the wii u is underpowered compared to the other 2 consoles thats just a fact. doesn't mean the console is bad though.Just played the (long) first level. It is gorgeous. Anyone who thinks the WiiU is underpowered is crazy.
wii u is what wii should have been when it comes to power don't fool your self. Wii u pretty much allowed nintendo match the 360/ps3 power.Just played the (long) first level. It is gorgeous. Anyone who thinks the WiiU is underpowered is crazy.

skyward sword didnt use a realistic style. what game did you play?Nintendo did take Zelda away from the cartoon style. It was called Twilight Princess. Skyward Sword also used a realistic style.
Most of Nintendo's cartoony games are related to the Mario and Kirby franchises, everything else is realistic or at least a serious style.
I heard good things about the first S&S, never got around to playing it. Happy that more third party companies are willing to release Wii U exclusive digital games, always a good sign (assuming it's profitable for them).Ronimo Games (Awesomenauts, Swords & Soldiers) announced Swords & Soldiers II exclusively for the Wii U eShop.
Yes, let's make them look the same as everything else. How dull would that be? Speaking solely from a graphics point of view, I'll take a game with a nice, unique art style over one that tries way too hard to look absolutely photo-realistic any day.i agree nintendo games do look great on wii u. I will also say that i would not mind seeing a zelda game look like say tomb raider type game and not so cartoon. I think couple nintendo franchises would look great going away from cartoon look of the games.
It is obviously underpowered when compared to the XboxOne/PS4 but it seems more than powerful enough to run the Nintendo games we all buy the system for. I mean, Wind Waker and 3D World just can't get any better looking, can they? I know they can but does it matter?the wii u is underpowered compared to the other 2 consoles thats just a fact. doesn't mean the console is bad though.
The difference, I think, is that the Wii U is finally in HD. There were tons of great looking Wii games all things considered (Mario Galxy, Skyward Sword, Kirby's Epic Yarn, etc.) but since they weren't HD, they looked noticeably inferior to other games of the time. If Nintendo was smart, they wouldn't stop at a WW rerelease - they could rerelease a ton of stuff in HD and sell like crazy. Seems like a no-brainer to me...The Wii had some gorgeous games, didn't change the fact it was still an overclocked Gamecube.
correct. well if you know that you shouldn't worry about people calling it underpowered. enjoy it for what it can do with the hardware it has.It is obviously underpowered when compared to the XboxOne/PS4 but it seems more than powerful enough to run the Nintendo games we all buy the system for. Honestly it should have been HD back in 2006 so to me its whoopdee doo. And the fact that its powerful than 2006 tech once again its a big whoop, specially since the other consoles still beat it in terms of certain specs when it comes to under the hood.It is obviously underpowered when compared to the XboxOne/PS4 but it seems more than powerful enough to run the Nintendo games we all buy the system for. To hardcore gamers, yes games are what matters most. To an extent anyway. There's tons of discussion and bitching about specs on GAF, but a lot of that is PC gamers whose hobby is as much their gear as it is the games. The talk over power is indeed a silly thing. We all know it's all about the games right? I knew a couple of people that went back to their Wii to play Last Story and Xenoblade Chronicles despite the fact that they all had PS3s and X360s at the time. If only all of Wii's catalog were as strong as those two titles the WiiU's support would probably be stronger at this point.
It should be said that when they launched, the power to generate HD graphics was expensive and they would have lost a lot of money on the console. Also, in 2006 very few people had HDTV's. I bought an HDTV then, it was a 32" LCD and it cost $2,000. You can get massive TV's now at a fraction of that cost.Honestly it should have been HD back in 2006 so to me its whoopdee doo. If they did that the console wouldn't have cost $250 and they would have sold probably tens of millions less.I'm in no way talking about HD from a hdtv setup. I'm just talking about power that can rival the competition at the time ( regardless of whatever excuse people want to come up with) and not just overclock a GC and call it day, then wonder why almost 75% of 3rd party multi platform games skipped the wii because the thing couldn't run them without drastic compromises.
I've been using my meter daily for about a week or two. I really don't think it does biometric stuff. It is essentially a pedometer. I like syncing it up to the board every few days and seeing how many miles I've walked. You can take walking and climbing tours of various cities/monuments/mountains and the Wii Fit meter progress is translated to those tours. When you complete them you unlock T-shirts and stuff (I have a Statue of Liberty one for climbing that and am currently working on a London walking tour). I am not even really exercising much but I did have to run a basketball practice and scrimmage with the kids since we only had 9 on the team. After that and a few days of just normal household stuff I logged in 9 miles! It is just kind of cool to see how many steps you take in a normal (or abnormal) day. Of course the distance/calorie count is an estimate since I think all it logs is steps and guesses the rest based on your Mii profile (height/weight). It does show temperature so maybe it has some way of sensing your body temp rise with activity? Not sure about that though. I always just clip it to my pocket and the temp is always in the 70's. So it definitely isn't reading body temp and there is no heart rate sensor as far as I can tell. Somehow it is measuring elevation change though - so it might be a little more sophisticated than a simple pedometer.emozolik said:Anywho, off the soapbox. For those that have the Wii Fit U, could you possibly answer a question for me? I workout regularly AT&T the gym but the biometric data scanners on the exercise bikes and the elliptical machines kinda stink. Could I use the Wii Fit Meter for these specific exercises? Will it measure calories burned while biking, weightlifting, etc? Sorry, but I tried to search via Google but couldn't find answers.
I couldn't speak highly enough of the gameplay tweaks in that game. They did great.I had already played Wind Waker several times on the Gamecube and this version blows it out of the water. It is a joy to play in HD and 16:9 aspect ratio. The tweaks they made to the game are awesome too. This is now my favorite 3D Zelda game.
Huh? Who puts out adventure games these days besides TaleTell Games? As far as I know, they aren't putting anything out on Wii U.Yeah you generally buy consoles for your interests.
I'm into platformers, adventure games, and fun party games so Nintendo games and consoles appeal to my interests a little more than Sony and a lot more than Microsoft.
I'm the same as you. I'm jaded with the FPS genre, cinematic dark grungy style games, and quick time event fests. I'm having a ton of fun with the Wii U, although I admit I love Pikmin, Zelda, and Mario. Really cannot wait for Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros this year, my most anticipated games by far. On the contrast I'm not really compelled to play my recently purchased PS4 (purchased at a huge discount) and it probably won't see much mileage until later this year.
This next generation is starting to pick up so hopefully we will see fresh new ideas for all 3 consoles within the next year or so. E3 should be fun this year.
Nintendo NES was my first console growing up... Received one for my eighth birthday in 1988 (dating myself I know). This year I bought my eight year old his first system for his birthday... The Wii U. So fandom runs deep in our house too. I think there's enough games out now to keep us interested for months. You're right though, they need to find a way to sell more consoles. The more consoles sold, the longer and more robust the lifecycle of the Wii U will be. Personally I'm hoping to see quite a few more games released on the virtual console (N64 games and GameCube games I'm looking at chu!). Right now though they've pigeonholed themselves into 1st party games making or breaking this generation, which makes me nervous. Will Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros, and a possible new Zelda be enough? And why have they taken almost two years since system launch? It may have helped having more 1st party games available at launch, but that's just speculation.I don't think many hate on Nintendo in this thread. I've been a Nintendo fan for 30 years. I just regret buying the Wii U last fall as the games just aren't there for me yet to really justify it. I should have just waited longer, and that's on me. Otherwise, my posts are just concern over how they turn it around and get sales up the next go around as I don't want to see them keep failing at hardware and eventually going under. They need to figure out a way to sell more consoles or switch to focusing on just making game.
On the horizon it looks like there's Mario Kart + Super Smash Bros and, as far as I can tell, it's dry after that. Someone mentioned a Zelda game but then that's it. It's Barbie's Priszonerz, Ponyz, Whorez, and stupid crap at Target after that.So far Wind Waker, SM3DW, NSMBU+NSLU, Pikmin 3, DKCTF and Nintendoland have made the WiiU a success to me even if I never buy another game for it. My family and I are having so much fun. A new Zelda and Metroid (please) will be icing on the cake. I'm not really looking forward to Mario Kart 8 or SSB this year though since I'm not a big fan of either of those franchises... but maybe my kids will like them so who knows.
Haha...your analogies made me laugh. I think everyone knows that there's a lot of shovelware. There's actually less on HD consoles because it's more expensive to make compared to SD consoles. Also, I agree that Avatar looked great but the story was godawful been there done that cliche. It was about as cliched as a protagonist with amnesia in a JRPG.On the horizon it looks like there's Mario Kart + Super Smash Bros and, as far as I can tell, it's dry after that. Someone mentioned a Zelda game but then that's it. It's Barbie's Priszonerz, Ponyz, Whorez, and stupid crap at Target after that.
I think that's an overall problem with the industry. Some companies make great looking games. Other companies make the crap games. It's fairly rare when someone just makes a great game (which is why I choose Wii U this time around - their games are fun - I still go back and play old NES/SNES/N64 games).
It's a lot like the movie industry. Some movies are visually spectacular (Avatar). There's plenty of day-to-day crap movies out there. It's fairly rare when you get a movie that you thoroughly enjoyed and would go back and watch over and over (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Wizard of Oz, Disney animated movies, a few musicals, maybe..).
