Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

B:AO is 16.91GB installed on the :xb1: and looks to be installable from either disc.

I'm digging the new softer side of the :xb1: UI.

That's probably where the confusion lies then. There was a thing where any cosmetic items you unlocked could be transferred to Garden Warfare 2, but there was a cutoff date for that.
wasn't just cosmetic, every character you unlocked in gw1 you could transfer to gw2
Which I missed by like 4 days, i was pissed. No wonder they put the game on sale then. If they still had it I might go back and play some PvZ GW1 but without, what's the point (other than achievements I guess).

The last dark souls game I liked was demon souls...... it all went down hill from there for me.

Also if anyone finds a Scooby Doo/Shaggy/Snoopy & Woodstock Funko Pop, I would love to trade and pay shipping on both mine and yours! (Yours being whatever one you want me to get with my coupon) There are some special edition false prophet Superman near me still, as well as some Monkey Bombs last time I was in. I can always check for overwatch as well.

On a side note what's everyone's go to song while playing forza? (or any racing game not named forza)

I keep finding myself listening to this on on repeat

I'm considering FH3 Ultimate, too. If he does it and you do it, I'll do it!
I've only just recently heard about FH3 being awesome from the discussions in here, whereas I previously assumed it was just another boring forza Motorsport game and I really didn't like those original sim ones. If all 3 of you are getting it I will feel like a fool if I don't so then I will need to buy it as well.

Been wanting to pick up Late Shift but didn't want to pay full price. I'm probably in at $8 but have a feeling it'll be dirt cheap or free with GwG/PS+ sooner rather than later.

Rumor on Reddit is that Modern Warfare 2 will be going BC this week. Praying thats true, it's one of the few games I still have in my 360 backlog and I'd love to finish it off on the One.

Pretty bad Dark Souls clone. Do another play through of DS1-3 instead, or buy one of those if you haven't already instead

I see a lot of people make this comparison -I think they are pretty similar, myself. I don't get what people think was so much better about Dark Souls, or why it's so revered in the first place.
I only played maybe 20 min of LotF, but what stood out to me was how slow and heavy everything felt. Gears has a nice sense of weight, but LotF just felt like you were wadding through pudding. The character movements and weapon animations just felt agonizingly slow.

The level design of DS is probably easiest thing to point to to explain why the fans are so passionate. From the very start, you can see places to go to. Castles in the distance can be traveled to. Alleyways you can see way down below from the tops of battlements you will eventually traverse once you find a safe route down. Mob placement factors in as well, but the main point is just how the levels are laid out and interconnected.

That alone would have made DS a decent metroidvania style game, but with all the other interesting and well designed game systems at play it really comes together well. The boss fights having more of an emphasis on memory and timing than just having a huge health pool, the fact that every single weapon (of which there are hundreds) has a unique animation and a balance between speed, damage, stagger potential, stamina usage, status effects, armor having encumberance with real design put into balancing dodging vs blocking... Dark Souls is IMO the most immersive and satisfying action rpg series ever made. I've wanted Soul Caliber weapon styles in an RPG forever, and I think DS captured that spirit and then went on to craft an amazing game world around it.

The Surge is better than LotF, from the first few levels I've played. The sense of weight is still there, but has been toned down and feels more at home in controlling a cyborg than it did a viking. The level design isn't on the level of DS1, but neither is DS2 or 3.

Completely off topic but I'm so agitated I thought I'd post it...bought castlevania hod on the sale. Enjoy it...but the cheap deaths are just too much. How many spiked ledges do they have to have?

Beat boss 3 and then went to drop off the ledge to grab the treasure chest...nope. spikes...and of course I can't see it cause the screen is zoomed out cause the boss takes up so much space.

That's just BS design right there. No skill involved. Just a big f you to the player.

It was a 3.6 GB update that was made available to Alpha Ring Insiders last night. I'm not sure when it will make its way to the other rings.
The new dashboard is terible btw. It is basically a Windows phone crab hybrid. One you can't have as many pins as you had before. And there are a host of other crap things about it. The one they had was perfectly fine imo.

Call of Duty Ghosts will be the XBL Rewards Throwback Thursday game this week. Get 7k credits ($7) for a $40 purchase.
Yikes. For anyone that frequents this thread these offers are a joke, unless you have lots of credit about to expire or something.

EDIT - RIP U-verse app for :xb1: I guess.

I just looked at it on some other sites and it seems ok I guess. Is it really customizable like the websites say it is? I'm a minimalist and never liked all the clutter the xbox has had on the dashboard. Will I be able to keep things nice an neat and keep things organized without cluttering my screen with stuff?

Rumor on Reddit is that Modern Warfare 2 will be going BC this week. Praying thats true, it's one of the few games I still have in my 360 backlog and I'd love to finish it off on the One.
It's from XBox DVR. I don't think one game from them has not gone BC yet when revealed but could be wrong. (Edit Iam noticing a few 360 games on that list that aren't BC yet, but a lot of older entries were spot on. Granted those might be BC soon) They were also the ones who got the BO2 rumor mill further running. If it doesn't happen this or next week then the chances would be extremely low since BLOPS2 came out the week after for BC. There should also be a gameclip recorded by someone when it happens supposedly as well.

Either way would be a bit surprised. Would figure Activision would give it the remaster treatment next year and dump their micro transactions in it. But now that I think about it -BLOPS2 hit the top 10 NPD the month it went BC, correct? Maybe Activision wants some of that disc revenue then double dip next year with the remaster.

You aren't kidding about the no skill comment. That game is all about grinding and leveling up with some of the blandest stage designs konami has ever come up with. Oh, and microtransactions, I fell for that shit hard buying classic castlevania characters and stages just to barely use them.

I played A LOT of Castlevania HoD and would do so again if it hits BC, I don't know why you would say it requires no skill the bosses and level designs definitely felt like they did, I love the old and Metroidvania Castelvania games and thought they did a really good job with this when you play it with friends at least, it's a great multi game. I got all the DLC as well.

Ever since GT4 had The Cult's She Sells Sanctuary and/or Fire Woman, I like listening to those in racing games. If you want themed music, there's always Jesus Built My Hotrod, but as awesome as it is it could get old on repeat. Generally, though I prefer the sounds of driving for shifting gears and the like, although in the Horizon series I prefer the inclusion of music. I often use the DMX song when I create bucketlist blueprints.

This guy totally nailed it when it comes to explaining what's so great about souls games.

I wish they'd hurry up and add my small wish list of games to BC so that I can feel totally comfortable in finally selling my 360 to put toward a One. I just want the Final Fantasy 13 series, Kingdoms of Amalur and maybe Dragon Age 2. I'm sure there are probably more but those are the ones that popped into my head first.

I know that the FF13 series and DA2 are pretty notoriously hated but I enjoyed them (or what I've played anyway)

The home screen is broken into two parts, the upper and the lower, and you can go between them using the triggers or just by arrowing up and down. On the upper part you have tiles for recently run games and apps, initiating an install from disc, a quick tip, and a quick status of what you are installing right now. The lower part is the customizable part with various blocks that can be removed or modified or moved around. I still haven't gotten a full grasp of how this works, but I've removed all of these blocks except for Pins and Welcome. The blocks that I've removed, I'm not sure how to get back.

A few gripes:

  • People on Reddit are complaining about the fact that there are fewer pins available than in previous versions of the UI, but I don't use pins enough to notice.
  • I would rather be able to go from the top section and be able to navigate to each block in the lower section using the triggers instead of just toggling between the upper section and the lower section.
  • When trying to edit a block (Y button), selecting either A to confirm or B to cancel seems to make the screen go blank and the only way out of this is to hit the guide and go home from there. Instead, hitting the Y button again seems to get out of this dialog best.
  • I've set the Day One achievement as my background, and with the current design of the home screen obscures most or all of that art. Maybe it's time to choose a more lively background.
EDIT - Weird. I added the GT of one of my friends to my home, and now I can navigate between the blocks with the triggers. To go from the lower section to the upper section requires a double trigger pull. And when I delete the Welcome block it goes back to the old behavior. I'm not sure this update is fully baked yet.

Kind of off topic but what isn't here ;) I picked up the Oculus Rift back during Amazon Prime day with the price drop. I still couldn't give you a honest argument that it's the be all end all as far as video gaming goes, I definitely think it's the future for stuff like Disneyworld. I must say though that Pinball FX VR is one of the better titles out there. It honestly feels like you are playing a full size hand built version of their fantastical tables. The one caveat on the Walking Dead table they have a zombie lurking off to the side of your right shoulder, just shuffling about and moaning, ha it's so unsettling hard to play that one.

Not liking the home screen and guide changes yet. Didn't like the last one either for a couple weeks then it grew on me. I'll try customizing home to look more like the previous version, but I really dislike going left and right instead of up and down on the guide. I'll get used to it though.

TLDR

Finished Bayonetta this morning on Normal. Good game, lots of style, insane art direction, easy to see it's cult following.

That said - the game would do well to explain some of it's more nuanced abilities and such, and for a game which penalizes you for dying and taking damage, there sure is some cheap crap in it. Cutscenes which don't seem interactive with a split-second quicktime event, cutscenes that end with a fight starting where an enemy promptly slaps you in the face, a final boss with a massive one-hit-kill... I know the game is built for replay value but dang, all these things together had me pretty pissed off a few times.

I may play it again on hard, though, because I'm a masochist.

Got a 14 day trial for Live if anyone needs one. Was on the fence about having a white Xbox, but it's really starting to grow on me.

Edit: Gone

SpiderMan Web of Shadows got added to the XBox DVR site...really starting to have my doubts now lol.

Also BF3 is now available digitally for non-EA Access members... at $20.

https://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Battlefield-3/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80245410950?DownloadType=Game#LiveZone

There was a brief advertisement showing BF1 free on the Vault on some peoples dashboards according to reddit. So might be coming sooner rather then the rumored November timeline.

Also if anyone still doesn't own their copy of MW2 It's still $5 at Gamestop.

So, the Gears of War official facebook page just posted a gif from the Gears of War 2 campaign and added the following: "Engineers should always have the right tool for the job..." along with the #gearsofwar4 hashtag

If Dizzy wasn't in the game as a craft-only character, I'd say they're teasing him. A new mode? Gears 2 remaster? The Coalition just having some fun with "cryptic" posts while everyone else overthinks it?

Prob a tease for the next feature pack, maybe a Baird and Big Rig Dizzy.

Well I officially have Minecraft on my Xbox now. My kids have been wanting it for a while. It never goes on sale so I finally just bought it. Is it 2 player on one Xbox?

Did you check to see if the discount for having played it on :360: was still active? It was supposed to expire at some point, but I recall people mentioning that it was working after that date.
