Honestly, I just did the Yeti DLC and it really isn't that great. 6 short story missions and some upgrade quests that don't take all that long...I think I did everything in 6-8 hours total.

Predator was the full retail game that came out sometime around the 360 launch that included both Far Cry Instincts and it's expansion, Predator. Classic I believe is just a rerelease of the first game (Instincts) on XBLA with some small minor upgrades.

 
I might bite on Far Cry 4. Need some games to add to my backlog. Just wonder if it'll get any cheaper by the time I get around to playing it.
 
I never did play FC3, is the dlc worth it? I would buy Blood Dragon again if it was BC. Already finished it on pc, it's so good. I was not a fan of the changes for Predator from the original.

Wasn't San Andreas an original Xbox game?

Least I'm not the only one. I sold my 360 last month and still had this and assassins Creed brotherhood still in the wrapper. I took this one out and played it for five minutes. I was like yep....it can be traded. Lol.

No, the DLC for FC3 is not worth the current asking price. It's super short, no achievements, just pre-order fluff. If it was like $2, ok, sure - the missions with Hurk are ok (i.e. Monkey Business) but $6.xx is pretty steep for content you can finish in less than 20 minutes.

*edit* the previous times it's been on sale, it's been $5. I bought it one of those times after finishing the game.

I've found that I don't feel quite so dirty about my collection if I just remove the wrapper and grab that quick sniff of new game smell ... ohhhh, and how glossy and smooth that new case feels ...

Be warned, Far Cry was made by a totally different developer than the rest of the FC games.

You probably want to play the Crysis series rather than the later Far Cry games if you liked the original

Not only does the Yeti DLC have achievements, it's really fun. This is the only X1 game I've 100% the achievements including DLC.

Thanks for that. I think I am getting this and blood dragon. Although there isn't confirmation of blood dragon being bc, I feel like it will be. Ubisoft has one of the stronger presences when it comes to bc, I looked and they are sitting at 7 titles already available as bc.

I played through 3 and most of 4, dabbled a bit with Instincts Predator and 2, and got bored about 10 min into Blood Dragon. I thought BD was really cool, I think I was just sick of the game at the point having just beaten 3.

3 is one of my all time favorite games. I love how it sucks you in to turning the main character into a total pos and turn his back on everything he originally set out to do. The first half's antagonist is also just so damn entertaining, if you don't like his monologue on crazy then gtfo. Far Cry (at least post-2) is all about seeing what they can make a player go through in order to "win." Is it still winning after (insert spoilery example)?

2 did that with making your gun jam all the time and having survival mechanics. 3 does it with your character being lead along doing horrendous acts. 4 lets you choose who to support, but they're all ultimately equal tyrants.

All in all, some really fantastically fun and entertaining shooters. 3 is a must play if you haven't. Blood Dragon is cheeky and ok, but it's pretty one note and it wore thin for me. I hated what I played of IP and 2, but I never really gave them a chance either. 4 is fun, it has a lot of gameplay improvements over 3 but the characters and story are two steps behind.


This interview with the author explains a lot of the "meta" stuff going on with FC3.

I played some of the first Crysis and something didn't feel right. That was years ago so maybe I'll have a better experience trying it again.

Ambitious, but unfinished is probably a good way to describe it. It has some action, puzzles, and some attempts at stealth. Combat can be clunky, but there is some dynamic options allowed. It was supposed to be the first chapter in a trilogy of Arcade titles, so the ending is unsatisfying.

Noting all of that, I actually did like it for what it was. it also includes a few Avatar Items to unlock. I actually liked it enough to use the item it gives for playing for a bit.

Again, remember that it's not an amazing game, but that it was trying to be ambitious and you might enjoy playing it. The idea of using water as an environmental enemy yet also as a weapon is a neat idea, just horribly developed. Also, you'll probably get annoyed by the voice acting very quickly.

It's like watching a very low budget science fiction movie where you know they're trying, but they don't have the studio or budget to make it truly awesome.

But for $2 it is a game that I'd recommend. Just remember that you're paying $2 for a reason.

I won the game from someone around launch and I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's a fun little game, I ended up getting the full 1000gs in it and ended up in 20th for the best time as well. I also had fun playing the multiplayer with my brother, so I would recommend it but as someone who got it for free I can't say if it's worth the price because well for free I had a great time but I who knows my thoughts may have been different had I paid for it.

Couldn't agree more. Can't fathom why season's passes never go on sale anymore, but "gold" editions go on sale for $6 more than the base versions. In recent memory, it's happened with DA:I, Shadow of Mordor, and now FC4. If anything, the publishers are instructing me not to buy certain games until they get around to discounting the inevitable bundle, hence why I don't plan on buying AC:Syndicate, Rise of the Tomb Raider, or Tropico 5 anytime soon.

 
I already own all the Far Cry & GTA that's on sale except the DLC pack for FC3. I'll probably pick it up since I enjoyed that game.

Wow, that's a really good point.

And I love your word choice of "instructing" - because these publishers' actions really are (unintentionally) teaching us the importance of waiting for price drops.

....Not only will the base game be naturally less expensive - but by waiting for the bundle, its DLC will even be heavily discounted further still.

 
Woah woah woah. Far Cry Vet here, did you just meh Blood Dragon!

Blood Dragon was great, it was a little humored side note for the seriousness of Far Cry 3 and it used FC3's engine's strengths. The same fun gameplay sprinkled with a heavy dose of 80s dude-ism (in my own words). I thought the game length was just right as it actually gave you plenty to do with being just a little arcade game. The amount of humor and badassery in this game, you can't handle lol. It's a fun arcade game that doesn't take things seriously, in-fact it mocks itself and the genre heavily.

Far Cry Instincts is a decent Far Cry title, granted it was a launch title for 360. It gives you a good Far Cry experience if you haven't played the others imo but it's a bit of a spin off in my opinion (as you harness animal instinct powers in this one). I got stuck on one of the missions where I was constantly getting sniped and said to myself with my large backlog that's it, I'm playing something else.

Far Cry Classic, played this one on PC so it was incredibly awesome then because it was the first open world shooter with really really smart AI with incredible graphics (at the time). The xbox version graphics look like crap, imo, but I've had a few friends that say it still holds up gameplay wise but yeah there are a few tweaks for the console version. It does a few things right as this is where the Far Cry gameplay mechanics originated and if you want to see how far the Far Cry franchise has come then give it a go. This is a bit dated now though. I'd say if you played it on the PC, pass but if not give it a go.

Far Cry 2 is probably the low point of the franchise but it's actually a fascinating read, can't find the article though, on the making of for this one. The coolest thing about this for me was actually multiplayer believe it or not but the dynamic fire physics system was neat along with actually feeling like you're driving in the African safari. There's a lot of driving, too many regenerating guard posts and the weapon jamming and malaria was a total pain. There was a good story and character development though.

Far Cry 3, def the highlight of the franchise, imo, with such a good bad guy and crazy gameplay scenarios that really change things up from time to time. New to the series are liberating outposts and by doing it anyway the player decides. I still remember sneaking around scouting and pre-planning my outpost raid when a giant tiger stalked up behind me and I had a bow and arrow in my hands lol (I took it out without being detected by the outpost guards btw). Although this is a Ubisoft game so lol rinse and repeat on the gameplay mechanics and discovering the map, outposts, missions and collectibles.

Far Cry 4 is def a lot of fun and it borrows a lot from FC3 but with an exaggerated height and varied setting of the Himalayas, you really do get a fun and interesting shooter here. Love taking out all the outposts Splinter Cell style too. It wouldn't be a Ubisoft game without the occasional trippy sequence and man they really throw that into the wind here. Ubisoft also throws more at you with more toys to use, weapons to unlock and upgrade and more world to explore (not just bigger environments but also bigger scale with varied height gameplay (love the squirrel suits)).

... and then there's GTA V.

Nothing for me this week it seems.
