Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.

When is OP usually updated? This is first time it hasn't been when I've looked in a while, but not sure if i looled the day after or not. I passed on a sale on Edith Finch game on PSN, Even though I have credit on both consoles, because there are other PS titles I want soon, and Microsoft Rewards makes sure that Xbox credit they give for points expires in 3 months, so have to use it soon, anyway, even if that game is full price (i have until beginning of March for the vast chunk of my credit). I doubt it is, but wondering if that game is on sale. I should have bought it during the New Year sale, or whatever that sale was called, but didn't think I was interested, & also didn't know that the manner in which I used to redeem points now gives you credit that expires (before, MS Store credit expired, but Xbox credit didn't. Now they've removed Xbox credit entirely, and no longer have $5 denominations of MS Store credit).

The OP is updated once a year - usually when the thread gets created. Soon after, bunch of people smell the thread and appreciate the same; and, we quickly move past the first page.

Since no one ever reads to OP, Bloomy leaves the OP as-is until the following year.

In any case, you were wondering if Edith Finch is on sale, as part of Deals with Gold, right?

Check the Op, it should tell you if it is or isn't. Also, check Major's Post.

I miss those linear, action packed 360 era games, man. They were just long enough to feel like I got my money's worth without overstaying their welcome. Nowadays unless your game is 350 hours of constsntly running and swimming to another swath of land, the shit won't see the light of day.
Same here! I was looking at my 360 library yesterday thinking the same thing about how so many those games would never have been made today.

So my guess right now is the companies found out their BC games were approved today so they canceled/delayed some of the sales. Because The Darkness 2 and Spec Ops were both supposed to be on sale this week...

They have to monetize the games, they think, & one you only spend 10-15 hrs in won't give you any incentive to buy skins for a character, weapons, etc, that you won't see again after that 10-15 hours. They were battling GameStop instead of other games in same genre, and since online pass didn't work, & a few games made tons with the microtransactions, that meant that every game needed it.

Problem for us is it's successful financially even if only 5% of the gamers that buy the game buy the microtransactions, so the publishers, even some devs, think it's worth the change in development. An extra team, (whether cut from original team that would be there if not for MT's, or hired separately) is working on those aspects for almost the entirety of projects, for content that only a small percentage of the user base will experience. If that ends up being the case (in numbers that in most other cases would be considered failure), the effort is deemed a success, thus it continues to have an ever growing presence in future games from the companies involved.

Gamer satisfaction goes out the window when their profit is telling them it's successful. What they will have to deal with eventually is creating content that the vast majority of their customers dislike, even if they like the base content, which will eventually lead to bad publicity and the like, so that that small percentage gets even smaller to the point it's no longer successful strategically to ignore the majority of their customers. That is unless they keep shrugging it off like they are doing now (saying, "everyone won't like everything," & keep doing it), but it's eventually going to come to the point where either gamers get fed up, or start liking MT's. I think it will be the former much sooner than the latter. I hope they listen before that point, but it seems that's where we are headed when publishers/developers think they know what the customers want better than the customer.

The OP only showed stuff through January 29th when i posted that, though I'll look again, then check Major's post. Thanks.

Edit: regarding the spoiler, the content in the OP is updated weekly with the deals, etc. A new thread with new OP may be once a year, but I check it almost every week & see the deals, and have done since Bloomy started doing it, & at least 2 authors before him over the years. I hardly ever check the posts, just the OP.

Well crud. Glad I didn't buy stuff when I started playing it recently. Shame, I liked Gigantic.
July is a long time from now, and they've unlocked all the characters to be playable until then. That's pretty good. What's not so great is that this follows almost immediately after news of Paragon's closure. One is PC and PS4 exclusive, the other is PC and Xbox exclusive - we lost two great MOBAs in one fell swoop.

Phantom Gnasher and Lancer are quests in tonight's Gears live stream.  These are the translucent skins that are blue if you're COG and red if you're Swarm.  They are (currently) Legendary skins, so hopefully duplicates can be scrapped for 600.  Edit: Doesn't look like they can be scrapped.

Did the $1 Gamepass thing just so I could play Halo 5. I rushed through it on easy...honestly it was more enjoyable that way.
I always play Halo on Easy difficulty. It turns the game into Mike Tyson's Punchout - you can just run up to dudes and melee them into squishy alien bits. It makes the wonderfully pitiful squeals of the grunts all the more enjoyable.

Rented Monster Hunter World to give it a shot even though I wasn’t too excited about the beta (which I played on PS4). Man the colors on my X are super washed out.

It should be mandatory for any dev doing X enhancements to use AC Origins as a model.

Making they are negotiating with the game companies which games to sell. They were probably supposed to have already done it.
It's happened about once every two months where the 360 deals glitched or otherwise didn't make it up. Seems odd they'd only be held up on the 360 if it was a business issue, I assume it's a technical one.

Just turn the color up in game

I've tried Googling this to no avail so thought I would ask here even though I know most of you don't play Madden lol.

I have two XB1s and recently I started gamesharing between the two after setting up a Gamertag for my son. I got him Madden for Christmas even though I already had it on PS4. When I go to the game store while he's signed in, it says he doesn't have Gold and shows everything full price. I was thinking about getting him a pack or two of the Madden add on that's currently $4. If I buy it while I'm signed in, is it linked to me or does whoever start the game first get it? The reason I think it could be the latter is because apparently both my PS4 and XB1 are linked to my Twitch Prime and he has snatched the last few players they have given away because he played in the XB1 before I did on the PS4.

Anyway, I doubt any of you would have run into that but didn't know if other games had similar examples.

You have to log in on your xbox with his account and make it your home

Make him your family then he will share gold

Madden boxes won't share

Just a heads up.  The free South Park: Stick of Truth code, that came with the Fractured But Whole, expires tonight.

I wonder if this is also affecting GwG Split/Second. It's been available a few days early the last few months but still hasn't flipped yet even though Shadow Warrior is already available.

That's how I have it set up. He plays online against friends all the time so it thinks he has Gold then. Seems to only apply to making purchases.

Also, if you like Split Second, grab the Master Unlock for 4.99 to unlock all DLC, normally 19.99.

It actually made the cutscenes more believable where all the Spartans are jumping around and taking out baddies so easily.

It's been entertaining to watch your transition into graphics whore AWP 😂

I've sort of been wondering if there isn't going to be some sort of rationalization in the industry, with some games simply failing to make it due to too much competition. I don't know the stats, but the number of games being released these days is incredible. There were about 500 titles added to TrueAchievement's xbox one listing since I last checked back in the summertime, or around 65 titles a month.

People are lucky if they have 65 hours a month for gaming, let alone 65 titles worth, and that's not counting PC/PS4/Switch exclusives. It's both amazing and incomprehensible at the same time.

I don't think I've ever messed around with Halo on Easy aside from taking screenshots. Even on Normal I generally fell like I'm steamrolling the enemy. The Bungie games were well tuned with Heroic as the intended difficulty, so I almost always play there unless working on a Legendary run.

4 isn't quite there as I don't feel the Prometheans are nearly as fleshed out overall. 5 is kind of a mess with difficulty. I feel like they didn't touch Heroic so it's too easy thanks to your squad, but they cranked Legendary up a couple notches because of them.

The Master Unlock does not give you all the DLC and it was never $19.99. It just unlocks all the stuff that comes with the base game so you can use it without having to earn it. I hope you're just mistaken rather than deliberately trying to fool people into wasting money.

Can someone edit that post? I'd hate for someone to buy what is basically a cheat code thinking it's a season pass.

3rd party giveaways, like from Twitch, can sometimes be limited to a single redemption. As for the m$ store, whichever profile you're actively signed in as will be the purchasing account.
