Hmm, I wonder how difficult the game is without buying any of the extra guns.
You can always try it out on your PC for free. I only played for 30 minutes or so, but it was fun and easy during that time.

I'll just wait for the phone version because for me, playing on the phone and playing on the PC are two very different experiences. I suppose I could use my Wacom tablet, but I'm trying to keep it sealed so I can maybe sell it for a good price.

What I do when I'm bored:

Total WP Xbox Live Games/Apps: 118 (including 8 delisted)
Free Games/Apps: 11
Games to receive a sale: 58
Games not to receive a sale, but get a price drop to $.99: 5
Games never to go on sale: 44

So out of the 107 games that cost money, 63 of them either went on sale or had a price drop to $0.99 (58.9%).

However, it's probably not fair to count games that came out within the last 3 months as not going on sale because they haven't had time to yet. There are 11 of those, so out of the 96 games that are 3 months or older, 63 have gone on sale and 33 haven't. So 65.6% of games 3 months or older have gone on sale or seen price drops.

Just thought I'd share since I know there are a few other CAGs who are number-nerds as well. I can't promise any of these numbers are exact, but they should be pretty close.

Personal Stats:

I own 54 WP XBox Live games (7 Free, 47 paid)
I've spent $121.48 on games (including tax)
I've paid full price for 4 (PvZ, Angry Birds, Star Wars Cantina, Star Wars Battle for Hoth)
I've only skipped 4 DotW's since I've owned my phone (Cro-Mag Rally, The Sims 3, Earthworm Jim, Brain Challenge)

thanks, like the numbers. There will be some of those old games that never see a dotw, just like live. Now which ones...

Funny, I skipped the same dotw games you did. Exactly.

It seems fairly clear that the Game Room games probably won't go on sale, as none of them have yet (though I think they'd be great candidates for a $0.99 price drop).

I'd love to put together similar numbers for XBLA games, but it's at least 4 times as big as the WP marketplace, so I don't envision myself ever doing it. I just had some free time at work today and thought I'd put together a comprehensive spreadsheet.

wish I had patience to wait for sales.

Own: 69 (technically 70, but Star Wars Cantina was delisted and got erased from my phone when I had to do a factory reset because an update messed up my wifi)

Free: 7
Bought on Sale/price drop: 6
Games bought full price: 57
Total spent: hell if I know, close to $200

I play my phone games at work a lot. I'm a security guard and work thirds. sit in a shack most of the night. Play my phone games and watch Netflix. lol

It's a lot easier for me to be patient with digital games because I usually don't have to worry about them going out of stock. So far, I have 14 Live games (and about 17 non-Live games). Of those, I've paid for 8, all on sale for 99 cents each except for Kinectimals (which was $1.99). There are very few games that I am willing to pay more than a dollar for: The Oregon Trail, Full House Poker, and ilomilo. And I already own these on other platforms, so I'm willing to wait for them to drop. I'm not confident that they ever will, but who knows.

If we ever happen to get Game Dev Story or a Kefling game, those will probably be day-one purchases for me. That goes for Scribblenauts as well, although I would really much rather have a 3DS sequel.

EDIT: Oh damn, I didn't realize that Scribblenauts Remix has already been released. Last I heard, it was still just a bunch of speculation. Well, maybe there's hope that this'll come to WP7. I still really want a new game for 3DS, though.

Keflings would be awesome! Except everything turns into a jumpled mess on my 46" screen with controller input, I can't imagine how much of a log jam Keflings would be on my 4" HTC Arrive.

Tyler, since you like bookkeeping so much, you can be my official research assistant. :D You and Meatwad also remain my official CAG loyal readers, while everyone else perpetually receives a frowny face.

SWEET! A smiley face AND a new title! :whee:

Also, this thread seems to be getting glithcy. I have the option to view Page 51 (I sort by 20 posts per page) but there's nothing there.

EDIT: Oh, the thread thinks there's an extra comment. "Showing results 1,001 to 1,002 of 1,002" Except there isn't a 1002nd post yet.

YES! :D

I will also continue to be! now if you also covered football I would be in line there too!

Baby steps! And yeah, would love to race against you if I'm ever in Washington. Will probably be in LA this June for E3, at least. :)

Well it was very well researched, and a good read. Game looks fun, but I'll be holding off on it for a DotW/Price Drop. Multiplayer sounds cool, I know a couple friends with Windows Phones but I don't think either of them would drop $5 on this either, so no MP for me.

And that multiplayer achievement is garbage. I have no problem with MP achievements, and if it was win 1 or 5 races in MP I might have tried talking my friends into it once I get it. But win 50 MP races is a crazy grind, I hate stupid achievements like that. /rant (sorry, stupid achievements are one of my biggest pet peeves.)

It's probably the beginning of the end, I'm sure we're gonna see devs cramming tons of worthless MP achievements into the games now. Nice while it lasted I guess....

Ya, the devs restructured or something. I'm thinking if I ever want this, I may want to grab it now. Plus, the demo felt pretty damn good.

Pac Man Kart Racing will be a debate if it ever hits $2.99. Controls didn't feel good at all.

Well, it's a decent price now, but I still don't think I'll be getting it. Based on the demo, it feels like every other third-rate kart racing game out there and the music is insanely annoying (but playing without sound is awkward). I think I'd be willing to give it a chance as a console game, but it simply doesn't work well for me on a dinky little touchscreen.
What do ya know, Tyler? Pac-Man Kart Rally now costs $2.99...
And the debate begins. I'm gonna try it with tilt off and steering by touch and see how it feels. I do want a kart racer and the characters are pretty cool.

Thanks for the update Paul, im sure I never would have noticed the price drop myself
The Harvest is DotW at $4.99. Opinions on The Harvest?
I was wondering the same thing. Can't bring myself to pay $4.99 for a game I may or may not like (I did pay that much form PvZ on release but I already had that game on PC so it was a no-brainer [pun intended]).

Button controls (with tilt off) work pretty well. I'm still confused about acceleration, I don't need to hold an acceleration button or anything do I?

No, you just need to worry about the brake button (rarely), jumping (kinda rarely), and the item button.

About the sound, Pac-Man Kart Rally actually has different songs for each separate world. So while all 3 Pac-Man tracks share that same way-too-short tune, the other worlds have different and less repetitive music. I'll take Namco to task for the sound in my review, but it's less of an issue than the demo makes it seem.

K, that's what I thought. In game instructions seemed to indicate that there was an acceleration button, or I possibly misunderstood them. Thanks.

As for the sound, I thought the song was catchy, but I guess I would hate it after a while. However, I almost always play my WP7 on silent, so definitely not a major deal to me.

I finally got my first Windows Phone yesterday and I'll definitely be watching this thread more now, and I'm gonna read through some of what's already here and on the wpcentral site to see what's all worth getting, so far I've just got a couple of the free things that they have on the store.

Some game called Feed Me Oil just popped up (literally, like within the last 30 seconds) on the online marketplace.

Good news? It's only 99 cents!!!!! I would love to start seeing new releases come out at 99 cents!!!! Time to demo this bad boy. I may be a CAG, but I'll buy anything at 99 cents, no point in waiting for a possible 33 or 50 cent discount.

http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/apps/5de64ff7-87ee-4095-ad12-085aaaa1b919

EDIT: Feed me oil is basically Enigmo, a little better and a nice hint system. Has 90 levels. Definitely not my favorite type of game, but for 99 cents I'm in. Also, apparently the iPhone version has a micro transaction hint based system so maybe this game does too, which would explain the cheap starting price.

EDIT2: Bought and played for about 30 minutes. Not too bad, controls MUCH better than Enigmo. Not noticing a microtransaction system with the hints either.

Welcome. If you're looking for Xbox Live titles, I'd recommend scanning the link below to see what's available. We've recently seen a lot of price drops down to $0.99, so I'd say demo a lot of those games and see if any of them are for you, most are pretty good.

Also, maybe demo The Harvest, today will be the last day it's on sale, but it's still $5. Pretty quality game though.

Finally, personal recommendations would be Plants vs Zombies, Farm Frenzy 2, Fruit Ninja, Gravity Guy, Hydro Thunder GO, ilomilo, IonBallEX, and Max & the Magic Marker.
Pocket God? $1.99?
Damn it, repeat sale! Good catch though. Not sure if I'd recommend Pocket God for $2. It's....ok.

Oh, it's a secret until... tomorrow-ish. Forgot to mention that.

Correction: May 23's release will be 99 cents. Don't have a price yet on May 16's release, geoDefense Swarm.

Also, I updated the OP and upcoming games list to be as accurate as possible. I wonder though: Do any of our regular readers actually check the front page?

I don't know about Pocket God for $2... It's entertaining, but it's not really what I would call a game. Still, it can be fun for about 5 minutes at a time, which counts for something, I suppose. I'll have to think about this one.

I'm all over Feed Me Oil, though. I liked Enigmo, so I've had my eye on this one since it was announced. Based on the demo, I'm not sure if it's necessarily better than Enigmo, but it does seem to have more variety so far. Will be purchasing very soon.

Thanks for the welcomes! I was focusing mainly on Xbox Live titles but I have gotten a couple free ones that aren't, as long as they are fun I'll play them! I'll get the demos for the games that you listed and try them out. I'll also be keeping up with the reviews that I see come up on here and with all of these games starting to hit 99 cents I'll probably buy quite a few of them, seems like I got into this at a good time!

Folks definitely seem to like The Harvest; I personally didn't find it very enjoyable at all. I will 100% second ilomilo, though. One of my favorite games ever. It's a lot better on the Xbox, but still great on the phone. And of course, Plants Vs. Zombies provides hours of mindless fun. I've played the hell out of that game on PC, Xbox 360, and DS and I plan on eventually doing it again on my phone.

Anyway...I too recently jumped on the bandwagon. I've had my Windows Phone for about a month now, I think, and I'm very pleased with it. The selection of games is lacking somewhat, but there are still some gems available. I know it sounds daunting, but I actually just went through the list on the first page in this thread and downloaded the demo of every single game (and wrote down which ones I liked and how much they cost). Found lots of goodies that way.

Oh, and be sure to check out the FREE Xbox Live games like Minesweeper, Wordament, and a few others. As far as free non-Live games go, I haven't played a whole lot, but I would recommend Call of Carlos, Incredible Circus, Monster Stack (1 and 2), and Zombeee.

EDIT: Ha! I just realized I made a PvZ pun!

I definitely refer to the previous DotW list that you maintain on there, I've used it several times, but not a lot of the other content. One option could be to wikify it if you're tired of maintaining it at the level you currently are now.

Also, EastX, are you still gonna reveal what May 23rd's 99 cent title is today on WPCentral?

EDIT: Also, found this quote from your GeoDefense Swarm preview interesting and funny. "It will also likely suffer from balance issues, but said issues didn’t keep its predecessor from winning many gamers’ hearts.". That's exactly how I feel too, the balance issues were so bad in the first one, I'm being very cautious about Swarm.
...I updated the OP and upcoming games list to be as accurate as possible. I wonder though: Do any of our regular readers actually check the front page?
I still check the front page from time to time. I don't have a windows phone myself but my wife does. When she wonders about a game she checks with me and I check with this thread. Keep up the good work!:D

I actually didn't even notice the nice list you have in the OP until yesterday, but I do like the future release schedule and past releases all in one place like that.

Glad the release this week is 99 cents. That is an instant buy for me at that price point. Also good to see the group of games drop to that price point in the past month even though I had already purchased most of them. It did make picking up the Harvest last week at the 'sale' price of 4.99 a bit difficult but based on what I had read I still bought it, but haven't had a chance to play it yet.

I wish they would go back and do some permanent or temporary price reductions on some of the older games. No reason Guitar Hero should still be $6.99 almost 2 years after release.

Harvest is alright. I wouldn't say it's spectacular or anything but it can be a good time killer. Hope we get some more rpgesque games.

As for games I'd recommend, aside from the free ones if course..ill list my top 10:

Angry Birds
Fruit Ninja
Full House Poker
Kinectimals
Lets Golf 2
Oregon Trail
Plants vs. Zombies
Sally's Salon
Sid Meirs Pirates
Uno

I also recommend ilomilo, Burn the Rope, Chickens Can't Fly, Guitar Hero 5, Monopoly, Parachute Panic, and Solitaire

I'm not tired of maintaining the OP and posts 2 and 3 of this thread. I just wanted to know if anyone's using them or aware of them. Glad some of you guys do look it over now and then. :) Besides, all three posts do need updating, which a Wikified first post wouldn't cover.

BTW, Microsoft has informed us that geoDefense Swarm will cost $2.99.
