I bought a copy, too. Took me back to when I played Child of Eden. I wish they would release that for Xbox One; the newer Kinect would be so much better for controlling that game than the original peripheral. There were too many points where I gave up and used a regular controller.

Because Microsoft had to go out of their way to create this special version of the game without the online pass for a service that's focused on enabling you to play online multiplayer in your games. It's not like Dirt 3 on GWG wouldn't create a new wave of people in the multiplayer to pump some fresh life into it for a while, but yeah, people shouldn't expect to get the full versions of the games Microsoft announces for GWG if there are plenty of defenders of the practice.

I don't have Forza Horizon 2 or Forza 6, so that shouldn't excuse them from pulling this stunt.

There are two scenarios for the "simplest oversight possible."

1. The digital version of Dirt 3 never came with the online pass. So if you bought it digitally, it was essentially a used game. Pretty dumb oversight.

2. The digital version did come with an online pass but it was removed for GWG. That's not an oversight at all.

The whole "entitled" rant is getting pretty tiresome. I'm paying for free games as part of my Gold membership. I don't want gimped games.

i am preview member but the 360 GWG are not available yet on XB1. I think its the 12th of this month

 
these games are a service included in my gold subscription, one of the only reasons I continue to renew my gold account, stop telling me their free and not to act entitled

Based on responses people have received from Codemasters, it's #2. The pass was included with the regular Games on Demand version. In fact, if you go to the Dirt 3 page on the marketplace, where it is now free, it even mentions online in the description. If the online isn't included, usually they'd have some asterisk with a "for an additional fee" or something.

But it doesnt matter. It has been confirmed that this was done on purpose for GwG. And as an earlier post from Frisky alluded to, here we pay for a service to be able to play online and they give us a game that we can't play on line because they took it away.

But more importantly, this is the first time that I know of in the history of GwG that a modified (read gimped) version of a game was given out.

To go above and beyond to pull the online component can only mean they hoped people would buy the pass. And surely if it had been free, the community would have been brought to life.

It's just slimy business practices IMO. But whatever.

I do agree it is pretty shitty to do. I personally wouldn't buy it....but then again I didn't buy their game anyways. It was free. I'll load it up get an achievement or two and delete it. I would remember this fiasco though for later and just not support them any more. There are far more things I can spend my money on.

We should all put trouble in with Microsoft about it. Lol

Sounds like codemasters went to the GameStops school for amazing business practice.

The Raven was a multi-episode game so even though that was crappy to do, it technically was still complete as one episode.

Except that somebody above claims that Codemasters said it was intentional. Regardless, do you know how this sort of issue gets fixed if it's just an accident? People speak up and let them know. Shouting them down does nothing to help.

I wonder what this Dirt 3 situation will mean for the BC version. They haven't really done much about DLC, so will the version you download to your Xbox One be able to be played online? Will it differentiate those who previously owned the game from those who got the GwG version? I'm so intrigued!
