring me FF6.

Thanks for the input. Think I might get this off the VC in a few weeks after I beat what I'm currently playing.

The only reason I was considering the GBA version is that I can play it on the go, and hook it up to my GBA Player at home. However I did this with FFVI Advanced and the audio and graphics were quite painful once I hooked it up to my 50' TV w/ surround sound.

It's wonderful to play the SNES version of FF 2/4 again. The translation is just off enough that it occasionally sounds like olde english.

The difficulty bump from US SNES to US FF Chronicles never seemed too extreme to me. It's been a while but the last time I replayed the PSX version I don't think I did any grinding until the very end.

I'm excited to see how the VC version of Final Fantasy 3/6 plays. I'm hoping the random crashes with Relm's sketch ability are still intact. Not because I want things to crash but because of what happened to me way back in 1994. I was playing the game on Super Nintendo, oblivious to the dangers of Relm's sketching. I used sketch in a fight and things got weird. The enemies all turned colors, my characters started glitching out, it was the beginning of the end for my save file. Until I actually got through the fight. After we won, the screen returned to normal. Things weren't all kosher though, I checked my inventory and discovered that I had hundreds of the best items in the game. Economizers, Genji Gloves, Atma Weapons, Cursed Shields, etc. My crew was decked the fuck out from then on out. Kefka went down so very hard.

I have some good news. Last night I dug out my Turbo Duo and hooked it up mostly for some Dracula X. I expect this to trigger something at Konami/Nintendo and we'll see the VC release of Rondo of Blood next week.
