Has there been any clarification on the current flash sale or whatever it is for Halo, Lego Movie, etc?  Do we know if it is just for today or a weekend sale?  I like to ponder my prospective purchases as long as possible, wait until the last minute, and then complain I missed it.  It's kind of my hobby...

Maybe when most sites give certain reviews to the _____ Fan/Expert on staff that's more predisposed to like them, but most that are more generic in style that can be given to anybody can result in more of a variation. It would be nice if people could handle the variations with more respect than just "fuck them for not giving the game my assumed scores based on my hype levels" so that we could have a bigger variety of people and viewpoints addressed in reviews, which would be more helpful to the audience overall. Instead, we get 8.8 for a Zelda game being treated like an affront to all that is good in the world with demands for firings being the only reaction many have.

I still like reading reviews, I often find them entertaining and sometimes I'm curious to see where people's opinions coincide or diverge from my own. But I'm to the point now where I make my purchasing decisions purely based on gut feeling. Like this week I bought Nights of Azure instead of Quantum Break. I'm sure Quantum Break will review much better than Nights of Azure and I'm sure that by most objective measures QB is the better game. But nothing about it grabs me. The characters, the story... there's no hook for me. In contrast Nights of Azure just grabs me more on a personal level, something about it looks different and intriguing. Or maybe it's just the cute anime girl on the cover art. Anyways that's where I am.

Re: Reviews, I think too many people put stock into the actual scores. The useful part of a review (and the ONLY useful part, honestly) is where the reviewer specifically discusses what they did and didn't like about the game. Let's say a game comes out and the reviewer loved the gameplay but hated the story and thought the loading screens were annoying. If you don't give a crap about story and don't mind frequent loading screens, of course you'll like the game better than they did.

Oversimplification, but you know what I mean. Actually READ the review. See if the things they didn't like are likely to bother you. See if those concerns are echoed in other reviews or not. Take into account the reviewer's tastes, if you're familiar with them. The score isn't really the point.

For some reason my phone is being a real stick in the mud and won't let me quote Dund3r but to answer his question, canceling a preorder has always been super easy and fast if you go through Xbox customer services chat line. I've never had an issue and it usually takes less than a few minutes.

Somehow my Day 1 controller's Xbox button has stopped working. Is this fixable or should I take it to gamestop? It will turn on the console, but not register the Xbox button while it's on.

I stopped by Gamestop for the first time in two years to see about the free Doom beta key. They said they had about a dozen people stop in for it since noon but had heard nothing from the company itself so had no keys to give out. I was then offered the fantastic privilege of preordering the game for $5 to get two codes. Thanks Gamestop.

I left without any codes.

 
I really hope they remake ET from the Atari 2600 and Shaq-Fu from snes

would be awesome if the season passes got more expensive as time went on and the dlc never went on sale too

obviously they wouldn't have to improve the graphics because they were already way ahead of their time

maybe they could even be packed together and the preorder bonus would be a digital copy of Evolve (non ultimate edition) but at the very last minute they change it to a physical copy of superman 64 with authentic blockbuster stickers peeling off the faded label

that is your choice, either send it in to be repaired, move on to an elite, or do some research with the brands of parts, amazon sells most of the after market parts to replace on the controller

From personal experience, your console may be confused. I chatted with Xbox support and they gave me a series of steps to execute on the console and that fixed the problem right up (hasn't happened since). It's been a while so I don't remember the steps, but I bet they do!

Howl's Moving Castle is actually my favorite, but I don't consider it as well made as some of his others. Princess M and Spirited Away were the first ones I saw and I really enjoyed that the antagonists were well rounded characters instead of one dimensional villians.

The Iron Giant never did much for me. Haven't seen it since it came out on video, sounds like I should give it another try. Doesn't the episode of Futurama with the giant Bender pretty much tell the same story?


Naussica kept putting me to sleep and I don't think I ever finished it. Or maybe that was Tales of the Earthsea. I did like Totorro and Kiki's tho.

Nausicaa is my favorite Ghibli movie, I wouldn't say it's boring. Earthsea is definitely one of the worst. Miyazaki wasn't involved with it.

put the heart and soul back into gaming and we can have new eventual classics with wonderful stories and experiences for our kids so they have the great memories that we do growing up like we all did.

Multiplayer online is here to stay but great campaigns don't have to die

Yeah, Dragon's Dogma was one of my favorite games of last gen and it got kind of trashed in reviews. Or sometimes you have a game with a lot of flaws but still manages to shine through with its good aspects, like Alpha Protocol. Or sometimes a game is fairly jank but it leaves an impression on you specifically, like Lollipop Chainsaw.

The only time I think something like Metacritic actually is accurate is for utter trash games like Ride to Hell. With individual reviewers you really need to know how their taste compares to yours.

But this kind of stuff might not matter if you have fairly limited gaming time. I know I'm willing to try out more because I basically spend all of my free time gaming. If I only had a hour a day or whatever I'd probably only have time for the cream of the crop.

 
Is there an official end date to the Xbox One price drop?  Would it be pretty safe to assume that it will still be going next week?  I'm thinking about switching my Gamestop console order to store pick up instead of delivery, but don't want to get hit with another $50 charge for the convenience of picking it up early

So how do you define waste of resources. It was the #1 requested feature after XB1 launched. By providing it MS is showing loyalty to its customers, and most likely pulling in the 360 owners who may have resisted upgrading, which in turn sells more next gen games.

I once had fantasies of getting rid of my 360 so I would only have one device (XB1). Not anymore. I like my 360, and it remains a source for cheaper entertainment as there are thousands of games I haven't played yet. BC is great, and I wouldn't play a game that has gone BC on my 360 because the controller just feels like garbage to me now after playing on the 1. That being said, no way they make every 360 title BC, so there will always be those games that can only be played on last gen systems. If I only had the 360, BC would absolutely be something that pushed me off the edge of buying a 1.

 
If I copy a game from my 360 to an external drive (not move) and transfer it to a new 360, would it still be playable on the old console?  Asking because I'm giving a 360 away and want to leave as many playable games as possible on the HD for the person.
