Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.

I never played any of the N64 mascot platformers past Mario 64, so this whole thing is lost on me. The name sounds dumb, the characters look dumb.
I love this kind of game but even I'll admit that the name is kind of annoying to write out. I get they were going for Instru-Ment instead of Instrument-Instrument, but they picked one of the worst instruments to do that with, but maybe it'll grow on me. The character design is also lacking, not in polish (there's clearly been a lot of effort put into the models), but just in general creativity. I think the word "generic" has been thrown around a lot. Which is a shame since it's apparently behind the guy who did the original Banjo & Kazooie designs.

Anyways, happy to see them blast through their stretch goals. They just added 2 more little silly ones (which they're about to hit one of them), the last one is an LP at 1.2 mil pounds, so nothing too crazy. At this point, I'm hoping any further stretch goals will be more worlds or online co-op (even if they're significantly higher, which they should be), or none at all, so they can keep the extra cash as back-up in case they need it. Which might kinda be what they're doing for this last stretch goal because I doubt it takes 100k pounds to do a commentary/walkthrough even with taxes and processing fees and the like.

The thing that puts me off of the Yooka-Laylee Kickstarter is that the console version is about $10 more than PC, so I'll let the rabid Banjo Kazooie fanbase pump all of their money into this. I wasn't exactly bowled over by Banjo Kazooie when I played it for the first time recently, so it's best for me to just wait and get a better product at launch for what I'm hoping is a better price.
It was a generational game. Both Banjo games were excellent for the N64 era, but they lack a lot of the refined features we see in games today. I think that if they had made the series today like it was back then (and none of this Nuts & Bolts garbage) then we'd all be blown away. Hopefully, this game turns out to be great.

In its time Banjo Kazooie was a masterpiece. The platforming, the combat gameplay felt fresh, the story was goofy and fun and even the collecting was loads of fun. But the game just didn't age well at all, IMO. I'm curious about this spiritual successor, but I think my tastes in gaming have changed a lot since my mid teens. I wish the Dev team well tho. Its good to see people back games like this.

I'm excited that you're excited.
It really doesn't happen often, does it? If I just had $8 more I'd have also gotten Operation Racoon City as well. Still, three 360 SW games, plus I also grabbed SW:KotOR on sale for my tablet as well, overall a Good week for SW game fans.

When the update hits, I'm going to get one of these for my 360:
http://www.amazon.com/Book-USB-Hard-Drive-Backup/dp/B00E3RH5W2/

I have one like the one linked above (2TB) on my Wii U and a 4TB version on my X1. Both drives work great on their respective systems they're installed on. I picked up my 2TB for $79 when it was on sale at NewEgg.com and my 4TB for $120, also from NewEgg when on-sale.
Is there any reason you are going for that HD as opposed to this smaller one?

Serious question. I can't tell a difference in specs other than size, what am I missing?

Edit: Or even better, what's people's opinion on this drive? Is this just marketing?

ORC is an alright game that needed a lot more polish. It's fun with friends (like everything), but it's pretty dead for the most part. Yeah, DLC doubles the content, but it sure feels like it was ripped out to be sold as overpriced DLC to start with.

I've got my new external and started queuing stuff. I'm a bit worried about letting my ancient console run for a week or more straight to download everything.

Its probably a good idea to turn off my standby downloading, so I'm only DLing stuff while actively using my console anyways, right?

You had a terrible childhood :)
I think some of us look back with rose-colored glasses at some of the games we played on the N64. It came out when I was 15, so I was pretty much prime demographic for the lifespan of the console.

I have fond memories of playing Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Blast Corps, Conkers BFD, Banjo Kazooie, Jet Force Gemini, and other non-Rare games on the system. But each time I go back, and try to play them, (I still have my N64, and bring it out once in a great while), it gets to be pretty much unplayable. The last couple of times, (about 3 or 4 years ago), I couldn't play for more than a few minutes without giving up. Just way to used to modern gaming.

But a modern revamp of any of the above games would be happily welcomed.

I can't even bother trying to go back to play N64 games.  In their time, they were wonderful.  I still remember the first time seeing Mario 64 at a local import game shop....it was one of those crazy, magical kid memories.  Or playing hours upon hours of Mario Kart 64, or Ocarina or Time.....great stuff.  But they just do not hold up today.  I find that anything from the Saturn/N64/PSX era are largely unplayable for me.  I can happily do 8 bit or 16 bit, then skip to the Dreamcast/PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era.  But, you gotta have some heavy duty prescription grade rose colored graphics to play N64 games today and enjoy yourself.

If you can, hey, more power to ya.  Seriously, I'm probably a little envious.

I ordered that 2 TB Passport (first link) earlier today for my 360 because it was smaller than the My Books. I had previously picked up a My Book for my XB1, though a 4 TB model, which doesn't appear to be available in a Passport size. Also picked up one of those USB Y-cables linked earlier to power the Passport. Couldn't find anything that explained what the performance tweaks to the Passport X were that makes it better (if it is) than the vanilla Passport.

I still haven't bought ORC (though I own some DLC for it already), in the hopes that it'll be a GWG and I don't have to give Capcom my money for that monstrosity.

Even original Xbox games are iffy. Flip flopping graphics in MCC collection for Halo 1 and 2 show how large the improvements are. Everything used to be so dark.

Is a y cable for sure needed for the 360? Couldn't find a definitive answer unlike the wii u which specifically needs one for external drive support.

360 doesn't have USB 3.0 so it shouldn't put out enough power for a USB 3.0 powered drive like with the Wii U.

They only made a small performance tweak to the bus to increase speeds slightly in reading/writing. And it doesn't come with any pre-loaded software. Not really worth $10 more.

Yeah, like Eldritch said, those codes are expected to no longer be able for redemption on June 1. However, once they're redeemed, you have 1 year from the date of redemption to use the balance that was added to your account (so April-May 2016 if you redeem soon). I say put them on your account now, and buy less conservatively over the next year to use it up.
hmm where do you see that its a year from redemption? All i see on that link is a mention of the fact that it expires june 1st

I had redeemed the codes a while back. Thing is i think i may have had some money added too, not just with the points. Is there any way to check what i have thats points turned to cash (and hence expires in a couple months) and what was actual xbox $$$ gift cards? If i dont have to blow it all i dont want to. I think i still have like 50 or 60 bucks showing and would rather not just blow it on junk over the next month or two if i can avoid it

One year from when they're added is for points codes that were redeemed after the conversion I believe. If it was in your account and MS converted it then I think it's June 1. There is a way to check what you have expiring when but I can never remember it and fumble my way there so maybe someone else can post the steps to find it (it's under billing or something).

It's true to say that a great deal of N64-era games aged like milk but I can still enjoy the superstar lineup, and not just because of nostalgia.

Mario 64 is in my opinion the greatest 3D platformer ever made still to this day, MarioKart 64 has the best couch multiplayer of the series, PaperMario (noticing a trend here?) remains a great game, as does the original Smash Bros. Yoshi's Story is still a treat for the eyes and ears. Banjo, Ocarina, Majoras Mask, Perfect Dark have all had modern remakes but the original games are still wonderful and quite playable.

And I don't care what people say, dammit: that crazy three-handed controller worked great, were durable, and were well-suited to the games for the system.

I still play n64  (and other old games) often. The dated technical issues aren't much of a problem after a few minutes when I become synced with the game, unless it was just a lousy game to begin with.

Except for Perfect Dark. Love the game but jesus the framerate. I have to play that thing on low res, cinema mode or nothing.

I played Banjo Kazooie for the first time back in 2011 and loved it, it's way better than Mario 64. Body Harvest is also really good and desperately needs a remake/sequel/Live arcade port or something.

Yeah I still play N64 games occasionally as well, and most of them are still playable for me. Still love the Turok games, Rage Wars was one of my most played 64 games

So I woke up to my 360 downloading a game to my non-formatted second HDD that I use for videos. Fortunately it didn't seem to corrupt anything, but I guess I'm not going to be downloading while it's plugged in.

What do you mean? I'm going to buy this 750 GB one (http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Canvio-Basics-Portable-Drive/dp/B005J7YCHG/).

I've been using a Samsung USB 3.0 drive for months on my 360 and haven't had a problem
You're using a HDD with your 360 for months without issue or a flash drive? The external HDD update just rolled out within the last week (and something like a month for preview users). If you mean a flash drive then USB 2.0/3.0 shouldn't make any difference in how it's powered, just the speed, since they're low draw devices that don't require much power.

Something like an HDD that doesn't plug into the wall, such as the one you linked, powers itself off the USB port as well but requires significantly more power. A single USB 2.0 port is capable of 500 mA output where a USB 3.0 port is capable of 900 mA and I believe most of those portable drives draw 700-800 mA. So unless I'm over looking something the 360 will be like the WIi U where it cannot supply enough power through a single USB port to power the drive. So you have to get something like this to allow it to draw power from two ports at the same time: http://www.amazon.com/eForCity-dual-Micro-B-Cable-Black/dp/B005M0ICG2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1430660704&sr=8-1&keywords=usb+3.0+y+cable

hmm where do you see that its a year from redemption? All i see on that link is a mention of the fact that it expires june 1st

I had redeemed the codes a while back. Thing is i think i may have had some money added too, not just with the points. Is there any way to check what i have thats points turned to cash (and hence expires in a couple months) and what was actual xbox $$$ gift cards? If i dont have to blow it all i dont want to. I think i still have like 50 or 60 bucks showing and would rather not just blow it on junk over the next month or two if i can avoid it
"The promotional value we put in your Microsoft account will expire one year from the date the Microsoft Points cards or codes are redeemed."

That's under the section for "what if I have points codes still"

I see no mention of the cards themselves expiring. Doing that would just be two scoops of stupid.

Your Samsung drive isn't using an external power source, just using the single usb cable?
Yup. It's a Toshiba though, not a Samsung, haven't touched it for months so I didn't remember the brand.

This one:

I was only able to use 32 GB out of it, but it worked without any issue.

I was able to use a 500gb usb powered 2.0 GoFlex Seagate I bought years ago without any issues.

Because a USB 2.0 powered item's power requirements are met by a USB 2.0 port. ;)

These USB powered drives have existed long before USB 3.0.

The cards themselves expire January 2025 as I verified with a MS CSR twice

In case any of you guys were wondering, strider on xbox one is totally rad, does a really great job of making you feel vulnerable and badass at the same time. well worth 5 bucks.

Also bought the dr3 super ultra dlc and dr3 based off of recommendations here. so hopefully that's good.

For anyone following this, I just got my seagate 1.5tb usb 3.0 drive in the mail and and am successfully moving games from my 360s HDD to the external, via a single cable. I went ahead and ordered a y cable to use, just to ease the load on the drive/connection.

Debating operation raccoon city but I'm leaning against it because I never started RE6, not like I need another RE on the backlog.

Picked up the DR3 DLC and will probably grab the pinball tables and mega man at some point tonight

[quote name="Armstrong x360a" post="12673640" timestamp="1430621706"]Is there any reason you are going for that HD as opposed to this smaller one?

Serious question. I can't tell a difference in specs other than size, what am I missing?

Edit: Or even better, what's people's opinion on this drive? Is this just marketing?

You will need a USB 3.0 power-Y cable to run either of those Passport drives, due to USB2 providing 500mA power per port and an external USB3 drive needing 900mA of power. Check my earlier post for more details.

The drive I linked I own in 2TB (on my Wii U) and 4TB (on my X1) versions and they both work great. Plus, they use an AC adapter and don't need a power-Y cable.

I use the hard drive that came with my PS3 (320gb) enclosed in a Seagate Backup Plus silm enclosure on my Xbox 360. Originally had a 1tb inside the enclosure which I put inside my PS3. Only use a single cable that came with the drive and it works flawless, ever since the preview update launched.

I do have an external with a Y-Cable for my Wii U though, and that works great as well.

As long as the hard drive is compatible with 2.0 (like the seagate backup plus slim drives are) than the 360 will power it just fine. The Wii U, however, will need a Y-Cable no matter what I'm pretty sure unless it has its own power cord.

Does anyone know what Airmech Arena is? It's listed as an xbox one game on the uPlay app, with actions and rewards and everything else, but the game isn't available to buy.

Nevermind. I guess it's a 360 game mistakenly put in the wrong place in the app.
