Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

The Super Lucky's Tale reviews are all over the place. Ign gave it a 5 (which is incredibly low for them) and they complain about poor controls and crappy camera. The Destructoid review is really positive says it controls great and doesn't even mention the camera. The other reviews I looked at all seem to be slightly positive on it. I love platformers but I'll probably wait and pick it up during January and February when I'm through with some of the bigger games.

Gamespot gave it a 6 as well. Disappointed. Had hoped it really would have been a classic. Still getting it as I ordered it long ago with some Amazon promo credit.

Thing that sucks is that Sony fanboys will be laughing at the that it’s seen as a launch title for the X. And not only is it not a console pushing title, it’s getting pretty mediocre reviews.

Lol, Super Lucky's Tale isn't a system seller and falls inline with Microsoft's diverse line up. Families, significant others and kids will play that game - often I find that demographic doesn't even look at review scores.

A lot of Sony IPs are big triple A games and thus they take a while developing. The indie scene has really picked up lately, on XB1, PC, PS4 & Switch to be honest. I'd classify Super Lucky's Tale in the "indie" side of things as it started out as a VR project.

Amazon has their free $5 credit for installing their browser extension again. Can't apply it to digital items, but helpful if you're buying a physical game soon. Here's the slickdeals post with the instructions:

You can also apply it to a PUBG preorder, since that's a digital code inside a physical case.

Looks like Super Lucky's Tale goes on the Ryse/Sunset Overdrive/Quantum Break pile. An "exclusive" that is competent but does absolutely nothing to move the needle, and won't be remembered in 3 months.

I hope Crackdown is good. I have some doubts, but I also had doubts about the first one and I fucking loved that once it came out.

tried multiple times on multiple browsers

no 5 bucks or anything about 5 bucks for me

followed instructions

Forgive me Bloomy, for I have sinned. It has been 3 weeks since my last confession.

In my defense, $80 for 20 games is $4 each, so I'm technically within my $5 limit. I'll be on a nostalgia trip while everyone else is salivating over the X1X.
Wrong! Bad! Shame!

Enjoy!

Ironically, that was the promotion that I used to get another $5 off Super Lucky’s Tale at Amazon a few months ago.

did it work for you again today? It worked for me 3 times this year, including today.
Really? I’ll have to give it a shot.

Edit: can’t get it to work again

Saw Bubsy got really trashed so guess shouldn’t feel to bad about that being on PS4.

It boggles my mind so many people complain about the ps4 controller. What exactly would you want changed?
I personally just like the form factor of the Xbox One controller. Grip is great for my hands at least. Weightier. Better triggers. Sticks feel more well constructed. Other than the light and touchpad, which can be nice for certain games, the X1 controller just feels more solid to me.

Albert Penello, Head Marketing on Xbox, on Podcast Unlocked 320 says they're working on the delays of the Xbox One X updates and if you're curious about a game then load it up. If there's an update available you'll be prompted to download it. It's kinda a thing with how they designed Xbox Live.
http://feeds.ign.com/ignfeeds/podcasts/xbox360/

It's also a good listen. There some good stories there along with some Xbox One X origin info.

The Enhanced games tab is available on the Xbox One S to show which games you currently have that will see performance improvements on the X, if in-fact you upgrade sometime down the line.

get rid of the light bar, make the controller bigger, offset sticks, different grips on the analog sticks that don't peel off, triggers that dont get stuck, etc. Its better than the dualshock 3, but the dualshock 3 was amazingly bad

For the life of me, I do not understand why Sony does not release a high-quality first-party wireless asynchronous analog stick layout controller like that of Microsoft's Xbox for $60 as an alternative to the DualShock 4.

The controller itself is easily Xbox's biggest, longest-standing success. Everyone but Sony has aped it: Android devices, Nintendo Switch, Amazon Fire TV, etc, etc, etc. Its how we game on PC when using controllers; the layout is everywhere....except on PlayStation. For the most part, these companies just took the Xbox 360 controller, put their own innards in it, and people are happy.

Simply from a marketing perspective, Sony should unveil a $60 wireless first-party controller that mirrors that of the Xbox One to take away a successful differentiator of its competitor. Stop with the $120 officially-licensed wired third-party controllers; go mainstream - and leave consumers with one less reason to choose Xbox over PlayStation.

it's because Sony refuses to copy competitors designs and they have a lot of self respect to stick with something they've made and has stayed the same since 1995 or ps1 Era. Japanese have a lot of honor in what they create so for them to copy a competitor means great disrespect to themselves.

So why did Nintendo copy the Xbox controller with their Pro controller.

How do you explain trophies, then?

I think it's simply that Sony is afraid of scarying some of its userbase away if they change the design of the DualShock too much. At its most basic, it's still an iteration of the SNES controller.

hahaha nice, but most people require the /s

Been looking at the xb1x i will wait when they have a game exclusive for it so far every thing u can get i got it on the xb1s
You'll be waiting for a long time. Xbox is structured as one platform with multiple devices that all have the ability to render Xbox games at some level. The X1X is the Cadillac option, that has the best graphics capabilities. Phil Spencer has said there will not be device exclusives, just varying performance benchmarks. At some point, like 3-5 years from now, there probably will be games that run so poorly on the OG X1 that developers only want to release them for X1X. We will hear about games in development that the devs didn't want to release half assed versions of for legacy consoles and decide to drop Xbox as a platform. We will also have a string of lazy, poorly optimized versions for older consoles - similar to the games that launched for 360 and X1.

Eventually, there will be games that can't be downsized for older architecture and we will have device exclusivity. As I pointed out tho, that is against their stated design philosophy so I think it will be delayed as long as possible. I don't think that possibility extends much past 5 years, if they can even hold out that long.

I want that friggin' option button moved somewhere else. I keep on pressing the pad in the middle thinking I'm pressing the option button. I have always preferred the xbox controllers, but I will say the ps4 controller is a huge improvement over past playstation controllers.

Which completely explains trophies! O:)

In other words you are saying Sony is a stubborn mule? ;)

I am not sure this is the reason for not changing the design. It probably comes down to Sony spent a lot of R&D money developing the controller. I played on a Playstation 4 a while back and I did not have any issues with the controller. I prefer the XBox controller, but that is the system I mainly play video games on so that is no surprise.

wait what...which $120 officially-licensed wired third-party controller? The only officially-licensed wired third-party controller worthy of owning is the Horipad FPS Plus controller imo and it's only around $50 afaik...I didn't know PS had a controller over $100 o_O gosh I love that thing, saves sooooooo much time during trophy boosting parties, wish they made 1 for XB1! Hori only makes the regular Horipad for XB1 =(

I have both systems & yes I do like the XB controller layout more, hence all my 3rd party PS controllers have the XB layout on them. The only time I buy a 1st party PS controller is if it's a limited edition one.

I have the Halo 4 LE box somewhere but couldn't find it for the life of me =( I guess the Halo 4 disk glitch for all those additional games for disks 1 & 2 are patched by now =(

Wow a 41.5 GB patch for Halo Wars 2 and I don't even have 4k assets turned on... Did I have to reinstall the entire game!?

Good thing my neighbor's internet doesn't have a data cap!  :^o

my hands must be the perfect size for both controllers because i never notice a difference for longer than 5 seconds
Same here. I own all 3 systems and use the Dualshock 4, the Xbone controller, and the Switch Pro controller regularly and they all work great. If I had to pick a favorite it would be the Dualshock 4 but I'm fine with all of them.

Speaking of controllers, something terrible has happened. I've been playing Xbox so regularly, I've pressed the 'X' button on the SNES when I meant to press 'Y' on more than on occasion.

I'm horrified and ashamed.

It seems every Halo Wars 2 patch involves reinstalling the entire game. It’s annoying because it seems to be the only game that does that.

I for one can't stand the PS4 controller. My fingers keep slipping off the triggers. I love how Xbox's curve around vs Playstation's which narrow off at the end. Totally agree with the notion its an upgraded PS1 era controller.

And lets not fool ourselves. Sony copies others just like MS and Nintendo does, they're all businesses. PS copied the joystick, rumble, motion controls(PS Move), achievements(trophies), etc to name a few. Everyone tries to improve upon others designs.

That said, I prefer Xbox over Playstation. I like my shooters and bang-bang games vs ones that have a little more "Japanese" flavor to them. Just my preference in games. Nintendo is obvious second. Mario, Zelda, Metroid, F-Zero, Mario Kart, etc don't have that Japanese-game feel I was referring to. Could be the nostalgia talking. Eh whatever, end rant

Still waiting for shipping confirmation for my X from Microsoft. Really salty that they haven't shipped it yet and worried I won't have it Tuesday

Controllers are the #1 reason why I didn't buy particular consoles. Seriously, these are the reasons why I bought Playstations:

Forced to use that analog stick (which didn't feel comfortable to begin with), and it's in the center making it awkward to hold. Plus I would push those C buttons thinking they were normal buttons.

Another one that was hard to hold due to size and weight. And what's the deal with the black and white button?

Since Playstation controllers (which eased me into using analog sticks) echoed the layout of the Super Nintendo, I was hooked. If the Xbox 360 kept "The Duke" controllers, I never would have bothered with it.  The only downside I see to Playstation controllers are the inability to change batteries if they die. I'm fortunate that it hasn't happened, but I am very happy that the 360 controllers lets me use batteries so I never have to worry about that problem.

I Keep fucking myself over in Super Metroid because of how my lizard brain can't comprehend that A is jump instead of B. Like my whole brain can't figure out the controller randomly and I have to reassign to my brain that it's A and not B.

That's not an issue for me, since the left/lower portion of the 4-button diamond has always felt natural for the lower button (B) to jump and the upper left button (Y) to perform actions, ever since SMW and Mega Man X. It feels natural playing the Mega Man Legacy Collection on Xbox, and it feels natural 25 years later on the SNES.

It's the button prompts for save states which I kept Shaq'ing. 'Press Y to save progress!' I did it wrong 5 times in a row and couldn't figure out why. That's when the shame set in.

Sony was pretty blatant in the original Dual Shock's design stealing being inspired by the SNES controller, but at least had the decency to use completely different buttons. There are 22 other letters in the alphabet!!

I Think playing Nintendo onward from SNES to the DS and 3DS and all the classic controller types for Wii and WiiU helped prepare me for the weird switcharoo that XBox did. That part is a weird second nature to me, while jumping controls in modern platformers has now traumatized me and I almost feel I can't go back.

And I decided to start Resistance 2. II HAVE SO MANY DAMN GAMES TO GO THROUGH AND I'LL ONLY BUY MORE. LIFE IS HARD! And holy shit iron sights are on L1?? Modern gaming!

I know all a lot of you guys are buying PUBG at launch - but remember it should have a 60 minute trial, as is the standard with all games in the Game Preview program.

Might be a good idea to check it out first in case it is a broken mess.

Has anyone seen any really good deals on like a 4TB external hard drive? Most seem to be around the $105-$110 mark. Would love to find one under $100.

Yup, you're downloading the entire game again. Nope, you may not play the game without a disc is you bought a physical copy. I am beyond pissed on the latter. I mean fuck, that's the whole reason why I bought it from B&M.

They've been a Best Buy Deal of the Day a few times I think on one occasion the 4TB Seagate was about $80 or so I think the WD MyBook has gone as low as $90 or so? If anything I'd wait until Black Friday because worst comes to worst the 4TB MyBook always goes on sale for $100 at worst.
