What games are they even playing on an ipad if you dont mind me asking.
alot of populer games from pc/game systems do get some kind of game on ipad. GTA games are now on ipad and more games will do the same in some kind of fasion.

They are very rarely anywhere near as good as the pc/game system though.
Yep, this is right on the money. I had observed all these kids on mobiles/tablets, but it didn't take until my own kid picked a 3ds over a tablet.

To be honest, I think it goes to a point that has something to do with an earlier post about "kids being born with iPhones": I think kids now are more resourceful consumers than they were when I was a kid. They're thinking about the device and all the ways they use it -- they're just not thinking "I WANT MARIO." The days of one single title selling a system -- at least from a kid's POV -- are likely behind us.

That could be a huge generalization based on my anecdotal experience. I'm just impressed that the first thing my kid pointed out when faced with 3DS vs. Tablet was that she wanted comics, too. She's not dwelling on the kinds of games or quality of games (as a gamer would), she's immediately looking to the other things she wants to do aside from games.

I wouldn't have done that as a kid...and even as an adult, it's hard for me to shake the desire to play the latest Mario/Zelda/Mario Kart even though I know the WIIU isn't for me.
I'd argue that Pokemon and possibly Skylanders are still strong system sellers from a kids POV. My kids (8 & 11) were content with their DSi handhelds and only playing my 3DS from time to time until the Pokemon X/Y announcement and are now saving their allowance to by a 3DS of their own by October. Also, imagine if Skylanders went exclusive for the next release...kids would be clamoring for that console/handheld.

Yeah, I'm probably jumping the gun on that one. But it's definitely a challenge marketing handhelds over mobiles/tablets if the handhelds are banking on so-called system sellers and not much else. Much more challenging than the good ol' days.

Skylanders is never going exclusive, and the smartest thing Skylanders has going for it is that the toys can play on any platform the portal is supported. But I imagine the next best thing would be to have a Wii U/3DS tie-in between Skylanders and Pokemon (i.e. Pokemon figures for Skylanders). I think that would be a match made in heaven for Nintendo.

I don't see this happening from either side-

1) Pokemon in Skylanders: they aren't going to confuse their market by releasing a set of toys that only work on nintendo products. It's bad enough that the parents can't figure out how S1 and S2 toys work.

2) Skylanders in Pokemon: I thought about this and it seemed like any easy way to sell games, but I don't think Nintendo would cheapen Pokemon with tie-ins like that.

Anybody else getting hammered with updates? I downloaded Super Metroid earlier and now I went to watch somethin on Hulu and I've had two updates (I'm on the second now "Installing update to system memory") and the first update was a system update.

Haha, I have to admit the Google Streetview app is much more entertaining that I would have thought. Finally got around to messing around with it. Found a really cool area in Tokyo where the streetview guy walked into a ramen house so it was like you were actually walking the streets of Tokyo and then going out for lunch.

I love that thing and it keeps getting better. You can walk around the tate modern, the grand canyon and random shops in NYC. Oddly enough, there are panoramas of bodegas and hair salons but not the nintendo world store.

I love how you can go around The Art Institute in Chicago. Funny thing I noticed about it is some pieces of art are blurred out, but can be seen pretty clearly in the reflection in the display case next to them,

With what Sony and MS have currently brought to the table, I sincerely hope Nintendo brings the Wii U games this E3.

I'm hoping Mario 3D, Smash, and Mario Kart live up to the quality of past games because I don't think Sony or MS have anything other than shooting games and multimedia functionality to offer gamers this year.

I'll give Sony a chance but I don't have any expectations from MS after seeing the direction they want to take next generation.

I don't know why people are surprised at Microsoft "new path" since it's been their ultimatum all along. The problem I have with it is that it doesn't evolve anything, was presented terribly and when they decided to reveal the thing they decided to not shove anything out there remotely resembling gameplay footage. The future of "tv" is being able to take your TV and entertainment center with you anywhere, and Microsoft isn't even close to doing that.

I think Wii U has a chance if they pull an E3 2010-like event where they are laser-focused on games. I want Gameception, with games in games and more games inside those.

I actually had no issue with the presentation itself-that was already known to be mainly showing off the features of the system-It's all this talk of how they are handling used games and forced online that is really bothering me.

After today, the Wii's unveiling looked like a masterpiece. You know you failed when Sonys stock rose 9% out of nowhere and im sure Nintendos will as well.

Other game company stocks also responded to the Microsoft announcement. Microsoft stock dropped less than 1 percent on the news, while Sony stock rose over 9 percent and Nintendo stock was up more than 2.5 percent. Both Activision and Electronic Arts saw an increase in the share price, with Activision climbing over 2.5 percent and EA up nearly 1 percent. Take Two dropped almost 1 percent.

Whelp, I wonder if Nintendo will still lower the price $100? Hopefully at least 50 and a better holiday bundle. Xbox One is dead to me unless they remove all the anti-consumer features. PS4 is still an option for me until I know more.

I'm kind of feeling the same way but damn the WiiU just became a much more viable option. If the rumors are true about having to pay full price for the license to play a used game then I can't ever see myself buying an Xbox One. I'll wait and see on the PS4. Good thing my backlog is so large - hard to believe this generation might be it for me with this hobby.

Can you provide a link to something about that full priced license stuff?

I came away from the event curious. I have always thought that the winner this generation wouldn't be based on graphics, but on performance(1080/60frames) and living room usability. TVii seemed like a good shot for Nintendo, but it doesn't live up to the promise (and doesn't work with more advanced set-ups that incorporate a receiver). At the end of the day, i don't want to casually use the giant, expensive gamepad as a TV remote. They need a remote accessory like the other consoles have.

The Xbox One functionality seems like a more polished take on that concept (by using an HDMI in that i'm assuming has you route your cable box straight to the xbox. The bigger concern I have is that watching TV that way will burnout my xbox faster than normal.

Something interesting I just noticed in the pictures, specifically this one, seems to show that the Xbox One only supports HDMI output. I'm a little surprised that even though the amount of HDMI capable TVs is reaching a saturation level, that they wouldn't include any option for even component cables.

I hope Nintendo drops the price of the Wii U Deluxe to $250. With the basic seeing less than that already (Target) I don't think that pricing is out of the question. I'd like to be able to get one for Xmas, but we are short on funds. $250 would be far more palatable.

As far as the One, I think it looks like a nice improvement over the 360. I'll get one eventually, but almost certainly not at release. I doubt it will be worth the asking price and, as noted, funds are short.

^if EA really has as many launch window titles in the pipe as they claim, it could be a really interesting launch. I trust EA (shudder) over all other publishers to deliver titles on time.

The Wii U has actually become a viable option for me now, short controller battery life and all the other setbacks now seem really minor, and my library of VC games would actually transfer over! I now have a lot of respect for Nintendo for not screwing the customer over with digital content like MS is doing.

Yep.

GameStop CEO loves next Xbox article a couple months ago makes sense. No competition from ebay/CL for used games and they'll probably get a deal for bulk license purchases.

EA no longer doing online passes makes a lot of sense now. No reason to do that when ms is effectively doing it for you.

EA developing no games for Wii U makes sense - they can't stop used games on it.

EA has actually back tracked now and said they are making games for the Wii U, lol.

I really don't get EA at all.
Has anyone tried the nyko Uboost yet? I was wondering if it was actually any good?
I have one when I bought a used Wii U and it's necessary, I think. It works really well, doesn't really add bulk (very lightweight) and the weight distribution is very good (brings minimal weight to the bottom of the gamepad). It has a stand which I have yet to use but may. I'm looking to buy the Nyko Power Pak also to compliment the UBoost (whenever it is released).

I want to know what kind of battery is contained in the U-Boost. I have had very bad experiences with rechargable nimh AA batteries encased in housings similar to the Xbox 360 play & charge battery. If it is the type of battery that is just several nimh AA batteries strung together in a pack then I would not buy it as these types of batteries tend to stop charging or lose their charge after a short period of time, maybe 50 cycles or so. However if it contains another lithium battery that is a different matter entirely.

Regardless I would go with whatever type of battery uses lithium, because it works much better in a pack than AA cells that are soldered together. Again the type of battery pack with AA cells soldered together has never worked well for me in anything no matter how well I treat it.

I would really love someone to make an AA battery pack that you clip onto the Wii U gamepad with 4 AA batteries that you can swap out. Using eneloops I bet I could get more juice out of it than the original supplied li-ion battery.

I prefer to swap AA batteries in my game controllers as its just easier, batteries running low, just swap in some more from your stash (and trust me, I have a big stash), charge up the ones that are in the controller for next time. With a built in battery I have to find a place to plug it in and unplug stuff to free an outlet to charge it, not to mention being tethered by a cord, and with the Wii U tablet battery life you will be tethered a lot.

Sounds good then! From the pictures it just looked like 2 nyko 360 batteries strapped to the Wii U. It would also be very heavy if it used 4x AA cells as well so it makes sense to use lithium to make it more lightweight.

Yeah, with the pricing I'm expecting from Sony and MS, they might not have to go with $100 off. I think $50 would probably do it. But who knows, they might want to make a big push and $100 off would certainly garner them some attention. If the One and PS4 are $500 (which I fully expect them to be) then a $250 Deluxe is a home run for Nintendo if they can do that without losing too much money. But then again, they run the risk of looking like a "discount" console if they go too cheap. It is a fine line to walk. I think making the Deluxe $299.99 would be the best approach (if those other systems are indeed $499.99).

Also, if they are really coming out with a 3D Mario game this Fall, they could make a sweet bundle with the Deluxe + that for either the current $350 pricing or maybe $300. I think that would sell decently.

You forgot "sports", "sports", and more "sports" (to paraphrase the MS reveal talking points ;)).

If it was 300 and had another game in addition to Nintendoland I'd buy it. If it was 250 and had only Nintendoland I'd buy it. If it's only got Nintendoland and is 300 I'd keep waiting.

I dunno about price drop but don't be surprised if they offer something like $100 giftcards with a purchase. I got a 360 with that deal only a year after it came out and that was obviously selling pretty well.
As much as I like the Galaxy games, I really hope the new Mario is a return to the 64/Sunshine style.
Absolutely - I would be pretty excited if it was that type. If it is a Mario Galaxy I will be happy for the console (in that I think it would help sales), but I might not even get that game as soon as it comes out (though waiting for price drops on stuff like that is pretty futile).

I could see a $50 drop and then maybe some bundle/gift card deals. I think that is more likely than a straight-up $100 price cut.
