Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
[*]Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
[*]Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Exclusives are more important than you guys are giving credit for. We've been in a bad drought for over a year, and there aren't really any signs of it getting better soon. There are like three announced exclusives for next year, and you can probably add Forza Horizion 4 to that. A lot of more casual players are going stick with the Pro or even just the default PS4 because of this alone.

I think the audience for X is fairly limited, and sales are going to tank after the holidays.

And that’s why I mentioned that it isn’t about casual gamers making a decision between PS4 and X1. To me this is for hardcore gamers who already know the differences in library. Think reviewers need to acknowledge that instead of putting so much emphasis on catalog.

People with 13-year-old gamers getting their first console need not apply.

I say this as someone who has a PS4 and openly acknowledges that the vast majority of my favorite exclusives are on the “dark side”.

As someone that owns a PS4 and an XBox One, I'm more leaning towards wanting a PS4 Pro more than a OneX. Majority of my third party games are on the One, mostly because PS4 didn't have external HDD at launch and because 360 was my favored console of the previous generation. Though in terms of exclusives, yeah they do matter and I rather play the ones PS4 have to offer because there's just more going on. Action, RPG, indie or whatever the PS4 has down and really only big one up Microsoft has over Sony is Forza since they can't seem to release a Gran Turismo in a timely manner and there's enough car racing sims that make things like Forza Horizon stand head over heels above them.

And in all honesty since PS4 is leading the console sales, I don't think I'll see too much of a difference from the Pro to the 1X since PS4 will be the lead console to design for. Also side note, I still can't tell the difference in 720p or 1080p let alone 4K unless you have them side by side and demand I spot the differences, I'm not going to be able to tell.

Halo 6 is also on the way, will be shocked if it's not finally mentioned at E3 next year, but another Halo game is just going to keep established folks happy, not sell new systems. I still think Microsoft abandoning Fable is one of the biggest mistakes they've made, they need more diversity in their exclusives than anything.

The list of games I wish I could play which are PS4 exclusive gets longer every month. If I wasn't a broke grad student, I'd have a PS4 and probably get more use out of it than my Xbox. If X1 didn't have BC, I would have just bought a PS4 and kept playing last-gen games I missed on my 360.

Then you must be one of the few that can't. Back in late 2013 and throughout 2014, everyone and their mothers claimed they could tell the difference between 1080p, 900p and/or 720p from 100 kilometers miles, away and even on 24-inch TV's. But now, stuff like 1440p, 1620p and/or 2160p sounds like kryptonian technology to some/most people.

And hey, I'm not taking a jab at YOU, I'm just pointing out how everything has changed in the last 3 years.

Oh, and just to circle back to the exclusive talk that has tagged along with the launch of the 1X, everything I've been and currently am interested in playing has, is and will be playable on my Xbox One (original, S and soon, X). I must be the weird one that is yet to found a reason to actually buy a PS4.

And hey, I'm not taking a jad at YOU, I'm just pointing out how everything has changed in the last 3 years.

Oh, and just to circle back to the exclusive talk that has tagged along with the launch of the 1X, everything I've been and currently am interested in playing has, can and will be playable on my Xbox One (original, S and soon, X). I must be the weird one that is yet to found a reason to actually buy a PS4.
Well, you are a doctor so I'll take your word for it.

Or if they brought back scalebound........ *sigh* I'd buy a one x to run that....

Played about an hour of the campaign on CoD WWII last night. It was phenomenal.

I think I got the sarge killed at one point and then couldn't unlock the door to the last bunker. Spent 10 minutes trying to figure out what to do. Being the problem solver I am I killed the entire squad with some grenades to restart from the last checkpoint. Then made sure the sarge survived.

The run where you save Zussman is pretty intense. One S&W M1911A, no reload without emptying a clip and swapping sidearms, no health regen, and dragging him to safety while getting ambushed.

Impressed with graphics on my vcr xbox and FHD TV. Acting is great too. Most video game acting makes it feel like a video game.

I was all "This $h!t is definitely FUBAR'D. We either make it out alive together or we die together. And today is not the day we die." Calm down. This is just a video game. Oh yeah, just a game.
You and Captain Brannigan would get along famously.

I bought a Gold PS4 1TB only to trade it in for a lacier White PS4 Pro, only for my nephew to stick that on his computer monitor so he could play CoDWWII. I bought into them to be able to play some of those exclusives, but I just can't get away from what I'm already playing.

TL;DR - I'm just glad someone is playing my PS4. :)

Agreed. We need more than a Fable-themed card game...

Anyone else playing NFS Payback? Shared my thoughts earlier but just curious if I was the only one checking it out. Gotta love these 10 hour before launch trials!

Hard to say if Halo 6 is next year. I want to think they learned from announcing Halo 5 too early with that meaningless desert poncho trailer that was not representative of the game at all, but I don't know if they have the balls to announced the game at E3 and have it out within 5 months. Even Halo Wars 2 was announced a year and half early. It wouldn't be that surprising though, with the acknowledgment that they announced many games way too early, like Crackdown 3 and Scalebound, I can see why they want to hold off on new stuff, but if anything Halo is not one that needs this treatment.

Beyond that, I don't think Halo is much of a system seller anymore. Virtually all the third-party shooters have become more popular that it, even just factoring in the usual Xbox top played. Looking right now these paid shooter games are above Halo 5:

-Rainbow Six Siege

-Destiny 2

-Black Ops III

-Overwatch

-Battlefield One

-Infinite Warfare

-Black Ops II (!)

CoD WW2 will obviously be on this soon, Battlefront 2 probably will be too, I'm sure PUBG will stay in the top 10 for a while, and you have a couple F2P contenders I left out with Warframe and FortNite BR, which is currently number one. Sure, Halo 5 is 2 year old, but all of those paid games except Destiny are at least 1 year old. The 343 games before Halo 5 hurt the reputation badly. As a side note, Gears 4 is a bit lower, under Ghost Recon Wildlands.

Agreed. We need more than a Fable-themed card game...
The card game would be a great supplement to a full game. Unlock things in the card game that correspond to a full game, etc. On it's own, it just feels like they're wasting the licensing, even if the card game is good (which it may very well be, I haven't bothered).

You're 100% right, but as the flagship franchise, Microsoft also isn't going to ignore it.

343 definitely has something to do with it, but the MP is very solid in Halo 5, there's just a lot more competition for shooters these days. A lot has changed since 2007 and Halo 3.

Those Halo 4 glitch games are still working. Any Achievement hunters may want to at least take advantage of the visual novels, you can find guides and otherwise would have to get a hold of imported copies.

Not working for me. Any time I try to launch any of the games, it asks if I own it and redirects to the store....even with the Halo disc in.

Not sure what I was thinking but rented The Dark Tower. What a piece of shit. Haven’t finished it yet, but not sure I will. Didn’t read the book. But have been on a bit of a Stephen King kick lately with It, Gerald’s Game and 1922 so figured I’d give it a shot. Sadly isn’t even close to as good as the two latter Netflix offerings.

I do believe the PS4 has great games, credit where credit is due. They simply don't pique my interest as much it does to others. And knowing me, I wouldn't and don't have time for more than one console. Is just a matter or preference and availability. That is all. No hate.

the PS4 has some great exclusives, but I much prefer the xbox, also sony controllers are dog shit
This, there's literally no reason I would choose to play with the PS controller over the Xbox controller, and that makes it a lot easier, with how much I game I want to use the controller I like the most. That said I do own all systems and use them for the exclusives, but Xbox is easily my most played.

The fact that Microsoft, through the beauty of an open market, has given players Backwards Compatibility (with those games getting the enhanced features like improved fps, resolution, etc), has the Xbox Game Pass (which is a giant bang for your buck of excellent catalog of diverse titles) still has the best online service Xbox Live (from party chat, game invite/clubs & LFG, the service is a quality online experience), ability to get early access or play EA's catalog through EA Access, given players Play Anywhere titles (which you can play Xbox games on Win 10 devices, checking out Xbox features & community activities on PC or on the go), has a 4K Bluray Drive, and the fact that every single game will run more efficiently, let alone patched to do even more, via new hardware yet they still get crapped on with the no exclusive angle. It's absurd and I'm not trying to beat my chest here, I'm just laying out how it is.

I drive a Hyundai Veloster Turbo and quite enjoy the machine - quite ironic considering since I live in the middle of nowhere the pickup truck is the vehicle of choice around here. If I were to review - and this is to show my point btw - the new Honda Civic Type R, I wouldn't say well the Hyundai Veloster Turbo is alright and all but the Type R gets better tires and therefore is better. ...cause that's how all these "reviewers" sound to me.

Phil said the X is not going to be the Xbox system that is most selling, that'll be the S. I like that they acknowledge that and I like their transparency now where Phil also mentions you know we sort of announced our exclusives too early in the past so they're not going to do that now. The pre-orders for the X were out of stock shortly after the pre-orders went live. The Nintendo Switch is selling gangbusters despite everyone's concerns from Wii U's failures. There's news about the Switch and Rockstar's L.A. Noire now that it'll require an external memory card because it's too big for the Switch's storage (it requires a 14GB day-one update, 1GB bigger than the entirety of Breath of the Wild, which is 13GB). Things will sell, there's a ton of people that play games now.

My 2 cents...

As of last night (early this morning), Disc 1 prompted me to install Halo 4 and Disc 2 wasn't recognized. I'm in the Alpha Ring if that matters.

If you plan on reading the series of DT books, you definitely did it in the right order as you would have been supremely disappointed in the movie if you had already read the book.

Just watched the Digital Foundry YouTube videos. The comments section there is literally cancer.
They should have shut down comments for those videos. In fact, no video on YouTube need comments, except for the Holly's Journey videos so that I can reply and say awwwwww.

It really wasn't that long ago where Sony was lacking in exclusives and didn't get the hate the x1 does now.  They went through a few holiday seasons with absolutely nothing but mind share exclusives, games like destiny and COD, and multiplat releases.  The only exclusive for the longest time that really panned out was Blood Borne.  I still find it hard to be interested in anything that is exclusive to the console aside from maybe Nier.  Regardless of what Sony is doing it would be great to see more than just Gears, Halo, and Forza over and over.  Games like Cuphead and Ori are great but they aren't tent pole titles.

Same here. Installed the game and nothing. There must be something we are missing. I wonder if it doesn't work for people in the preview program maybe?

Well, I love Nier: Automata, Horizon Zero Dawn, Persona 5 and Nioh just from this year alone. But I STILL prefer my Xbox One for everything else. Buy almost every multiplat on X1 even if PS is getting exclusive content.

I just love the controller, the community, Xbox Live and completely agree with the notion that Microsoft has been doing a ton of stuff for users including BC and EA Access, which stupidly Sony thinks isn’t a “value” for their players.

Ditto as well. I have nothing against the PS4 just doesn't have anything I want to play on it. The only reason I would get one is to play my anime related/Japanese games. Other then that I'll stick to my XB1.

Sony gets a HUGE pass from the gaming community (players and reviewers) when it comes to things like this. This year has arguably been PS4's best in terms of exclusives, but you never heard about the "poor" years they had from launch until now. Like you said, even having just one exclusive through the holidays, they could get away with an easy pass just because it's PlayStation/Sony. Now, all of a sudden, reviewers care more about the lack of exclusives from the Xbox (even though it's supposed to be a hardware review), and "gamers" decide resolution doesn't matter.

As for the PS4 exclusives, I don't want to sound racist but, most of the exclusives are Japanese-style games that I have no interest in. Games like Nioh, Nier, Persona or the Souls series really hold no appeal to me. The only game that I can think of that I would play is Horizon Zero Dawn, but that's it.

Update, I just fast fowarded my way to 885 gamescore in Stein's Gate in about an hour. Clannad looks like it's a lot more involved based on it's guide so I probably won't mess with that one.

I don't want to delete and reinstall to see if it will prompt me to download again, but it sounds like maybe the fix is already in the pipeline if preview members can't access them, I am not in the preview ring, just Xbox Insider whatever. I don't seem much discussion about this around, a few people saying it didn't work but without saying if they're in the preview program or not.

A couple more 360 games are showing X enhancements, Mirror's Edge and Skate 3. EA must be on board.

I've found I prefer achievements to trophies, and digital content is organized wayyyy better on X1 (and 360) than it ever was on PS3. No experience using the PS4, but the Ready to Install works great.

I've always preferred Dual Shock, though, but the 1S controllers are very nice.

I feel the exact same way AWP I recently bought a ps4 pro and have a small backlog of games including P5,Nioh,Nier A and HZD but still the fact remains that I LOVE MY XBOX.

Also, the first third of StarCraft II will go F2P soon.

Anyone here got a TCL Roku 4k HDR TV? In the market for a 4k TV and a Roku but since TCL got both and for cheap, I may consider it.
I have the 43" Sharp Roku TV in my office upstairs, so it is has been used sparingly (~6 hours a week on average). I've had it for 15 months, and the LCD panel is already going out (the right half has a strong blue tint to it now). I don't know if TCL and Sharp use the same components, but definitely do your research.

Or you could just get any 4K and an X and have little use for a Roku to begin with!

ALL of this. Perfect.

Especially the Japanese games comment. Not for me. fuck those games. I'm good with Gears. You can keep Flying Horatu Mokadoshi 7 or whatever the fuck those weirdos masturbate to over in Sonyland.

Still salty as hell over Spidey being exclusive to PS4. Insomniac can eat a fat one for that. Even an Xbox exclusive Sunset Overdrive 2 wouldn't heal that wound.

But I absolutely must own a PS4 Pro for God Of War and The Last Of Us 2. Gotta have it. I'll pick one up at that point.

We use our bro-in-law Xfinity account since we cut the cord for awhile now and Roku has an Xfinity app which accesses more networks and live streams not found on the Xbox sadly. The misses watches a lot of shows on Xfinity not found on any apps on Xbox, so I was thinking of getting a really cheap 4k with Roku for her, while I do Xbox things on another TV lol. First world problems.

I had both a 360 and PS3 last gen. I played my 360 a lot more even though I got the PS3 a year before the 360.

I think MS just fucked the launch up REALLY bad. Simple as that. $100 more for a Kinect that you HAD to have. Slightly less specs. Whatever they were trying to do with digital games to many it looked like eliminate the ability to trade or tack on some stupid fee through Game Stop. And yes MS backed off this before the launch. Neither had jack shit for exclusives at launch.

Just was a hard sell for me to pay $100 more for slightly less specs and having to hook up the Kinect which I really didn't want. I was in a 1 bed room apartment with enough clutter on the TV in living room.

Had they come out at $399 with the Kinect being optional I think they would be dead even if not maybe even slightly ahead of Sony. I would have seriously considered the XBox One at launch. But for $100 premium it was a non starter for me.

4 years in though I think it is fair to talk about exclusives and MS canceled a bunch this year. There are a few exclusives on BOTH systems I really like.

Honestly if it wasn't for Gears 4 I might not have bought my first XBox One last year. Oddly enough I don't really play much Gears 4 and but play a lot of FH3 and a bit of FH2 and I hate driving games typically.

Yup, same here. I just bought a destiny 2 ps4 pro bundle in september. Why? Several reasons, but none of them have to do with preferring ps4 over xb1.

1. I love white consoles

2. I didn't have a current gen console because I had sold my Xbox One S in preparation for the Xbox One X

3. The big PS4 exclusives, particularly the "Pro Enhanced" titles: Last of Us, Horizon Zero Dawn, Wipeout

Anything that is not exclusive to PS4 is going to be played on my 1X

I mean if you were a person buying a console this gen you are way better off buying a PS4 than Xbox it's just how it goes this gen, the announcement and original focus of the Xbox One is what killed all of it hype on release and I still believe have yet to recover from it market-wise. But that's just my opinion, I bought an xbox one s for it's 4k Player and BC Compatibility

A better Xbox One X review over at Gamespot, compared to that one I read over at The Verge.
https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-one-x-review-a-more-future-proof-console-for-/1100-6454609
Kind of surprised reviewers were not able to compare something like Assassin’s Creed Origins between PS4 Pro and the X. Apparently should be one of the games that most takes advantage of the X enhancements and the update is out, right? I mean many reviews were played on the X.

And COD: WW 2 also has it’s update out. Surely games like these would (or should) have been made available for X reviews.

Disappointing to not hear much on the differences between multiplats between the Pro and X when I think they’d probably surely favor the X with native 4K.

According to Digital Foundry at least, they said that even though they have had the console for around a week or so, the finalized X codes for those games weren’t available for most of that period. I assume we’ll be seeing more comparisons on a per-game basis from next week when most of the patches are out.
