Regarding Injustice 2 Ultimate, are Darkseid and Brainiac unlockable or an extra purchase? If so, are there going to be more characters released outside the Season Pass?

Darkseid was a pre-order character but I think he's included as part of the Ultimate Edition. Brainiac unlocks after finishing the campaign (though you can also buy him for $6 or $7 if you can't wait to complete it). If more characters are added after the TMNT come out (probably in February), no one knows yet.

Really well done game. Put more time into other games like FH3, Tom Clancy Ghost Recon and now Destiny 2.

I really liked Horizon Zero Dawn though that might be my GOTY I guess if I had to pick one.

Those are my top 5.

Pleasantly surprised by.

Watchdogs 2 was pretty good. Especially after WD wasn't very popular. I didn't hate on the first one like most did. I think they made it much better then the first 1.

Mafia 3. A bit too long IMO but I couldn't even play the 1st one for more then a few hours. Horrible driving mechanics in the first one. Skipped over 2.

Agents of Mayhem. Not a great game but grew on me after a while. Glad I didn't pay anywhere near full price for it. Biggest issue I think was people wanted Saints Row 5 and it wasn't.

Top 3 are probably Horizon Zero Dawn, one of the few games I enjoyed enough to platinum, always takes it up my list.

Super Mario Odyssey, when you can play parts of levels 2D, my nostalgia meter goes off and I’m a kid again.

Zelda Breath of the Wild, my daughter erased my game of many many hours but it’s one I’ll go back to because it’s just great fun.
 
I did a bad thing over the weekend

I bought Star Wars Battlefront 2 at BestBuy with GCU for $30 after seeing the Last Jedi, it came with a Darth Maul bobblehead


 
Game of the Year:

Hitman (even though it technically came out in 2016)

Runner Up:  

Alien Isolation (even though it came out in 2014)

Bronze Medal:

Stardew Valley (2016 also)

Those are the three most memorable games I played.  The ones that will stand out and remain in my memory years later.

Honorable mentions to:

Hand of Fate 2 (loved the original - double super love the sequel)

Battlefield One (still fun 14 months later)

Final Fantasy XV (currently playing - I love being in a boy band.  Best road trip ever)

Shovel Knight (very impressed with the devs for supporting this game for so long.  Buying the complete edition before the price hike was an amazing value and this game is so freakin charming)

Earthlock:  Festival of Magic (GWG RPG that was a pleasant surprise)

Crawl:  Unique concept, memorable game

Overcooked:  Finally, a game my wife and I can enjoy together

I was super hyped for PUBG.  Was planning on buying day 1.  Downloaded Fortnite BR in preparation, and just could NOT get into it no matter how hard I tried.  Every match just felt like a hide-and-seek simulator.  Best strategy seemed to be to avoid combat at all times, since TTK was so low and the maps was so wide open.  Whenever I would attack someone, it would give away my position to 30 other players.  I may kill the person I'm attacking, but then 6 others are converging on my location due to the sound of my gunfire.

I eventually started just grabbing a gun and then hiding until there were like 20 people left.  When I noticed I was spending 18 of every 20 minute session hiding in a bush, I uninstalled the game.

Needless to say, I did not buy PUBG and now no longer plan to.

I'm not looking to be convinced that my opinion is wrong, by the way ;) 

I'm sure there's tons of people already planning on writing how I was playing BR wrong, and/or PUBG is more fun, and/or I need to git gud, etc..

It's just not my type of game.

I got it digital for 28 at black Friday. It's not that bad. If you liked the first one you should enjoy this one as well.

I think over all the first one was better especially if you had the season pass.

The campaign is cool so far and the multiplayer is fun. It's just kinda a step backwards from the first one.

The star fighter mode is much better this go around.

While the levels are cool and have alot going on in the background there isn't enough variety yet.

 
I haven’t even bothered much with the campaign or ground battles in BF2 because the space combat in it rocks. It’s miles better than the first game. And as a huge fan of space dogfighters, it alone was worth my purchase.
 
I think Breath of the Wild deserved to win its many Game of the Year awards; I have definitely enjoyed my time with it.  Its scope and its unique mechanics make it feel like a kind of Oscar winner of video games....so I understand the acclaim.

My favorite game this year, though, is Yakuza: Zero.  Its just a genuinely fun game and the side activities scratch an itch when I want to step away from the main campaign - but stay in the game's world.  And it is a very satisfying video game story.

I'm currently a few hours into Persona 5.  I'm not sure I'll stick with it - its a little outside my usual choice-driven RPG wheelhouse - but I'm realizing that Phil's year 2017 trips to Japan really need to produce results: we need more Eastern third-party titles on my favorite platform.

You should check out Mafia 2 if you ever get the chance. I never played the first one so I can't speak to specific improvements from the original, but Mafia 2 was a good game with a decent story.

If they can make 50 v 50 battle royale games where is 50 v 50 X-wing vs Tie Fighter? Two whole fleets battling it out in space combat.

They tried to do a remake of the classic but apparently it got scrapped. "Something" went terribly wrong.

Rogue Squadron was supposed to get a touched up collection on the Wii of the original 3 games, but it got scrapped late in development when the studio closed. If it had been released, the series might have seen a new entry.

I've heard the Starfighter games on the OG Xbox / PS2 were decent spiritual successors, but the originals are so damn good.

 
Eh, I thought Starfighter was just OK. Not even close to being as good as the Rogue Squadron games. Disney/EA needs to get on this — like now.

As Gamegirlpocket says above there was a Rogue Squadron Trilogy that was suppose to come out on Xbox and also Factor 5 had a Rogue Squadron: X-wing vs Tie Fighter game in development for awhile for the 360 that got canned. I know it was a long time ago but jumping forward to today these are the kind of things that make you look at the lack of games for the Xbox One and think are they making even more bad decisions I don't know about, haha ;)

I've basically been playing PUBG as stealth game on solo, if you play Squads in it or Fortnite it's not quite as bad. The 50 vs 50 in Fortnite might be up your alley too.
 
GotY: Destiny 2 (Destiny 1)

I know not everybody was pleased and that's great. Things don't get better if you're lukewarm and complacently satisfied with the status quo. So kudos to you if you had constructive criticism. I, however, got on the hype train, enjoyed the game, and continue to enjoy it. It pushed me to up my PvP game and I always enjoy measurable improvement as it gives me sense of pseudo accomplishment.

As with the honorable mentions below, I spent time grinding through the prequel and so it was with Destiny: The Collection. I still have more to do in D1 but a learned more about each game from the other.

1st Runner Up: CoD WWII (CoD 2, CoD 3, CoD WaW)

Enjoyed the campaign and its intensity, story was a bit of a cliché (I'm in command now. Nobody knows anybody's backstory but all of our personal issues will collide and in the end we'll respect each other for it. ) but I still enjoyed the acting. Also played predecessor games in prep for release.

2nd Runner Up: South Park: The Fractured But Whole (South Park: The Stick of Truth)

Again I played the prequel/predecessor prior to launch. As a big South Park fan for many years I was hyped for this and did a preorder. I was really satisfied with both games as they maintained the look and feel of the associated TV show. Story lines were satisfying and especially liked that SoT was launched from a story arc in the TV series. It's not necessary to see that story arc to play the game, but as a fan it's fun to have media from different formats tie together. Combat did change between the two games, personally I found the SoT action selection system more intuitive to operate. Perhaps it was merely because I encountered that system first. TFBW combat system did add a layer of strategy with the combat grid which enabled moving characters and chasing/avoiding in some scrnarios, making it a welcomed change.

Thanks to everyone leaving GotY picks, comments, and reviews. Look forward to playing a lot of those games.

Keep in min that's a japanese announcement. We might see it get announced for other platforms. 50/50 chance once they do the US announcement. So far I'm only seeing another Catherine and some story tweaks. No word of online play yet.

I didn't think starfighter was that great either. Rogue squdron was a good console space fighter combat simulator. But the X-wing vs Tie Fighter was just such a step forward in online multiplayer. You could see combat stats. You could setup local LAN games or play across the internet. There was no clan/team play in the game similar to what games have today. But squadrons sprung up with websites across the www with their own Squadron emblems, roster, and play schedules.

If they ever do a remake for current Gen consoles the deluxe version has to come with a helmet with builtin wireless mic and headphones and pilot jump suit (your choice of rebel or empire).

Not at all trying to convince you you're wrong. But it is an interesting perspective. I totally get where you're coming from, and you're not wrong. Logically speaking, it does seem like hiding gets you further along and has less risk. In that way, it's almost a more realistic strategy as well. If you were actually put in that situation, you wouldn't be running around outside being a target for everybody. You'd grab weapons, get inside, defend yourself when necessary, and only move when you needed to.

But at the same time, unless you're incredibly lucky, you're also not going to have the resources that the people taking the risks have. And at some point, your hand will be forced and you will have to move. To me, that's where the strategy of the game lies. Do you hunker down for as long as you can and hope you have enough to come out on top? Or do you act aggressively from the beginning, trying to get the best equipment, but also risking an early demise?

It's basically a cat and mouse game, with lots of room for experimenting. I can understand if that doesn't pique your interest. Different strokes for different folks and all that. The biggest problem PUBG on Xbox has right now is performance. They've got a long way to go with optimizing the game. I haven't loaded it up since the patch, but hopefully they have a clear roadmap for getting it to run on more than "very low" settings on regular X1's and "medium" settings on X1X's.

I agree. You kinda skipped the best one, lol. Mafia II was really enjoyable.

 
You know how you might see a deal listed on Slick Deals (or wherever) and figure there's no way you could actually get it?  People were claiming to be getting Best Buy to PM a Wal-Mart link showing some store in Mount Vernon, MO that had XB1X in-store for $350.  It was like a 20 page thread so I figured there must be something to it.  Anyway, lo and behold by following the instructions found here the first guy I got in the chat (AlbertP) did it with zero hesitation.  Blew my mind.  Obviously I'm nowhere near Mount Vernon and if you click on the actual Wal-Mart link that says $350 it takes you to the normal page showing $499, so I have no idea why they are doing it for so many people.  I just wanted to share in case somebody was in the market and wanted to give it a try.  You literally have nothing to lose except maybe a few minutes of your time.  Seriously, I was as skeptical as I'm sure all of you are and you might end up getting someone that values their job more than Albert and says no, but I'm in no way the only one to get this deal and wanted to share here.

I saw on Bing you get 6,000 credits if you buy Mordor Shadow of War digitally before the 31st. If they have a good sale on it during the countdown that might turn to a good deal.

3) Homefront: the Revolution (for being much better than expected)

Was over on Rotten Tomatoes and they had the ranking of all the Star Wars movies by Tomatometer. Then I read the comments. I really don’t get the hate some people have for The Last Jedi. Some people were agreeing with it being up towards the top, but the people that don’t agree really, really hate it. I mean some people calling it worse than the prequels.

I liked it and really do not understand the hate.

My ranking:

1) Empire Strikes Back
2) Star Wars
3) Return of the Jedi
4) The Last Jedi
5) Revenge of the Sith (think this is underrated)
6) The Force Awakens
7) Rogue One
—
8) The Phantom Menace
9) Attack of the Clones

Honestly very little separates 4-7. Thought they were all good but not quite up there with the original trilogy.

Revenge of the Sith was dark and gave me an Empire Strikes Back vibe. Personally think it was underrated. Then again, I haven’t watched it in a while so it may move down below the newer movies.

But it’s a long, long drop between 7 and 8. First two prequels sucked balls.

I don't get the hate either, or the comments I have heard; like "Hayden Christiansen is a far better actor than Adam Driver will ever be". I liked the movie and understand the reason why Disney is going in the direction it is going, but to say that a.movie ruins your childhood is exaggeration and a cry for attention.
 
I am just flat-out stunned that Witcher 3 is confirmed to be getting HDR support.

Perhaps this explains why it has taken so long for the patch to release....

I seriously wonder what other surprises CDPR has in store for us when the Xbox One X Enhanced patch hits in the next couple of days.

I got a couple messages on Mixer on the 8th for the Warframe pack and FM7 suit. The Warframe pack shows up in my orders on account.microsoft.com. The FM7 suit didn't, but that's probably handled differently under MS's ecosystem, don't remember if I ever checked for it in-game. I already had Goat Simulator. No mention of the Halo Wars 2 thing, though I can't remember if I got that through some other promo.

 
Talking about Rogue Squadron and space fighters, getting me in a nostalgia mood for Descent & Freespace! PC gamer at heart.

Also the dev that worked on that part of BFII was the Burnout crew.

 
Been a few weeks since I upgraded from the original One to the S, gotta say I'm not liking it in comparison. The S seems to have a big problem with the main dash page. Half the time my pins never show up, and the tiles next to your last game played icon don't show up unless I restart the console. It also has a tough time connecting to my pc to stream video. I never had any issues connecting with the old One, the S tells me quite a lot that no server can be found. Even YouTube, several times I went to play a video and the sound played but no video. Kept my old One, seriously thinking of returning this S. Just not having a good time with it.

I've experienced none of these issue. You might have a defective one. Change it for another S.
