Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Man, it seems like it might have been a mistake to get vanilla Tekken 7. It seems like they don't want to discount any DLC now.

Will the Xbox sale and gamepass discount stack on deus ex?
Game Pass games have to be in for a two months to get their full GP discount last I heard. I'm not sure if it stacks then, I don't think it does.

While we're doing recommendations, I want to give my two cents for What Remains of Edith Finch. The base game is a walking sim, but it tells the story of multiple family members with different gameplay elements for every family member. Great atmosphere, variety, and engaging story. Check it out when it hits Gamepass.
Almost bought Edith Finch numerous times on PS4, will definitely check it out on game pass (after they release the related rewards quest...).

On PS4, I got the season 1 pass for $9 after buying Tekken 7 rematch edition for $32. Odd seeing the prices so much higher now.

If you're going to have a Konami Anniversary Collection, they need to go beyond Castlevania and Contra and add:

I think THQ Nordic might have the rights to TMNT games right now, since they have a Nickelodeon license. They might be up for negotiation though, since they were added to WB published Injustice 2.

Licensing will probably cause problems with that, same reason the XBLA ones got delisted. And Ultra was simply a company Konami created to get around Nintendo's limits on how many games a company could publish for the NES in a year.

Please buy The Witcher 3 if you haven't yet. Worth every cent.
I’ve been considering getting it even though I’ve got lots of open world story games as it is. I’ve watched people play and it hasn’t really grabbed me. Am I missing something?

To get in the mood for Seriko, which apparently some are saying is even harder than some of the Souls games, I decided to go back and play some of the original Dark Souls. Hadn’t played it on X and frame rate seems really solid so far.

I’ve only completed one of the story modes. About 3 hours but gameplay runs great and visually it looks awesome. Can’t say much for online play

For me its because I like to own games, whether physical or digital. Mainly physical. And i own over 500 xb1 titles and over 400 360 titles as it is.

Ah now this I can understand, it’s a collectible thing. Interesting.

Games that got significantly worse from 1-2

1. Toe jam and earl
2. Qube
What am I missing?

The gameplay is meh, the writing and setting is what the game is loved for.
The amount of stuff to do looks overwhelming. I’m just finishing up the main story of AC Odyssey. Assassins Creed games are my favorite but the only complaints I had we’re the equipment choices and the amount to do(which felt tendious because all of the traveling.) There are so many games now that are just so huge that the story suffers for it. I’m going to think about it because I could easily love it.

i decided to get the soul caliber 6 deluxe edition

was debating about tekken 7 ultimate edition but decided to wait for the time being

Yeah anything with an IP isn't happening, you could get those on the 360 though

Decided to finally jump into the division 2 since getting it on release. Was finishing up the game of thrones rpg when it came out then took a few days off from playing. I basically just did the intro missions for the third time. Then went to check out a safehouse mission and died three times so gave up for the night. The enemy zones you can take over are wicked hard unless I was doing it wrong. It was right next to the safehouse and the enemies were the same level as me. I also ran into a problem that happened in the beta: some enemies will be at a location and a larger group would load in after I started engaging and I'd get overwhelmed. Not load in as in opening a closed door and running in, but just popping up where the rest of the enemies were.

Apex Legends: A dev gave a rough estimate of 100 hours of SURVIVAL time (not actual playtime) using all available bonuses to complete the battle pass. Saves me the time of trying to see if I can grind it out since it will take me more than 100 hours over 90 days. I'll just play how I normally do and not worry about it.

kinda tempted by SoulCalibur VI for 50% off, how did it turn out on the X?
It's looks great on X. I hear it has somewhat long load times on a base Xbox One but they're normal on X. I mostly make characters and play Ranked, but it's got a decent feature set overall. There is one downside about the Xbox version, for some reason when playing casual matches you don't get a room list to pick which lobby you'd like to join, but PS4 and PC do. Aside from that my main gripes are the occasionally spotty netcode that leads to a slow motion battle once in a while, the tiny text in the Libra of Soul mode, and the fact that the large regional rooms from 5 are not in the game.

As for Tekken I would recommend getting the PS4 version if you have the choice. The base PS4 runs a bit below 900p and PS4 Pro only goes up to 1080 with some extra effects. Xbox is stuck at 720p, which looks better than I expected (probably because it's actually several years old in the arcades), but not great. I really wish they'd put in the effort to do an upgrade since DLC is ongoing, but Harada said it's difficult from a technical standpoint. All that said, the PS4 version likely has a much larger player-base, which is a big plus.

I saw that estimate and I think their numbers are skewed. It definitely took us about 2 hours to go up each level. We placed decent in probably 4 or 5 matches and won 1 game in about 3 hours. I think the percentage boost will take a while to really feel like it's doing much, especially if you're playing with randoms or your squad doesn't all buy the pass.

Ah now this I can understand, it’s a collectible thing. Interesting.
Games that got significantly worse from 1-2

2. Qube

Worse sequels, you mean? I'd say Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest, Devil May Cry 2, Super Mario Bros 2: The Lost Levels, Zelda 2: Adventures of Link, and probably some unofficial Western sequels to Japanese games, like Strider II for the Genesis and Target Renegade for the NES.

Licensing will probably cause problems with that, same reason the XBLA ones got delisted. And Ultra was simply a company Konami created to get around Nintendo's limits on how many games a company could publish for the NES in a year.
My inner child just had his mind blown. I never knew that about Ultra games but it makes so much damn sense. I wanna go play the awful beat-em-up Rollergames now!

I never played the original Metal Gear on NES, but I own Metal Gear 2: Snake’s Revenge, which I’ve been told is one of the worst games of all time.
My personal input: The Force Unleashed II. Such promise and the first was so cool, and then the story of the second just went totally off the rails. Plus with all the licensing changes we’ll never get part 3 and that kinda sucks.

I bought Metal Gear just from the stylish Ultra games cover, along with the silver boxed regular Konami stuff they sure knew how to catch the eye

Anyone see a deal for xbox currency for 10% off or more anywhere? I see newegg has $100 for $89 but i really only need like $50 worth.

And yes Ive asked in the trade forums.

Haven’t been following the game but sounds awfully similar to Quantum Break with the abilities. Not time persae but the way you froze things and moved things using time was similar to using telekinesis.

Sekiro reviews are coming in and, not surprisingly, are fantastic. 9.5 from IGN, 9 from Gamespot, 90 Game Informer...

I enjoyed QUBE 2 but it was definitely less good than the original. Some clever mechanics, but it was too easy.

Yep, everything from the logo design to the aesthetic/music of the games Ultra put out are all more or less to Konami's NES games. Nintendo only allowed publishers to put out 5 games per year in an effort to prevent the market from being flooded with shitty, cheap games. The main concern was that it would reflect poorly on Nintendo if dysfunctional software became the norm, since Nintendo themselves could only publish so many games a year, and their teams went through pretty rigorous play testing for bugs and balancing difficulty.

The gameplay in TFU II is fine, but damn, the first game had such a thoughtful and well-done story (which was canon pre-Disney!) and so well self-contained. The sequel was clearly a soulless cash-in.

Someone else mentioned Zelda II. I really wish that game would get the full remake treatment, because there is a really good game hiding under the shitty world map and save system. A 2D combat system with experience and stuff like that could be so good if they redid it. I'd rather see this than Link's Awakening, since LA is still perfectly playable today and remains my favorite Zelda.

So, in addition to Tira and 2B, the Soul Calbur 6 season pass will grant two more unannounced DLC characters, is that right?
Tira was basically a preorder character if memory serves right. So far 2B and Amy are the only season pass characters.
  • Tira was a "season pass bonus". Essentially she appears to have been developed along with the base game then set aside to make the season pass appealing at launch.
  • 2B was next. She's very faithful to her game overall. She came with a stage, and a few Nier and Nier Automata themed customization items
  • Third was Character Creation Pack 1, which add about 60 parts, along with music from Soul Blade and Soul Calibur 1.
  • Coming March 26th is Amy. She is Raphael's protegee and also uses a rapier, but her actual style is pretty different. She's coming with the parts that make up her Soul Calibur VI and IV outfits, and two hair styles. She does not include a stage does get a story branch in Soul Chronicles.
  • After that we're sceduled for another creation part pack. No official details yet but it will be around 50ish parts and is pretty likely to add more old music.
  • Finally there is character 3 (because they don't count Tira). Nothing has been said but all evidence from data-mining point to returning character Cassandra. She's basically a more aggressive version of her sister Sophitia. She's highly requested so whatever.
Data-mining has also found evidence strongly indicated a Season Pass 2 is planned. 6 characters with code names have been found in the file structure that weren't there at launch. People are speculating that all are returning characters but I don't necessarily think that's locked in based on the names we've seen. I think Lizardman/Aeon, Setsuka, and maybe Rock are the only ones that seem definite based on the codes. Other than that they appear to be planned to be released two at a time like Tekken 7's second season.

Based on the time table we're looking at I think this will probably be announced at EVO 2019 in August. E3 is a possibility but I'm not sure it's big enough news to appear at Microsoft's conference, which is the only show that would really make sense. They could announce it there and simply reveal some characters at EVO though.

Dang you missed Rakuten's deal on $100, $50 and $25 by just a day or so, went and double checked if it wasn't dead

Haven't been this hyped in a long time

I've been messing around with it on the Switch, with it's special saved game state that puts you at level 8 in everything and all moves unlocked but you still need to find heart containers and magic containers, it's kind of cheat mode but a nice quality of life play through.

Anyone play the newest Fear Effect Sedna? Wondering if it's any good. Looks totally different from the OG 2 FE games. For $3 it might be worth it, but just curious if anyone had actually played it yet

Has anyone ever used a sick/vacay day to stay home from work just to play a game? If so what game was it?
Don’t usually do a sick day but have done a “work” from home day to play some. I believe the last time I did it was when the Xbox One X came out to play many games on it. :)

Digital Foundry says the Xbox One X frame rate is actually slightly worse than the PS4 Pro for Sekiro, but visual quality is slightly better. Apparently the Pro is using some sort of visual reconstruction to get to 1800p that may be making it run better. That said it’s supposed to be almost indistinguishable. I’d have opted for that approach on the X as well if it resulted in a better frame rate.

But it’s still BS. Frame rate sounds all over the place for all the consoles. Guess typical for FromSoftware but you’d think they could do a better job with the X.

Not necessarily a "sick day", but I remember I skipped my classes in college when Beatles Rock Band came out. Set the whole thing up on the big screen TV in the common area of the dorms and basically played all day. Had friends join when they could. It was great.

I do it for most major releases that interest me (which, for me, isn't a lot). The latest one is The Division 2. Don't remember the one prior to that.

But...but...TWO LIGHTSABERS!?!?! Yes, the story was a bit convoluted, but it had its fun moments. Sad that the after credits scene will never become a reality

I've been burned by down servers and late amazon deliveries too many times to stay home, that said I'd be staying home for Sekiro but not necessary with the Thursday night release.

I've had brothers in arms for years and finally got around to turning it on last September to get that achievement and haven't played it sense. Hopefully it goes on sale digitally and multiplayer has a few people playing again.

I'm hoping from dust becomes BC soon. I remember enjoying it. Ubi is really good with their games going BC so I am hopefully.

EDIT: After looking at my BC games and Airmech being another game added to the BC game with an X1 version list, I'm surprised/disappointed we haven't seen state of decay go BC yet. I own the 360 version and haven't played it yet so I don't want to own 2 versions unless I know I really like it.

I see you sneaking around, someone's boss. I'll play your game.

I've taken a day off of work to play the following (at launch):

New WoW expansions from Burning Crusade to Mists of Pandaria (6 years clean!)

Darksiders II

Breath of the Wild

Fire Emblem Path of Radiance through Awakening

While not a sick/vacay day from work, I was "sick" the first few days of Phantasy Star Online for the Dreamcast.
