May I ask, and I apologize if this has been answered, but is this the Dead Rising with the free roam option or is that Off the Record? I know you can just ignore all the survivors either way, but I was just curious. Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah. I don't get why some are mad or disappointed with Dead Rising 2. Your getting at the least 5 hours of gaming from just one playthrough. It's a good game and the fact that their throwing Case Zero for free aswell is icing on the cake. Enjoy and be grateful it isn't Perfect Dark Zero or Ghost Recon Advanced Fighter 1.

Hopefully I'm not the only person in this boat... would it be recommended to play DR1 before DR2? It's cheap nowadays and I've played none of the series.

2 is a fun game OTR is a better game.

And DR1 is better than both.

No the stories are barely connected. I like DR1 better but they are all pretty good.

Sweet, two more games I don't have. So glad I didn't get Case: Zero when it went on sale.

I like how they added all of the Dead Rising 2 dlc to the gold sale. I hope they keep doing this. Too bad they didn't do it for Defense Grid's You Monster.

Hmmm good point about giving away games to hype the next ones.

What's next? Forza 2 or Forza 3 free in September?

Only one that doesn't fit in so far is Defense Grid. But maybe they are throwing in some odd arcade titles in to mix it up.

Nice I'll have to finally pick up Case West and now I'll have all the Dead Rising games and DLC/Side Stories. So about that backlog.....

If Case West dropped to 200 I'd probably grab it.  For 400 I'll pass like I did the last couple times it was on sale.

I'll grab Dead Rising 2 though, this is the first free game I haven't already owned.

Ummm, has Case West always been 800msp normal price?!?!?!

I never knew that, always thought it was 400msp originally
Case Zero was the one that was always 400 points since it's release (to basically get people excited for DR2). Case West always had the 800 MSP normal price point.

Yeah I know Case Zero was 400 always, I just though Case West was too. I bought it when if was on sale. I would've never paid 800msp for Case West, I could see paying 800 for Zero before West

Every time I download from Xbox.com it always asks me for a security code that sends to my email. I'm looking at the site now but can't find where I can change that, if I can. Anyone know? Thanks.

It looks like Dead Rising: Case West is on sale too. And some add-ons for Dead Rising 2 are on sale (I believe they are skins)
The DLC for DR2 aren't just skins:

Skills Pack - Ninja
When Chuck wears this incredibly cool outfit, he gains the power of the legendary Japanese ninja! With this costume equipped, Chuck will be harder for zombies to grapple and can move through crowds of zombies easier. He will also gain new sword attacks, and throwing weapons (plates, nails, CDs, etc) fly farther and do more damage. Why? Because he is dressed like a ninja!

Skills Pack - Sports Fan
This special costume brings out Chuck's inner sports fan! By wearing this costume, Chuck gains incredible sports fan powers, such as being able to drink as much alcohol as he wants without getting sick, gaining more health from food and winning more when gambling. Plus, attacks with sports-related items such as footballs and soccer balls become more powerful. Let's hear it for Chuck, and that Local Sports Team!

Skills Pack - Soldier
Chuck becomes a battle-hardened soldier when he wears this costume. Mowing down zombies in a hail of bullets has never been more fun! These clothes give Chuck special abilities such as improved battle effectiveness when using firearms. Chuck also gains new attacks when using assault rifles. This pack is just what you need when you want to go on a bullet-fueled zombie killing spree!

Skills Pack - Psycho
Wearing this special costume gives Chuck all the shockingly disturbing abilites of a deranged homicidal psychopath! Actually, that's quite handy if you're surrounded by a horde of zombies. Some of the special abilites Chuck's costume-enhanced psyche affords him include better resistance to damage due to his deranged state, stronger attacks with some classic killing implements such as the chef knife and chainsaw, as well as truly sick new attacks for weapons loved by murderous maniacs everywhere, including the machete, mining pick and meat cleaver!

That being said, are they even worth $1 each?

Crackdown is still listed as free, and it's 7 A.M., EST.

DR2 and DR2: Case Zero are also listed as free as well.

Hmmm, now I need another 32GB drive, wish I would have saw that cheap one a few days back, both my HDD and the 2 USBs I have are full!

Easily. The sports fan and Psycho packs especially. The ability to consume anything in the game outside of a couple of mixed drinks and rotten food without getting food poisoning is a big help and the boost to the weapons is a big help in the fights against the later bosses.

The ninja one is entirely up to you, as zombies aren't really ever a danger and the damage boosts aren't as good as the ones in the Psycho pack.

The Soldier pack is the most useless as guns suck in the DR series.

also, I believe you can wear just one item of a costume to get the effects, so you could mix and match a bunch of the dlc costumes to stack a bunch of bonus perks.

I snagged the Ninja pack, because, well..Ninjas!!!

I may spend the additional points for the other skill packs, even though I have no idea when I'll even play the game :D

It was like that originally, but I think a patch took out the ability to stack bonuses like that. At the very least it didn't work when I played it a couple of months ago.

Just an fyi, you don't need to wear the whole suit for the effects to enable. I only wore those stylish ass ninja shoes and was just as silent and deadly.

Any word on when Castle of Illusion is going to be released? The wait is killing me!

This article says August but since the Summer of Arcade takes up most of August, that seems unlikely. Although I guess it's possible they could release it this Friday the 2nd or Friday, August 30.

At any rate, it shouldn't be much longer. Achievements leaked several weeks ago.
September 4; $15.

It seems like there's a bunch of games that are ready to go, and just waiting for Summer of Arcade to finish up. I get the feeling September's gonna be a pretty busy month for XBLA.

EDIT:

For a limited time only, customers in North America who pre-order Castle of Illusion on PlayStation Network from August 20th to September 2nd will receive the original Genesis version of game, one pre-order exclusive dynamic theme, and three avatars. Customers will be able to download the original game immediately after pre-ordering.

Yeah, Ducktales and Foul Play and now this will make September a decent month for XBLA. Nice to see MS and publishers/devs working to get the word out a little bit more as well, during the summer we had several games that were complete stealth releases.

You know what, that maybe it.

I won DR2 awhile ago and installed it, beat the game and had lots of fun with it but I sold it to buy a new game. When I tried installing it now, it said its already installed. So I had to delete the 6.2 gb disc game install to download the 6.14 gb digital install. I just thought that was interesting. I just needed the missing piece so I could play the installed off disc without the disc. :p

Anyway I recommend looking online and find out all the weapons you could make. Made it more fun for me. But beware of spoilers. I think I did that after I beat the game the first time, then on the second time I went achievement hunting and just messed around using info I found online.

Crackdown is free?!?!  I don't know my Live password so can't even log on from the computer!  Nooooeeeeessssss.

I'm expecting WSOP: Full House Pro and Ascend: Hand of Kul to launch in September, too. And there's several lesser-known titles which should be out as well.

Some of the psychos in the game can be quite difficult if you do not have a good weapon. These packs might help a bit for those that keep getting eaten by that tiger...
If anyone is having trouble with the game Sledgehammer+fire axe and boxing gloves+bowie knife both can be built right outside the safe house and will easily carry you through the entire game.
