Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Lend me your time machine for a bit.
fuck the time machine. That guy has Battlefront 3!
I will get Battlefront and Battlefield confused until I actually play them both (I did the same with Killzone and Killswitch for a while) .

Every time I hear "Battlefield", the next word association in my head is "Earth". Once this game downloads and I can actually play it, I won't be reminded of that awful movie.

Thanks. Turns out I already tried it when I saw the "Download Again" icon. You're right the graphics are nice, but the gameplay bored me mostly because it glitched out for me. Wasn't a fan of the story either.
I'm curious to hear what glitch you experienced that ruined it for you. I've put dozens and dozens of hours into the game and the only glitch I ever get is occasionally when entering one of the "walled-off" fights and the impassable "walls" trap some of the enemies you need to defeat outside of the area--which the game tends to kill them off before too long or else they eventually manage to find they're way to me.

I enjoy the game fwiw. It reminds me of a true arcade game with its sessions that can last a short time or a couple hours, and can be a cakewalk or murder regardless of duration. I love the Dark Souls-esque "thinking" combat, the mild loot system, and the souls system--where you can capture enemies and transform into them making it essentially a different fight and an extra life to play with.

My only real qualm is you don't get to keep your equipment between play sessions. That level 24 frozen sword with that extra freeze-time and freeze-damage ring? Say goodbye to it once you reach the fake-ending and/or quit. That's a bummer but overlook-able if you. view the game as a true arcade experience.

Xbox Live Rewards still says for every $10 you spend you get the rebate. That part doesn't sound any different than how it's been since Xbox Live Rewards did away with MSP. And I have been getting credits back for every $10 I spend; not for every $10 item I bought. Here's what the FAQ says:

"For every $10.00 you spend on qualifying Xbox Store content, you will be eligible for Rewards. The Rewards earned will be calculated at the end of each month, and then will show up on your MyRewards page as Pending in the following month."

It doesn't say 'for every $10 purchase'. And if you look at the punchcards you'll see they are clear when a purchase has to be a certain amount to qualify.

I was getting 2% back with MyAchievements. Now I'm getting 4% back with MyVIP. So far I'm liking the new system better. That could drastically change if our star rankings reset, and we have to rebuild our star ranking each year.
I stand corrected, I re-read the site and you're right. I've fixed my initial statement.

Good news, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has 99% less John Travolta in it!

Well I got lucky today, Eb games had Battlefield: Bad Company for $5 which is $2.5 cheaper then it is on sale right now on Live for the digital version.   Was almost tempted to get Bad Company 2 for $5 as well just to own a physical version and save on the bandwidth but money is pretty tight for me right now so I figured I'd give it a couple days to think it over.

Got Far cry Classic since $2.5 for it was too good to pass up.   Any thoughts on Far Cry 2 and Far Cry Instinct Predator?  Are those worth going back for?

Got Far cry Classic since $2.5 for it was too good to pass up. Any thoughts on Far Cry 2 and Far Cry Instinct Predator? Are those worth going back for?
I didn't play much of those, but my own experience and general opinion seems to be that Instict Predator is not as good as Far Cry Classic, but it balances that by adding a very powerful level editor. Far Cry 2 wanted to be what Far Cry 3 ultimately was, but 2 seems like a much less polished and well-thought out game: infinitely respawning enemy outposts (compared to the no-spawn-after-cleared of the 3rd one), the constant annoyance of catching and having to cure malaria (I'm all for realism but that thing was just plain BS and annoying)... a lot of really annoying things, but the gunplay is solid. Expect insane grinding (both single and multiplayer) if you're an achievement hunter. Both are worth 5 bucks or so, but if you want the best Far Cry experience, as of today Far Cry 3 is unbeatable. People will argue that the original Far Cry (AKA Far Cry Classic in the remake) is superior, but it has not aged all that well, and again the final part of the game is waaaay unbalanced (enemies literally snipe you from insane distances with one shot). Far Cry 3 is currently where it's at, along with its sort-of expansion pack Blood Dragon. The rest is good at cheap prices thanks to very solid gunplay, but each has its share of annoyances.

Heads up for people who are having issues getting into BF:BC2 games, the issue appears to be that you need the 1.7 gb Vietnam (not the paid DLC) update. I could only get into one match after trying for 15 minutes. After I installed the update I got in a game my first try, two different times. The issue is that update is not properly pushing out for people to download. My friend who did not have the update could not join the games I was in. I was only able to get it because it was in my download history. Hopefully, they'll fix this soon.

Before I install the update, I see that the VIP Map Packs are all available to download. But after I install, it's no longer in the store and I can't play the new maps.

Does anyone have Assassin's Creed Liberation HD? If so, is it worth it? I'm on the fence on whether to get it or not.

I bought it this earlier this week. I have only played about 3 hours, and so far the gameplay is the exact same, as the rest of the series. The main character is actually interesting, and is definitely a better main character than Connor in ACIII.

The game itself seems pretty short, but there seems to be a fair amount of side quests to do, after you finish the main story. Bottom line, if you like the Assassin's Creed series, then you will like this game. I think it is a good value for $5, and I don't think it will drop below $5 anytime soon.

I still have my physical copy and the 1.7 GB update downloaded (it's called Update #3) but can't play on any of the VIP maps, any tip? Haven't bought Vietnam yet, but I have the Onslaught mode downloaded and installed (played a bit yesterday). I played the game fine until it became a GwG :/

Do you happen to know how long it takes to beat AC:L?

I want to buy it, but if the game takes me 4 hours to beat, i want don't want to buy it for $5.

"We will be giving the Beta rewards package to everyone who installed and played the Project Spark Beta on Xbox One or Windows 8.1 prior to 11:59pm PDT on October 5th 2014"

Project Spark beta is available free on Xbox One and Windows 8.1

I think it takes about 9-10 hours to beat the main story. It is definitely shorter than the previous AC games. I have been strictly doing the story missions, and I am only on the 3rd sequence (out of 9 sequences).

I just bought it and I've only done two mission, but from what I played, it feels almost the same as AC 3 control wise. Some of the free-running gets screwed up, but other than that it's the same. Although you can tell this was a game designed for a handheld because the missions are never more than 20 minutes, so it will most likely be a short game.

It's worth $5 if you're a fan of the series.

For me it was more about frame rate where my character and enemies would slow down every few minutes. I seem to recall the music also skipping for me and constant dialogue in between combat that dragged too much for me. I didn't like Dark Souls so that also didn't help.

Quoting this for future reference. Thanks for mentioning it.

I would like to point out that Far Cry Instincts Predator's controls are very different from Far Cry Classic (in other words, worse). I heard the campaign is actually good (the demo is multiplayer only) so I bought the game on disc to play later.

quick question... If the GWG free games just say "OCT", does that mean that the game is available for the WHOLE month of October??? I want Crimson Dragon but I am not getting an XboxOne till the 28th...

Why not just grab the game on the marketplace on the Xbox website? My friends have been doing this from the start of the Xbox One GWG, and they still are waiting to get a One.

Thank you for the detailed summary.

It took me 7 hours to beat. I did no side missions.

According to this, the average time for doing just story missions is 9 1/2 hours.
Thanks guys!!!

I think i'll fork over $5 Bing MSP for it ( i know I'm cheap).

Xbox One free games seem to last the entire month unlike the Xbox 360 GWG. If Crimson Dragon is still free now, it probably will be by the end of the month. It's sure to change next month, though, since it's been free for awhile.

12 days until the scheduled shutdown of Doritos Crash Course 2.  Game has already been pulled from the marketplace.  In addition to the achievements, there are 2 sets of unlockable avatar costumes in the game.

Speaking of being pulled from Marketplace, what happened to Dirt 2? I thought I bought it but I don't see any way to download it. I am really not relishing the idea of an all-digital future.

I remember when Doritos Crash Course 2 came out me and my friends were excited to play it since we loved the first one but for some reason DCC2 just never clicked with us.

played the first level of chariot and damn it was boring and not a single achievement the game froze after that so I just returned to crushing souls in garden warfare

Good luck and report back what you find. I will also test Metal Slug 3 and Garou later today and let you know what I find. I'm CONSIDERING buying Samurai Shodown Sen also, haven't made my mind up (yes I know it is no where near as good as the traditional Samurai Shodown games, which I love). Of course SS Sen is not an XBL game, it's a full game, so it shouldn't have the online problem for anyone.
Well, bad news. I tested every SNK game on sale, these were bought with my original account today all on the same Xbox. When disconnected from live and signed in with the account I purchased the games with I get the "You do not have permissions to perform this operation" like it's viewing me as a guest account trying to play the game.

Now here is the kicker: When offline if I sign in using a different GUEST ACCOUNT, all games boot fine and play fine offline. So I guess good news is there is a work around to play them offline. Bad news, thats just an obscene way to make these games work.

If anyone else has encountered the same issue and has another work around for me to play these offline with my main account (the account that purchased them) offline I would greatly appreciate it. Also apparently this issue doesn't happen to everyone, but I found some other posts on the net about this issue.

Thank you . Thats good to know

Don't forget that there are also the Avatar Famestar benefits. The bonus XP I earned while playing Motocross Madness because of having a high level Avatar Famestar was a really neat feature.

I wish more games adopted that setup, where playing other titles awarded you benefits.

Has anyone else played that Refresh-Men game on the 360 dashboard. It's like a short, classic side-scrolling game. It's two players if you have someone to play with and probably can be finished in 30 minutes.

I am sure some of you put me to shame but I just looked at my game excel sheet and I have spent over $1200 on digital content over the last 5 years.  I know now why every game has a season pass these days.
