WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2009

To some, wrestling is a way to get out of the regularity of life. To others like Chavo Guerrero, it is a way of life, a legacy and tradition that entwines a family.

His gene line reads something out of wrestling history; his grandfather was the legendary wrestler and promoter Gory Guerrero and his late uncle, Eddie Guerrero, is a name that will continue through the ages.

"Chavito" began his quest at an early age, often wrestling with Eddie during the intermissions of Gory's shows in Texas. After making his official in-ring debut in Mexico and traveling around the world, Chavo came to WCW in 1996, winning the Cruiserweight Championship twice during his time there.

Chavo came to WWE in 2001, and has won the Cruiserweight and Tag Team Championships multiple times. He fulfilled a life-long dream when he teamed with Eddie Guerrero to win the gold in 2002.

Following the tragic passing of Eddie in November 2005, Chavo has dedicated every match to his late uncle, and adopted Eddie's signature Frog Splash as his own finishing maneuver.

In 2008, the self-proclaimed "Mexican Warrior" aggressively pursued CM Punk's ECW Championship, leading Guerrero to winning the ECW Title. He has since remained a staple to ECW's roster. Now, with his association his bodyguard Bam Neely, he is more dangerous than ever.

No matter who he is with or against, Chavo is still realizing his destiny as a member of one of the most celebrated families in sports-entertainment history. Source: WWE.com

Long story short...

*Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions to feature 66 playable people. Obviously the leak didn't reveal everybody...
*Create-A-Belt is OUT. This is apparently due to it being a rarely used feature in the game.
*Create-A-Tron is a distinct possibility for future editions of the game.
*Tribute To The Troops arena is 100% confirmed IN.
*No trophies for PS3 players.
*PS3 is graphically inferior to X360 at this point.

I can't say I'll miss Create-a-Belt. It was a nifty concept, but it needed some work. None of the belts ever looked 'right', for lack of a better word, and I was irked that they'd ALWAYS be around the waist.

I guess cutting it is easier than improving it, huh?

Be sure to join the online league (CAGCW), if you want. ;) There will be a graphic. I can guarantee it. And a format!

Create-a-belt is a neat feature, but, honestly, I prefer real WWE title belts (outside of the Spinner, as it's not real) as they mean something. Well, they once meant something. Once upon a time.

Create-a-tron, aye? Interesting. I assume it would be a fancy text GIF creator. :whistle2:k

Holy shit, YES!

I miss that so much, it really added a great element to matches. I still maintain that 2006 is the best of the Smackdown series, and it's partly because of the drama that occured during matches. For various reasons, matches in 2006 just seemed way more... epic, for lack of a better word. Not all the time, mind you, but enough that it's still worth playing. I actually did a Benoit/Kane match... regular, no stips... last weekend that lasted 25 minutes. Blood, double knockouts, constant exhaustion, it was fantastic. Plus, when I finally put him down, there was a distinct sense of accomplishment.

(and yes, I realize that the main reason that it didn't end quickly is because neither the Crossface or the headbutt are terribly effective since you can't really submit computers in Legend, nor do they stay down long enough to hit a top rope move... but, still, it worked for me. If anything I was amazed that I kept kicking out. 22 minutes in, bright red, and I kick out of a chokeslam? EPIC.)

If I could give Cody a liver spot, I would.

In further regards to the Create-a-Tron, it would be neat if they allowed us to use saved video highlights (of matches) to help compose it. :whistle2:k

As the son of WWE Hall of Famer the "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes, Cody Rhodes grew up admiring his father and watching him capture the imagination of wrestling fans worldwide. Now Cody is ready to carry on his father's legacy while carving out one of his own in WWE. Cody's road to success started when he teamed with Hardcore Holly, as the two captured the World Tag Team Championship in 2007.

Besides being the son of "the son of a plumber," Cody seems like he was destined for the squared circle. He had a stellar high school wrestling career, winning major tournaments before signing a deal with Ohio Valley Wrestling, WWE's developmental territory. While training for his debut on the big stage, Cody was honored when his father asked him to help induct him into the WWE Hall of Fame. It was highly emotional night for father and son, who are extremely close.

"He and I, we're like best friends, we're really close," Cody told WWE.com at the time. "So for us to be together – if ultimately he were to say, 'I don't want anything further to do with pro wrestling,' this would be a wonderful way to cap it off."

Now, with his father watching on, Cody Rhodes is thrilled to have an opportunity in WWE and show our fans that the legacy of the Dream lives on. The second-generation Superstar has already won championship gold twice, the first time obtaining the World Tag Team Championship with partner Hardcore Holly, and the second time turning on Holly with new partner and fellow wrestling scion, Ted DiBiase, to win the title again at Night of Champions.

Along with DiBiase, Cody Rhodes represents a new generation of Superstars that have the genetics, pride and confidence to go the distance. Rhodes has made his intentions clear: to make his own name in WWE, and he doesn't want anyone holding him back. Source: WWE.com

Hardcore Holly is a man definitely deserving of his name.

Known as "The Alabama Slammer," he is as tough as they come and has been a mainstay in WWE for more than a decade. Brutalizing opponents with his gruff offensive attacks, Hardcore Holly earned his nickname during the era of the hardcore division in WWE. Even to this day, Holly still lives up to his hardcore reputation, punishing opponents with hard fists, hardcore brawling and his trademark Alabama Slam.

Channeling his anger as a tool in the ring, Holly has enjoyed great success. Just a year after his debut, Holly teamed with 1-2-3 Kid at the 1995 Royal Rumble to win a tournament for the World Tag Team Championship. Four years later, he won the World Tag Team Championship once again with Crash Holly.

He was extremely successful in the hardcore division as well, winning the Hardcore Championship six times during its active era. His toughness and no-nonsense attitude earned a slot as one of the trainers for MTV's Tough Enough 2, where he used his fists to teach several hopeful trainees about respect, hard work and paying your dues.

All of which serves to reinforce the Alabaman's grit. It's also why you don't get any respect in WWE unless you've beaten Hardcore Holly first. Source: WWE.com

if you're too lazy to watch it, it confirms:

-30 CAW slots for both 360/PS3

-Create a Tag team entrance as well as new tag team motions

-64 CAW layers for both systems

-same framerate (60fps) for both systems

-still unable to take CAWS with logos online, but next year that will be gone

-CAWS no longer appear in a box on the wrestler select screen and will now be fully rendered just as the in game models

-if you copy a CAW, only their model will be copied, not their attributes

-next year they will try for being able to use the Highlight Reel as a created titantron

-there will be premade Highlight Reel videos at the start of the game

-you can save up to 20 highlight reels (ones you've made yourself or ones you have downloaded from other people)

-there will be new motions for wrestlers that hold championships

-the demo will feature tag team matches

-there will be new grapples for cage/HIAC matches

-more moves have been added in this game than any other Smackdown game (around 50 to 60%)

-PS2 version does not have highlight reel or online

-there will not be trophies for the PS3 version (but promises they will be in next year)

-you will be able to turn of the glass shattering effect for finishers

-there will be a few more secret characters as well as a new unlockable match type that is unlocked in Road to Wrestlemania mode. also there will be unlockable unannounced championships in career mode

-DLC will be available shortly after the release of the game (it sounded like he slipped up because he said "i cannot confirm who...or what will be available for DLC but it's going to be really cool". so that should give us hope for wrestlers as DLC)

"-you will be able to turn of the glass shattering effect for finishers"

Good. I'll turn-off that effect ASAP.

I figured highlight reels would be used for created Titantrons. That's pretty neat. When they say "there will be premade Highlight Reel videos at the start of the game", I wonder if that means our created highlight reels will become the game's intro. That would be a throwback to the AKI games whose intros reflected changes made to wrestlers in edit mode. :whistle2:k If so, very neat.

I'm actually getting excited for this game. It sounds like they're trying to improve upon past mistakes to go out with a bang for the last few games in the series.

The Brian Kendrick is one of the more unusual and eccentric young Superstars on SmackDown.
Kendrick has been working to make it in wrestling since he enrolled in the Shawn Michaels Wrestling Academy in the summer of 1999.

Since Kendrick was the smallest trainee at HBK's school, he tried to catch on with a company in Mexico or Japan, where size isn't necessarily as important as it is in the U.S. He also didn't have the standout amateur background that WWE officials covet. But Shawn Michaels — himself known for overcoming the odds — saw potential. With Michaels as a teacher (and unlimited amounts of fortitude and hard work), Kendrick gained momentum.

In 2004 he put his WWE dreams on hold to hone his skills. By doing so, he ensured that when he returned to competition he would be stronger, quicker and more fierce than before.

He again began to perfect his craft by traveling all over the world. By learning the strict Japenese wrestling dojos he continued to gain more experience.

Now, Kendrick will use that same determination to distinguish himself from WWE's other high-flying Superstars.

Kendrick holds the distinction of being the first Superstar to switch brands in successive years as a result of the WWE Supplemental Draft. Source: WWE.com

When it comes to exciting, high-flying wrestlers on Raw, Paul London immediately comes to mind. Only in his 20s, London has already acheived stardom in WWE, winning the WWE Tag Team and Cruiserweight Championships since his WWE debut in October 2003.
London may be a bizarre personality, but once the bell rings, he's all business. He has impressed fans with innovative moves such as the "Dropsault" (a combination dropkick and moonsault), the "mushroom stomp" and his 450 splash. And his successful tag team combination with Brian Kendrick has only led to more innovation.

In March 2005, London won a Battle Royal on Smackdown to win the Cruiserweight Championship. Chavo Guerrero claimed London never actually defeated Chavo one-on-one, which lead to their match at Judgment Day. There, London retained his championship and successfully defended it until losing to Nunzio in August 2005.

London and Kendrick scored yet another upset victory when they defeated MNM for the sixth straight time at Judgment Day to capture the WWE Tag Team Championship. London & Kendrick would hold those titles for nearly a year before being defeated, making them the longest running WWE Tag Team Champions in history. Source: WWE.com

Next year's is the last one.

How will we do CAGCW with no belts?

With the amount of time it takes to create 1 CAW, creating 30 would take more time than I spend playing most games. It'd take like 60 hours to make 30 detailed, realistic CAWs.

Yeah, honestly... the number of people making more than 30 CAWS has to be a TINY percentage of overall players.

That, and with the idea of DLC wrestlers, it'll be rendered obselete for new debuts if properly implemented.

Which they won't be, but I was naively speculating.

Really, hoping that something is 'properly implemented' in a new Smackdown game is likely one of the more ridiculous things I've ever said on here.

Hope for the best. I would really like a non-CAW quality THEE Brian Kendrick in the game. :whistle2:(

They already made his head (which looks great). All they would have to do is create his jacket and tights.

I always have a glimmer of hope, more so than usual since they seem to be trying a bit harder this year.

However, with the utter disappointment in sales for Impact (like 100,000 US... 200,000 worldwide) they no longer have 'real' competition. Once Impact talked about downloadable wrestlers, so did Smackdown. Now... I don't know, I'm worried there's no incentive for them to uphold their end of it now, you know?

Anyone contemplating buying it at launch has to have a glimmer of hope.

I'd be happy to buy it at launch if they demonstrate (1) good DLC, (2) semi-consistent DLC (let's say 3-5+ guys by the end of 2008), and (3) reasonably priced DLC.

But I don't think THEE Brian Kendrick should be DLC that we pay for, but an alternate attire.

Funny, I was thinking that 30 CAW slots was an improvement. I've never made over a dozen in any of the games, but I am totally bummed that copying and pasting doesn't copy the stats with it this year. That was all I would do in the previous games, just make one guy, go through season mode until he was at least in the upper 80's and then copy him to make everyone else.

Overall, everything else sounds pretty awesome so I might just be adding this to the list of games I don't have the time or money to be playing this fall.
....how so?
The PS3 and 360 have these things, they're called "hard drives". They have lots of lots of memory making it possible to store large amounts of game data on them. Limiting the number of CAW slots in this day and age is stupid and there's no reason for it other than to discourage people from simply making the wrestlers that end up as DLC.

I'm just saying, if he's whining and crying about a measly 30 CAW slots, then he would love the TNA game.

30 is a fair number of CAW slots, I don't see the problem.
Hope its true. I want a demo. I played the crap out of the 08 demo before the game finally came out.
I had way more fun with the 08 demo than I did with the full game :X

Well i looked over all the stuff, and it looks like I'm once again suckered into getting a SvsR game. 66 deep roster with little to no Legends? Awesome. Improved Tag Team Match? Even more so. 50% more moves and animations? Sold.

For DLC, I'm hoping they give us the lesser known guys. But what I'd kill for is THEE Brian Kendrick alt costume. That's all I'm asking for. Hell, I'd even plunk down $5 for it.

Any other info on a demo yet? I am wanting to see if this game lives up to the hype, i will probably pre order this and Far Cry 2 tomorrow.

Never challenge John Bradshaw Layfield to a street fight—especially on Wall Street, or when he's offering valuable investment pointers to help bulk up your portfolio.

Our fans watching JBL every week on WWE programming think he's more "bull" than "bull market," but consider the following: He didn't clothesline his way to a senior vice-president position at a major investment bank. Analysts respect his appearances on Fox News Channel, CNN, CNNfn, MSNBC, CNBC, and C-SPAN as a financial advisor, not a "wrestling god." He didn't need a degree in Finance to line people's pockets with cash, or provide common-sense management tips in his bestselling book Have More Money Now. And "The John Bradshaw Layfield Show," a weekly radio program in which he champions his views on politics, sports, and entertainment, is now syndicated in more than 150 radio stations across America. Face it: JBL is saying something the people want to hear.

Not bad for a banker's son from Sweetwater, a Texas town that JBL claims is renown for its annual "Rattlesnake Roundup." (He still laughs at the time the Humane Society picketed the event—"We weren't cruel to the snakes. We just caught 'em and killed 'em.") Snakeskin, however, is no match for pigskin in Sweetwater; football is the town's prime pastime, and the sport that fueled two of JBL's three teenage aspirations ("playing football at Abilene Christian University, going pro, and becoming rich"). He'd earn impressive All-American honors as an offensive tackle at Abilene, though lingering knee problems would limit his second dream to less than a year with the NFL's then-Los Angeles Raiders, and two seasons as part of the World League's San Antonio Riders.

JBL was down to a 1980 Chevrolet step-side pickup truck and $27 in his bank account when he invested his energies toward a career in wrestling—and not opponents like the eight-foot, 800-pound brown bear he faced at a local cowboy bar on a college dare. More important, he realized that he needed to wrest control of his financial future; as he states in his book, "I decided that being poor ain't fun, and staying that way is stupid."

Getting physical in the ring has netted JBL a career wealth of championships, while his "fiscal" approach to the stock market has made him a very bankable resource in shareholders' eyes. Perhaps the one drawback from his economic success is that it affords him the luxury of saying whatever's on his mind—mainly because he can put his money where his mouth is. And since his return to in-ring competition in early 2008, JBL has also put his boot where his opponents' mouths are.Source: WWE.com

Hey it's not like they're short changing us on wrestlers. I mean I'd be somewhat pissed if they gave us 50 of the roster and then tried charging us for the remaining 16 on the disc.

I'd gladly pay the devs money to add in more stuff they have to actually work on after the game is 100% completed.

As it stands, if he's not in as DLC, I'll prob just recreate him as a CAW. Which might be a better idea as I could raise his stats.

I just realized something that might just sway me away from the game; hopefully they revert back to the ability to unlock infinite exp. having to take each CAW and build em up again from scratch would suck.

If you ask self-proclaimed chick magnet The Miz, all the ladies want him and all the guys want to be him. And, quite frankly, it's hard to argue otherwise.

A devoted WWE fan his whole life, Mike "The Miz" Mizanin competed on the fourth season of "Tough Enough" in hopes of winning a contract to become a WWE Superstar. After finishing as the runner up, The Miz didn't give up on his dream and continued to train once the "Tough Enough" competition ended. Now, his hard work is being rewarded as the reality TV alum with the frat boy looks, sophomoric humor and explosive intensity is living out his dream as a Superstar on ECW.

The Miz was first introduced to TV audiences as one of the seven strangers on "The Real World: Back to New York," the 10th season of MTV's popular and groundbreaking reality show. Since then, The Miz has certainly made his rounds on the reality TV circuit. He's been on four seasons of the "Real World/Road Rules Challenge," "The Inferno," "The Gauntlet," "Battle of the Network Reality Stars," and recently as a competitor on a special edition of "Fear Factor."

John Morrison endured a personal evolution of sorts after capturing the vacated ECW Championship at Vengeance: Night of Champions. The Tuesday Night Delight, formerly known as Johnny Nitro, officially renamed himself John Morrison, his given birth name, on the historic July 17, 2007, edition of ECW. Morrison had reached the peak of his fame with the ECW Championship and he believed he could "be himself" from that point, forward.

Shortly thereafter, Morrison found unexpected success alongside another brazen, rising star in the Land of the Extreme, The Miz. The unlikely tandem secured the WWE Tag Team Championship on SmackDown territory following the unique talent exchange arrangement between SmackDown and ECW managing officials. The Shaman of Sexy's vanity reached new heights, much like his sports-entertainment career.

And Morrison has good reason to be confident. He has never been too far away from gold since his debut in 2005, capturing tag team gold as well as the Intercontinental Championship. The Shaman of Sexy was ultimately drafted to ECW during the 2007 Supplemental Draft on WWE.com, and his career was given new life. As the world can now see, Morrison has taken full advantage of his extreme home, and ECW may never be the same.

Well what a waste of a countdown day

1. They don't show Morrison's solo entrance

2.The tag team entrance that Miz and Morrison do have is the same as Rated RKO's from 2008 with the only difference being Miz blowing snot at the end

3.If the signature move shown in the video is supposed to be Morrison's Corkscrew Body Pin, then his Starship Pain split legged version probably isn't there.
