So...is there any way to get OUT of the XBox Preview Dashboard program? Because there are no benefits to having to put up with constant updates or problems in apps and games.

 
Is it wrong that I like Fallout but not Elder Scrolls?  I tried Oblivion and was so bored that I had no interest in Skyrim as a result.

Definitely picking up Catherine., but I'm on the fence on Killer is Dead.

I have the Mass Effect games but never finished any of them.  If there was a DLC sale on the first game, I would be motivated to actually play it.

 
What is up with all these Fallout spoilers?  Holy geez!  Fallout refers to a nuclear fallout?  I seriously thought this the documentary/music game about how Fallout Boy broke up (Fallout 3) and later reunited (Fallout 4)...hence the cute Pete Wentz socks in the BBY Gold Edition   All my hopes and dreams...

On a more serious note, I haven't played any of them (though Fallout 3 and New Vegas are in the backlog) - I got scared away when people  mentioned sinking hundreds of hours into it (similarly why I haven't started Witcher 3 or Dragon Age Inquisition).  Although, at this point, after 150+ hours in MGSV and who knows how many in Destiny...

I believe that's the needed item for online play causing the prior ruckus. Did prior online purchases of Dirt 3 include the VIP Pass as part of the main game download? I actually bought Dirt 3 online for about $5 awhile back (never played it), but the VIP Pass was not showing as purchased. Either way, it's another treasure for the pyramid I'll be buried in...

I could not get into Killer is Dead - it was just too quirky for me. And the combat/game seemed rather dull.

As for the DLC for ME1, I don't recall any of it being significant. I can't imagine you'd be missing out on anything important. When I did my run through last year (or the year before), I played ME1, ME2, Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC (which I was informed was the only really crucial one), then ME3 with the 'makes more sense' ending. I haven't actually went back to play the DLC I purchased once it finally started going on sale. Oh, I also had the CE DLC for ME2 and ME3, which added another character/storyline each.

I put over 150+ hours into FO3 and I'm quite sure I still didn't see every single thing the game had to offer.

Hoping and praying there are no Cazadors in the game. They are Satanic spawns of the 7th circle of Hades. Just thinking of that terrifying buzzing sound they make is making my skin crawl.

Yea go to the preview app and opt out (same way you opted in) and it will most likely take a day. Your hard drive will be formatted though

You'll just have to update to NXOE in a week when it goes live anyways. Even if you have an external, making sure everything is copied over, factory resetting, copying things back you want on hdd (I like apps on the internal just to use some of the space), adjusting settings... then next week you'll update and have to fart around in settings again.

At this point, I don't see the point in opting out. I guess you'll have a more stable NXOE, but I bet when we get Cortana early you'll just want right back in.
 
Agreed, seems silly to back out now. You're getting changed again so soon.

I fixed my YouTube issue after deleting/reinstalling. Multiple hard resets did no good.

Dtoid says there's a version of Skyrim for XB1, they made it as practice for Fallout 4.

I'd be happier about Dirt3 if it was getting bc before Fallout. It should be a nice palate cleanser.

Oh, please people. The Dirt 3 thing was not just about online, but the trolls here don't think about the fact that taking actual content out of a GWG title was a dangerous precedent. Maybe someday if they pull something like this again, you'll see the bigger picture. Of course, I'm of the mindset that I hope this stops that from happening.

But go on and feel like you so much better than those who were upset about it.

I personally said numerous times that I doubted I would play online much anyway. It was about keeping Microsoft and/or developers from thinking they could just put up a modified version of a game (the regular version included the pass automatically).

People whine all the time about the selection of games why is it any worse to complain about messing with the content in a GwG game?

And they didn't FIX the issue they decided to change it probably due to the complaints. It was initially done on purpose.

Agreed, don't let DLC for ME1 stop you from playing, you don't need any of it. Bring Down the Sky is decent but completely ancillary to the story, and Pinnacle Station is junk and can be ignored. The DLC for ME2 and ME3 is much more important and integral to the story (not to mention that Lair of the Shadow Broker is totally badass!).

As some others have already said, please do not let the lack of a DLC sale on the first Mass Effect stop you from playing it. The game only has two DLCs, Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station. Bring Down the Sky is the only worthwhile/interesting/somewhat important one and it only costs a buck (or free if you have the physical Platinum Hits version of the game).

Yeah, it's kind of weird that Pinnacle Station never goes on sale, but nobody really gives a crap about Pinnacle Station anyway. It's not really even a story-based DLC, just basically a combat simulator in a game where the actual combat is probably the weakest part (since ME1 is essentially an RPG masquerading as a third person shooter).

I'm currently using a Lumia 520. I bought it a year ago for $40. It was my first smartphone and I've been happy with it. It kind of sucks that the Windows Phone OS lacks so many apps that are available on Android and iOS, but I still really like it for its user interface and its ability to run well on low-spec phones. This phone's call quality is also very good and I really have nothing bad to say about it other than the "app gap."

Having said that, if you really want a Windows Phone, I would recommend waiting for Black Friday or something to see how low the price of the Lumia 640 goes. It's already down to $60 and it's a HUUUUGE upgrade over the 520. So, while I can't say that the 520 isn't a great deal at $10, I think it would be better to just wait and pay $30-$40 for the 640. I definitely plan on upgrading once it hits that price range, if not sooner.

Of course, if you really just want to start out by experimenting with a serviceable Windows Phone for as cheap as possible, I suppose paying $10 for a Lumia 520 isn't a bad idea. You can still upgrade later if you want and you only spent an extra ten bucks.

Do you know if Windows Phone 8.1 devices are fully backwards compatible with Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 7 apps?

Also, would you say that the 512 MB RAM in the Nokia 520 affects the number of apps you can use? I read a little on how certain apps and games require at least 1 GB RAM to be able to download the app/game on the device. Did you ever encounter this problem? If so, I might just take your advice and get the Nokia 640 during Black Friday or whenever it goes on sale, so I don't have to worry about RAM compatibility.

I'd only use a no-contract Windows Phone for gaming & achievements.

If you're looking to get the Windows 10 Mobile update don't buy phones with 4GB internal memory or 512MB RAM. The first will probably not allow you to officially update your phone (even if MS said every phone will update they removed those phones from the supported devices list) and the second won't make you download some of the apps and will lock you out of Android app portings in the future

I have a 535 and if it wasn't for the broken touch-screen it would be the perfect smartphone for me. 1GB RAM, 8GB internal memory, SD card support, 5'' screen.

I'm almost 100% sure that 8.1 is fully backwards compatible with 8 and 7 apps. I suppose it might be possible that some WP7 apps don't work properly, but I doubt it and even if there are some they would be extremely rare. Maybe some apps that are directly related to the features of the operating system, but I really don't think any games or anything like that are incompatible.

Yes, it is true that some games require at least 1GB of RAM and can't even be downloaded on the Lumia 520. I'm not sure what percentage of games are 512MB-incompatible, but they certainly do exist. Many of them are Xbox-enabled too, meaning that you would need a device with 1GB RAM to maximize your achievement-getting capability.

Even for games that are compatible with the Lumia 520, some of the more graphically intensive ones don't run all that well. I would assume that you would generally have a much better gaming experience with the Lumia 640, due to not only having double the memory, but also a better processor. This is not even to mention the far superior screen on the 640, which is an inch larger, has a higher resolution and pixel density, and has ClearBlack technology.

Officially this should be the case as that's what the developer documents they put out before the launch of WP8.1 said. WP8.1 offered new ways to write programs for it that weren't compatible with the older versions but it still had full access to how programs were written for 7/8. Though as mentioned there are likely exceptions for one reason or another.

I liked the 6-8 months I spent with the 635 for the most part. If the hardware had been a little more modern mid-end and the camera was better (or there were any phones available with modern hardware and a high end camera) I probably would have stuck with it.

I have a 535 and if it wasn't for the broken touch-screen it would be the perfect smartphone for me. 1GB RAM, 8GB internal memory, SD card support, 5'' screen.

Very helpful, since that's what I would want - full Win 10 all around. I'm plenty happy with my OnePlus One, this would be for dicking around just because it's different.

Are you sure that's true about 512MB phones lacking the Android-porting ability? I thought that Candy Crush was ported to Windows Phone using an early version of that app porting tool and it runs perfectly fine on devices with 512MB RAM.

Like I said, I plan on getting a Lumia 640 anyway, but I'm just curious about this.

You can "force" the phone to download Astoria's SDK on every phone but afaik the only un-officially supported devices have 1 GB RAM (and the list doesn't even include all 1GB devices)

 
I am going to trade in my Xbox One this week to upgrade to the Forza console. Can you back up save data in the cloud? Don't really care about redownloading games, just want to make sure I don't lose any save data in the transfer.

All your save data is backed up to the cloud automatically if your console is online when you play.
