Wii To Be Profitable At Launch.
Well, that FAQ wasn't up when I posted (or I wasn't aware of it). I hope the component cables come in less than that, but who knows... I've posted my feelings on the non-included component cables elsewhere this evening. Summary - not happy.
I responded to you that there would be a multi-out cable with the Wii b/c the tech specs on the Gamespot site said "Multi-AV Out - Composit, S-Video, Component." I took that to mean a multi-out cable, but apparently that means a multi-out port. Not including a component cable sucks, but it fits the Nintendo strategy - I mean they removed the digital AV-out from the GC after a year or so b/c they decided it wasn't used by a majority of users.

I know that some online stores have listed 3rd party Component cables for like $50. If the cable is not packed in, I hope Nintendo sells it for a reasonable price.

Now that has changed, so it becomes much more reasonable for them to include the cables. I'm still hoping, though as I said, it's more of a long-term concern for me, rather than a launch-time one, since I have yet to use component for any media yet, no need to run out on day 1 for the Wii to do so.

The games use it more now and more TVs use it too.

Widescreen and HD are still somewhat limited at this point, but compare the amount of TVs now with the amount of TVs at the GC's launch that have component and it then surprises me that they don't include component cables in the box. Yes, graphics are not a priority, but do they want to purposefully handicap their system at launch? It might as well look as good as possible out of the box, right?

Ah, well, I guess we'll see. In the end it's not a huge deal; you don't NEED component cables like you don't NEED 4 controllers, especially not right away, but I'm probably going to opt for the cheapest componet option I can find at launch.

You see, everyone thinks that the GC didn't support 480p for the most part, but that is actually wrong. More than half of all GC games support progressive scan (though not necessarily 16:9). I'm pretty sure every 1st party game is 480p-capable.

Here is a list, although it is obviously not complete:

I'd make sure that little piece of info is true, unless of course you're importing from Japan, because at this moment, nothing's offical for the US in regards to a price drop.

I have to wonder with a comment like this, are you buying a system for the name alone or for what really matters, the software? A comment like "The PS3 price drop has led me to think that I can afford it so I can play Game-X" would've been far more indictive of a mature, well-thought-out choice. If you're buying for name alone and not for the joy of the games on a given system, maybe you should get out of games? Cause you seem to be missing the point. And that you'd rather spend $450 on a console and 1 controller and no games vs. $400 on a console 2 controllers and 2 games (or 6 depending on how you count) confuses me as well. But, whatever. Enjoy.

Enjoy having JUST the PS3 - I'm sure you'll have loads of fun with only the system. I hear the dashboard will be mighty pretty so that should keep you plenty busy.

Of course that PS3 may or may not be $450 stateside and it currently doesnt come with HDMI cables, may not come with component cables, will probably not have a game, and no second controller. So you are looking at a minimum of $550 to get a second controller and a game. $600 if you want that same package and TP on the Cube.

Your money, just dont forget some of your costs.

The PS3 comes with 20 games preloaded on its hard drive, and it totally won't catch on fire.
