WShakSpear's Comic Topic (DC, Marvel, Ati...whatever you like)
The thing that gets to me as a retailer right now are these damn 2nd, 3rd, 4th cover/printings...ARGH! I'll admit i pick up a few too many Turner covers and that i do get at least the 2 regular Street Fighter covers...but man, do i need another Wolverine #20 with Wolvy wearing an eyepatch?
i've never been a cover whore... but with the street fighter series, i get every cover for it, including those damn foils.

oh yeah, and i got this crap:

Ive got the first 6 foils, and then my store stopped getting them...i figured it was a small note from god to at least save some cash.

I picked up

EX MACHINA #7 - One of the two best comics on the market, and this issue was amazing.

IDENTITY CRISIS #6- Great build up

IDENTITY CRISIS #7 - Only to be brought down. Good over all, but the killer's motives were just silly.

PLASTIC MAN #13 - Plastic Man continues to be pretty funny throughtout the months.

MADROX #4 - The plot thickens

SPIDER-MAN INDIA #2 - Good stuff, great artwork, series is picking up.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #70- One of the worst issues of the entire series. What was Bendis trying to go for...I don't know.

So is this the issue w/ Carnage and Gwen Stacy? Or is already past that? I've only been giving a passing glance at the U. Spidey title lately so I don't know what's the current storyline.

This is after that, The Carnage arc ended with #65 (Collected in trade#11). Bendis is doing a set of light-hearted two parters to cushion the blow of the whole Carnage/Gwen thing.

First two parter (66-67) was about Wolverine and Peter switching bodies.
Second (68-69) involved teenage high school stuff with Human Torch.
Third (70-71) involves Dr. Strange...which I was looking forward to...but it sucked.

Ok, the crack is starting to wear off. Get Bendis some more good drugs so he can write normally again!!

I don't forsee Bendis writing normally in the near future.

MJ: Really?
Peter:Really.
MJ:Oh.
P:Oh?
MJ:Yeah...
P:What?
MJ:Oh nothing...
P:Ok.
MJ:Ok?
P:Yeah.

Someone must've slipped him some acid cuz he's waaaaaaaaaaaaay trippin'. On an unrelated note, for those who've read one of the recent Wizards, did anyone notice that Jeph Loeb came off like a big prick? Looked like a nice guy to me but from what I remember reading, he seemed all high and mighty and full of himself when they were discussing the DC/Marvel difference.
He and Bendis were going at it!
I saw! But it seemed like Bendis' argument was about character driven stories (which I kinda agree with) while Loeb was all about action and 2 page collage shots. And Bendis even said that DC would also kick Marvel's ass if they had more character driven stories. Personally, I'd like a healthy sampling of both. Half story driven stuff and half world spanning action.

Since my friend was going to the store to pick up the Astonishing X-Men trade, I picked up a few things myself.

I'd heard good things about the current Daredevil arc, and yeah it's damn good. Written by Bendis, but still good. #66-68 is what I got. Artwork is what got me interested. Black and white for pre-Daredevil times, old school four-color style for Daredevil's early days, and regular for modern times.

I also picked up Plastic Man #4, since I'm picking up some back issues. Funny first arc.
Daredevil has been great as of late...as long as you skip the 5 David Mack issues right in the middle
100% agree.

Maleev's art is just phenomenal. It seems to work very well with the pulpy stories that Bendis is telling.

I'm fairly happy... G.I. Joe is starting to get back to the "domestic" stuff that they had gotten away from.

I always found the Springfield arcs and that stuff interesting, where Cobra works it's way into the American heartland through political, rather than military means. The recent books have been taking them back to that point, and thanks to a couple of other plot twist, taking the Joe team back to a small elite force with a small active roster and some reserve "specialists"... taking it away from they monster they had build it up to be...glutted with tons of characters they introduced and used once, and adding a bunch of faceless greenshirts that became as disposable as thier name implied.

Of course, the sooner they get rid of Wraith, or at least make him interesting, the happier I'll be.

Ohh.. we need to make some overpowered guy so that we can have him keep up with the ninjas (SE and SS) that were built up to god-like levels in dying days of the old comics and early in our run.

I finished the Astonishing trade last night. I haven't really read X-Men before, except a few of the current issues of Austen's run, so this was pretty good. Great artwork.

Oooh, Austen's run is so extremely bad. Horrendous steaming pile of crap bad.

I really dug Grant Morisson's X-men run, that was great stuff. Though Whedon's current run on Astonishing is also marvelous.

I've been getting back into Green Lantern ever since they have been bringing Hal back in GL: Rebirth.

Identity Crisis was just amazing.

Gah! Don't say anything! I still haven't read it!

Speaking o fcomics, I've been re-reading a lot of my older comics. Stuff like Star Wars: Dark Empire 1/2/Empire's End and Leviathan and Crimson Empire 1/2. Also re-read Watchmen/Batman: dark Knight Returns. Amazingly they still hold up to today. Man the older Star Wars comics were awesome. Can't stand the new Star Wars Empires (I believe that's what it's called, the one with the alternate star wars universe.)

Actually, Empires is just stories from the Imperial viewpoint. Republic is the Rebel Alliance. The alternate universe stuff is just same titles as the movies:

Star Wars: A New Hope
Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars: Return of the Jedi

Nope, I'm sure of it that it was something like Empires, but I know the comics you are talking about.

I think it was Star Wars: (something starting with an O). Oh well. Anyway, I've been really enjoying right now Batman versus Predator.

Actually, since you mentioned it, I dug around my collection and we're both kinda correct. It's not Star Wars but Star Wars: Infinites .

I stopped keeping track around the time 100 Bullets came out and the Garth Ennis Punisher came out. I guess around 1999? What have I missed?

That's exactly it. I read a couple at my comic book store to see if it was any good and just couldn't stand it at all. I knew it was something like I or E or one of those sounds.

Wow this thread's bringing back a lot of good memories. I think I will also read some oTimothy Zahn Mara Jade now.

In no particular order:

Batman: Hush, Batman/Superman, Wanted (although Millar seems to have given up writing it since it's been crap lately), Identity Crisis, Ultimate Spiderman, Exiles, Daredevil, Young Justice becoming the new Teen Titans, Impulse aka Kid Flash, Astonishing Xmen, last 3 Avengers issue (before being relaunched) and a whole slew more since I got lazy typing.

Really? I liked the Infinites series. The art wasn't the best however... but then again very few Star Wars comics have good art.

What's on everyone's shopping cart for 12/22?

Delivery List

I have a box at my store in college, so I won't be buying my main titles while at home...but Catwoman: When in Rome is the only one that's on it for this week. About damn time issue 3 shipped!

I might want to pick up V for Vendetta and Fables: Animal Farm though...any opinions on these?

V for Vendetta? I remember reading that YEARS ago. I still have the original comics somewhere in my basement. That was a pretty good series. Not as good as Watchmen but still quite enjoyable.

I just picked up Green Lantern: Rebirth #3 and Wolverine #23.

JINGLE BELLE #2 $2.99
CATWOMAN WHEN IN ROME #3
SPACE GHOST #2
TEEN TITANS GO #14
THE NORM MAGAZINE #6

Thats what im picking up today, there are a few others i'll just read though...and im picking up the Invader Zim AF set :)

Ah, tell me how Catwoman is! I went to Borders today in hopes of picking something up. Narrowed it down to "Fables: Animal Farm" and "Spider-Man: Blue" But the lines were DAMN long, so I got nothing.

Fables is damn good. I've read the trades and it's quite a clever take on how the Fable characters are actually real and living in the modern world. Spiderman: Blue is a good choice as well. In this case, I'd toss a coin since I like them both.

That Amazing Spiderman Collection on DVD is taking up so much reading time... so far, I've read the first 5-6 issues, so there is only about 495 issues to go.

I've been staring at that box all season.. i THINK i want it...but then again the missing issues (from other series) will bug me to the point i will hunt them down..and thats bad $$$ wise.

I've already told myself that I'm not going to be chasing down copies of "Spectacular" and "Web of", because if I do, there will be no money left for games, gas, women or alcohol.

I figured, heck, there is no way in hell I'm going to get even one of the early spiderman issues for $40.

Of couse, now it has me considering if I want to buy the box that has the first ten issue of Iron Man, Xmen, etc.

FYI, we carry each hero sperately. So if you just like hulk, you can buy just his CD they are 4.99...but if you dont want everything in the bigger box, it can work out a bit cheaper

Yeah, I've seen those...
I'm just wondering if I hold off if they'll throw a couple other of the franchise series into a box set like spiderman...
I'd be all over an Uncanny Xmen collection (even though I know I'd get pissed off about the multiple story lines that bleed over into things like X-Factor.)

I would love a complete Daredevil. Theres quite a bit of crap in there...but ive always been interested in that character. Im enjoying the essentials at the moment, but id like color...and not the overpriced Masterworks.

For Xmas, I got what I asked for, haha. V for Vendetta and Fables: Animal Farm.

Picked up the third 100 Bullets trade, "Hang Up on the Hang Low" which was the best trade so far.

And I also got the remaining two Fables trades, because it's that damn good.

Now my favorite three books on the market are Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina and Fables.

Can someone recommend me a good reliable site to pick up some trades? I want to get a few for me and also my bro's upcoming bday. I was thinking of just getting them off Amazon, but maybe one of you guys know a better site. Thanks.

I've heard good things about milehighcomics, and here is a list of a bunch of places. Not sure about them, but it's from Knightmare6 of Gfaqs comic book FAQ on his site.

Here

Even with the holidays, i think were getting comics in today (for tommorow) its MUCH easier putting comics out when there's no one in the store...and it makes it easier to read anything that looks interesting..

If anything, im going to start reading the Starman (DC) trades. It was recommended by one of my customers. anyone else ever give these a read?

What's on your cart for tomorrow?

Comics List for 12/29

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #515
STRANGE #3
ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR #14
WHAT IF AUNT MAY HAD DIED INSTEAD OF UNCLE BEN (maybe)

The first three are in my box, so I won't be getting them until I return to college.

Today I picked up "Superman: Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow" and Plastic Man #5 and 6.

Also a few days ago, due to a friend working at BN, I got 30% off all purchases, so I picked up the remaining Fables trades and the thiird 100 Bullets trade. Fables is one of the best comics on the market!
