I want 60fps with mod support for Skyrim Remastered....but that won't happen.

Parent company Bethesda Softworks will probably just use a higher native resolution, use 'Medium' PC graphic settings, and lock it at 30fps.  Just as they did with Dishonored: Definitive Edition - which I never played on XB1 because I wanted 60fps.

Can I make a suggestion? Can either the expired deals be hidden with a spoiler tag or just completely removed? When viewing from a mobile device, this gets a little confusing. Plus, I don't care about past deals. What is the point?

That's fine, though. I can focus on the 144 games sitting in my digital backlog in the meantime.  

Right now I'm checking out Mark of the Ninja which is pretty damn good.

Also, I'd probably be down for remastered Skyrim one day if it's done well, but I think I'd rather finish the 360 version first and who knows how long that will take me. I'll grab the remaster for like $5 on sale in a few years when I feel nostalgic and we're no doubt still waiting on Bethesda to make the next one.

Same thing for me. Went to the registration tab and there's no option for me to do anything. Previously, they've released updates in a staggered manner. Here's what the MS FAQ for the New Xbox Experience said last year: "This update will roll out in waves, starting with a small number of users who have strong participation in the program, and expanding to larger numbers of users over time." Might be the same thing for this one.

In all fairness, I don't think that the perspective of most developers has ever changed. Developers get into the business to make cool games and I think most are still motivated by that. It's too crappy of an industry to get involved in if you don't love it. And with indie devs having unprecedented access to console development, you could argue that more games hitting major consoles are motivated by wanting to make cool stuff than ever before. I think it's important to separate the devs from the publishers here. The practices that many gamers hate (season passes, remasters, lack of BC for certain games) are made at the publisher level. They're money grubbers, yes. That's never changed. Bobby Kotick and the rest are in it for the $. That's just business.

Non-preview already supports purchasing 360 games from the X1. What you're probably asking for is does it support using credit on your account, which I don't believe that's changed.

I can agree with this. Just put GWG at the top, and then you can have active deals with gold and active sales and specials.

 
Sort of annoyed about the imminent upgraded system, but if nothing else it'll be nice to see the XBone leapfrog the PS4 (and PS4.5) in terms of power, if rumors are to be believed. It may be too little too late, but I'm perfectly happy with my library of games...just wish the interface was faster. This updated console should have that.

This is probably gonna be how it goes from now on, a half-step update midway through a console's lifespan. It kind of sucks because it gets rid of the main draw of consoles (buy something, then don't worry about it for 5-7 years), but it's honestly not THAT different from a new console launch. I guess if anything it's kind of better, since compatibility is maintained (not to mention at least half the 360 library will probably be available as BC by the time the updated console launches). If this pushes the launch of the XBox Two back until like 2021 or whatever, I'm good with that.

Well if It's anything like the 4.5/Neo that just means your games will always be BC, and you would be playing X2 games at "lower" settings. Sounds like a win-win to me in the long run. I'd imagine at some point games won't always be forwards but you'll always have BC.

Either way it doesn't sound either system is ready to release this year so the XBox One will have at least 3+ years of shelf life. Obviously the 360 lasted a lot longer but I doubt we'll see a gen last that long again. I think going forward we'll just see the systems getting upgraded over and over, and then every so many years a O/S refresh.

A shelf life of 3+ years is a far cry from the 10-year cycle MS typically touted. But as long as the upgraded system does not impact Xbox One games and functionality, I'm fine with it.

However, if games start to turn out like shit on X1/PS4, then I'll be pissed.

Expect new hardware every 2-4 years from here on out. 

Games should be playable for 3-7 years on each system. 

If new consoles come out this year, expect games that will only work on them within 1-2 years after that. if not shorter.

 
probably my last generation anyway

with them going so heavily online based and single player campaigns taking more and more of a backseat I think what I currently have is a good stopping point for consoles. I might consider the NX depending on how it turns out.

all the dlc and downloading and huge file sizes and small hard drives kinda kills the magic of console gaming for me

 
I'm def more interested in the NX then anything else.  Just sucks we probably wont have any good info about the NX until the 4.5/neo/Scorpio are even out.

I think when they tout the 10 year life cycle, I think they're talking about support of the system. I believe the 360 just recently got discontinued. So just because a new hardware comes along doesn't mean they will stop supporting the older systems, the life cycle support of that system can exceed 10 years even if new systems comes along.

agreed. I was talking more about 10 years between release of consoles. They defiantly will be supporting the hardware for a long time. They just discontinued manufacturing of the 360. Support i don't see going away anytime soon.

 
This generation took longer to get started than previous, it seems like. For the first year or so we were getting multiplatform (including 360) games and remasters. Hell, we're still getting remasters. I'm just now finally at a point where all my friends have XB1 consoles because there wasn't enough to play on them yet. I don't care about the "average life cycle based on previous generations" BS. How about we measure the life cycles by the number of generation-exclusive retail games released instead? Have we even hit original Xbox's level yet in that aspect? (That's a semi-legit question.)

I'm probably not buying a slim unless my console breaks. As for the Scorpio, I am very excited to see it. If it's cool then I will buy one but I won't judge that until next year when it's closer to being out.

Make sure you change it to "latest xbox experience". If you are on current experience, you will not get the new preview build.

If you search the net, there are dozens of articles where MS explicitly stated that the Xbox One would have a 10 year life cycle. One article said "10 years conservatively".

"It's probably going to be a pretty long generation. We're probably here for a while because we're built for the future. This is a console that will last you, conservatively a decade, if I had to put a bet down today."

A quick search shows that the person quoted in that article no longer works at Microsoft and even then, he was at Xbox Canada. Plus, taking anything Microsoft said in the first year as fact or a promise is foolhardy because they were consistently misspoken and not coordinated in their messaging.

Just a heads up the free new GTA online DLC is (IMO) terrible and that seems to be the consensus online. Its hard to explain for people who don't know the economics of GTA online. So I'll simply say that the new way you earn money in the DLC is PVP and the payouts aren't great with a HUGE amount of risk that you won't get paid at all. The CEO offices are cool and they added a few fan requests like a weapon rack(so guns you don't like won't show up in you weapon wheel) and the ability to purchase cargobobs. Of course everything is super expensive to encourage the purchase of the microtransactions. Everything they've added post-heists has been expensive, flashy, and with minimal use. The lowrider dlc missions had the difficulty of heist missions without the payout. The Yacht is expensive and barely has any use. This DLC continues this trend. I'm still playing some but I'll have it out of my system soon with only a bad taste left over. For fuck sake, you can't even do the DLC missions in a non-public lobby so everyone is just trying to lag into empty lobbies so they won't be grief. It actually discourages player interactions.

It doesn't change existing gameplay though, right? I've played the game nearly every day since the 360 game launch and I've never played or used any of the DLC, including heists. As long as they don't increase the prices at Ammu-Nation and decrease the payout on standard user-made races, I'm fine with the game.

 
If I recall, Sony has spoken frequently of the 10 yr cycle and it's held true for PS2 & PS3. In the beginning, MS said they would also have a 10 yr cycle and I was thinking, "hell no. Not if there's always online to play a game, Kinect is always watching(which was required), no sharing a disc with a friend/family member, etc."

But MS listened to the gamers, switched course and won me back. Don't get me wrong, I want 10 yrs outta this console I got last summer. But if I can "upgrade" to Scorpio and it's compatible with X1 games, a good chunk of 360 games, etc....I'm ALL in
