Worst Final Fantasy Game?

ff8 was the worst for me, it took me so long to beat it, because i felt obliged to, not happy to. It was such a chore and a bore. I know hardcore FF people who gave up on the series after 8. 9 was a breeze, but entertaining nonetheless, some may call it a step backwards... but anything is a step forwards from 8.

I totally agree with ScrubKing, FF8 was to much B/S talking that didn't have anything to do with the story. OOOOH battle for 3 minutes talk for 30.
that's dumb. However, i think part 9 was the best.
I don't ever judge a game by graphics, it's all about game play. so no the graphics is not my excuse. I actually liked the story alot and til this day is my favorite FF game. The chibi-like characters were also a good change back when it came out.

At first, I thought FFX-2 would be better than FFX, all because of the job system. I know I was naive and that I didn't read up about what kind of job system there was, and man, did I get screwed over. I went out and bought this damned game, and was totally disappointed after I learned how the gameplay went. So yeah, FFX-2 has my vote.

FFVII was the first RPG I ever played, so I'm bound to biased towards it. It gets my vote as the greatest, I love the futuristic setting, but FFVIII went a little too far with it. FFXI was way overated, the story wasn't that great, and I didn't like the characters, even Vivi. Nothing else in a video game has made me cry like when Aeris died. I stared at the screen blankly while tears rolled down my face. The only game thats even come close to matching that kind of emotion is FFX, with the Tidus and Yuna scene. But I do agree that Tidus should has a voicebox implant, and Yuna talks like she needs a good drag of an asthma inhaler. And Auron is a god damned bad ass. Straight up. So FFVIII gets my vote as the worst.

x_2 is terrable. Singing a nd dancing. buh waste of 50 bucks! Tradin next! This game should be burned! Make a second game and didn't make it of vii what were they thinkin! VII ruled!

Well the worst is definitly Mystic Quest, why its not on the list I'll never know.

MQ was a bare bones RPG that's story was very Cliche, even by early 90's standards, not only that, but it was incredibly easy, with no challenge what-so-ever.

I'm surprised the Final Fantasy games for the old monochrome Gameboy weren't on the list...

Final Fantasy Adventure
Final Fantasy Legend
Final Fantasy Legend II
Final Fantasy Legend III

Mystic Quest was designed to be a RPG for newbies. It was one of the first that I recall playing (unless you count Zelda on NES which I do. If you don't, thats another argument for another time). Compared to other Final Fantasies it falls short, but taken for what it is, its not that bad.

i really, really, really hate ff7, but ff8 takes the cake, so to speak, when it comes to shitty final fantasy games.

Since the games on the list include the Japanese-only FF3, my guess is that we're talking about the Japanese games only. Mystic Quest was developed for America, and was released in Japan later. FFAdventure/Legend games had nothing to do with Final Fantasy in Japan, and did not have "Final Fantasy" in the title.

I think that's why those games weren't included. Or maybe it was just an oversight; whatever.

Anyway, my vote goes harshly towards FFX-2 for destroying the class system and completely killing the dignity of the series. My second runner-up was FF1, as I found that game very boring and frustrating. Why:
"Welcome to the cave, Light Warriors!"
"Oh thanks, I-"
"ENEMY casts SLEEP"
"(Player waits for everyone to die)"
.... whee!!

I doubt that this topic is JUST about the Japanese games because most people here play the english versions. I think 3 was thrown in because FFVI was called FFIII in the US.

if you didn't like 8's junction system you probably didn't understand it to well. after i figured it out it allowed my to give utimate cosumaztion of my guys. i guss some people like easy games were you don't have to use brain to level up your characters. 9 and 10 allowes for very little customization because in 10 your guys were along a set path and could not stray from that path untill very late in the game. 9 and 7 were kind of in the middle. games shouln't be judged so much on their storys because every body likes different things. i have palyed 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10-2, fft, ct, cc and i like 8 the best.

If that were the case, FF6 wouldn't be in the list, since there would be two choices for the same game.

FF1 = NES
FF2 = NES (JP)
FF3 = NES (JP)
FF4 = SNES (aka FF2 in America)
FF5 = SNES (JP)
FF6 = SNES (aka FF3 in America)

The rest everyone knows.

i am going to have to say that the final fantasys on the origional Game Boy are the worst. I have just started to play VIII and IX again, and i used to hate those 2 games, but now love them.

Someone please correct cause I know this can't be right. But back in the day (NES/GB Days ~ Circa 1989 or so) I know, in fact I remember letting these game(s) just slide by me because they did not say "Squaresoft" they said "Sunsoft". And thought these were not true Square endorsed/developed final Fantasy games. BTW, this was before they were re-released later w/ square name on them (hence the legend and adventure attached to the name).

FF:CC (final fantasy crystal chronicals) should be on this poll, so I can vote it as being the worst, I hate that game so much.

FFIX. Maybe it was just because it was such a dissapointment after the masterpiece that was FFVIII. Looking at the results of the poll, many ovbiously disagree with me, but whatever. FFIX didn't improve on anything that FFVIII did at all, in many regards it even took a step back. And... that tail... :whistle2:\

FFX. I'd like the 20+ hrs. I put into this game hoping it would get better back and put into something decent. Out of FFs 7-10, this was was the disappointment. I enjoyed all the others.

FF1 - god this game was boring as hell.

And the lone person who voted FF6 needs to go jump off of the Empire State Building.

FF4=the bane of my existence
FF5=average
FF6=awesome
FF7=just as good if not better
FF8=fun at first. then it gets really boring. and the battle system sucked.
FFTactics=meh... I hope it gets better
Vagrant Story= hey, it's the same world as tactics and FFXII. so it belongs here. it's looking good.

And those are all the FF's I've played. I just got FFX from Circuit City though.

And my favorite RPG of all time is Chrono Trigger. Chrono Cross had a story that was explained in the last 2 minutes before the boss battle by 3 characters and had too many characters.

FF2 and 3 were garbage. FF10 shouldn't be paired with x-2. Thats like putting mario and dr.mario together. FF10 was my favorite

I searched every post before writting this in hopes that someone else out there remembers how bad mystic quest was. I applaud you starmask. That game was a piece of sh*t. You could only follow a certain path like in mario 3 but worse, much worse. I really think that was the quickest I ever beat a game. I was pissed. Oh yeah, FFII and FFIII do not belong in the same category. FFII was legend, and sits atop the snes library with super metroid (Joy!)

I would say FF 1, but I'll give Square slack since it was their first.

Personally, Square needs to make a FF with the gameplay/story of 6 and the cutscenes/graphics of 10. If 12 is anything like that... damn!

Give me more action and save the sappy drama for your momma. (ie: 8 and even 10)

Aww, man... I joined this site just to comment on this...

Anyway, before I give my opinion, I want you to know some things. First of all, I own and have beaten almost every game made by square. I enjoy them all, simply for the diversity and story each game has to offer. One thing that is consistant in most games in the Final Fantasy (or in square games in general) is the storyline. They all made me sad, and a few made me cry.

First off, the ones I didn't like. Of course, I'd rather play the games I didn't like over most games anyday.

(I'm kind both ways on this one, so be nice...) Final Fantasy 8 - The story was great. Theres only one problem with this game... and thats the GF's. The system made you put waaaay too much faith into them, and most of the hard bosses were beat in a few shots by them. Too bad some of the bosses are impossible to kill with GF's alone, and that f'ed me over so much I actually had to restart the game. Fantastic.

Final Fantasy 9 - The story was decent, and so were the graphics. But it wasn't that fun to play, and half the time I spent figuring out what to do. Mostly because I refuse (in general anyway) to look at a walkthrough for a Final Fantasy game until I'm sure I've exorcized every way.

Final Fantasy X-2 - Oh my god. I don't know where to start with this one. It is annoying (Gullwings go!), too whore-ish, and too gay (well, it made me feel gay playing it...) for me to play. But the battle system and the fact that you could get different classes was great. The story was probably the worst out of every Square game (i.e. OH EM GEE I THINK ITS TIDUS!!). Even then, the story was amazing compared to other games, and the diversity this game had to offer was great. Though 3 playable main characters isn't exactly my idea of fun either. I beat it though, just because I wanted to see the ending. What a disgrace there. "Higher!!"

(This isn't on the list, but whatever, I have to rant!) Final Fantasy XI- What a sad exuse for the Final Fantasy name. It's one of the worst MMO's I've ever played. I love the PlayOnline thing tho, and I think it's the only reason I've payed for 2 months (plus the free month, so I've played this game 3 months...)

Oh, and just so everybody knows, I hate the direction Final Fantasy is going. Stop pushing realtime battles!! I hate them!! Do something like Grandia II if you must, but I love turn-based!

P.S. I have played the original Final Fantasy games in Japanese (actually, I'll probably end up buying a Famicom and importing them eventually...) and I don't like 1 and 2. I just don't. They don't have the epic story there, even if they are fun.

Final Fantasy has given me high requirements to what I expect in a game, and very few non-square games satisfy them very well anymore.

Anyway, that's my rant.

FF2. The only one I haven't beaten, but I'm about halfway through and while I don't think it's bad, it's definitely the weakest. The only FF I haven't played is FFXI, because it's online only.

Final Fantasy X.

Seriously, we went from FF4 and FF6 stories about epic stuff, to a story about a sports hero who goes on a linear adventure with his stupid friends, including one who throws a freakin sports ball for an attack. Come on.

FF7 was good, FF8 was not-so-good, and FF9 was pointless. FFX2 was a joke.

Nothing will ever touch FF4 anf FF6 (2 and 3) on the SNES in my eyes. Best stories and music.

Even though they have FF branded on, they are either Mana or SaGa games so they should not be included.

That's too bad... One of the MMO's in which strategy & team work actually work IMHO, and you think it's bad... Probably why I hate WOW since it's a grindfest to actually get somewhere. That and the fact it gets old... quick.

Final Fantasy 2 is the only correct answer. Why you grouped it with the superb Final Fantasy 3 that introduced the job system the series has used time and time again is beyond me.

And the game boy Legend games are amazing. They're SaGa games, yes, but I played the heck out of them back then, as they were awesome for portable RPGs.

Final Fantasy 8.

Yes, FF2 is worse than it but I was expecting it. I had already heard FF2 was bad and I had braced for the impact. FF8 was like being knocked out from behind and gang raped.

if this was a most disappointing thread you'd be right, but it's worst. Not even the music is redeemable about FF2. FF8 at least had a quality soundtrack. Better than many others in the series.

And X-2 is worthy just for being silly and having the best active battle system of the entire series, because it was fast and no bullshit.

of the ones i've played X-2 is the worst. i haven't played 1,2,3

the thing that bugged me the most about IX was you couldn't buy ethers. wtf.

I am suprised so many people disliked IX.

It had a fun/simple job system, a great chocobo minigame, fun bosses and a nice exploration system (no mindless X pushing). The atmosphere in that game was nearly flawless.
Wow, this sure takes me back to the good ole days of CAG :cry:
even ddf seemed civilized compared to some of today's mutant breed fanboys. Man, things were peaceful before the next gen kicked in. :roll: :lol:

I personally don't know, but I've heard it numerous times that VIII was the worst story wise with II being the worst gameplay mechanic wise.

yeah the junction and draw stuff was a bad idea. I do think that the game gets a bad rap for following in FFVII's wake. Any game that was made after that behemoth was likely to disappoint many newcomers to the series.

And the Crotch is right. Disliking VII does not make you a badass and does not equal breaking the rules. All it means is you have no soul. ;) Actually that's only true if you hate FFIX.
