I've never played Hunter: The Reckoning or Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks but reading you reminisce about them reminded me of my fondest, couch co-op gaming experience: Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. I played that game for months! Solo, with my sister, with my nephew and with friends.

I'm sure having played pen-and-paper D&D for years before it helped to win me over but... Facing that Beholder for the first time was magical!

After watching Dead Rising 4 streams last night, I agree with this guy's opinion

The game is too easy. I'm not going to spoil too much but dear God, vehicles everywhere inside the mall and overpowered weapons everywhere. Frank runs like he's Sonic making it hard for zombies to grab him, acts like a child and health regens so fast. The weapons wheel pauses the action so there is no tension in trying to get the right weapons, the ice sword lasts an long time and is broken as hell. The mall looks nice but it's so dark and foggy all the time it's hard to see the details. That just could be because it's night right now though. Survivors run away like in 3. They have no story or anything and might as well not exist. You level up incredibly fast, there are tons of enemy survivors in the mall but they are one shot by the ice sword and you can just run through their bullets and kill them since they don't seem to cause too much flinch. I remember the special forces in 1 knocking you back with their shots. Survivors take very little friendly fire. Streamer just hacks away at crowds of zombies with the ice sword and the survivors barely take damage and don't turn on him. Game was definitely made for the casual audience in mind as everything is so simple and easy. Streamer says he's barely into the game and already level 32 and unlocked tons of stuff. Essentially feels it's easy. Zombies seem to get stuck in walls fairly frequently. Otis may be gone but you get a popup every minute or so. Watching co-op and it's like they missed the point of the timer. Saying the timer is in multiplayer and then presenting the multiplayer experience they did is sad. The multiplayer characters never shut up either. I can't see anyone being happy with multiplayer in the way it's been presented. I don't think CV knew what they wanted to do with that mode at all. Alright, chick with the blue fringe in multiplayer is extremely annoying.

Since I have exactly 2 cents in my Microsoft account, I went with a $5 code. I reupped on Gold during Black Friday weekend. Also, Bing is giving double points on weekend searches throughout the month of December so it'll be great to get credit that much faster from randomly clicking on things!
 
Question about game updates and external drives. Since I have a shitty data cap, I thought if I set my external to be the default location for downloads that I could then move whatever I downloaded to my second system. This works fine for games but there was a 4 GB Titanfall 2 update that I saved in my external that I can't seem to copy over on my internal. I guess the workaround is that I have to delete the game from the internal drive first? I know I can just play the game from the external obviously but I'm just wanting to make sure I understand the quirks involved with sharing an external drive between two systems.
 
There's one guy streaming DR4 right now, in German. Ice sword is very strong indeed. Game looks, ok I guess. Same graphical style as the early ones, camera is integrated.

I loved Bulletstorm, i hope it gets an actual sequel.

I enjoyed it as well. I got it through my travels (to India or Russia, can't remember), but it was a fun time just playing through. It's not for everyone because of the amount of swearing (which I found hilarious) and the over-the-top gore, but it's an enjoyable ~5 hours.

I never played the multiplayer so I can't comment on that, but I assume it wasn't anything popular.

 
Don't forget that in addition to the discounted rewards points, you'll get DOUBLE points for weekend searches through the weekends of December. 300 PC points per day Saturday and Sunday as well as 200 phone points those two days each weekend. Great month of stacking so you maximize your searches/points
 
Yeah, but the new Marvel vs Capcom Infinite is coming to X1/PS4/Steam in 2017. I'm good with that. I can always fire up my 360 to play MvC3 and I don't need ANOTHER remaster for my X1. Jealous that PS is getting a Wipeout Collection though

I'll 2nd this. I really enjoy the game, grinding & load times aside. I felt the story to be pretty abysmal but a reveal I should've seen coming near the end made it better. The gameplay is the best part and it's still been enjoyable 10 hours or so in. Although my wife hates it and hates watching me play it. She says the game is nothing but "hop around, double jump, jet-packing bullshit" lmao!

MS tends to overcomplicate everything, but the Windows Store (Windows Phone, Windows 8, Windows 10 etc) and Xbox store use the same pool of credit so, yes, you can buy Windows Store cards and apply that credit to the Xbox store because when you redeem it the credit is reflected on the Xbox store as well as the Microsoft Store (vice versa also applies).

Microsoftstore.com has it's own gift cards and are not interchangeable with Windows Store. And unless it's changed in the year or so since I moved away from a brick and mortar Microsoft store, B&M Microsoft Store gift cards are not interchangeable with ones for the website. Really.

Bulletstorm is a great game. I liken it to a great summer popcorn R rated action flick. Lots of fun over the top action, swearing in hilarious manners, and turn off your brain and enjoy it story. I think attaching the Gears beta to it hurt it badly. It looked like Gears, but it played very differently. Gears fans got it for the beta, then they expected a Gears type of game and didn't get it. Gears is a stop and pop cover shooter while there isn't even an option for cover in BS. Instead it's all about all out offense and chaining kills. And the controls and feel really work, it's really an overlooked gem as far as fun games are concerned. MP was actually pretty good, but there was no PvP, only a PvE Horde mode style of mp. Lack of coop campaign when many other games were starting to integrate it more also hurt. With everyone so focused on PvP at the time, BS's mp emptied out pretty quickly. When I got to the PC version in my backlog a few years ago I soloed a decent amount of the mp, but higher levels clearly required teams and I could see the potential fun. I did find a few players online and had some fun with it (it was at the time that there were fears of GFWL completely shutting down).

The gameplay is the best part and it's still been enjoyable 10 hours or so in. Although my wife hates it and hates watching me play it. OK so without spoiling anything I'm in what I'm going to assume at this point is the last area of the story. It's like "we've got to get to the end of this area quickly before something terrible happens" but then you get part way through it and it's like "oh well we can't go any further until we get more cores so lets go dick around and find some". Completely artificial and arbitrary and really sucks to be forced to go spend an hour wandering around the desert, dealing with the load times, and trying to figure out where you can get more cores to hit the number. The map is utterly atrocious and that there's no way to set a way point is unforgivable.

And it's really awful because the platforming is really, really good. Especially in the area that I'm in now, like I would put it up there with the best 3D platforming in how it feels consistently challenging but fair. The whole game just feels like it needed more budget and time and they needed to stretch it out and justify having made the side dungeons. Hopefully it did well enough that they'll get the budget and time they need to really deliver a polished sequel that doesn't feel like it was going to be a mid gen 360 game that was moved to XB1.

Gears 4 patch notes are up.

Turrets are getting nerfed. Less damage, less health, less accuracy. Do you enjoy playing hundreds of hours of Insane level Horde to get all your classes to level 10? Good, because this nerf will add a hundred more hours on top of that. The Coalition are a bunch of killjoys.

Horde more often then not takes longer then I can commit to during the week even on the easiest setting. Played it last weekend for the first time in a few weeks.

I have this really bad habit in open world games with collect-a-thons of getting obsessed with finding & doing everything I can before I move on in the story. I do a lot of "dicking around" which is likely why my wife hates watching me play open world games (she hated watching GTA V & especially Fallout games). Therefore, I never hit that wall of "go get more cores" to continue (yet) but if I did/do, I could see how annoying that'd be.

The platforming is my favorite part too. Usually in platforming games I can get really frustrated if I get stuck or have to repeat sections over and over. Not so with Recore because you're never stuck long. I will add that I got Recore for $15 on BF which is a good deal for the enjoyment I'm getting out of it. If I had paid over $25 for the game, I would probably not be as pleased with it.

I agree that the map absolutely sucks! And no minimap?!?! I feel like that decision to not include it was also made to pad the length of the game too.

Well the only having two bots on you at any time was definitely made to pad it out if you wanted to get everything. So silly and really annoying if you go back to get the right bot then get somewhere to realize that you still have the wrong one and no core in the needed frame still so then you have to sit through multiple loads and trek back once again.

Despite all the technical problems I still really enjoyed it (just finished it a few minutes ago) and the highs were still worth it. Hopefully it will get a sequel with a proper AAA budget because there's no reason with that foundation that they shouldn't be able to craft something on a similar level to Tomb Raider but sci-fi.
