Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Nutshell:

I posted a full Wikipedia article, some people took ONE line from it without reading the context and started calling this black man a racist.

Cheapyd came and deleted everything. (this was in the middle of all the spoiler stuff over the past few weeks, which i laughed at... which pissed more people off i bet.)

As for the refugee stuff, i have no idea. Outside my avatar refugees have never even been mentioned. Maybe some outside issue people don't like, idk since i don't do social media or even watch tv anymore. Our Union Steward (another Veteran, wounded in Afghanistan) came in on his day off wearing the shirt, and I liked it so i stole it for my avatar. Do you not support your family before the random guy down the street?

anyway, i don't care anymore. Took a new supervisor job that pays $20k more, straight 40hrs but more headaches. (odds are going to be removing 2 federal employees in the next few weeks... yes you can be fired) Have had zero desire to even play a game in 2-3 weeks, much less buy anything to add to the backlog that will never be played.

Besides, it's summer now. When not at work i'll be outdoors instead of playing a game. (thats my winter activity mainly) Time to close the tab for the summer again.

Probably will be banned for posting this, cause everyone that has not blocked me will probably block/report it cause everyone else did. So ignore this post and move on don't bother responding, it will probably be deleted along with any responses.

And everyone else will see that *you* don't have me blocked...

Add me to the list of people who have no idea who you're talking about.Or maybe.. just maybe the posts were deleted before most people saw them.
That too, honestly I didn't see the post either. Maybe it should have been moved to the vs. Sub forum instead of nuking everything.

The "super" part of the sale is gonna be how huge the title list is instead of how low the prices are, isn't it?
I think Super means 16 bit instead of 8 bit, like Super Nintendo Entertainment System vs Nintendo Entertainment System

I don’t have anyone blocked except Sharks fans, cuz if you like the Sharks then I already know you have bad taste so I don’t need your video game opinions.

On loot boxes: I like them, it means I got to play Apex Legends for free since I don’t usually spend money on loot box games, although I did spend money buying the Hero pack on Smite a few years back but I got 300 hours out of it. I think I got my money’s worth. Without loot boxes be prepared to pay $100 or more for vanilla versions of some games if you want them to be able to make them. If that passes I think a lot less games will be made. If you can’t make money, investors won’t fund the development of games.

I only saw some of what was going on, but if it's anything like most things that happen on this site and any other social media site, people get outraged and offended and swing to extremes because of certain words, phrases or ideas. The reality is that the vast majority of us fall somewhere in the middle and are probably somewhat decent people, but so many of us are ready to assume everyone else is the next flaming liberal nut or hateful conservative jerk that when one word or comment that could be linked to some group or ideology appears, we begin categorizing people without knowing anything else about them. Once that starts, all sorts of conclusions start forming from little evidence and a lot of assumptions and generalizations from other sources.

This is me! Lol. I have never spent any money on microtransactions in any type of game, I inherently don't like them, but I do like that it allows others to fund the games that I enjoy playing.

While typing that, it initially made me realize it sounds kind of selfish, but after thinking about it, realized it's really not. I'm not forcing others to buy microtransactions and I would never buy them even if they didn't, so I feel no guilt.

I Primarily play single player games so this whole microtransactions law thing doesn't effect me...

With that being said I do like seeing EA and Activision sweating over this.

You came to your own resolution, but this is exactly how free markets work and why they work (at least for many things). I don't really care about having the latest iPhone but I do like the features that those early adopters are willing to pay a premium for which in-turn drives the R&D and also lowers the overall costs of other technology making stuff generally better and cheaper for me.

Same thing can be said for lots of stuff in lots of ways.

There’s so many ways to circumvent this, especially since it’s specified as for minors.

Other than the majority of sports games and Fortnite, I can’t think of any other game with loot boxes that would be classified as “for minors”.
I think a big problem here based on the quote from the article is that lawmakers really don't understand what a game "for adults" or "for kids" means. If a game is rated T for Teen by the ESRB, is that a game for minors? The Mature rating is 17+, which includes minors, too, and anything 18+ has historically been reserved for things with sexually explicit content and retailers refuse to stock them (original pressings of San Andreas, for example).

From the article:

“When a game is designed for kids, game developers shouldn’t be allowed to monetize addiction,” Hawley said in a press release. “And when kids play games designed for adults, they should be walled off from compulsive microtransactions. Game developers who knowingly exploit children should face legal consequences.”
A 17 year old is still technically a child in a sense, but there's a difference between a 10 year old playing Candy Crush and a 17 year old playing Overwatch / Fortnite / etc. Games "designed for adults" are still often purchasable by minors, so if this became law then there would need to be some new standard for carding kids and actually not selling/distributing games with microtransactions to people under 18.

Yeah we should have a social conservative Senator from Missouri that already believes in the "fake news" and that Facebook and Google are unfairly censoring far right voices now get into the regulating video game business. Nothing could go wrong at all and "gamerz" will cheer all the way because of "micro-transactions"

For the ID@Xbox sale, there are currently no countdowns yet that fit with the start of that sale.

I'm fine with straight purchase microtransactions.  I don't like real money loot boxes, where you aren't buying something but are buying a chance at something.  The ESA mentions the countries that say loot boxes aren't gambling, but they naturally don't mention the steps China and a couple other European countries have taken to reign in the practice.

Or maybe spending a billion dollars to have 300 devs from six studios working on a project isn't a financially sound business practice? AAA can burn in the dumpster fire it created, and I can get back to playing games that "would never sell" - like Dark Souls.

Small studios can 100% make games with fancy graphics and recoup their development costs within the first year without resorting to fleecing their more vulnerable customers.

Also, didn't a legislator from HI already propose something like this? Either way, I'll wait until it gets through one half of the legislature before I go counting my chickens that EA lootboxes are finished.

Played any Assassin's Creed lately? Shadow of War?
They're in the backlog and Shadow of War apparently got patched to be supposedly non micro transactiony so my point still stands! Mostly on the part of my backlog means I can also feign ignorance when necessary!

I Primarily play single player games so this whole microtransactions law thing doesn't effect me...

With that being said I do like seeing EA and Activision sweating over this.
Apparently you forgot Shadow of War launched with pay to win loot boxes until fans revolted and they removed them six months later.

edit: already ninja'd, that's what happens when you read 16 hours worth of posts at once.

Hell if they include mobile games in that bill on microtransactions, 90% of the App Store would be affected. And that does seem to be the focus.

So what your saying is, Apple will spend enough money to make sure this bill goes no where.

My wife and I have been playing Disney Emoji Blitz after listening to Shipwreck talk about it on the podcast.

Has anyone else been offered a free month of Game Pass in their rewards section on the Xbox console app?
Sounds like you completed the Operation Spymaster Quest.

Anybody else notice the 3 month Gamepass for $1 got extended? It showed less than a week before, now I see it has 15 days left. I'll probably pick it up around the end.

Yes, legislation is never good. But it is the threat that actually spurs action. Nothing will get passed, but like warning labels on music something will happen with the shitty ESA placating in a useless way.

For anyone's interest, or if you skimmed and didn't see, the article actually lists what games will be on sale, just no prices.
"This is just a taste of all the great games included in ID@Xbox Game Fest. The Gaming for Everyone theme will run from May 2 through to May 20, so jump in and start discovering the games behind these exceptional stories.

I don't think that's all the games at least that's my takeaway from that statement. It was kind of amusing to have that article about ID@XBOX Games like Gone Home, Night in the Woods, and The Old Man's Journey flanked on both sides by Sub Zero and Scorpion from Mortal Kombat.

i imagine the bill is being introduced to protect children from the allure of gambling, not to relieve gamers of the presence of lootboxes. i'm sure they'll rely on the esrb to sort it all out and then it will mean jack sh** like it does now.

I imagine it'd be easiest just to keep child accounts on Xbox/PS/Steam/Epic from being able to buy microtransactions with real money.
Of course then there's the issue of keeping the minors from buying game currency with real money.

After the 6 games that include a picture and quote it also says: See below for the rest of the games included in Game Fest this week:

Either the article is worded poorly or the sentence I copy/pasted is wrong. It says they're featuring 31 titles until the 20th but the list for "this week" is 31 titles long. So they either meant 31 titles a week, which I doubt, or the sentence I copied is incorrect and it's just all 31 titles until the 20th.

The article also says the super sale starts the 21st, after they show off the games that are featured and will be "highlighting even more games that have released through the ID@Xbox program."

The First Tree is on the list, hopefully it goes on sale as I've been wanting to pick it up. It's only $10 but with it most likely going in the backlog I don't want to pay full price.

Probably shouldn't share this because it will increase the odds, but....

Definitely a lot of potential pitfalls with this or any attempts at regulation of gaming. This kind of stuff is surely going to have the same issues that other technological topics have. You have primarily old people that have absolutely no idea how any of this stuff works or the nuances to them, while you have this rich corporations that can throw the money to "lobby" to have the laws work out in their own favor. Just look at what happened with net neutrality.

Even if something is passed into law there will surely be a bunch of loopholes the publishers will do their damnedest to discover which could easily make the law near worthless, and it opens the door to a lot of other potential issues with the government having their foot in the door, which could go either well or badly.

Still, I'm glad something real is at least being attempted, and I'd wager the mobile market has a hell of a lot more impact on minors than console/PC games as far as loot boxes go. But I have been in Xbox parties with minors that spend an INSANE amount of money on both Fortnite skins and Overwatch loot boxes, so I do see how widespread it is.

One other thing, minors aren't totally out of the equation for any consoles games in the US at least, since the 17 year old requirement on M rated games is still considered a minor. If this thing does pass, I think we'll just see more games shift over to cosmetic focused battlepasses and direct skin purchases like Fortnite, rather than have to deal with an higher ESRB rating or anything.

I was excited to see Wolfenstien II on Game Pass since I traded it in after about 3 hours of play with the hopes it would hook me the second time. I am starting to think I might not finish this game. I like the first one but the gameplay is just meh for me. I am not a fan of the "stealth" mechanics in this game and the whole kill the officer before he alarms. It is just not fun. The story has been ok at times if not a bit on the nose. Maybe if I take it in small chunks over the next few months I can get through it all.

Did you play stealth in new order? The second game give you the chance to stealth but don’t do it if you don’t like it. Just double weild and go to town. There will be a part where you get options that could help w diff playstyles so it seems game is trying to let you play how you want.

It looks like the $1 Game Pass deal has been extended until May 23rd or so. That's good news for me -- I don't have much time to play this month so I was planning to get it on the last day. Now I can get it a bit later.

Put it on easy and run and gun. It's much more fun that way. I tried stealth for the first couple hours. It got tedious.

I’d say put Wolfenstein on easy also. It’s one the harder shooters out on normal. Seems needlessly hard for no real payoff IMO.
