Everyone saying Destiny is being super harsh. Seriously the game has its flaws but there is absolutely no denying that the core gameplay itself is some of the best we have had for a FPS.

That being said I have been fairly picky with my game playing this year since time has been a bit more tight than usual but Velocity X2 and Toy Soldiers War Chest. I just could not grasp why people liked Velocity, I found it very dull and boring myself. Toy Soldiers was actually a massive let down simply because the other two were so fantastic and yet this one they somehow ruined with glitches. The game itself would crash on me all the time and multiple times I ran into glitches that would cause entire matches to have been for nothing because they would become unable to finish. Pair that with the really strange choice of microtransactions and army building that really didn't impact squat I would say that Toy Soldiers was my biggest flop I played this year.

My friend bought "Ride To Hell Retribution" for his birthday (August 1st) and had me play through, and the expansion as his present.
That was the worst game I played this year.

Yesterday was my 12-year CAG anniversary.  So for day one of year 13, my GOTY list is as follows:

  1. Rise of the Tomb Raider (an absolute must play for anyone IMO)
  2. Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain
  3. Just Cause 3
  4. Mad Max
  5. Assassin's Creed: Syndicate

Numbers 2 - 5 could honestly go in any order for me. They are all excellent open-world experiences, and each are amazing in their own ways.  And for a guy with three sportbikes, I have to say that Ride was a pleasant surprise for me. I bought a code from a member yesterday and played it for several hours. I love that all three of my bikes are in the game, and is well-worth the $20 I paid if you're legitimately into motorcycling.

Made me think, if people cheat in battletoads maybe my girlfriend would cheat on me.

she did! so i blame Rare Replay for making her think cheating was okay and you should get a achievement for it.

Worst game I played this year...hm, the only games coming to mind are Dust: An Elysian Tale and World of Warcraft.

Dust just really wasn't my thing. I used to be super addicted to WoW, but it dropped so far in quality and got so dumbed down that it wasn't as fun to play anymore.

The Elite: Dangerous trial. Unless you are supposed to shoot past the targets in the tutorial and not actually interact with them I suck so bad at that.

Road Not Taken, just did not find it fun at all. Maybe not the absolute worst game (Sketchcross was broken on some of the puzzles) but probably the one I enjoyed the least this year.

Life. I try not to put many hours into it because the nonlinear story mode can get exhausting. It was a kickstarter project, didn't get everything as promised yet (Though I somehow was gifted a kid, I didn't pay for that tier!). I didn't choose the thug life when I started, so it hasn't been easy. Also the graphics suck. Ok honestly, played through Minecraft Story Mode episode 1 and didn't care for it.

I didn't play anything that was absolutely horrible, but the least fun game I played was probably Disney Infinity (the first one). Pretty underwhelming. The only part that was truly fun was the Pirates of the Caribbean world.

Didn't play many bad games this year but I'll have to go with The Raven. I thought the gameplay was boring as hell but I liked the ending of part one. I want to play the other two episodes to see how the story unfolds, but there is no way I'm paying full price for that crap.

If you're counting mobile games, I also finished my last achievement for Bug Village for Windows Phone. That was painfully bad.

OK my one complaint about GH Live is why make a detachable neck that you then can't detach again because it requires some weirdly shaped triangular thing to release it. Can't fit it back in the box to sell it or store it or whatever.

Super Smash Bros.

I don't say that to be contrarian, it was the game I enjoyed the least, by a large amount. I'm just not a button smasher, and that's ok. My kid enjoys it, so not a huge waste.

I really didn't play a large number of games, it must be said. Perhaps if...

Oh wait, no, it was Terraria. I didn't fucking get that game at all. Smash a close second.

THPS5. I went in fully willing to accept that the gameplay wouldn't be any better than the previous versions that I have played, but the fact that it was much worse just killed it for me. Having to load into an instance to do a mission, audio glitches, broken combos, etc. make it my most disappointing game.
