Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.

I think northeast Pennsylvania is a dead zone for gaming deals. Zero red boxes have Homefront, and went to a dozen stores today looking for a cheap controller, didn't find anything cheaper than full retal price.

I bought it at $15 and honestly would say it's not even worth the $1.99. Shit was hot garbage and I feel like they should pay me for my time.

Did you play it pre- or post- patch that got it to 30 FPS? Heard it made a huge difference — although still not a great game. Figured for $2, I’ll give it a shot.

For the month of July I completed three games from the backlog (Homefront: Revolution; Spongebob; Spiderwick Chronicles) and played some of three more: Recore, Bully, and Subnautica.
I had a productive July also. I played through:

The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker (PC)

Outlast 2 (PS4)

Stories of Bethem: Full Moon (XB1)

Voodoo Vince Remastered (XB1)

Superhot (PS4)

I'm also nearly done with Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair (PS4) & Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles (PS4).

Find the tune by Stevio2175 and install it. You will be able to get 450 feet pretty easily if you can get past all the traffic that loves to show up when doing these.
Haha wow... I decided to try this for kicks and no joke the very first try after installing it I got 480 FT. I had no idea you could even download tuning setups because I never have reason to mess with the tuning so thanks!

Added Runbow, Grow Home and Lego Pirates to the backlog. Got a girlfriend end of June, so this month of July I didn't even beat a single game. Nor eliminate one from the backlog!! I kept playing Gears 4 and Gems of War though.

Jumped on that Homefront Revolution deal for $2. Even if HR sucks post-patch, I can play me some Timesplitters. If its a total bust, I can flip it and get my monies back

The Forza community is pretty good...anytime you need a tune or a specific blueprint race, you can usually find them named "Forzathon" and complete the challenges pretty easily.

Game of Thrones fans: Sunday's episode has already leaked online in SD quality. Either find a way to watch it or try to avoid youtube for 2 days since my homepage is already filled with tons of clips from the episode.

Pfft, what am I a peasant? I'm glad my youtube feed is just mostly wrestling and video game related garbage.

You didn't come across the 4K one?

Absolutely worth $2. Anyone who says it is 'hot garbage' hasn't played it post-patch or has unrealistic expectations.

A comparison might be ME: Andromeda. I see forum comments on other boards where people recommend that others steer far clear of Andromeda and how it plays terribly, is boring, and how they couldn't trade it in fast enough. Ya ok, whatever. When viewed as a standalone game it should get at least a C+ imo, while a fan of the series could easily justify bumping that to the B range.

Similarly, in its current state, I would give Homefront at least a C, and if you enjoy Far Cry type games where you slowly takeover territory, have a mix of stealth and weapons blazing, and slowly upgrade your arsenal you can easily give it a B or B+. There are 4 different gadgets (explosive, molotovs, distraction, and hack) and 4 different versions of each. This is pretty unique in gaming, and offers a lot of options for approaching different challenges. The PvE co-op missions are also a highlight, and are genuinely fun to play through with a friend or family member, and at least some of them can be done as a duo without needing a 3 or 4 person team.

The game is challenging enough when played on the medium difficulty, though you'll master it in time. There is also a cool searching zeppelin mechanic that I learned to both enjoy and fear. It really adds to the feeling of being a guerrilla fighter against an occupied force. Anyway, as you can tell I ended up enjoying my time with Homefront.

Not XBL related, but Xbox related. I still have not played GTA V, and this week it's on sale everywhere for $29.99, and at GS for $39.99. My question for anyone whose played it is, is the 1,250,000 shark monies worth the $10 extra GS is charging. Thank you in advance.....

I wouldn't pay extra for it. Money is pretty easy to earn in GTA online

I picked up the complete edition during one of the live sales, and had a lot of fun with it. I would bet that most people who talk about how bad it is have not even played the game.

Definitely not. I traded in my copy months ago for a brand new copy at 29.99 and got 2.5m or something in game. Trade in value at the time was almost 20 so 12 bucks out of pocket was worth it when ingame cash I got was worth 20 alone.

Is that something everyone gets when they play the first time with a new copy, or is it just really easy to earn the monies in game?

One of my least favorite things about the internet, this mob mentality to hate things. people hear something is less than perfect or may have technical flaws and they burn it down before it even comes out. We see it with reviews on Amazon for games that haven't come out, for movies people dislike the premise of... it's ridiculous. I enjoy takedowns of truly shitty games but sometimes I think people care more about hating games and than they do playing them.

They did that with Xbox One too......now no one is making Kinect games. Sad too because Kinect bowling is awesome at parties ala Kinect Sports

It's a bit more complicated with Kinect 2.0 since it drove up the price of the console and interfered with performance parity to the PS4, since it used 5-10% of the CPU. Almost every multiplatform title in the first ~18 months had lower resolution on X1 or used dynamic resolution to maintain a solid FPS, despite the specs being almost identical. The impression I had was that most people saw the negatives of it outweighing any positive use or integration, especially since a lot of games used it as a novelty for voice commands and not something which drastically altered the experience unless it was a game which required it. If MS could have sold the full Kinect bundle for $400 against the PS4, I think it would still be standard and much-used.

I agree it's a bummer because I'd love to see what other creative uses developers would have found, and it's a shame they invested so much in creating it only for it to be abandoned.

No you don't get any money for being a new player. I just wanted some fast easy money and trading my copy for a new one is cheaper than buying a shark card. Getting money can be easy or it can be a pain. All depends if you like grinding missions and dealing with trolls.

even gamestop has had this cheaper with the shark card in the past. It was $29.99 there about 6 months ago.

July wasn't too bad to me backlog wise. Didn't make a huge dent with games in the sense of hours, but completions are still completions regardless:

Coffin Dodgers (100%)

Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero

The Little Acre

Whispering Willows (100%)

Also only bought Momodora and Sky Force Anniversary this month, so for once finished more games than I bought. I'll be surprised if I make a dent in August though. Starting up Mass Effect Andromeda, Fantasy football prep, and possibly going to Grand Prix DC at the end of the month means slow progress at best. Here's hoping the sales suck this month.

I think northeast Pennsylvania is a dead zone for gaming deals. Zero red boxes have Homefront, and went to a dozen stores today looking for a cheap controller, didn't find anything cheaper than full retal price.
I'm pretty sure the whole state sucks. Living in PA for 27 of 28 years, I'm pretty sure it was a prerequisite when Pennsylvania gained statehood.

Yea I live In Amish country PA so I feel your pain. But there is a wal mart in the middle of farm country that the electronics section never gets touched. So occasionally they have the harder to find games and consoles, but always at retail price.

My monitor started flashing black this week only while playing games. Only fix is to lower resolution to 240p or wait until my wife isn't using the television. She's addicted to Slime Rancher.

Starting Homefront

The more credits I have to grind for packs in Gears of War 4, the more I feel I acutally paid for a Free to Play Game (& Sason Pass) for what? I still don't have all neceassry skills for Horde to unlock all the achievements, because the RNG is BS and craftifng 39 Epic Cards  (or be lucky enough) to just get one card to Maximum is insanity...

I can get daily rewards and buyable packs in Happy Dungeons/ Wars too, but will probably finsih those games before GoW 4....(at least I finisehd Happy Wars for 360 back then...and it felt less of a grind without actually spending money on it... hrm...

Just an fyi from over at the GS Discussion thread - Homefront: Revolution is $1.99 to buy on redbox if you do it via the web browser or the app. Thanks H2dk....
There was a single PS4 copy left near were I was this afternoon. Picked it up for $2.15 with tax. Thanks.

No Xbox One copies at all.

Hey, there's, uh ... but don't forget ... hmm ...

I saw they upped the first win of the day bonus for August to 500 credits. I try to hop on daily to play a co-op vs. AI game to earn that bonus, but missed the first few days of the month. There's also some days it doesn't give the bonus for some reason.

Yea using that every day, also it DOES work everyday but you have to play the game at a specific time before the timer as a "new day" resets even if I get my Daily Reward pretty early I always have to wait till 6 pm over here to make it count as first win of the day..the games I play before 6pm do not count...bought some of the collectors packs even though there's nothing in it I really want, just wanted to see what the RNG is giving me and wouldn't have been upset if Dom was in one of them...

I also recently took part in a charity event on the gears forums where I gave 5 bucks to charity...there was also prizes...I got a Bodied Gnahser Skin, am palaca guard mega pack the full set of lightning weapon skins (legendaries) and even won a digital copy of the Gears of War 4 Ultimate Edition which included the season pass. That was a real nice surprise, because I mainly wanted to hel out the charity and got so much more...

There have been times when I haven't gotten the first win bonus despite not having played the game for more than 24 hours. Since more than a full day had passed since the last time I played, it should have counted as a new day. For a while, it seemed that 3am Eastern time (midnight Pacific, The Coalition's local time zone) was when the game's day reset, but that doesn't seem to hold any more. Would like to max out the credits for August to use toward Horde skills. Would be nice if they threw Horde packs into the Bing rewards like Halo did with REQ packs.

Congrats on the win on their forums. I don't frequent them enough to see stuff like that. Also missed on the freebie Lancer skins they gave out in streams the past couple weeks.

Homefront: The Revolution is really awesome. Playing it on PS4 (bought the CE for cheap last week). Basically Far Cry in the city. Haters gonna hate - but this game is fun and looks great on the Pro w/ 4K.

Okay THAT is strange if it's more than 24 hours there should BE a first win bonus hum. And yeah the time is inconsistent a littel it's not exactly 6 PM (GMT +2) it's more "around" 6 pm... I really wish they would give the Horde Expert Pack a credit option 2,99 could be 1500 Credits or something, would still get it since there is a guarantted epic skill...also before release of the horde expert pack I'm pretty sure I got a lot more epics out of normal horde boosters especially when I had very low credits...seriously..even if I would scrap my entire legendary lightning weapons skin collection (14 Skins) I wouldn't be able to max a single epic skill card out...that is just insane...

And thanks I wasn't around there too, until I got my Xbone in march..Gears was probably the only game that made me make the jump to the one in the first place...there is not too much happening in the forums so it's not that hard to keep up with stuff. As for those Lancers 2 of them are repeats which I got from earlier streams, missed one though from episode 2..mainly because those streams start at 2 AM in my time zone lol

Has anyone put any time into Has Been Heroes? Been playing it on my switch for a few weeks and it's surprisingly really good. Very challenging though

I'm kind of split on these card packs in Gears. It is bullshit how long it takes to get scrap if you need a lot of it for Horde, but I haven't felt the need to really grind for that, maybe if I was playing on Insane more or grinding whatever achievements are attached. But just wanting to get my main characters with scrap was all I really cared about out of the customization stuff, and so I've been getting all these free """"""new"""""" maps for nothing, when I willingly bought the much more valuable season pass of Gears 3 in the past.

The only thing that has really bothered me is some character re-colors being locked behind the extremely overpriced Esports garbage packs, which even worse are competently random.

The actual map selection has been pretty stupid though. I think 3 actual new maps, with a million classics, and 2 or 3 bullshit variants like Dark. A lot of classic maps would be fine, but I think half old, half new would have been a lot better.

I upgraded my Fortnite to the next bump today... Where do the 50 extra vault inventory slots show up? Backpack? Storage? I don't see them anywhere. I also didn't get all the piñata so was supposed to get. Guess I'm going to have to send a message to Epic support...

Odd question, but relevant to Xbox users... how many of the Play Anywhere titles have cross platform play between the Xbox and PC? My brother in law just upgraded his PC and had heard of the Play Anywhere features, I was trying to find some games for him and I to play together.

A bit less then 20 and not all of them have co-op or MP support. Maybe you can find something in the short list though.
