I did not buy a Wii, and I am really glad I didn't after seeing that list, as there is not one game on there that is a must have for ME personally, and certainly not enough games to warrant me to purchase a 250$ console and accessories. Now keep in mind I have absolutely nothing to whine about as I did not buy one, thankfully.
Frankly, I do not like either of the 3 consoles, so I am biased in the fact that I am choosing to partake in none of them, simply because there is nothing that I personally want to play on them.
What I am looking for in a console:
A huge amount of Japanese type games, preferably tons of RPG's, but of course I am open to other genre's as long as its wacky and fun. Oh and these games have to be released in the USA as well. Give me lots of monster collecting games, please.
Good SINGLE PLAYER experience (give me something I can play by myself not something that requires 4 other human beings in the room with me in order for me to be able to enjoy the game).
Good Online without hackers (yes I know, this will never happen but I can dream can't I, heh)
NO FPS GAMES: I am sorry, I hate FPS games, yes I have tried the genre, it is not for me, you may feel the same way about monster collecting games, which is my favorite genre, so we are even then, ok? I refuse to play any FPS type games. I am not going to waste money on a game I know that I will hate just because everyone else says its the best thing on earth.
Long Games - If I am going to drop 50$ on the latest game, you better be giving me some epic game that has at least 50 hours of gameplay and is endless in potential, not some game that I will become bored with within an hour or 2. Pokemon Pearl cost me 34.99 and I have gotten well over 120 hours out of it, so if I am going to drop 50$ for a game, it better be something amazing. I guarantee you I will have played over 500 hours of Pokemon Pearl before I am done with it, in fact I will never be done, it may take me years to play 500 hours of it but I will do it. I played Sapphire for the max of 999:99 hours, and many more hours beyond that. Obessing over the breeding system in the games will do that to you!
Graphics : I could care less as long as its reasonable, I really don't care if Wii graphics are the same as gamecube etc... its null for me, I just don't care. Whats important to me is if a game has controls that are good and not botched. A game with flawed controls is unplayable imo. Controls and Gameplay are the 2 main factors I look at when buying a game. Usually reviews will tell you if there is a serious control problem with a game, so that is not an issue. I do not want to buy a game that is very buggy and glitchy either.
Gaming hardware and system specs and stuff: Again, I just don't care, if it has games that I will personally like, thats all that matters.
The DS and the GBA fulfill all of these, and thus they are my systems of choice. I especially like that the DS system is actually making an attempt to create monster collecting games beyond pokemon, even if they don't sell that good I don't care, if I want to play them I will.
When I look to buy a game I think will I like this game, not anyone else, will I like this game, is this a game I will play through, if it is not, then I do not buy it no matter what the reviews say, it could be a perfect 10/10 but whats the point if it is not a game that I will enjoy playing? I buy games for myself to play personally, not for others to play, so I should base what I buy on what I like to play.
I am sick of people who say that you NEED to buy the latest gaming system to enjoy games, the truth is you do not. I have a stack of about 59 gamecube games and most of them are unplayed, it would be extremely stupid for me to buy a Wii at this point as it would likely collect a lot of dust.
I also forgot to mention probably the biggest reason why I do not have a Wii: I do not like 3d graphics, call me a freak if you want that is fine by me. I just cannot perceive and see games in 3d like others can or like kids can (kids seem to only like 3d games). I am not sure why this is, maybe I started gaming when I was too old, I started when I was 18 and I am 25 now. I didn't own any video games as a kid because my parents could not afford to buy them for me, but now I have made up for lost time. It seems that whenever I try to play a 3d game I get lost quickly, cannot make that critical jump to the next platform, or it takes me 50 tries to do it, only to get to the next platform and have to do the same thing 50 times again in order to get it. Then I mess up and hit the wrong button on the controller because there are too many buttons (give me A, B and a d-pad thank you!). Angle does not help as if I cannot see the platform and the distance between the 2 platforms that I am supposed to jump my character over to its impossible for me to do it, maybe I just have very very bad timing. Because I get bored with trying to jump from one area to another after 50 tries for each platform I then put the game down, no I don't get frustrated or anything I just put it down and go back to playing something on the DS or GBA. I have only been able to play a couple very easy 3d games such as Harry Potter prisoner of Azkaban and Spyro hero's tail on the gamecube, those are very easy, but I didn't get too far into spyro before I gave up. I couldn't make it through the harry potter game either, but made it quite far in that game.
With certain 3d RPG's like harvest moon which I have tried to play it seems like buildings do nothing but obscure my view of everything, again I cannot see so I don't know where I am going then I end up running around aimlessly, which gets very boring, sigh so that doesn't work for me either. Racing games don't work either because I can never figure out the right time to turn and I always press the joystick too hard and end up crashing into a wall, and if I drive so that I can control the car I end up in last place so whats the point heh.
This is another reason why most of my gamecube games have gone unplayed for very long. I do much much better with 2d type games or pseudo 3d games, which is another reason I choose the GBA and DS as my primary systems. If I purchased an Xbox 360 I would be totally lost, as I wouldn't have a clue, it would be very wasteful for me to buy it. Yes I play many different genre's of games (I do not just play Monster games lol) and I own many systems from the Atari to the Gamecube.
