Wii U - General Discussion Thread
well he already has a wii so was thinking of selling that for cash on ebay or craigs list and go to target and get the white 8 gb system for 240
a modded wii is wonderful

Apparently some people think it's going to because of the price of the White Premium one coming out in Japan. I don't know how much the Black one costs in Japan, so...might be true, might not, especially because we have Nintendoland packed in.
anyone think we will get a wii u price cut once new systems are launched? my 7 year old wants his own wii U for his room but don't want to pay another 350 bucks
Isn't this the system you don't really care for? Why not just move the one you have to his room instead of buying another whole unit?

i play alot of wii games on it
If they pull another ambassador program, I hope gamecube games are included.
As part of the $.30 promo? Why would they jump from NES to GCN games?

Speaking of, do we think Nintendo has the network to push 1.3gb games?

There are plenty of multi-GB games on the eShop already, so nothing should be stopping them from doing it besides their desire to do it.
i play alot of wii games on it
Well your son has a wii in his room. So why can't you just switch? Put his wii wherever you play and the wii u in his room

Trine's 2GB and Lego Land is 20GB+ so yeah. I think the reluctance might be related to the limited space offered on the wii u, but then again it tells me before downloading if I don't have enough disk space. Not sure why they havent marketed an official external drive like they did with sd cards for wii.
I'm assuming there is some exclusive relationship with Best Buy here that would prevent that.
Best Buy also does Nintendo Zone for the 3DS, maybe they do have some exclusive relationship with each other.
What rumor? I haven't heard that anywhere. And I loved Star Tropics but I doubt anyone would give a damn if they were reviving that series.
Holy crap I better address all these quoted posts really damn fast!!

Regarding Retro, it's Star Tropics U. I posted that a few weeks ago and stand by it.

Regarding Mario,,giving the exact title's a lot riskier..rather ill state one of the titles that was being debated and that should give you a good idea what the final title is...Super Mario Retroverse U.

Regarding Mario Kart..believe me, I expected an all new game too and am surprised its just a souped up 7. If you wanna sell to a potential username, with guaranteed sales sometimes you need to play it safe with something that's sold well.

Regarding Smash Bros...in the trailer, with the silhouette stuff, the camera is flying down an open space with the characters standing on the sides. There's a LOT if characters this time. Samurai had said he didn't want as many but they decided to go all out this time for the fans. They're wanting to do a Dojo type thing again since the last time was received very well.

Regarding 3DS direct: the U and 3DS directs are bith happening period. They had to decide 3DS or U first. Due to the U's situation and anxious people U is going first. 3DS a few days later.

Regarding Zelda: I saw one post say bs because how can I be so detailed with a 2015 game. I don't know the exact storyline for the new game. I only know its the longest in the series. I also stand by they're trying to decide which core concept to go with..they're looking for a happy middle between those that want an easier, more hand hoody experience and those that want something far more difficult. At the same time provide something more open world. THAT'S what's making development take quite a while.

Here's why I hate rumor mongering..some people who do get inside info are in fact correct but this stuff can change daily, hell hourly and if that happens then you have egg on your face. Look at Retro last year. That trailer was in the actual presentation schedule and got pulled at the last possible moment. That's why this rumor stuff can be so shaky. Some of us try to be generous and if it changes on a dime you're left in a bad spot. As of right now, Retro, 3D Mario, kart, Smash, trailers for X and Yoshi..all 100 percent sure to be in that direct. If any mod has any questions or concerns, please feel free to PM. As of this hour I can stand by my statements

If somehow mildly true one would wonder how much trouble you can get in for something like this.

Nintendo only gets those who leak information in trouble if it's found out. I really think the person on NeoGaf is...out of his mind, to be honest. Being surprised that MKU is an HD version of 7...? Really? They had two years to work on it and on a completely new system and level of graphics, give me a break. It's obviously going to disappoint. Heck, I halfway expect the Maka Wuhu glitch to be in there, assuming the track is in the game.

But, you know, he could prove me wrong with this info, but I doubt it.

I call bullshit to Startropics U. Partially because I been waiting like almost 20 years for my damn Startropics Sequel, partially because it's one of those lost franchises I don't think many people know about.

Also Zelda needs to be more open world more exploration based.

Star Tropics U would be nice as a revived IP. I would love Zelda to be open world/sandbox with an online co-op available.

I'll believe when I see it and then I still won't believe it. Star Tropics isn't like Kid Icarus where it stayed in the general consciousness long after the NES era even though there were no new games until recently. I mean Id be psyched about it, but I'd be one of a few, in general they won't care. It won't be worth the money.

No, I mean if they do another ambassador program like they did for early 3ds owners. Rumors are another one is being considered for Wii U owners...

So basically since the 3DS's year one flop we expect price drops and charity from Nintendo?
And when we get price drops and charity we expect more, because they used a different name this time?

And what are they going to give away? Let me guess, more virtual console games.
These aren't rumors, they're morons who think they're entitled to something free.

Umm... AC3 was 17GB, so I think capacity isnt an issue.

If Nintendo goes a heavy price cut, then yes, it is reasonable to expect some sort of goodwill gesture to early adopters. The 30 30 30 promotion is pretty nice, but the 3DS Ambassador program really hit it out of the park.

What console price drop has there been? The only thing I've seen are retailers dropping the price to get rid of them.

Sales aren't charity, they're sales because they want more people to buy something than they would get if they didn't do anything. They want Virtual Console to not bomb right out of the gate, so they're giving people more incentives to buy them now.

Is there some kind of obsession with labelling? What's the difference?
$60 off is as good a price drop as you can expect. There's a Wii U deal on this site every week. Does it matter who eats the cost?
30 cents for a game is not a sale, it's a gift.

Because you're spinning all of these things to be much bigger than they really are.

It does matter who drops it because Nintendo doesn't have any need to reimburse early adopters for sales held by Target or Best Buy. If Super Metroid were going to be a gift, it would be free, not $0.30. It's a great sale and a good way to get people to see why Wii U VC is better than the Wii's VC.

I'm guessing this ND will include...
- Upcoming features for the summer Wii U update (potentially fall info as well)
- Wonderful 101
- Pikmin 3
- 3D Mario
- Mario Kart
- Wind Waker HD
- X
- Smash Bros.
- Retro's game...maybe

That should cover an hour.

Indeed - I've never heard of it before reading this thread (or rather, I might have heard the name before, but have no idea what it is and wasn't even aware it was a Nintendo thing). I'm not so sure it would be a home run, especially in terms of selling more consoles. But that's just my own bias - maybe longtime Nintendo fans have been chomping at the bit for this. But how many of them don't already have a Wii U?

Not every game has to be a system-seller. Every system needs solid games in its library, not just blockbusters. No one bought a Wii for Zack & Wiki, or a Gamecube for Chibi-Robo.

Startropics and Zoda's Revenge are on the Wii Virtual Console. They're also hard as hell. They're basically Zelda clones with a chapter-based progression and a lack of an overall, cohesive world.

But considering the creative director on whatever Retro was doing left for Armature, it either means the game is done OR the game has some serious issues. Let's hope it's the former, because...yeah, that would suck. It won't be a new IP for this fact alone. No one would leave a project they have creative autonomy over. So it's most likely something they went 'okay, no more of this' over. Keep in mind, this was one of, if not the last people there from when Metroid Prime was made.

I was referring to the original quoted rumor where the guy made it sound like everyone was going to go nuts when they heard what the project was. I'm saying this wouldn't do that ;).

This:
1. Retro: Finally after at least a few years development, their game is finally ready to be unveiled. What is it? It's an old Nintendo IP that people have wanted them to do for a while, but no one thought they had the guts to do it-but they did. I'm very happy with the one they chose to do. It'll definitely fall into that "Wooooo helllll yeah!!!" category for a vast majority I think. Trailer set to be shown at the Direct.

OK, maybe he didn't say "system seller' but the hyperbole in that second to last sentence seemed to imply it.

Personally I'd love a new Chibi-Robo game. They need to make that!

Theres also the quote ( dont remember the details) from one of the retro employees or someone i forgot who that gave the hint, something about instead of rolling with samus youll be "doing a roll of a different kind" which sounds like a nod to peppy hare to me.

Actually by buddy did buy a Wii for Zack and Wiki (after playing it on mine, though).

And Chibi-Robo... Oh how I would love a sequel (or a translation of the DS game that wasn't fucking park patrol) (though no, not a system seller, I agree)

Hopefully by this time next week we are all very giddy for the future of Wii-U
I hope you temper those expectations at least a bit. I expect them to say 'everything announced so far? Here it is, and all of it comes out between now and next June worldwide.'

I'm hoping that Mario kart feels like a new entry and not a rehash of MK7. I hope that the new 3D Mario makes me excited. And I hope that Retro shows off their new game and it blows my mind.

Waiting to see what Sony fires with at e3, and if it all seems good, then depending on what they price it at.... but I'll probably be springing for a Wii-U very soon if Sony doesn't completely wow me. I've pretty much already counted Microsoft out. The Wii U seems like it has everything I want, backwards compatibility, and no bullshit... and ability to use external hard drives....and Mario and Zelda of course. Whats the big difference between basic Wii U and the deluxe one? just the hard drive size right?

I don't think many will be satisfied with them by just showing it off.

And we get a Smash Bros. trailer.

Already, my expectations have been exceeded.

It's pretty odd that it looks like Nintendo may end up having the most progressive 8th gen console with the Wii U. Hopefully Sony doesn't pull a Microsoft because I'd still like to get a PS4. If they do, then it looks like I'll be a one console household for the first time since the SNES.

Yeah. The Deluxe Model also comes with the charging cradle, the console stand, Nintendo Land and has a rewards program for online games purchased.

The cradle is really quite nice to have, but you can pick it up at Target for $5-6 if you can find it on clearance.
