Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.

Is anyone aware of a way to convert a preloaded Visa debit card to Xbox Live credit? I have a couple I received for buying new tires and I'd like to use every penny on them, instead of being stuck with a card that has a dollar or two left after I make a purchase.

The request for an email address raised my eyebrow when I read that. I haven't done any gifting, but does the process really ask for the recipient's email address instead of gamertag? That seems like a big security and/or privacy issue right here. Knowing the email address is potentially an easy start to hacking someone's Xbox account. Not to mention people might use parts of their real name in their email address, but might not have their name displayed on their gamertag profiles.
no malice intent here, but I definitely see how that could be a security issue.

can you use them on newegg? they let you buy them in dollar increments as low as $5 so its kinda nice if you have a random $7 or some other random amount.

I've seen PatFortenbaugh ask for tags in the past, but when I did it, I didn't remember it asking for email or tag, just email. I just clicked the buy as gift on an item on the web site and it only asks an email. Same thing in the Win10 store. Console may be different.

You could load/reload your Amazon account and then use that to buy Xbox credit.

I did that when I had $10 Visa from MS Rewsrds. I then used it to buy the hdmi cable for the OG Xbox.

Definitely wasn't hinting at that. :) All these giveaways are great for the site and the community. I was just surprised the gifting feature doesn't use gamertags, especially given all the privacy/security issues in the news nowadays.

I agree with you completely it never even crossed my mind but in todays world I could see how with that little piece of information and probably a simple facebook search could gain someone pretty easy access to accounts and what not.

So, I was thinking about finally grabbing Mortal Kombat XL in this sale. I LOVED the previous game in the series (especially the story mode) but don't play much online. I also already have Injustice 2 and KI if I get an itch to play a fighter. However, some of the DLC characters (namely the Xenomorph and Predator) look cool. Is it worth picking up?

For ten dollars? Again, yes. I have MKXL on Playstation 4, and it's a very solid game with a whole lot of features. A much more well rounded package than Street Fighter V was.

Thanks again mundial1345!

But I agree the whole gifting thing is a bit backwards. I just got off Microsoft support because the email they sent me was just blank. And the person on chat asked "can you just call him and get the code" I was floored. It was the 1st time I had terrible customer service from Microsoft.

Thanks for clarifying that. Bloomy tested it on non-console and it only gave the option to use an email. Really surprised there's no option to use gamertag on the website, too.
It's probably the same bug that prevents using credit for 360 content outside the 360 itself.

Even if you gift to GT it still just sends them an email though :/

It's bad planning (good for them though cause they have another email to spam)

It sends them a message from Xbox Live and can redeem the code right there, one of those types you get when they give you free mixpot stuff

edit: took out "in game" not what I meant, I mean while you're in the console you have messages and a separate thing for messages from "Xbox Live"? it will show up in there

Anyone have thoughts on Cities: Skylines? I've been eyeing this for awhile and feel like $16 is a good price for the base game.

Sent from my HTC6545LVW using Tapatalk
I own and played City Skylines on Steam, and Xbox version via Game Pass. PC is better suited for City management but overall I think they did a good job converting to the Xbox gamepad.

There's a decent amount of content for the base game and it can be a bit of a time sink if you enjoy these type of games. 16 bucks is decent, but maybe consider a Game Pass trial to check it out before committing.

Kaboom. Battlefront 2 is bought. Doing a little research it seems as if a lot of new content is about to drop from now through the end of the year.
I'm almost never online due to having two small children, but my gt is hauz20 if you every want to play some mp.

The campaign is a good time too, if that's where your focus is

Get it. It's basically more of the same (in a good way). $10 is a steal for all the content in it.

Since they email a code, I assume the recipient doesn't need to give the email address associated with their Xbox account.

Agreed. The story wasn’t as good as 9, but it more than held my attention for a month or so. Would have held me longer but I played Injustice 2 first and some of the hooks were missing. Once they’ve seen the multiverse, it’s hard to keep them on the farm.

I was playing Lost Odyssey and noticed an interesting glitch.

All the achievements for the game are listed in Japanese, even the unlocked ones. But when they unlocked, they had English text.

I picked up like 15 things during the sale... both XB1 and 360.

The one thing i'm still on the fence about is Battlefront 2. I am more interested in the Multiplayer than the Singleplayer and i'm reading online that MP is still basically a mess because there are so many people with OP cards/abilities from when there were loot boxes and now new players just get destroyed and take forever to level up.

Can anyone confirm if this is actually a big issue or not?

I know it's only $15 but i don't want to waste my money.

I enjoy reading about people here picking up that cable. Such a great invention!
The same company makes one for the Dreamcast too. I just got mine from Amazon and posted in the Xbox HDMI thread that it worked great on one of my Dreamcasts and not at all on one of the others. But it has a wonderful picture when it works!

I don't think it'd be a waste. It's easier to rank up now than when the loot boxes were the only way to progress. You can use arcade mode to learn the maps, and then it's just a matter of skill. The only mode you have a definite disadvantage in coming in now would probably be Starfighter assault, but with practice and patience it's not so bad either. I've had the game since launch, and it's easily worth $15.

Its worth it but yes the player cards can make a difference. But on the same card its not much of a difference you can still do good with out the card level ups. The star fighter mode is great.

Wanted Dishonored 2 and yeah might as well get the bundle with Prey for $3 more

Think I'm done unless I get weak and grab Shadows of War

Hellblade

Golf Club 2

Dishonored 2

Prey

The Count of Lucanor

dang forgot I want Pillars of Eternity, back to clicking MS Rewards

that doom combo looks nice, and i like shooters...but wolfenstein? cover looks all dressed up in nazi garb, and in this trump ''hate emboldened'' era im not trying to hand money to people who wanna appeal to nazis/trump fascists. do i have it wrong? i dont feel so but want some input.

fuck Nazis. That is all you need to know.

A few questions...

Can I buy xbox live with account credit?  Got a giftcard from work for Prime Day and want to put it towards that

Also, is the list on the first page everything that's on sale?  Seems to be short of "hundreds" of games

It’s absolutely about killing Nazis.

That happened to me when I sent myself the gift code, the email was blank. So I went into my account and looked up my previous transactions and there was a link to click that showed the code.

Thank you all for your kind comments and well wishes for my mom. We all tend to forget how some simple kind words can make a world of difference to someone’s day, so keep being awesome xbox thread! And thank you mundial1345! for hooking up PatFortenbaugh with a game. I don’t think he envisioned this happening when he started his raffle a few months ago. I could keep rambling on about how awesome you all are, but you all already know it!

I think I'm going to get:

Hellblade
SW: Battlefront 2
Okami HD

Count of Lucanor looks interesting but what type of game is it exactly? Somebody sell me on it.

what is the deal on the long dark? ''game preview''? so we aren't buying the game?

Its been a full release since last august, its not in game preview anymore. Excellent survival game with a good amount of content. I highly recommend it.

Game Previews are like steam early access, you pay for a game that isnt finished yet (and could end up never being finished) but you keep the game when/if its fully released.

I'm thinking of finally grabing Dying Light, yay or nay?

Dying Light is one of my favorite games this gen. I've been waiting for $15 price point to purchase and play the additional campaign content, but $18 is good enough for me. The devs still support the game all this time later by releasing new content/special patches periodically.

Just got my X today. Didn't really expect a graphical leap since I don't own a 4K tv yet....but holy crap! This thing makes the games on my 7 year old Sharp tv look freaking amazing. It's a huge improvement over the normal Xbox One S. I am officially impressed and extremely pissed off that I sold the X I won from Taco Bell last year.

Well I made my purchases earlier in the sale than I usually do. Grabbed:

Skyrim/Fallout GOTY Bundle (because I'm a sucker)

Far Cry 5 Gold (more for Far Cry 3 Classic than the season pass)

Assassin's Creed Rogue

Really wanted Onrush to go on sale before the player base dwindles too much. Also probably would have picked up Vampyr if it had gone on sale at the same time as everything else.

The 40pts per dollar for rewards right now is pretty nice. Earned ~ 4,800 with these purchases. As expected the gold edition of Far Cry 5 didn't count for the season pass bonus.

What's this about 40 points per dollar?

that doom combo looks nice, and i like shooters...but wolfenstein? cover looks all dressed up in nazi garb, and in this trump ''hate emboldened'' era im not trying to hand money to people who wanna appeal to nazis/trump fascists. do i have it wrong? i dont feel so but want some input.
Um I'm sure you've been corrected by this point but new Wolfenstein is about as far away from Trump as you're going to get in at least "Video Games"

Sounds good, looks like it’ll be my first grab in this sale.

Since I'm not seeing Anything worth buying in the sale, already own most of the AAA or better known titles, anyone have any suggestions for some lesser known games $20 or less? Thinking about Elex, but not sure if it's worth it.

Thanks for all the Destiny 2 comments. Now I’m torn between that and SW Battlefront 2. If all I’m interested in is a good, solid single player campaign with good shooting mechanics, which game would any of you recommend I get first? I might get into MP later, but for now I want a good shooter campaign I can enjoy.

Also vanilla D2 for 5 bucks isn’t showing up for me, only the $20 one with expansions.
