WShakSpear's Comic Topic (DC, Marvel, Ati...whatever you like)

I read most of the what if's last night. Neat, but weird. I liked the x-men one. The only other titles that really stood out this week were the Batman, Superman, and Superman/Batman books. i apparently really need to read strange though...

From what I heard on other websites, the "Enemy of the State" and "Agent of Shield" storylines that they're going to have for Wolverine sound pretty neat.

Wolverine has been kicking ass lately. They made him a member of the Hand, and is going crazy on just about every marvel good guy. fun! :)

Just wait until he kills one of the Xmen... which is going to happen.
Then, watch what he does after he comes out of the mind control...

Ah, true

Oh, by the way I forgot, here's a link to some previews of Beckett Comics. Check out "The Ballad of Sleeping Beauty," the entire first issue is available to read. They're onto issue #5 and it's only $1.99 each.

Beckett Comics Previews

This thread...will...survive!

I picked up Runaways Vol. 2, and the first TPB of The Walking Dead, which is now on my top 4 titles on the market. This is damn good!

Hmmmm...I was considering subscribing to one of the X-men comics again, since it's been forever since I've read them. However, in that time, there's about a billion of them now. I have no clue which of them are good. So I come here. Which of the X-men comics would be worth subscribing to. Only help I can offer is that for the most part, I like the more core group. I'll extend that out a bit, but none of the stupid groups that surround the X-men (X-Factor, etc).
I just found the Astonishing X-men trade i bought 2 weeks ago... Maybe i should read it? :)
Read the Astonishing Trade.

Get the Astonishing Trade.

Astonishing was freakin great. Surprisingly good actually. It felt a bit disjointed at times, but otherwise great.

Surprising thing though, i started watching Toy Story earlier, and found out Joss Whedon was one of the script writers.

Astonishing has really gotten me back into enjoying the X-Men. Its really too bad that the other X-Men titles aren't as good though. Joss Whedon is just a really good writer. The mix of humor and drama (just like his TV shows) just feels right and makes it a blast to read.

The other X-men titles are just ok, Uncanny has it's moments, Plain X-men art is so good. But its not Astonishing.

Pretty much the same way I feel. The Exiles (while not an X-Men book exactly, it is related) used to be really good but it has been declining lately.

I've read the first Alias TPB, Avengers "Disassembled" and the first New Avengers. So far, I am convinced that Bendis is an over-rated hack. Is there anything out there that will convince me otherwise?

If you didnt like Alias, i dont know what to tell you. Disassembled and "New" arent everyones cup of tea, but Alias was well written and didnt use the stars of Marvel

I started reading "Superman: Secret Identity" and it's really good. I don't think I'll buy it right now, just will keep reading it at Barnes and Noble. Cheapness...Ahoy!

Argh...this will be my first day back at work since last thursday. At least i get to read all the new stuff tonight. I just dont feel like dealing with people...co-workers or customers...

Frank Miller will be writting a Jim Lee drawn Batman Book.
Dreamwave Closes up shop.
Will Eisner Dies...

It's been a busy few days comic news wise.

Oh, and they use the Sentry VERy well in New Avengers #2

Does that mean Transformers dies, or did some other company pick it up?

As of right now...no one knows. It SHOULD be picked up one way or the other, but not everything has been discussed yet

New Avengers #2 is a lot tighter than #1. Things happen, people get the crap kicked out of them, and Sentinel finally appears.

The series is ramping up. I have high hopes for it.

Sentry :)

The book was worth admission just for his bit at the end...holy crap that was neat...

I think New Avengers will be one of the few, long, ongoing series that i will stick with for the forseeable future. I've always wanted to like Avengers, and now i do :

Now IMO, this is GREAT news. Spacy freakin rocks...

From Newsarama:

And it’s official – Lois and Lex have been cast for Bryan Singer’s Superman. As had been rumored for weeks, The Hollywood Reporter today confirmed that Kate Bosworth will play Lois Lane, while Kevin Spacey will play Lex Luthor (Bosworth is in final negotiations with the studio in regards to the role).

According to the trade, the casting of Bosworth came about after a “chemistry test” between Bosworth and Brandon Routh, who plays Superman/Clark Kent. THR reports that Bosworth beat out Claire Danes, Linda Cardellini and Michelle Monaghan.

Bosworth and Spacey are currently appearing together in Beyond the Sea as Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin, respectively.

In playing Lois Lane, Bosworth joins a fairly exclusive sorority of actresses who’ve portrayed the character over the years in film and television, beginning with Noel Neill who played the reporter in the Kirk Alyn serials and The Adventures of Superman (sharing the role with Phyllis Coats, who held the role for one season). Margot Kidder was the next actress to play Lois, in the Superman movies starring Christopher Reeve, with Teri Hatcher playing her in the television series, Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Most recently Erica Durance who recently appeared as Lois on Smallville.

Likewise, Spacey joins the likes of Gene Hackman (Superman movies), Scott Wells, Sherman Howard (both for the Superboy television series), John Shea (Lois & Clark), and Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville) as actors who have played Superman’s nemesis over the years in film and television.

Teasing the film a little more, Singer said that the writing team for Superman has opted to walk a line between Smallville and the original movie by Richard Donner, also strongly hinting (or even confirming) that the movie will feature Superman returning to earth after a prolonged absence.

Singer told Variety: "It's a little like X-Men, where the mutants existed when the movie began," Singer said. "It's not an origin story; I didn't want to remake what Richard Donner did so well in the original, and didn't want to tread on the great work they're doing on Smallville. He's already part of the culture; he has left the planet. This is the story of his return."

Filming on Superman/Superman Returns is slated to begin in March.

I broke down and picked it up today (along with Astonishing X-Men TPC vol1) I must say it is very good, although why did they have to do that to spidey, he deserves better, but its cool to see purple man, a fan from back in the old days.

and the Superman news seems good so far but I was really pulling for Linda Cardellini as Lois

New Avengers has been great. I'll definitely pick it up every month. Which I can;t say about too many other series. Any recommendations?

And does anyone know a good place online to buy comic book related posters? Ebay is way too expensive. But I'd like some Alex Ross posters, and that Batman poster that Jim Lee did. Did everyone see the cover that the two of them did for DC's Countdown comic? It looks amazing. Can't wait for that one.

Jinkies! Thanks for having me do that google image search :) I honestly didnt have anyone in mind for lois, so im still happy. Kevin Spacy was a VERY cool surprise.

We have both of those oversized Jim Lee poster here. Good and Evil. I just want a poster of the Joker wearing the "I killed Jason Todd and all i got was this lousy shirt" shirt :)

As far as constant pick-ups...She-Hulk, PVP, Liberty Meadows, Y-The Last man, Goon, The Walking Dead. There are a few others, but im quite sleepy. A new book im probably going to start picking up is Legion of Superheroes. Very well done.

As for online and those posters...do a froogle search, and click "art" on the side. a few places have them for reasonable prices (they have an MSRP of 24.99, FYI)

what you never heard of www.imdb.com :D , also i was very impressed with Whedon's X-men better than I thought it would be.

I haven't read Incredible Hulk since Peter David left. I picked up the newest issue last week because he started writing it again. Very good. Nice last panel.

I might stop by my comic book store tomorrow, I just don't know what to get. I was thinking about possibly picking up either Darkness/Superman or X-23 #1. Any opinions?
Don't forget the The Ultimates #2
I decided not to pick up Ultimates Vol. 2. I read issues 1-5 of Vol. 1 and wasn't really impressed. So I didn't think my opinion would change with Ultimates 2.

The book got much better after that.

I'm a huge Street Fighter fan. But I don't know if I would shell out $35 for the book. I'll have to check it out.

But would you know when the Panoramic Street Fighter Poster is going to be released? I know it comes out this month, I just don't know the exact date.

Used to be a huge comics fan during the Secret Wars / Secret Wars 2 days. Are the New Mutants still around? Also used to be into the Serpent Society (at least I think thats what they were called - Villians all of them - wouldn't want it any other way).

I heard they are making a Powerman / Iron Fist movie - they must be running out of Superheros.

Wow. You came back in time for a new Secret War. new Mutants are X-Force, The NEW mutants now are called New X-men.

and the new x-men are now x-men. Makes sense, right? :) God..its so freakin hard to talk to new customers sometimes. "I'd like an x-men book"

"what flavor would you like"

Thank god for the astonishing trade/ult x-men, otherwise they'd be jumping into WAY too deep of water

hey Wshakspear do u have all the zim figures series 1?
they retail for 10 a piece what did u get them for?
palisades puts nice figures together
i go crazy at their table at wizard world east every year
last year 2003 they had some 1 up protypes of ren and stimpys logs for auction and they told me i set the prices driving those damn logs over 150 each. not sure they are worth that but prototypes are prototypes and look good hidden in my closet not displayed now unfortunaley.
have u seen palisades auctions for their other prototypes on ebay?
saw some zim ones going for nice prices

They were 18.99 a piece. The hot topic exclusive ones were 15.99

I have the whole regular set, and i might get "angry zim" from Hot Topic.

I also had a VERY nice customer pick me up the Ren and Stimpy fire dogs from Wizard world Chicago. I then picked up Adventure Kermit from the Toronto con.

Ive seen prototypes go for quite a bit...but i actually like displaying and keeping my figs :)
