just wait when you hit the soft cap...
(Cut your quote to save space on the repost)

You hit the nail on the head with most of this. My friends and I were pumped for D2, we played the hell out of it the first week. I loved the story - not amazing or Oscar-winning, but it was fun, reminded me of old Halo games with good cohesiveness finally and some fun action mission to mission. Then the patrols were fun for a little while, and then the Nightfalls were sorta interesting, but that time cap is garbage.

Then we tried the raid. Which has no checkpoints, so when we all got booted to orbit an hour in and had to try to make our way back to the first challenge room, we gave up and explored the ship for a while instead. Haven’t gone back in since (this was Sunday I believe).

The first Destiny was lacking story but had an ok grind to start which got better over time. Seems like D2 has flipped that, with a good story and then a completely boring grind once you hit a certain point. I even went back to D1 last night for half an hour and it just felt better with the Supers actually charging enough to use them well and being able to switch to weapons that actually make a difference in the gameplay.

So far I’m super disappointed and just hoping for some sweeping changes soon.

And about the comment on an Angry Joe video bringing out the haters: not saying you’re completely wrong because people do tend to follow popular hate online, but personally I don’t even know who that is, and if I had to guess he hit the same level cap that wakkawakka was talking about and that’s why the hate came about all at the same time. The first week+ was fun all around (except the crappy PvP), but then you hit the wall HARD and it just stops being as enjoyable. Just my two cents (maybe a nickel since I rambled a while).

Sounds like this guy has sunk dozens of hours into Destiny 2 despite there being nothing to do.
It took me 2 days to finish the story and an 2 weeks to get to my current power level of 292. 300s the max. I did all the side missions before I continued all the story missions. I've put around maybe 4 or 5 days of total hours into the game to get where I am and I'm bored.

I'd also like to point out that there's people who hit 300 in the first week by simply transferring gear from their 1st character to their 2nd an 3rd character. Bringing gear over makes the 2nd character power level instantly go up to where the 1st character hit the power level wall. Do the weekly missions, automatically get higher power level gear and infuse it then transfer it to the 3rd and repeat it. Then wait a week to do it all over again. There's no incentive to play after doing the weekly activities.

Hell people skip the exotic quests or the story missions quests and get to 20 first so that story mission gives a exotic weapon that's scaled to your power level and if you're already lv 20 an 290, you'll get a 299 exotic from the story mission. But again there's no incentive to be 300. It helps in 1 game activity that is the nightfall prestige an that's it.

So less than a week in an MMO and complaining about lack of content? Sounds normal for super-hardcore player, will take a while for normal people to even come close. I'm interested to try it when it hits PC and cheap, so probably whenever the bundle that includes the first expansions becomes a thing.

Edit to respond to the post about 2nd/3rd character leveling: So... cheating? Not explicitly, but pretty much. fuck off if you do that and then complain because you took shortcuts.

It may not be perfect, but I will say this - if I put as much time into many games as I have into Destiny 2 so far, I would have run out of things to do a long time ago. The cap is crap (can I copyright that?), but I think I've been playing this game a little harder that I would a game with more finite design. Part of the issue is the push to rush to endgame...and there's just not as much there yet as we had at the end of the D1 lifecycle.

That is a crazy hardline approach to cheating. Using an in game system is not an exploit. What is shared storage for, other than to give your alts a leg up on leveling?

*edit* Nevermind, I re-read the op and now I understand how some people are leapfrogging by passing on their current best gear, so the next character gets boosted above that. Ya, that's certainly closer to an exploit and definitely taking all the fun out of it. I should probably just go to sleep rather than starting an arguement. :)

Well, aside from enjoying it, my biggest complement to Destiny 2 is that I’ve already played it more than I did the first game over an entire year.

Maybe I’m not “hardcore” enough to think negatively of it at this point.

Reading wakkawakka's post, his arguments for not liking Destiny 2 seem valid and well thought out, if you invest that much time into something to find out how hollow it is, that's not fun.

I would only play the story and have no desire to play an MMO so I'd only pick it up for like $20 or less.

... and with one fell swoop Halo BC just pretty much killed Master Chief Collection.

However, Halo MCC is the only way to:

Play all games at 60fps

Halo 1 multiplayer online. Halo CE Anniversary just added maps to Halo Reach MP.

Halo 2 campaign and multiplayer. I'm assuming the campaign part will no longer be the case once OG BC is out.

Though Halo MCC did not have firefight for Halo 3.

It's a shame they can't update the game code/logic somehow to force unlocked frame rate to achieve 60fps when the X is out.

^ Excluding Reach (aka the GOAT), I sold all my 360 Halos after getting MCC. Kinda regret that now.

As far as I know, you can only transfer and use weapons between your characters. You can transfer armor, but you can't use any armor from another class to infuse your gear. I see no problem with this.

just wait when you hit the soft cap. All the gear you get will be useless. Only way of getting higher gear is through the weekly reset missions. A good majority of exotics are trash and not worth it to equip. Static weapon perks makes garbage weapons stay garbage. Going around each planet collecting tokens only to be given a RNG lower power level legendary piece without ejbg able to choose is a huge waste of time.

Can't choose pvp game modes like in destiny 1. All 4v4 maps. No 1v1 gun fights, just team shooting.

Assist kills appear as kills on your screen.

Nightfall having a timer is a horrible way of making it harder when the games about killing everything in front of you, not running or driving past it.

The raid gives more tokens than actual gear and it's not fun to play at all. If someone dies in the fire team, they have 30 seconds to revive the downed player or else eveeyobe dies. Everyone also only gets 1 revive. This is normal mode FYI. All old destiny 1 raids had unlimited revives on normal mode. Just had to wait for a 30 sec cool down to revive someone. All the raid armor doesn't have any unique raid armor perks to them. They're just for looks and if you want to infuse in it.

No weekly bounties like D1.
No fireteam icons on the map showing where your teammates are when you're on patrol.

A lot dedicated D1 players chased after God rolls, a good gun had perks to make the gun even better. They'd grind heroic strikes or Crucible for these guns.

OH yea no strike specific gear.
Strikes are a waste of time to play when public events give the same kind of loot at a fraction amount of the time it'd take you to finish 1 strike.

All the subclasses only have 2 skill trees to choose from and you can't customize any skill builds.

They took away any kind of customizing of gun perks and subclass skills customizing to balance pvp.

All there is to do at 280 power level is do the weekly stuff and get the "powerful gear" engrams from the respective npcs, hope you get something useful and use it or infuse it, and go play something else when that's done.

Destiny 2 at end game is literally just about who looks the best with all the shaders. Everyone's weapons are the same and all armor sets act exactly the same.

They brought back the most used exotic from destiny 1 and its all everyone uses in pvp now. The mida multi tool cause no other gun is nearly as good as it.

Bungie did great with the story and the initial content was very good after completing the story but around 260 is when things slow down and you're left with very little options left to choose from to get any higher. 280+ is basically the same as a 300. No difference at all and even being that high doesn't help in anything like the raid, trials, nightfall, etc. So to me an every other destiny player that played destiny 1 is very disappointed in this game.

They throw everything at you to make things as easy as possible, give you 2 exotics before even hitting lvl 20 and hand you 4 exotic quests to do without any effort into obtaining them.

Its just a matter of time before people find out how little there is at end game and trade this pile of dog shit in for battlefront 2.
You have a lot of valid concerns where Bungie has made some odd decisions. I fully expect them to fix some of these things in a quality of life patch in the near future. One of the things I miss about D1 is the excitement for getting a piece of gear you want and then seeing that it has 2 or 3 of the perks you have to have. I still remember when my Imago Loop dropped with Firefly and Explosive Rounds. It didn't have Outlaw, but that was good enough for me because I was a Hunter with the quick reload perk and had Hand Cannon reload gauntlets. And yes I know the irony of telling a story about strike-specific gear. :)

Other than resolution and framerate (which should at least be rock solid 30), every other aspect should be better in the BC version.

-Halo 3 and 4 will now have their full playlist selection with their individual ranking systems, instead of the mixed and one-per-game playlists of MCC. I'm pretty sure all the 360 Halo games still have healthy populations too.

-Halo 3 has full armor and emblem customization unlike the MCC version

-ODST's best in the series Firefight is now available.

Halo Anniversary is the only one that really has no benefit for playing the 360 version, unless you don't have Reach to access the multiplayer playlists. If MCC's online actually worked well it'd probably be better overall, but even then the limited playlists are a bummer if you really prefer one game over the others.

I'm a little over halfway through the original Nier on 360 now. Now that there is a lot of shit on screen at once, performance seems to be buckling, but I'm not sure if it's the game, my disc, or my console. When a lot is happening I get pretty minor frame drops, but major audio issues. Some kind of stutter in the sound. Then as I was wrapping up last night I was getting huge slowdown in the main town while nothing was happening.

I bought the disc used and it was moderately scratched up, but it installed on the HDD fine so I think that should mean it's not an issue. I don't see any real complaints about performance in general, so my next thought is that my 6 hour session on my 10 year old console may have been the culprit. Any thoughts?

I wish it would go BC but I'll probably be done by this time next week.

Anyone try installing Halo 3 from a disc yet? I keep getting an error saying it isn't playable

Edit: Never mind I restarted my Xbox and it works

It may not be perfect, but I will say this - if I put as much time into many games as I have into Destiny 2 so far, I would have run out of things to do a long time ago. The cap is crap (can I copyright that?), but I think I've been playing this game a little harder that I would a game with more finite design. Part of the issue is the push to rush to endgame...and there's just not as much there yet as we had at the end of the D1 lifecycle.
That’s a good point. The Vault of Glass wasn’t out for almost a month when D1 came out IIRC, and I didn’t even do it until after Crota DLC came out. Maybe having the raid drop in week 2 made everyone want to push for that high level super fast. Took some of the fun out of it.

Also, on the Halo news (which is awesome) - anyone know if Firefight from ODST is included? It says “Campaign Edition” and I’m pretty sure Firefight was usually included in that definition since it’s the same disc, but just curious if anyone has tried.

I'd rather not give any russian site any of my information directly.  I'll let Gamestop and Equifax do it for me instead.

Release of VoG was similar to release of raid here. D1 released on Sept 9, and my VoG raid achievement is dated Sept 20.

I think the issue is more that improvements in D2 made it easier for people to level up, and because most of us have played D1, we are smarter about how to level up faster. Back in D1, it was way grindier and way slower to level up.

I like the improvements in D2 and while I agree that the endgame content is lacking, I don't think slowing down our progression would've made it any better. Just more time consuming and painful. They need more content. There's a small number of PvP maps and only a handful of strikes here. And they don't incentivize people to try out all the adventures and lost sectors.

I'm not sure since you're buying currency instead exploiting a free glitch like the Oman Wars. I know alt accounts making legit purchases is allowed on PS4 and Switch, but I don't remember on Xbox.
I didn't look into the reddit thread, but if you can just add currency to your account then you're in the clear. If you have to provide a billing address where you don't receive mail, that's when you violate ToS and commit fraud.

We're talking about the language setting on xbox.com, which if you're still unclear is a US website owned and operated by a US company.

Can someone clarify something on the new Minecraft "Better Together" update for me? (I understand the cross play stuff.)

This "new" Minecraft downloaded automatically yesterday as a separate game entirely. Has a separate set of locked achievements and everything. Is this replacing the "Xbox One Edition" altogether? Will everything I've done in the "old" game worlds load into the new version?

The "XB1 Edition" has been removed and replaced by this one:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/store/p/minecraft/9NBLGGH537BL?rtc=1

FYI, disc owners have until 1/30 to grab the new version for free. No time limit for digital owners.

*Owners of a digital version of Minecraft: Xbox One Edition can download the new, updated game in the Xbox Store for free. Until January 30th, 2018, owners of the disc version of Minecraft: Xbox One Edition can download the new game once they have played Minecraft for 5 or more hours in the past 12 months OR purchased a DLC Pack.

Both versions will still exist but the old one won't be updated anymore. Your old worlds will import into the new version and since the new one has infinite worlds, they'll be converted to infinite worlds as well.

But yeah, they'll be treated as two different games with achievements.

Been doing Xbox Rewards for sometime, just now found out that preorders don't count towards your myVIP bonus. I don't do the preorders punchcard, I would get less back than the myVIP rewards. What a load.

Oh ok, thanks. I’m at work and didn’t have a chance to search the date (also being lazy since I have a 3 day weekend ahead haha). I thought VoG was in October but guess I was wrong. You’re right though, it was definitely more of a grind the first time around and now most of us are used to it so it went much quicker. Maybe Faction Rally next week will add something fun to do for a little while.

If you remember, you could not level up past 20 in Destiny and had to grind for better gear to increase your light level, which then increased your character level. Add in the many currencies and overall obfuscation of various aspects of that game and it was clear that it wasn't a fully-developed game, but one that was patched together from a great whole because they ran out of time to make the game they originally wanted.

Destiny 2 is like if they made a sequel with more content and the general Loot 2.0 concept of Diablo III UEE/Reaper of Souls of just giving people more loot to make the playing of the game more fun and enjoyable instead of a grind, unless you want that.

It should. The digital version came out with that name because physical had a separate disc with Halo 3's multiplayer. The bullshit disc that had the final Halo 3 DLC that was delayed by like 4 months to make ODST worth $60. Man, I forgot how bullshit the situation was when Bungie went independent in 2007.

-Mythic Map Pack held ransom in the Halo Wars collector's edition for a month.

-ODST announced as a downloadable Halo 3 expansion then "upgraded" to full a $60 release to fulfill one of the contracted Halo games they need.

-Mythic Map Pack II shown off in a Bungie Weekly Update fairly soon after Mythic 1, then delayed until ODST's release for above mentioned disc

Don't get me wrong, I love ODST, but it definitely should have been $40 at launch with no multiplayer and Firefight having major networking issues (lag and slowdown makes it near unplayable if players are physically far enough apart, say opposite ends of the US, or US to England like my group had, which is probably why it didn't have matchmaking either). At least they figured this out over the years, \Anniversary managed to release at $40 while piggybacking off of Reach's multiplayer.

No further updates for Xbox One Edition? That sucks because i definitely didn't care for the feel of Better Together. Felt like I was playing on a tablet or something

I was sure MS were announcing the 360 Halo games going BC this coming Monday when Halo 3 turns ten years old. I guess the October GWG announcement will come next week not this one (was hoping for today or tomorrow).

Good thing is that I will finally have the opportunity to beat the 360 version of ODST. Didn't get to play it until it came out as free DLC for the MCC.

Got Halo 3 downloaded, including like 500mb of saved maps and stuff (lol)

With campaign, initial load times seem a bit faster than I remember, with in mission loads are instant with no hiccups like you would sometimes see on 360.  It looks better than I expected, though some of that is being used to my 360 which didn't have HDMI. I think the art style holds up better than the more detailed style in Halo 4, which I was playing in MCC a couple weeks back.

Currently showing 1302 players online, the individual playlist counts were showing zero for all playlists, and now simply aren't showing anything at all in the menu. When actually searching I'm getting a number though (680 in Social Slayer, which is usually the most populated). Hopefully we do see a decent boost. 8 out of 10 players in my game were registered on Bungie.net, which you haven't been able to do for like 5 years, and we got wrecked pretty hard. Seems like it's only the hardcore guys that were still playing on 360 at the moment. That could just be from my rank too.

I only have 744 hours of Halo 3 played though (not counting time not connected to Live), so I'm no expert.

Edit:

I just tried Action Sack that shows Population 0 and found a game. It was only 3v3 instead of 4v4 though, so it must be low.

One more week of multiple 13 hour days in my program and things will quiet down. Been reading the thread but too busy for much else. I've been pushing buttons in the SoR collection for achievements.

BC announcement is good. If Lost Odyssey can be made digital, I don't understand why Halo CE 360 hasn't been.

The Lost Odyssey, the Dead Space sequels and Rage didn't have digital versions until they all went BC. Which makes the lack of a digital Halo CEA even more puzzling.
