Re: Freddy vs. Jason, Michael Myers, etc., saying Freddy would lose to those guys is silly, because it's all based on Freddy fighting them in the real world. While technically true, it misses the point of who Freddy is and what he does. That's like saying you could kick Superman's ass while knee deep in a kryptonite lake wearing a David Bowie catsuit made of kryptonite. Of course you could, but how is that meaningful in any way?

Look, horror antagonists aren't WWE wrestlers. Their job is to kill unwitting teenagers, and nobody is better equipped to do that than Freddy. You can reduce your likelihood of being killed by Jason by about a million percent just by staying away from the creepy closed campground at Crystal Lake (okay, there was Manhattan the one time...we're not even gonna talk about Jason X). If you live in Haddonfield, maybe take a vacation in October. If you don't take backroads through creepy Texas towns, you're not likely to have anyone end up wearing your face.

But Freddy? EVERYBODY has to sleep. And none of those other guys have the kind of power in the real world that Freddy has in dreams. Freddy wins. Hands down.

Nintendo also has the advantage in that it's not like there's a lot of other stuff to go in the Nintendo aisle, so sticking a few rows of Amiibos is a no-brainer for retailers. An entire aisle full of Skylanders, Disney Infinity, etc., that doesn't sell for crap after the holidays is a different thing. Same reason retailers probably weren't super excited to carry Rock Band and Guitar Hero instruments again. After the initial sales, there's a huge opportunity cost to having that stuff on-hand.

Gronk is a TD machine but he still has a ways to go for me to be considered the best TE of all time. Tony Gonzalez has nearly 1,000 more receptions and 10,000 more yards. Longevity still means something.

 
I never understood why people liked Freddy Krueger. He's not scary to me at all, or funny for that matter. The premise should be scary but it's so hard to grasp the concept of being killed in a dream that it seems more sci-fi than horror to me. Watching one of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies is like watching paint dry. It's just too abstract. And I love actual sci-fi horror like Alien because you can relate to the characters in their situations even though it's in the future in space, but when someone gets turned into a two-dimensional comic book page and gets shredded up by a supernatural villain with knife fingers, I'm left saying "....what?" more-so than feeling uncomfortable at all.

I've always had a fear of the woods at night, I think that's why Friday the 13th has always appealed to me. I really, really hope the game is good. Unfortunately the odds are against it.

Though if we're strictly talking horror villains, Leatherface owns all. He's a totally realistic villain (loosely based on a real serial killer), and the thought of being lost in the woods at night alone with the sound of a chainsaw approaching closer and closer... yikes.

The song choice makes me NOT want to see the movie. Hip-hop combined with slo-mo jump kills makes me feel like it's being aimed at a target audience/age-range that's definitely not me.

Well, everyone's different, I suppose. I don't know how scared I'd have been by Freddy if I'd seen one of his movies when I was an adult or seen one of the later sequels first. But my actual experience was being the last one awake when my aunt was babysitting when the original came on HBO when I was like 6 years old. I'd never seen a trailer or heard of him, anything. It scared the crap out of me. I saw my share of Friday movies in elementary school and sure, I wouldn't have wanted to be in the woods with the guy, but Jason didn't affect me like Freddy did.

I will say that's the first time I've ever heard someone compare the NOES films to watching paint dry, lol. Corny? Sure. Not scary? Occasionally. Boring? Never heard that one.

To make this post vaguely video game related, I'll say that I love the concept of the Friday game but I think it's a tall task for a small developer. If it's quality, I'll pick it up. I don't care if there aren't a ton of players as long as you can get a game in. I'm not sure if bot play is included, but I'd at least buy it on sale to mess around with the bots and get some achievements if that's a possibility.

How'd I forget about the Madden curse? I retract my previous statement and say that this may be my favorite Madden cover ever. Only one that comes close is to when Daunte Culpepper was on the cover (although my hatred for the Vikings is more in a joking matter since they were never a threat until I made bets against them when I was younger).

That said, with the league against Brady, and now EA against Gronk, does that qualify the Patriots as a potential underdog story for this season?

Edit: Almost forgot. Considering Gronk gets injured practically every year, when he goes down with an injury this year, can we really blame it on the Madden Curse?

akathatoneguy I had almost the exact same introduction to Freddy, and it scarred me for life lol. I was about 6-7 yrs old and my mom and brother were watching the first one on HBO. Same thing, I didn't know what it was and then I had the living shit scared out of me. It has aged a bunch, but the first NOES is a brilliant psychological horror. 

Luriden, Freddy def became more and more a caricature after the first one (just like Jason). Especially by the time it got to the one you're referencing with the B&W comic book scene. But at the time, the first NOES was the scariest shit anyone had ever seen. 

Also, I really don't know how it's harder to grasp that a man was burned alive and came back as a monster that haunts the dreams of his killers children, than it is to grasp a young deformed boy with a murderous mother, who grows into a masked monster/killing machine that lives in a lake and can not be killed. ???

I also love Jason movies. But they've always been more comedy to me than anything, with a few jump scares peppered in. It gets old to me. Freddy is the 80's slasher king IMO.

Having said that, I am absolutely ready for the F13th game, and it will be a day one purchase. I still might preorder on their crowdfund page.

Gonzalez was really good, but that's like saying Emmitt Smith was the best RB. Sure he has all the stats because he played the longest, but that doesn't make him better than Jim Brown, OJ, Dickerson, Payton, or any of the other 10 or so backs with lesser stats that were still better than him. Nobody in the history of the NFL has created match-up problems like Gronk, he's impossible to cover with a LB, and he eats Safety's for breakfast. His one negative is his injury history, but when you watch how he plays it's easy to see how it happens.

The concept of the Jason character may be outlandish just like Freddy, but the concept of someone stalking you when you're utterly defenseless and alone is real. In real life, you may have a better chance of killing said stalker than you would in the movies, since Jason's pretty much immortal, but the fear of being chased in the dark is a real concept, and the early F13 movies did a great job with the environment and mood. The climax of the original F13, being alone in a storm at a camp, discovering all of your friends are dead, there's no outside communication, and someone's coming for you? Holy crap. The original movie even had the element of mystery about the villain, the fear of the unknown, which made it even better. You couldn't root for Jason because he wasn't really much of a character yet.

It's not the idea of him being immortal that's scary to me, it's the situation. Alien Isolation did a great job of tapping that fear, being helpless and alone and seeking safety. Hell, so did Slender (unfortunately the note collecting objective ruined that game for me) and it's a shame the F13 game won't have a single player mode, as I think it would potentially be the end-all definitive survival horror game for me. But the character Jason isn't as scary when he's being controlled by a mouth-breathing 15-year-old loudly eating Doritos and blaring Slipknot songs.

I guess I did exaggerate when I said watching NOES is like watching paint dry. I'll save that comparison for the superhero movies. Those movies really do put me to sleep. NOES movies are entertaining, I'm just not sure how I feel about them. I'm not scared, not laughing, I'm just... eh? I'm all for creative use of practical effects so I do credit those movies heavily for that.

Thank you good sir! I thought the first one was spot on perfect. It even goes along to the action. The Adele one not so much. It's just lazily overlaid over the footage. It's crazy how much better the movie looks with the right music. I have no idea what the marketing team was smoking when they came up with Kanye. Not saying it's a bad song it just does NOT fit at all with what's going on. Me thinks they're trying to target them youngins to go see it.

Not on the version I streamed from CinemaNow. There was some cartoon Deadpool fooling around to "Never Dance Again," but that Deadpool rap played during the montage when he's hunting down Francis.
