Also my store has at least two people getting a 360 so after I am done with the migration cable I will do in store transfers because you lose $15 between the core and the premium.

Also unlike GS/EB these are the regular trade in prices no special deals so you can trade in and buy on two seperate transactions and still get the same price.
In a story that was FIRST reported here at Xbox 360 Rally, it’s now been confirmed that Gamestop will indeed have a special trade-in deal for your current Xbox 360 system!

Xbox 360 Premium: $250
Xbox 360 Core: $200
Xbox: $50

Yes, you even get fifty bones for your original Xbox. Pretty awesome, isn’t it? I think so — and I know for a fact that I’ll be buying an Xbox 360 Elite, so this works out great for me.

And remember… for once, you actually DID hear it here first. (Too bad none of those other Xbox sites are giving proper credit. Douchebags)

Pretty decent deals, IMO.

remember guys the elite must be in stock the second you try and trade in you xbox or NO DEAL!!! its the '50$ gamecube trade in for a wii' deal ALL OVER AGAIN
How is EB going to know that you have a premium system? The distinguishing factor between a core and premium is the hard drive and the wireless controller.

Does that mean I need to give back my old hard drive and thus lose all my saves? If thats the case, then this is a terrible deal.
well....there is that chrome finish on the $400 versions

Actually, they stated that this is the normal price of the trade-in value for the 360's, so you can trade it in and get $200-$250 for it at any time and use that credit for whatever you want.

Although even if it was like the Gamecube/Wii dealmabob, I know the Elite won't be in such high demand and it'll be a lot easier to find around in stores.

How so? Microsoft stated that it's a permanent addition to the SKU line of 360's, so I can't imagine it being all that rare.

Although sure, right when it launches I'm sure there's going to be much higher demand for it than right now for the other two SKU's, but because it's no limited edition or whatnot, I expect it to be avilable off the shelf in retail stores in short order.

Maybe when the white one comes out, but IIRC the black model will have a limited printing? 10,000 or something?
You're ridiculous. The mods have been getting reported posts out the ass about you, and lately there's been nothin' but diarrhea porn comin' out your mouth. Consider this your only warning.

Chill the fuck out.
lol

I think this trade in deal is retarded because if you trade in your old 360 before or at the same time that you're getting the Elite how the hell are you supposed to transfer all the data to the Elite?

I think it's not limited at all from what I've read, but MS is probably being very vague about it knowing that any hint of a LE will convince some people to buy it.

I'm sure GS has already thought about this, and will have a data transfer cale on hand at all stores to transfer all data from the old HD to the new one. The transfer wipes the old HD too, so it's doing them a favor.

lol... they don't care about that. they just want the trade

No transfer cable in advance. Instead, you'll be able to order a cable through MS as a result of buying the Elite, and get a voucher to trade in your 360 later for the promo price, after buying the elite the day of release or so. Voucher is said to be good until about the end of May, so you have time to get the cable, transfer your data, THEN trade in your Xbox 360.

IMHO, it's worth it to keep the hard drive, headset, etc... and just trade in the system, a wired controller, and ps for $200. Keep your 20GB HD, since $40 for it isn't a great trade in, and you can ALWAYS use an extra wireless controller.

at GS today the 'manager' told me that you have to trade it in and buy an elite on the same transaction, assuming they are in stock and no rainchecks. but as always, gs managers are full of doodoo most of the time so i dont know. anyone else specifically ask about this?

I emailed Microsoft about the transfer cable and just received a reply:

Sounds good to me. Now I just have to break the news to my Premium. Poor guy...

Question about that website (the only good thing to come out of this thread) - how do they know your console is within the warranty period? They use the manufacture date or what?

UPDATE

you might want to add this to the OP as it is a better deal

Gamecrazy trade in prices are now

Premium $275
Core $225
Xbox $60
Hard Drive $35

I was wondering that too.

I believe you register your system first with the purchase date and they keep track from there. Mine was registered when I sent in my request for the MS extended warranty.

So you could actually lie about the date you purchased the system to actually receive a longer warranty period, but don't hold me to this. But I do know most retailers scan the serials when they sell systems now, but I'm not sure if that info is sent to MS or just kept in house for return purposes?

Thing is, I never had to put in a date when I (just now) registered it. I'm not planning on filing a claim, so I have no idea if they ask you at that point.

will EBgamestop let you use the 10% edge care on this to make a premium $275 worth in trade in? Or does it only apply to games?

My 360 is still under CC warranty... I'm thinking about taking it back, but that would require transfering my stuff to my PC first... I don't have HDMI on my big TV and I doubt I'd fill a 20gb let alone a 120...

Pretty much the only reason I want the Elite is because its black. I painted my controller and battery black already.

If you trade in your hard drive, do you lose your achievements? I figure that's attached to your Live account and doesn't really depend on your saves.
If you trade in your hard drive, do you lose your achievements? I figure that's attached to your Live account and doesn't really depend on your saves.
You would lose achievements you would only lose content that you didn't remove such as music, tv shows, expansion packs, game saves, themes, your soul, etc.
You would lose achievements you would only lose content that you didn't remove such as music, tv shows, expansion packs, game saves, themes, your soul, etc.
Did you mean to say you "wouldn't" lose achievements? I'm confused?

Games only.
Did you mean to say you "wouldn't" lose achievements? I'm confused?
Yes, that's what he meant.

Achievments, gamerscore, and a list of downloaded content are tied to your gamertag.

Game saves and the actual downloaded content is stuck in your HD or memory card.
Is this ONLY if you trade towards an Elite?
Not according to the flier. However, at GS, you have to buy the Elite from them to get the coupon and show the receipt to recieve the trade-in credit.

Damn even after the $225 i cannot justify $279 more for 100GB more space (My PS3 is already using my HDMI port and i don't really care about the color.) BAH! Maybe i will just waste my money on that stupid $180 HD.

Hm, I'm tempted to trade my Xbox in towards Halo 3.
Hm, I'm tempted to trade my Xbox in towards Halo 3.
Same here, I'm thinking $60 for the console alone is about the best you'll be able to do anymore. They aren't even really going for that much on Ebay.

well it might not still be $60 when you go to buy Halo 3 and we are no longer taking LE preorders so you might want to act soon on that.

Original XBox consoles can still go for about $100. Try putting yours up on Craigslist. People still look for them for modding purposes. You would definitely be able to get more than $60.

I happened on the registration link yesterday, and like another poster said it did not ask for a purchase date. It stated right out of the gate that my system was out of warranty (I got mine at Costco on launch day).

It seems likely that at least the major retailers may somehow be linked into the warranty registration system...

Hmmmm... how does Craigslist work? Kinda like online classifieds? And do think I'd get a decent amount on Ebay as well?
The premium should atleast get $300. I'm sure if you sell it on eBay it could get you that or more.
After Ebay/Paypal fees......it's should come close to the buy-back price.
This is probably posted somewhere amonst this thread but I didn't see it (only flipped through the other pages).

It almost sounds like you son't get the trade in value until AFTER you buy the elite.
well the gamecrazy one is just the trade in value no coupons and you can actually trade in your console for the elite.
Hmmmm... how does Craigslist work? Kinda like online classifieds? And do think I'd get a decent amount on Ebay as well?
Yeah they are free online classifieds. Just go to www.craigslist.org and then click on the city closest to you (or that you live in). Not only is it a great way to sell stuff without paying fees, but it can be a great way to find deals as well.

Chris

If you use craigslist to buy/sell things, though- Just make sure to meet in a public location for stuff, especially for more expensive items. Also make sure you can test and see if what they're selling to you is in working condition on-site.

Just a heads up for those getting/planning on getting an Elite at GameCrazy.

There's roughly 675 stores nation wide. As a company, on launch day, there will be 900. Employees have first dibs on them and can preorder them. To preorder them (as an employee), you have to put a $100 purchase down and your older 360 MUST be traded in on the same transaction.

Translation: Don't count on finding one next Sunday at GameCrazy stores. Most stores will get one, maybe two systems, and they'll be going to employees. Unless the employees there don't want one.

Interesting, Scorch. I was in two Gamecrazy's Saturday. At one they said they had "no idea" how many they were getting. I thought maybe I was getting the runaround there. Then I went to another and they said they are getting ONE and they "don't know who is getting it". I asked if it would be for sale next Sunday at opening and he said yes, so who knows. I'm not going up there (this one is kind of far) for the possibility of there being one. But I might try my more local store (which is the one that said they didn't know). I'm fairly certain the guys working there don't want them, but it is entirely possible they are saving their 1 or 2 for someone else. I'm a fairly well-known regular there, but with such limited amounts of systems I'm probably not special enough ;). (Maybe if they had 6 or so I'd get one).

hey scorch if you read the rundown/hotmail that came out last about it you will see that the 900 for the 600 something stores is the ones for the employees but as far as my store we will be getting at least 5. and only two could be preordered by 4/20 and a hollywood guy and I got them but I am cancelling mine on Monday and using my hundred to just get the hard drive.

I'm thinking of doing this, but do I HAVE TO trade in my X360 HD in order to qualify?

Can't I cut a deal with the manager to transfer my stuff from my old HD to new HD?

Or, can I buy the Elite, bring it home, transfer the stuff, and then receive a discount toward my purchase?
