Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

After initially thinking I would try to get an X fairly soon, I've come to terms with the fact it's really not necessary since I have a Pro. I was a strict XB1-first player but had a PS4 for The Show and other exclusives. I upgraded to a Pro when The Show announced it would take advantage of it so since then I've switched a lot of third party franchises over to Sony since they look and run better. Sure the X should be even better but the difference is minimal and while I do prefer the XB1 controller it's just not worth it to me yet.

And yes, it didn't hurt that this was the year of the PS4 as far as I'm concerned with exclusives. Holy shit did they ever crush it this year.

How are you determining that the difference is minimal?

I wish Digital Foundry had more employees or something. All this X coverage has meant they haven't touched the OG Xbox BC. Hopefully they're working on DF Retro about it or something.

360 games are noticeably better on the X than S.

Anyone else playing NFS Payback? Shared my thoughts earlier but just curious if I was the only one checking it out. Gotta love these 10 hour before launch trials!
Just played about an hour of it. It definitely seems much better than the last couple entries in the series. I'll probably pick it up sometime.

Doing some searching and really annoyed by the lack of information on WHEN release patches will be made for those games that are supposed to get X enhancements. Aside from AC: Origins, FIFA 18 (which seems like a waste of time to enhance from what I’ve seen) and first party titles has anything else come out with updates?

I guess I wrongly assumed that at least bigger releases around the X launch date like COD would have been ready to go.

Edit: it all boils down to my incredible lack of patience!!!

Edit2; Just found an article from last week that said there should be 70 available at launch. But no list of which ones.

http://www.gamesradar.com/xbox-one-x-will-have-around-70-enhanced-games-for-launch-week-says-microsoft/

This, there's literally no reason I would choose to play with the PS controller over the Xbox controller, and that makes it a lot easier, with how much I game I want to use the controller I like the most. That said I do own all systems and use them for the exclusives, but Xbox is easily my most played.
You know they sell adapters let you use your Xbox controller on your PS4. Mine was only about 20 bucks and works great. Game changer!

I thought Mirror's Edge was expected.
Not even a Catalyst enhancement patch was confirmed.

For 360 games, only 4 were announced (halo 3, oblivion, fallout 3, assassin's creed), and known to feature 9x pixel count. Those videos certainly look fantastic.

But we didn't know about any other title (aside from general performance improvements), or what enhancements would be in place.

If this is real, Major Nelson is going to be bombarded by "RDR in 4k, plz" tweets

Forgive me Bloomy, for I have sinned. It has been 3 weeks since my last confession.

In my defense, $80 for 20 games is $4 each, so I'm technically within my $5 limit. I'll be on a nostalgia trip while everyone else is salivating over the X1X.

In regards to those passionate about games owning both, I have owned both at different times. I got a PS4 the night it launched (I was writing for a PlayStation-centric website at the time). While I was initially excited to have a next-gen system, I feel that the PS4 was honestly the reason I had to take an almost two year break from gaming.

* The controller is horrid. Absolutely horrid.

* The store and menu are very poorly laid out.

* PSN as a service is trash.

* Outside of Resogun, I never felt that the games that came with PS+ were worth it (at the time anyway)

* PS Now is a joke of an excuse for backwards compatibility

* The allegedly revolutionary ability to use the Vita as a screen/controller never worked well for me. I could be sitting in the same room with the system and I would get connection errors.

* The controller is horrid (needed to be mentioned twice)

Honestly, if it had not been for Infamous and The Last of Us I wouldn't have kept the system as long as I did.
While Microsoft clearly screwed the pooch out of the gate with the One, I always knew I would get a One if I was to come back to gaming based on what MS was doing to make up for their initial mistakes. I haven't been disappointed, especially since Sony doesn't see the "value" in providing services to gamers, most notably EA Access.

As of this week, I own an Xbox One S
and a Switch. I will eventually upgrade to a One X after I get a 4K TV. I will never own a PS4, even if that means missing The Last of Us 2. That is why they made YouTube.

Forgive me Bloomy, for I have sinned. It has been 3 weeks since my last confession.

In my defense, $80 for 20 games is $4 each, so I'm technically within my $5 limit. I'll be on a nostalgia trip while everyone else is salivating over the X1X.
I’m with you. Right now I’d rather have FF3, Secret of Mana and Super Metroid than anything slated for the rest of the year.

As a owner of most systems most of the time

Disagree with the controller don't feel it's any worse than the one

strongly disagree on the store (I use a computer for shopping) I not only find it mostly fine (with a few exceptions) it's infinite better than whatever the Hell xbox has going on for shopping

no real opinion on the online services as I don't play multiplayer

gwg is better by far than ps plus titles imo on a regular basis with the exception of a very rare and very good psplus surprise

since I own a ps3 I can't really say much about BC because I have a lot of the old ps 1/2 games on there

still don't really have a favorite because both have pros and cons that I really enjoy and that really annoy me

I do believe the PS4 has great games, credit where credit is due. They simply don't pique my interest as much it does to others. And knowing me, I wouldn't and don't have time for more than one console. Is just a matter or preference and availability. That is all. No hate.
I had both PS4 and Xbox 1, but I sold my PS4 - there just weren’t many exclusive games that appealed to me, I didn’t care for their online service, I hated the controller and I got really tired of having to update the machine every time I did want to play something. That being said, I would think that most people who could afford both would get them both for the flexibility of playing anything that came out.

Congrats! Outside of multiplayer dailies and weeklies, I've only been playing random classics via this prior to getting my One X next week.

Just from what's out there now. And I was only speaking in the short term as I expect the gap to hopefully widen a bit to make it more tempting. Oh and having a data cap doesn't help me either.
Aren't data caps a bitch? I'm getting the X on Monday, and since I never owned a One before, I have a lot to download. I've got six games on disc, but one is Halo 5 so that right there is a 50gb patch for one game. I've been slowly buying games digitally as they go on sale, so that's more bandwidth gone. And last but certainly not least, since I haven't played anything this gen, the Game Pass is an obvious choice for me. Which means so much more bandwidth gone just like that. And of course since I just got a 4K TV I have to get all the 4K assets to make my purchase worthwhile.

So played a bit more of NFS Payback and there are some Burnout-ish races/pursuits so I’m happy. The whole game isn’t like that but, hey, I’ll take what I can get.

Had they come out at $399 with the Kinect being optional I think they would be dead even if not maybe even slightly ahead of Sony. I would have seriously considered the XBox One at launch. But for $100 premium it was a non starter for me.
It might be close in the US thanks primarily to Xbox Live, but with the power edge the PS4 had out the gate and factoring in Europe and Japan, Sony would most likely have a sizable edge worldwide.

Don't think I haven't noticed your posts mentioning buying things over the $5 limit. But I'm sorry, that's too much for a single expenditure. For your penance, that'll be 2 Our Fathers, 3 Hail Marys and I'll be PMing you my address so you can ship it to me.

Congrats on tracking one down.

ONE OF US! ONE OF US! ONE OF US!

Though still not as hot as the UK SNES...

I regret selling my Earthbound cart for $80 years ago so when I saw this coming out for $80 it seemed like a no brainer just to get Earthbound back. Welcome to the SNES mini club.

I mentioned this earlier but I sold my SNES Classic to put the money toward the X. Liked it but I knew I’d be playing an X way more.

After telling me in Chat on Sunday night and Wednesday night that I had their Pre-Order Guarantee, that I was locked in for November 7th... Amazon now tells me that my Xbox One X pre-order will not come until November 9th.

On Chat now.

EDIT: Amazon upgraded my shipping to One-Day shipping, which somehow put me back on track for November 7th.  They gave me $10 in Amazon credit for my trouble.

I'm kinda confused about these 1X enhancements...

So if I get this right, even though we dont own a 1X, we still have to download the enhancements in order to play the game, like regular updates?

I have my updates as automatic, I have no bandwith limits, but I dont feel like filing up my external with heavy enhancements for games I hardly play. I might need to uninstall a bunch of games then?

If I go to MyGames tab and drop down the 1X enhancements tab, I do see some games there. I assume I've automatically downloaded assets for those games already?

I have a 1S so it's nice to get the HDR on some games but I dont really want to download upgrades for every possible game I have installed and want to play.

My 3DS already plays basically all of these games through one way or the other, but it just isn't the same. I'll be enjoying it for awhile.

It's like cap and trade. ME1 was only $2 so that gave me $3 to spare towards something else!

The inventory search for Target showed 4 in stock but they were all in the back. When I told the guy I knew they had some in stock he smiled like it was a secret. Seems worth it to me since it's essentially future-proofing these games (and whatever others you... manage to get running on it) for modern displays, and since it's an official product with real controllers, it's the next best thing to original hardware.

The controllers feel great, basically identical to the originals.

I've always preferred the US model and didn't understand why people think it's so ugly, but I do prefer the multi-color buttons on the UK controllers.

Rise of the Tomb Raider got an X update today. Saw that comparison with the PS4 Pro and it’s amazing. Damn I cannot wait until midnight Monday!

Actually didn’t even know that Xbox One Enhanced Games drop down existed. See Diablo and Need for Speed Payback in there too. Why isn’t AC: Origins in there? I thought that had an update a few days ago? I know it’s now HDR even on the S.

The US one just had so many angles on top of angles and lines that it felt like too much going on. There's just a weird simplicity to the one everyone in Europe and Japan got. Also the colored buttons do help alot, the only leg up the US got over everyone else is the X and Y buttons are concaved, which is a nice little random design. I Don't think I'd care as much either, but having them side by side brings a weird world of choosing favorites.

Update, I just fast fowarded my way to 885 gamescore in Stein's Gate in about an hour. Clannad looks like it's a lot more involved based on it's guide so I probably won't mess with that one.

I don't want to delete and reinstall to see if it will prompt me to download again, but it sounds like maybe the fix is already in the pipeline if preview members can't access them, I am not in the preview ring, just Xbox Insider whatever. I don't seem much discussion about this around, a few people saying it didn't work but without saying if they're in the preview program or not.

A couple more 360 games are showing X enhancements, Mirror's Edge and Skate 3. EA must be on board.

https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/comments/7ak0wx/360_mirrors_edge_and_skate_3_are_now_x_enhanced/
I'm in the preview program and figured that is why I wasn't able to see the games. I'm sure by now they have patched it.

Oh yeah of course to each their own. I just think the vast majority of the things that have been seen aren't even patched games.

They're only mandatory on the 1X. For the other systems, there's an option in settings that downloads the assets for you. It doesn't do anything on the other systems though

It's still confusing IMO. If that 14 GB Halo 5 patch that's mandatory on my S truly has nothing to do with the X that's fine and I'll chalk it up to coincidence. I would think a 4K patch would be larger anyway.

Yeah there's the option to check a box in Updates and backup settings to automatically download 4k enhancements, which was unchecked, but checking it or not seems to make no difference, as it doesnt make any update appear.

I have FIFA 18, Halo 5, Titanfall 2 and Fallout 3 that all appear under the "enhanced" tab already. I know those games have received updates in the last few days, but if I go to "manage game" they dont seem big enough to be holding those 4k assets. Thus, why I'm confused to whether I've downloaded them already or not.

Anyone know what the size of Halo 5 is once the assets are downloaded?

The Xbox One X existing in the Xbox family helps out the OG One and Xbox One S. It's been said that while developers work and optimize their game for the X, they've found the XB1 & XB1S versions see the improvements as well. So yeah if you're getting updates on the other two systems then you're most likely getting improvements or tweaks over all, not 4K assets. We're seeing HDR updates for those with the S as well.

FYI Halo Wars 2 got a 4K UHD & HDR Xbox One X update as well as crossplay with Win 10 PCs.

Patch notes would be really nice to actually be able to see what an update is doing.

Yeah, the Rise of the Tomb Raider update was 31.44 GB.

I just remembered, if you do LB+RB+"back" when highlighting a game, you can see the assets installed.

I dont know what the new assets are called, but I dont think I have them as the assets appear to be the same as every game.

I assume if the games appear under "enhanced" its at least because I could download the assets if I was a future owner of the 1X, but it seems I cant in any way.

Anyoen that has Gears 4 with 1X assets downloaded could check their game with the LB+RB+"back", and we could all know what these assets are called.
