CAGiversary!
Well, its Tues. Dec 14, and a new comics day is upon us (tomorrow). Please use this thread to discuss anything and all things comics.

Ive already mentioned my preferences on various parts of this site, and i'll probably repeat them here, but i will start on this very obvious yet loaded question:

What do you think of Identity Crisis?

Like it? Hate it? Wont know until you've read #7(which is very good BTW)?

I used to collect Marvel when I was younger. I also like Cerebus the Ardvark and some of the Dark Horse comics.

I never bought any DC comics though.

My collection may be worth alot of money because its been over 15 years ago since I quit.

EDIT: How much are comic books now a days? Also, do they still sell the Fabulous Freak Brothers? (Underground comic)? Its been awhile since I've walked into a comic book store.

Cerebus finnaly ended within the last year....that thing would just not stop going. Bone ended too (another great book)

So far I like Identity Crisis, but I will reserve judgement based on tomorrow's last issue. I hope that there is a huge swerve in the story. I have a feeling from the only page previewed, we are in for one.

I have not bought a comic in years and have a few questions. Did DC ever bring back the Barry Allen Flash or is it the Wally West Flash still? And do they still do the Legion of Super Heroes comics?

Still the Wally West Flash, but Barry Allen has made a few cameos here and there. LOSH is getting a fresh start soon under Mark Waid. Should be a great read!

I only buy Marvel's Ultimate Spider-man - It's what got me back into comics. I used to buy all of the Ultimate line but they started to lack in quality (especially ultimate x-men when Bendis jumped on board). I might give others a try but for the past 5-6 years its mainly been ultimate (insert title here).

How did they bring Barry Allen back to life, he was my favorite Super Hero, and it pissed me off when DC killed him off in the orginal Crisis on Infinite Earths series.

Basically, he drops in every once in a while due to his time travel exploits while he was alive. A more knowledgable Flash fan can probably explain it better. You might want to try the new stuff. Geoff Johns really has a handle of Wally West while still being respectful of the Flash's history.

Love comics, been reading them for 15 years or so now pretty fanatically.

I had high hopes for Identity Crisis, up until Boomerang died. I've read the spoiler for who is behind it, and I'm feeling generally disappointed by it.

I read both DC and Marvel, and don't consider myself a fanboy for either. A great writer can make any title golden. That said, I've often admired DCs fearlessness with some of their heroes: namely the switching of who wears the Green Lantern or Flash mantle. It's a brave bit of storytelling, to change a character like that, and I feel that DC does it a bit better than Marvel (though Marvel does do it once in a while, I feel that the character changes in Marvel always are temporary: i.e. Thors many incarnations, the many times Cap America has renamed himself only to come back to the same colors again and again.)

And with the reveal of who the villain is in IC, I feel it's a cop out. A failure to really shake things up again, though the actions of the Big Bad will doubtlessly shake things up.

To sum up: Grant Morisson, Alan Moore, Bendis, Brubaker, Brian K Vaughn = Good

Mark Millar, Chuck Austen's Xmen, new Chris Claremont = Suck

BTW, if you've seen the 2-page IC preview, the last frame on page 2 IS covered up for the preview. There is an actual comic frame in the actual book.

If it wasnt for these damn customers, i'd get some more reading done, seeing as im not even sure what else is out tommorow

Identity Crisis got me back into reading comics over the Summer. I still haven't had the chance to read 6 but I'll pick it up along with 7 tomorrow.

As far as comics in general I'm more into DC, I've been following Nightwing, Superman, Teen Titans, Outsiders, GL: Rebirth. Is anyone else glad they killed off 'you know who' in the War Games cross over?

I have a crap load of high dollar comics around here some where. I have hologram spidey comics hologram x-men comics. I need to see what I could get out of them!

I'm looking forward to IC but holding judgement till it comes out. So far, I'm torn. Half of me feels caught up in the excitement I felt in Batman: Hush in the whodunnit? vein. The other half is jaded that it won't hold up to Hush-Level coolness. So I hesitate to say I like/hate it

All of this teaches an important lesson. If some guy calling himself Batman asks for your help...run like hell

Hush dissapointed me due to the "from left field" nature of the bad guy. With IC, they do give you plenty of hints. It works. Its not COMPLETELY shocking, but a great read anyways.

But I think that's the point. You'd never suspect who it was since he WAS left field. He was a joke (excuse the incorrect pun). No one took him seriously. Not Batman, not even his fellow villains. It wasn't until Hush gave him his one big break that everyone was like, who? this guy? No way! I'm reserving judgement since although they give hints, I'm sure they're gonna do the same thing. Throw someone in from the 'left field'. Someone totally unexpected.

I can just tell him to call America's Most Wanted

It was Batman cause he's upset he has no powers.

it's so unfair that u're able to read IC 7 before the rest of us since you work in a comic shop :( lucky bastich! so how was it? W/o giving details, was #7 good?

Yes, i liked it. Everything wraps up well. Something "feels" different when it ends..which was exactly what this was supposed to do. A lot of things are affected by this, and not all of them are aparent right now (unless you always look through Previews or "know people")

So did the ending surprise you? Or did the hints give it away? I'm hoping it's somewhat Hush-like

You can figure out the killer by issue six. This person has at least appeared in the comic (unlike The Riddler in Hush...who seems to be a metrosexual now...)

...WTF...if you read Hush you MUST read Batman Gotham Knights...it will seriously f'up any ideas you've had in your head...for quite some time...

I've been reading GK on and off for some time. Is this a post-War Games issue?

(runs and looks) it is POST-wargames. Its an Alfred centered story. Very cool. Its just 3/4th through...there's a twist...that goes all the way back to...well, before Hush

Ive been so lax with my comics lately, usually I just go into the comic store in town and read whatever I need to in the store, the guy knows me so its cool and I just sit down and read for about an hour, I treat the books well.....anways lately I havent been going, I need to start getting back into the groove.

Ok...new release day has come and gone. Any opinions? Thoughts on IC? Gotham Knights?

Since i read most everything yesterday, i did my usual selling, but was also told to read the Starman books. Any opions from you guys?

damn.. forum threads like this make me wish i still got my subscriptions at a local shop. after the comic shop i worked at shut down, i refused to go to the other shop (due to the general punkbitchness of its employees), and i started getting my stuff by mail..

identity crisis though has been a real good read this summer... astonishing x-men too. do any of you guys read avengers?

ahhh should have had this topic awhile ago
i spend 200 a month on new comics from my subscription not including the conventions and other avenues i purchase from. this is one topic i know alooottt about.

i used to have my subscription through my local store with 10% off but
for the last year i have been using www.gmart.com which gives free shipping with over $80 spent every month and an average of around 35% off all my comics. It is automatically taken from my Visa every month. They package them perfect and are timely when sending. My local store i had a sub with for over 10 years used to not pull vital issues on my list and when i would ask they would say ooo i guess we missed it. Imagine the one week when i was there on wed and they didnt pull my first print of 30 days of night #1 and i was lucky to grab the only copy on the wall and it was on my list for months previous. That comic lists for over 100 in wizard. So my point is, anyone have a better sub than mine?

i use comicbooksetc.com, but i don't subscribe as much as you... at least not anymore. if comics were cheaper, i'd read more, but unfortunately i'm not much into the collectibility of comics anymore, so i'm happy with just reading them (sometimes for free at the bookstore).

regarding the errors in sub pulls... it happens. it really really sucks, but it happens. i did sub pulls for 70 people by myself for 2 years, and i've had a small handful of errors. it's just too hard, especially when your "sophisticated" system of pulling involves a fill-in-the-bubble sheet of paper in a thick binder. it's rarely happened that i miss a pull, but what did happen more often was our store just not receiving enough or ALL of a certain title. noteworthy stuff should be remembered though... good thing you didn't miss 30 days of night.

and jesus, 200 a month for sub titles? what, is that like roughly 100 titles per month?

i just need to get around to checking locally for IC 7. the only thing that sucks is the closest shop opens at noon and i am normally asleep by then (work 3rds) and don't wake up in time to go there and be back to work on time. its a half hour drive both ways to the closest comic shop to me =|

When i do the pulls each wed, i use computer print outs (post-its for specific 1 shots/covers) to get the job done...but we all know how good computers are. I've had a total of 3 screw ups that were my fault, all of which ive rectified the situation (went and found one myself, lucky 2nd printing). as of right now i have about 100 subs, some for 1 comic, others for 70 and up.

I myself collect about 20 titles for myself...but i read MANY more. I call it research :)

So IC 7 didn't suck. But I still think the identity of the villain (not giving any spoilers here) is a bit lame.

How much do you want to bet that the villain resurfaces in a few years wearing a cheesy costume with a lame codename?

And tell me, besides the death of Elongated man's wife, Sue, and the deaths of Robin's dad and Capt. Boomerang, what really changed in IC? Batman and Supes haven't changed, and seemed sullied after this.

Wally West is unnerved, but still. What changed? What was the point?

You Have lex's suit, Brain Washing, and trust issues all left to ponder/work out. Lex's suit will be in an upcomming teen titans issue, so thats taken care of, but the rest will be slowly drawn out. Also, i belive some of the books plot points will "come out" later, as certain things unravel (Green Lantern:Rebirth)

And then we have Crisis 2 aka Countdown to deal with in a few months.

Still, I feel that Big Events like this should have a more lasting effect on the continuity. Like Inferno, back in the day at Marvel, wherein Storm got repowered, a bunch of heroes got killed, etc. Stuff happened; things changed.

Contrast that with DC One Million, where things happened; but then everything was the same.

I'm still up in the air about IC. I think that Jack Drake's death and the reintroduction of the Calculator may be the biggest things to roll out of it.

New Question: What are the best written monthly comics around right now?

My votes will go for: Astonishing Xmen; Teen Titans; Daredevil; Powers; and Y, the Last Man.

well they were doing it to me for at least 1-2 titles a week and almost always on hot titles. had a sub there for over 10 years and i know i was there #1 customer since i would just walk in and go straight to the back room where they held larger subs. My sub would be in a long box and i would go through making sure they pulled the right stuff and if it wasn't missing titles from past weeks that now i could not get it was titles that arent even on my list thrown into the box. I hate not checking out whats on the shelf every week to find hidden gems that sounded mediocre in previews but looks good as hell in person. but i dont miss driving to the store. as a matter of fact i got a large shipment today in the mail. soo easy takes 20 min once a month to make my list at www.gmart.com. its not 100 titles a month but its close there are alot of 4.95 and up titles.

I enjoyed IC #7 but it still felt like something was...missing? I dunno, great read nonetheless. Quick question, I want to follow up on Robin and the effects that Stephs and Jacks deaths have on him, so should I start reading Robin or just keep reading Teen Titans?

Agent X was one of the most enjoyable books i ever read...when Simone was doing it. The middle issues were bleh

Agent X and last 19 issues of deadpool were great.
So was the first 32 issues of DP. How do guys like the Wolverine: hydra assassin thing? it seems like a rehash of Wolvie as Death but still ok.

With all of the "Life altering" comics out there, its nice to find a comic that is simply "hunt/kill", which Wolverine is doing quite nicely

this is just straight up comics, and that's what i like. good stories, not too many gimmicks (though the crossover thing is kind of nearing gimmicky). not to mention romita does some of the most beautiful comic book art right now. he's like a modern day kirby.

The thing that gets to me as a retailer right now are these damn 2nd, 3rd, 4th cover/printings...ARGH! I'll admit i pick up a few too many Turner covers and that i do get at least the 2 regular Street Fighter covers...but man, do i need another Wolverine #20 with Wolvy wearing an eyepatch?
