Seriously, I was as skeptical as I'm sure all of you are and you might end up getting someone that values their job more than Albert and says no, but I'm in no way the only one to get this deal and wanted to share here.

Favorite game of the year:   Ninja Gaiden 3: The Ancient Ship of Doom since I finally beat it. Otherwise, it would be Plants vs. Zombies 2.

What, you want something more modern?   Ok, I'll go with "5" from Call of Duty: Black Ops. I honestly enjoyed those add on games more than the campaign.

Runner-ups:

Destiny -  I still don't get the storyline, but it's still so much fun to play. I've had more fun with this game than I've ever had with Halo.

Max: The Curse of Brotherhood - Having been a fan of Limbo, this was a pleasant surprise. 

Mass Effect 2 - I  spent most of my Xbox time playing it, yet I get the worst ending.  I wouldn't call myself a fan of the series, but I recognize this as a good game. 

EDIT: Forgot to mention Duke Nukem 3-D. I prefer Doom but this was still a lot of fun.

I had dotted my i's and crossed my t's so I got the ending I wanted with ME2. So I had to do a deliberate screw up playthrough.

Took a look through the gamefly sale and thought about getting lichdom for $5 with shipping but I'm going to try my hardest to not buy any games until I beat more, unless there's good digital sales since I have tons of credit in my account.

Plus I haven't played The X1 version of skyrim that I bought months ago.

Thanks for the tip! I still have Shadow of War GOTY unplayed (played a few hours of the vanilla way, way back) so not sure if I can justify it. We'll see.

Honestly very little separates 4-7. Thought they were all good but not quite up there with the original trilogy.

Revenge of the Sith was dark and gave me an Empire Strikes Back vibe. Personally think it was underrated. Then again, I haven’t watched it in a while so it may move down below the newer movies.

But it’s a long, long drop between 7 and 8. First two prequels sucked balls.

I would personally go V, IV, VII, R1, VIII, VI, III, I, II. I'm always tempted to put RotJ higher because of the classic moments but there's a lot of suck there, too. I could see myself putting Ep III as high as top four depending on the day. Still suffered from some bad acting/dialogue in places but leagues better than the other prequels. I and II are hard to order because II had the most cringe-worthy scenes in the series but also had some pretty sweet action scenes. Ep I had Darth Maul and Qui-Gon, but was very tedious at points.

I really, really love the top four there and wouldn't really be mad at any order for them. VIII (pacing, mostly) is kind of on its own until I see it again, and then with VI and III, you have movies with some really good stuff, but some real flaws, too. The first two prequels are pretty bad at times, but honestly there's a lot to like there, too, and I still enjoy them.

Hahahaha, I was kind of thinking the same thing, but I can't really say anything because there are at least a few games in my backlog and a handful of others I've yet to buy that would probably top my actual 2017 GOTY if I got around to them.

But really our experiences are so varied from mostly playing older games, mostly playing other systems, to people mostly playing the newest games. Stats wouldn’t have worked well. This is a great group, people don’t even question other people fav game choices (much). At least we all agree that when a sale sucks, it’s bloomy’s fault.

Only 2017 game I played and my GOTY is
Wolfenstein 2 (and I don’t really like shooters)

My favorite game I played this year was Fallout 4.

Back log games that likely will be early contenders for 2018 GOTY are Witcher 3 and MAss Effect series

I agree with most of that. Really, other than V and IV being in the top two spots and I and II at the bottom, the others are so close in quality that I’d be fine with just about any of them in any order.

I and II have their moments but are the only ones I would struggle to just sit through again.

Shit, I totally forgot about that one, believe it came out in June but I picked it up a few months afterwards when the price was perfect. If you like rally racing, this game is fantastic. It's Codemasters so you know you're going to get some authenticity. That might be a negative for some as the game can get quite challenging in places but Codemasters does a good job with accessibility with this one. There's also a good number of disciplines to keep things fresh. Also, the way you can generate your own rally stages is crazy endless fun giving the game tremendous value.

I'm one of the weirdos that puts VI over V. I'm also a I apologist because if you read the now non-canonical Cloak of Deception book, Palatine is the most brilliant evil genius there ever was (and I am aware that if your movie has to rely on a book for it to make sense, that is not good movie making) and TPM is the culmination of all his planning. Also IV never ranks as high for me since the pace is way slower than every other film. If I watch that movie late at night, I might doze off between the droids landing on Tatooine and the Falcon landing on the Death Star.

Is the feature to download the X enhancements to an external hard drive from an S working as it should? I feel like some of you guys were talking about it not working at some point.

The reason I ask is that I'm going to be going on vacation in around 3 weeks where I'll hopefully have better and unlimited internet for a week and I plan to download everything I haven't been able to since I have a data cap. I'd rather take my S and 4 TB external than my new X, but will if I have to.

EDIT: Nevermind all of this. I found the info I needed.

Finally finished Marlow Briggs. Was a fun God of War clone. Only got annoyed with it in a few areas and I think they over did the platform sections. Story was cheesy (intentional) and I hope a sequel comes one day. Perfect timing because the Witcher 3 X patch is going to go live today or tomorrow. There goes another 50+ hours dumped into The Witcher 3 for me. T

Witcher 3 X patch is probably going to put The Evil Within 2 on the back burner for a bit. I was so close to the end to! I honestly love the sections that are not open world but the open world does make you appreciate the combat a bit more. 

Saw on Digital Foundry that the new PUBG patch has improved frame rates but texture streaming got reduced for some reason. Also, John sai that the latest Wolfenstein 2 patch gives much smoother frame rates when turning on aggressive dynamic scaling. If you turn it off you get a native 4k picture at the cost of frame rate.

Is there a story mode now? I've only just installed the Horizons season's pass so it may have changed things, but when I put my 10-15 hours into Elite I don't recall there being any story mode really. There are a handful of tutorials to sort of get you flying, but after that I bought my first ship based off YouTube and guide recommendations and started running courier and trade missions.

It was slow going at the start (for me anyway) and a lot of the guide info was outdated and didn't work as well as it used to. I sort of got bogged down in galaxy mapping and fetch missions, and was then distracted by other games. I know there are some cool things happening in that universe, just not sure how long it would take to earn enough credits to build a ship capable of making the journey.

Well I had arena mode only purchased, and then I installed the standard game from the disc, but it only installed a 10MB unlock token since I already had the core installed.

Trying to figure out how to determine if that unlocked everything without having the disc in.

 
Just got Elite Dangerous myself, the standard edition. There's solo play, so assuming that's it's version of story mode, though I am probably wrong.
 
Holy shit does The Witcher look fucking amazing! I previously thought AC Origins looked the best on X. I think this outdoes it. Running 4K with 30 FPS rather than performance mode 60 FPS.

So gorgeous. And the HDR makes the colors pop brilliantly.

So there is a 60fps mode? I played through it on pc, might do it again on Xbox if I can play it above 30fps.
