I don't hate kids. I don't understand why people are so proud of themselves and want to be congratulated for having them like it's some big accomplishment when it's the most common thing in the world. I mean congrats for bringing more children into an already over populated world when we have hundreds of thousands of children in foster care or ready for adoption.

Congrats to all parents. Choosing to love and take care of someone else instead of your own selfish ass and needs is a noble deed. I think people here just find it amazing that we’re not all young folks anymore and a lot of us have families, responsibilities and little gamers to take care of besides finding sick deals.

Guys, he's right though. Between politics and/or videogame discussion involving your children and the normal conversations here, we're definitely on the right track after that first post. The course has been corrected and we're all good now. This morning's posts have clearly been more appropriate than anything else.

The only people I block on these forums are people that are making sexist, racist or homophobic posts. You've done nothing to make me want to block you.

I'm failing to see anyone claiming to be noble or asking for congratulations around here.  It's a proud moment for sure and if someone wants to share that with this group then that's awesome.  Sure the congrats may naturally follow but I'm pretty sure nobody does it for that reason.

If you were a parent you would know all too well that "noble" is pretty far down the list of things we feel lol.  At least for me as I can't really speak for everyone but I've never heard that word used to describe parenthood.

This is why I always rub pink highlighter all over my face before talking sarcastically to my loved ones. It has done wonders since my tone of voice never changes between my normal talking and sarcastic..... If only I didn't have to go through multiple markers a week to tell people I love them.....

Inside is fantastic for what it is, and while I hate the driving for the most part Batman has a solid story line. Get them if you plan on playing by yourself. TF2 has a storyline as short as inside..... but still great. I wish it was longer. BF1 has a very boring single player in my opinion.

 
I have a backlog related question. My 2017 total of completed games was exactly zero. I did add dozens of games to my collection in that year. Is it time to admit that I am just a hoarder and not a gamer anymore?

Seems to me that the congratulations in this case are more of the "good wishes on a special occasion" rather than praise of an achievement. The same as other milestones in life -- it doesn't take any skill to buy a house or car, for example. It's not winning a prize in a contest.

I like the banter in this group. I’m better “friends” with half of the people in here than I am with anyone in real life.

My kid is 9 and plays Rocket League and Gost Simulator. He’s mildly autistic, so these are things where he doesn’t really have to do anything specific. He’s played a little of the Lego games with me, but he gets bored quickly.

fucking YouTube, though... We ended up getting him an Amazon Kindle so we could block YT. It turns him into a beast when he gets even just a little bit. I think it’s like Halloween 3 where they embed some shit in the videos to turn kids into monsters.

I'd say it depends what you're looking for.

If you want single player experiences, go with Arkham Knight and Inside

If you want multiplayer experiences, go with BF1 and TF2

I recommend Batman: Arkham Knight. Game is a lot of fun and the extra content is enjoyable as well.

 
My oldest loved watching me play Forza and Tiger Woods golf when he was 2. He started playing games with me when he was 4 by swapping the Skylanders on and off the portal. A friend sent me Spyro’s adventure when the twins were born, so that became our special father-son time while the twins were infants. Since then, he’s gotten into Forza, Rayman, Lego Games and Mario Kart.

But my proudest accomplishment as a gaming dad is the fact that he knows M rated games are just for dad, and E rated games are for all of us.

Get Batman, it’s a fantastic game. The season pass adds a quite a few side stories to the campaign that are fun.

Well originally it was congratulating a parent on a new child and then gaming with children but now that it's shifted to being a parent.

Clearly there is a lack of moms in this thread. Watching my wife go through 9 months of pregnancy and then watching labor, I would say calling it noble is an understatement.

With how many friends we have that struggle to have kids (lots of miscarriages/other complications) and adoption favors couples that bribe the agency with bigger donations, I still think it's an achievement to be a parent. Adoption can end up being harder, and way more expensive so both are a major achievement in my books.

And also, get out of my way peasants, I'm a noble proud father coming through.

On the topic of gaming. I got my Xbox One X yesterday, got it setup last night. I only have a 1080p tv but I think even Overwatch looks more crisp on the X. I'm really impressed with it after coming from an OG Xbox One.

Also thanks to EliteWillie for talking about modding the Kinect, my wife was asking how she can play just dance still so I'm going to mod ours to work on the X.

My thoughts exactly. People act like they fulfilled this amazing obligation to the world by not pulling out. When my wife and I are ready, we're adopting. I'm also making it my personal mission to not shove my kids in people's faces because I understand how annoying it is.
 
I'm not going to quote any specific posts to single anyone out, but to touch on the kids discussion briefly, I think it's ridiculous that at least a few people in here seemed mad or upset that their kids don't want to play games like they do and are more into YouTube personalities or simple tablet games or whatever. Your kids don't have to be into the same hobbies you are. I'm definitely not into the same stuff my parents are. Stop trying to force your kids into liking games. Let them like whatever they want to like.

My favorite is when people make some huge spectacle over getting pregnant and/ or a gender reveal. Guess what, I had 3 daughters and not once did we feel the need to make some lame viral video to tell the world what the sex of our child is. We brought our immediate family together and told them. Now that is "noble".

I'd go with choice 1 and EA Access. You get quite a bit of content for $25 per year (or less if you can find a deal). For some people it might not work if they already have a lot of those EA games in their backlog.

Seriously, where do you guys get that belief from? I don't think I'm some hero because I had kids. No one I know feels this way. We just love the hell out of our kids. Honestly you have no idea what it feels like to bring a little thing into the world and see them develop as a person.

No one here was showing their kids in anyone's face. There was a discussion about kids. That's it.

I don't complain when people have multi page discussions about video game achievement hunting and I think it's one of the stupidest things in the world. I skip the discussion and go about my day.

So countdown sale just about done. Is the next big sale the spring event? Or is there something before that?
 
December turned out to be a fun gaming month, and a lot of the credit goes to the 12 Days of Christmas event TA was running.  Had me digging in my backlog and looking at games I had forgotten about.  Altogether, I played at least a bit of 25 different games last month!

This fall I also tried an experiment of playing the new releases and trading them in before their value fell.  That worked out well financially, but playing under the gun like that detracts from the fun factor so I don't think I'll be doing it again.   With new release season over, I did clean up six games from the backlog in December:

- This War of Mine: The Little Ones
- King's Quest The Complete Collection (x360)
- Jonah Lomu Rugby Challenge (x360)
- Megamind Ultimate Showdown (x360)
- Syberia 3
- World to the West

I already mentioned This War of Mine as a title I enjoyed a lot, and it's included in the GamePass if anyone's interested.  In a nutshell, you are prepping your house against assault, the approaching winter, and balancing resource collection, exploration, and making improvements, all while keeping you and your housemates healthy and comfortable.

Sadly, Syberia 3 and World to the West are newer X1 titles that just weren't for me.  I completed them, but would not recommend.
