Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
[*]Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!

Warning to those thinking of Romancing Saga 2. Was reading some reviews of it on Steam saying it’s a bad port of the mobile version. No full screen, button issues... And one reviewer said Square did a great job with other mobile to PC ports so just sounds like they were lazy this time.

Think I’m holding off and will get the iOS version when it has a decent sale (currently is “on sale” for $14.99 but think that is only due to the PC/console launch and isn’t much of a discount over the $17.99 normal price).

I think people argue that little to nothing will happen and it’s just a way for politicians to say they kept a promise and actually did something they intended to do. As mentioned, there’s way more competition on the internet marketplace than there was when rules were put in so paywalls should be met with exodus.
There is almost NO competition. I am lucky to have both FiOS and Altice (formerly cablevision) as an option. Neither has caps and FiOS really delivers 50/50. 4 or 5 years ago when I last had Cablevision it sucked during primetime. Slowed down to a crawl. Too many apartments on a single node. FiOS wasn't an option so they didn't give a fuck. Apartment complex finally made a deal with FiOS and I bet half the people switched as did I. The last 6 months or so I was there we switched back to Cable. It wasn't trash like it was when I had it before. Probably partly because half the complex moved to FiOS but probably also because they had to fix their shit now that there was a real second option.

Many parts of my town can NOT get FiOS nor can two towns over. They take what the cable company gives them or maybe subscribe to slow Frontier DSL.

How many option do you really have? I don't count LTE.

Is not that totally the point of Game Preview? I'd imagine it's pretty relaxed on anything like "certification". Just out of curiosity do you know what system the player was using? I've played probably 50 or so matches by this point and have never had a crash or a game breaking bug yet. There is one guy I run squads with that is on the OG Xbox One and he's had a handful of crashes, one time he somehow got stuck inside a wall which was pretty funny. Everyone else I run with has the X so I wonder if it can be traced back to that.
I am on the S and get crashes pretty often, no idea what my other squadmates were using, and I understand its game preview but a game that does not run seems like a big problem to sell for money, preview or not

One of the challenges for me in Forza Horizon 3 Forzathon didn't unlock this morning.  The other 3 did.

20 speeds in a buggy.  Did it in the Hot wheels buggy.  Counted them off after doing some of the other challenges and the race.  Still didn't pop.  Put up the achievement tracker and used the buggy you win for winning the race.  Did 4 or 5.  0% progress.

Guess they put the B team on Forzathons for FH3.

It is just crappy wheel spins and they might unlock later still annoying.

If ANY ISP tries to deny or stifle access to ANYTHING, there would be such an outcry that they would be forced to reverse said action almost immediately.
My thing is that ISPs don't have to be that obvious about it. And if they do something, you can bet that it will be framed in a positive way. "We're not slowing access for all users; we're boosting speeds for x and y services for platinum users" (or whatever). Also, I never underestimate average consumers when it comes to not knowing what's going on. I think with the vast majority of people, anything short of walling off Facebook and Netflix for a fee is not going to be enough to provoke outrage.

I like the philosophy behind a smaller government, but the problem is that in many ways, a smaller government now means trusting corporations not to be assholes. Like with net neutrality - everyone's argument now is basically "Come on, they would never do that because everyone would get pissed," etc. That may be true, but do we really want to trust corporations to make up their own rules? I think that's a bad idea about 99% of the time and history is littered with proof of that fact.

Random thought related to all this talk about net neutrality/throttling/data caps and recent gaming issues -- what if this leads to increased consumer demand for single player/offline games...
Finally, a silver lining!

I have a feeling that end users are less likely to see huge changes and Comcast/Verizon/etc are more likely to pull shakedowns with companies that rely on connectivity. If it all goes through, Verizon can ask Microsoft (or Netflix, etc) for more money to make sure their services are speedy. Comcast tried that with Netflix years ago and were throttling speeds, and were ultimately told it wasn't legal to do that. Now it is. Ultimately, that means cost of those services goes up.

Exactly...they will charge more to content providers who will in turn charge more to consumers. In the end, it will be the end users ultimately paying the price for this.

30k gamerscore, Jan through October.

Shows 1995 total hours played, but only because I very rarely turn my Xbox off.  I just leave it on - paused or at home screen - most days.

That number makes me worry a little that I'm shortening the lifespan of my system, though....

From a C-Net article (no idea if they are neutral on this or not) that seems to sum up the hub-bub:

What I gleam from this:

  • The vote fell along party lines because in general the Republican Party is for less government oversight. I don't think that the Republican Party is angling to cause anyone to lose access to any online media (or to cause one's opponents in Overwatch to time out and lose the match, sorry Donken) or other of life's little joys.
  • The repeal rolled back the clock on oversight of the internet to a set of rules that were put in place by ANOTHER DEMOCRAT.

What I assume will happen:

  • If ANY ISP tries to deny or stifle access to ANYTHING, there would be such an outcry that they would be forced to reverse said action almost immediately.
  • Nothing will happen.
I don't think backlash will do anything for most customers. The majority of the US has internet provided by either Comcast or Time Warner, which don't really overlap territories much by design, and are so big that there just isn't much competition in a lot of areas.

Yeah, consumer choice isn't exactly a thing for the vast majority of people, at least not for home connectivity and broadband, so the idea that this is good for business to encourage competition is moot.

Also, the point about rolling back regulations to a past Democrat - that's referring to regulations when dial-up was still the norm, smart phones and Youtube didn't exist, portable gaming systems didn't have wi-fi, and the only online connectivity for consoles was that Dreamcast modem. Online job applications were not the norm, and news was still primarily disseminated through print media. Email wasn't standard for work and school, either.

That's like rolling back copyright laws to before digital media was a thing. I don't think the Clinton administration can be blamed for how 90s policies might impact the internet in 2018, they were updated for a reason.

Serious? I had 500 hours for the entire period and you got as much for less than half the year. I thought I played a lot.

My simple economic argument in favor of net neutrality: how many ISPs could engage in the anti competitive practice of throttling/charging usurious fees to a competitor of another of that company’s services?

Example: If Netflix counts against your Comcast internet data cap, but streaming apps that are tied to your Comcast cable to account do not count against that data cap, then you have anti competitive behavior that has been routinely punished in the past.
My thing is that ISPs don't have to be that obvious about it. And if they do something, you can bet that it will be framed in a positive way. I think my assessment mirrors these two comments. And as a basis for this, I need only refer to current practice in the cellular/mobile internet access space. I have 'soft' cap on my phone(s) with Verizon Wireless, after 12GB (plus any rollover from the previous month), I can still get internet, but at throttled speeds. Okay, but, I also have Verizon Fios at home. Fios has a mobile app that allows one to view Fios programming over mobile. As a "perk" (that above-mentioned positive framing) of being both a home and mobile Verizon customer, I can stream Fios Mobile video, Live and On Demand, to my phone and any data that is used is *NOT* charged against my data cap. This makes it more advantageous to stream Fios content than Hulu/Netflix, etc. This is more how I see it playing out in the home space. Not an Iron Curtain blocking, but more self promotion.

Before, yesterday's vote, mobile and home internet were treated under different rules. The telecoms want them both under the previous 'mobile' rules.

And I'm a rarity in that I have a choice of at least three cable/internet providers (Verizon, Comcast, Cox) in addition to satellite (Dish, Direct TV).

Direct Tv and Comcast will eventually be one. Trump and the DoJ won't let it go through if CNN is part of the deal. Which obviously they used to push the anti trump people into thinking it was unfair. Time Warner and Disney are in a race to own everything.

Mine has almost no info. It only shows info from the 2ish hours I got to play an Xbox One prior to my purchase of the X on launch day. So zero stats from November or December. My 360 is offline, which is why I have no other activity.
This for me too. I bought an XoneS in October to trade in for a launch day XoneX, so I played a bunch of BC games until Nov 7th, and those newer games don't even show up due to the Oct cutoff. So my number 1 game is Dark Souls, number 2 is Forza Horizon 3 (came with the S). I think I spent more time playing Battlefront 2 and maybe Fortnite, heck I probably played more Ninja Gaiden Black than FH3. LOL at these meaningless Live stats, that end right before they launch their "most powerful console ever!"

So having some rewards credit, I went ahead and bought Romancing Saga 2 anyway, even if it is just a mobile port. Some of the issues described on the reviews on Steam had to do with things like resolution and limited controller support. Figured those shouldn’t be problems in the console version.

And so far, it’s good. Sure it is not all that much different from the mobile one but we need more JRPGs on Xbox One and maybe if this is successful enough, we can get some more original games in the genre or completely new remasters.

I know I should support Xbox but man I really like playing RPGs on the Switch.

2000 Credits later 2 new characters and 2 epic Weapons in gearsmas. Nice.
I had 3,700 credits, so I bought 9 packs. Pulled the Sweater Imago in the 4th pack, so the legendary character is out of the way. No sign of the other characters yet. Checking cards on the web site is messed up, can't scrap duplicates of the Gearsmas stuff and green Gearsmas weapons are marked as rare while blue Knit ones are marked as common.

10 Knit weapons (7 blue / rare, 3 epic), 4 Gearsmas weapons and 2 new Gingerbread (Enforcer and Overkill). Already had the Gingerbread Boom, Gnasher, Lancer and Snub from last year., which is probably why I was able to scrap a dupe Gingerbread Gnasher.

1.5x credits for the 12 days of Gearsmas bonus today.

Played my first solo match of PUBG yesterday on the X1X. A bit laggy and some issues here and there but not bad. It took a while to get the hang of the controls though. I dropped in near a house and right away spotted another player hiding in the upstairs part. I had a shotgun equipped but had no clue how to load my bullets into it and based on the empty clicking sounds from the other guy I think it was his first game too. I punched him to death for my first kill.

Then I got into a car and drove around a bit and ran someone over for the second kill. Snuck around a bit and eventually saw a player inside a flipped over car that might've gone AFK, so shot him. Eventually I got killed with 3 kills myself, at the number 6 spot. Not bad for a first game. I'll be doing some doubles matches soon with my cousin, those should be a bit more fun.

Pretty good start for PUBG on consoles but they definitely need to lock the frame rate at 60 and fix some of the issues. Also they need to rework the loot system because it takes way too long to grab and equip things.

Didn't get the Imago yet but the other 2 chars =P also Gingerbread Lancer and Snub so far..and yeah you can't scrap on console either yet. Got 5 different Knit Weapons and 4 Gearsmas Weapons...also can confirm that the Gearsmas weapons are rares ingame and all the Knit Weapons are common (except for the Kinit Enforcer that's a rare..(on the website shown as epic/purple but filed under rare xp) , (nothing like the website states =O)...also have about 10.000 Credits left...

Also finished TA Christmas Challenge 9 yesterday with Action Adventure Achievements from Yooka Laylee have to get 10 x10G Achievements now and I don't have that many left when I checked hmmm Rare Replay ould help doing Snapshots...

Well it’s a paid beta right? So chances are those will be fixed.

The X enhancement for Redout is out native 4K/60 FPS. Pretty good game if you want a Wipeout fix. Also currently on sale for $24 after GCU at Best Buy.

Good thing I stocked up on gold and stacked them on Black Friday - I’m covered through Nov 2019

Admittedly, I don't know a lot about net neutrality, but wasn't it passed in 2015 under Obama? So wouldn't the rolling back regulations to a past Democrat be referring to that? Also, the internet seemed to do decently well up until 2015 without net neutrality. I'm not saying that repealing net neutrality was the right move, but I also don't know that it's the doomsday scenario many seem to indicate.

Ask Netflix how much blackmail money they had to give Comcast in order to keep their streaming service from folding. They wouldn't have had to increase their rates so soon if they didn't have to pay millions of dollars to Comcast just so Netflix customers with Comcast could actyually watch what they paid for.

I’m with you and not buying the doom and gloom spreading around that is also now focused on Disney and other “hot” issues. We are living in extreme times, you’re either disconnected, rational or overly involved.

The "past Democrat" I was referring to was Bill Clinton. Obama's laws that were set up in 2015 were just repealed and now we have (will have?) the same laws that Clinton put in place.

It won't be the doomsday scenario because companies want to make money. One way to make money is not to anger your customer base.

I hope we find out about the winter sale soon. A lot of games are on sale on the PS4, but I would rather get the Xbox versions over PS4.

Just squeaked in with the FH3 Forzathon that finished. Got 3 of the 4 for the new Forzathon, the 4th one (speed skills in a Buggy) isn't tracking.

Bunch of Forzathon challenges in FM7 as well, though those have at least 2 weeks to go.
I was signing up for open enrollment, looked up and saw there were 8 minutes for me to get 5 races in. Had my priorities right so switched to FH3, but only got 4 in in time. Can't win them all I guess.

On my top 5 it lists Pneuma as my number 5 most played game. There is no way that is right unless someone is sneaking into my house and playing my Xbox.
On second thought I do remember falling asleep The one night I played it so maybe that put it over-the-top.

On another note I want to shake the man’s hand that could have possibly gotten all of The achievements in that game without a guide.

Not gonna lie. Wipeout Omega is the better game. That said, I think Redout is more forgiving. It’s also a pure racer (ie. no weapons), which is a bit of a letdown for me liking combat, but may be a plus for others. It’s vibrant and has an incredible sense of speed. Overall, for a genre that has so few entries in recent years, it’s a pretty good game IMO. And really the only Wipeout-style racer on Xbox.

One thing that is unique about it is “boss” races, which combine tracks into one long ass race with portals that transfer you from environment to environment. Kinda a neat addition.
