Didn't see it anywhere, but good to talk about.

It's $20 and people say it's not worth it, but people forget it will be packaged with a game that Nintendo didn't unveil yet. My money is on a new duck hunt.

I think it would be interesting.

I like the way you hold it. Good for poses, although I wish the nunchuk part of it was connected over the top instead of the bottom, but I don't think that would be practical.

Hey, that picture shows the reticle pretty aligned with the wiimote. I wonder how they did that? Also that guy's holding it wrong.

Anyway, $20 for a SMG type wiimote gun shell and game (Duck Hunt), is very good. Third party places are selling just the shell for $20 and most of them are super cheap plastic and break in two seconds.

Anyway, if you custom build a plastic stock to reach your shoulder the zapper will be even more awesome. Then maybe paint it or something.

I wish the nunchuck was detachable, so it could just be a handgun + nunchuck. Unless it controls like a light gun, I can only imagine controlling a pointer on screen to be awkward, and certainly not more immersive than a separate mote n chuck.

Looks like cheap crap to me. Serisouly, how is this any better than the junk Brando has been making? Maybe it would be more impressive if the nuchuk portion was built in.

Crap-- that's going to take me 20 minutes just to string the nunchuck wire into the zapper... maybe, I'd really like to see how to cord hooks in.

And this better work with my rechargeable Nyko battery covers.

i agree. something more like a pistol. i can't see playing a game for any length with my arms in that awkward position. and i know you won't exactly be pointing the controller at the screen. with my tv, the cursor never lines up perfectly to what you're aiming at. which is fine. but it makes a gun less advantagous.

Looks pretty cheap, yea, but what do you expect out of something that's just meant to hold the remote? You're not going to be throwing it around or stomping on it, I assume.
Geez, it would've been so easy to replicate this lil bugger:
I have that. The BBs always get stuck in the chamber and it rattles like a bitch.

I'd be more excited if the nunchuck went in the front and the trigger area was on the back side of the gun. Would hold much more naturally then. Regardless, it's going to be packaged with cheap game, I'll be getting it.
id pick it up if it came with a wii sports-type mini games to use with the gun, that would be awesome
I think the consensus is it's coming with Wii Duck Hunt.

I watched this Umbrella Chronicles/Zapper trailer on the G4 press conference coverage, and it makes it look like it can function as a light gun. At one point, the woman is holding it up to her face with one eye closed like she's directly shooting at the screen instead of using a recticle. Maybe it's just false hope and the trailer is misleading. If not, that would be quite awesome.

hmm, i'm tempted to think it's false hope. but that's very good news if it's true.

Um, okay, what are you guys talking about? A couple of you are expressing doubt that it's a "light gun." If that ain't a light gun, then what the hell is it, prey tell? Please, enlighten me.

Anyways, I don't think it looks cheap at all. It looks pretty solid to me, and for $20 with a game, that's a hell of a good deal.

Also, is it just me, or was the woman in the video at the Zapper unveiling at Nintendo's press event really cross-eyed?

Light guns sense light from the screen, thus they are very accurate as to where you are aiming.

The Wiimote isn't as accurate, if you notice moving the cursor around the screen, it's seldom ever exactly where you are pointing on the TV, especially if you have a big TV. It's fairly close but not spot on.

Thus to aim, you have to have a cursor on the screen (think the red dot in Zelda) to be able to tell where you are aiming. Unlike a light gun where you can just aim with site on the gun etc. with nothing on the screen.

All the Zapper is, is a shell for the Wiimote and nunchuck, so it won't be a light gun. All it will be is a different way to aim the Wiimote and move an aiming cursor/reticle around the screen.

To many, that's not as appealing as a true light gun as it takes the challenge out of aiming, which was the appeal of light gun games like Duck Hunt, Point Blank etc.

Oh, there's a link in the Ghost Squad thread that Sega is allowing you to calibrate the remote so you can use it as a light gun (specifically discussing the Zapper).

Yea, I'm very happy about that. My hope now is that RE incorporates that too. I'm ok with cursors when just using the wiimote, but if I have a gun shell I better be able to shoot and aim like a gun.
You have to calibrate any normal light gun anyway, so that's not too surprising.
It's the first confirmation of calibrated controls that makes this exciting. I've been worried that developer's would all go the way of onscreen cursors and call them gun games.
Oh. Well DUH it's just a shell. Jeez, people.
Not gonna respond to the rest of the comment?

I'm really curious as to how you're going to use this as a light gun.
On the Wii play shooting games, is there a cursor?
I'd be more excited if the nunchuck went in the front and the trigger area was on the back side of the gun. Would hold much more naturally then.
i completely agree. the trigger should have been in the rear. someone suggested that you could use the z button as a trigger, but if it is going to be a trigger, make it trigger-like.

a pistol alternative might be more useful than this.

Yes there is a cursor, its like playing a light gun game with a mouse.

For actual light gun controls, the wiimote can function like any other LCD light gun, calibration for your shooting position.

The fact that two of the big announcement were plastic shells, it's like Nintendo wasn't even trying this year.

I have to wonder if the new wiifit pad would work with a game like Police 911, where you can move around and duck behind cover. That combined with a calibrated zapper would make an awesome experience, and a great workout.

Who was, really?
Who was, really?
Well, Sony tried, but didn't try hard enough as far as I'm concerned.

And they were the only ones really needing it, anyway. Microsoft can ride their big franchises for the year and Nintendo can just keep doing what they already are.

Well this video
http://gamevideos.com/video/id/13145

Shows that RE:UC at this point does not support the zapper (my definition of support). The main firing button is clrearly the B button for which you have to use the front trigger, and also have to hold the gun akwardly if you are right handed.

The zapper was just announced so maybe they will fix this and put the primary fire on the back of the gun (like every other gun in existence).

I'm not too worried though because I know someone will eventually come along and make a kick ass shell if the zapper ends up a dud.

Wow, thats the first time I've seen a bullpup configuration that doesnt seem ergonomic, even if its not even a real gun..

I really don't like the design... it looks horrible and uncomfortable. They should have made it one handed and only cradled the Wiimote- that would've been best. I doubt most light-gun based games would need the nunchuk and if they did, I would've preferred it to be free from the light-gun.

It's... weird.

It looks like two Nintendo designers were agrueing between making it a shotgun or a hand gun and they came up with this 50/50 split.

I'll probably buy it too since its only $20 and comes with a game (I'm assuming it's something very simple) because I figure I can just use the Wiimote and nunchuk without having to use the Zapper cradle.
If you don't like the design and just want a gun shell for the Wiimote, buy this:

I'm sure everyone's heard about it. I think it looks better than every other gun shell in the pipeline.
i'd forgotten about that one. that one looks really good to me. i'd like to read a review someplace. but i like how it looks.

edit- i found a review here. http://gadgets.fosfor.se/wii-light-gun/ if i get a gun shell, i'm getting this one.
Wii Zapper is going to be bundled with a Legend of Zelda bow and arrow/cross bow game.

You heard it here first.
Damn, I was about to post this earlier when my guy called me after the conference, but figured it wasn't that huge of a deal. Though I suppose it IS Zelda.

Retails for $19.99, Zapper+Crossbow Training disc.

I'll wait to hear it from Nintendo.

Who knew there was another Zelda game being made..??
Man, I wanted this Zapper for when Umbrella Chronicles came out!

This is what I want to know: Will it be "Zelda Cross Bow Training WITH Wii Zapper!" OR will it be "Wii Zapper with Zelda Cross Bow Training!"

Because the title of that can determine the price :(
If it's the Wii Zapper, and they ad a bonus pack of this Zelda CT..it can still be $20. But a game w/ an accessory..can be $50..or even $60 (thanks, Boogie..)
