Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

LOL. Figured I would win since Dranakin sent me his extra one earlier. So in the spirit of continuing to pay things forward...

Like this post for a chance to win a copy of Rainbow Six Siege courtesy of gamegirlpocket and Dranakin!

I’ll let this go overnight and draw a winner in the morning.
Happy to have contributed to this giveaway!

Fortnite has a big event kicking off tomorrow. Special things in all three modes, a lot of free items in both Battle Royale and Save the World, and most of the special gametypes sound fun.

14 Days of Summer

In Battle Royale, each day will feature:
  • A weapon unvaulted for 24 hours only.
  • A new LTM to play (check out the full selection of LTMs that will debuting below).
  • A daily challenge and free reward.
  • New outfits and more in the Item Shop.
Sun’s out, fun’s out in Creative as well! Jump in daily for a new featured island.

Also in Save the World, complete a new quest every day to help Homebase host the hottest summer party around and score some summer freebies in the store. Complete quests to earn heaps of Summer Tickets; complete all 14 to unlock a new explosive weapon!

I really hope we get the new BC games on sale soon.

funny you mention those new bc games. i'm going through my disc collection and downloading them now.
Are you talking about the games announced at E3? I'm still working up the courage to install Ninja Gaiden II and try to finish it. For me, at least... this is why games never get finished. I still have the Witcher 3 about 40% complete sitting in my backlog. These games are already hard... and I know I will get it handed to me if I start back up in the middle of a playthrough

New Bloodstained status. Sounds like it will be safe to download the next patch that goes live, and they've held the actual version update back to try and figure out a workaround for the progression break:

"1.02 Chest Bug - Some players on PS4 who began a new game before downloading the 1.02 update have run into an issue where crates appear in the wrong open/closed state resulting in blocked progress. A new save is not affected.

* We are currently looking into solutions that will allow affected players to keep their progress. Since this bug would have affected Xbox One users when the update went live, we are holding off the Xbox One update.

(FYI, a small localization update, 1.004, is coming for Xbox. This is not connected to the current issue)."

Speaking of events, surprised I didn't see you post about the baptiste event. Not playing as much overwatch?

I played for the first time in a month over the last few days. Got the last few season placement matches completed, 9 wins for the skin and 9 losses and 1 win for free for all placements. Probably won't hop back on until summer games.

I probably should try to get on and grind out that skin since I think default Baptiste looks pretty boring. Not much has been sparking me to play for a while now on Overwatch. I've also not been a big fan of these "events" that are just win 9 games and a comic on their website, on top of the mostly recycled stuff for the past year. At least with the D.Va one it coincided with a new map.

I feel like I'm waiting for some major overhaul that's never coming, though I should check out the Workshop stuff. I've seen some pretty insane modes but the really out there ones were more gimmicks than anything. It does give me peak Halo Forge vibes, but I can't believe they've done all this crazy scripting stuff but still no map editor.

The gameplay meta staying stale for so long at a time has been keeping me away quite a bit, I just think they have some strange ideas for how they want to run the game that I suppose are long time Blizzard staples, for better or worse. I hope the Overwatch sequel we've been hearing rumblings about is good. If it really does have a co-op focus I think that has a lot of potential, especially for those like myself frustrated by the glacial pace of story and lore additions. Looking at the overall Blizzard picture has me concerned about their output in general. More high level employee departures, games with new ideas being canceled to focus on safer bets, a lot of speculation about the e-sports scene doing poorly with the somewhat obviously manufactured hype for OWL (especially after what happened with Heroes of the Storm).

Overall I just want something to entice me to come back and play more again. What really got me to play the game more than anything else at the beginning was how cool I thought the characters and world were, but after three years of pushing payloads with one 15 minute story mission coming out a year and a nearly 100% reliance on animated videos and comics as my options to engage with them, it's just not doing it for me now.

I don't know, I've been playing some form of online shooter heavily for about 12 or so years straight now. Halo, Gears, Left 4 Dead, Destiny, Overwatch, PUBG and now Fortnite. It seems I tend to move on when a solid sequel with improvements comes like Halo 3 to Reach sort of to Destiny 1, or Gears 2 to 3 to 4. The other extreme is when I become fed up with where the game/series goes (Halo 4, Destiny 2, PUBG). I guess the closest to my Overwatch experience would have been Left 4 Dead. Valve had pretty good support for about three years between the two games and DLC, but eventually I just played it enough and their was no real refresh so I dropped off. I think the other big factor here is having a personal community to play with. I only have one friend who still plays Overwatch primarily over everything else. I have a lot more fun when a good chunk of my friends list is on from time to time, or at least a full team.

More desperate Gamestop strategies leaking through. I'm curious if this will prove effective for them. If ever there was a worst possible game to test out this model with I'd guess it's Super Mario Maker 2. I feel like anyone buying this game on launch likely knows exactly what they're getting into. Either they're counting on buyer's remorse or maybe people unaware that online with friends isn't going to be there at launch. Though I suppose it makes more business sense to do this with a good game over something like Anthem.

So i can use my Best Buy GCU, walk over to Gamestop and make a profit? nice

Overwatch
Major additions or overhaul would be great in overwatch. I'm just playing during events right now, so the "get 9 wins" is fine with me even though it's a bit boring. Basically only having two game modes that aren't in arcade is getting a bit stale.

They had two new free for all modes last month which were interesting for like 4 rounds each but got old when I was in last place in all but 1 match.

It would be great if they added some of the workshop stuff into the regular rotation to mix things up.

I have next to no interest in OWL this year since the only bonus for the battle pass is twitch emotes where you have to spend more money to unlock some. If it had skins for the game or you earned tokens a little faster, I'd be more interested.

Have you tried World War Z? I only played for an hour or two after I picked it up during the E3 sale but enjoyed it and made me reminisce about left 4 dead.

And the random winner of the Rainbow Six Siege code is ecwfan!!

Thanks again to gamegirlpocket and Dranakin for their generosity!

PM incoming ecwfan

They actually did this back in April with "Days Gone" on the PS4. Which was a far riskier game since reviews coming out at the time were bad to middling. I wonder how it actually worked for them since after the initial wave of media/press reviews it seems to be a well liked game by average players by most accounts I've seen. Granted it had a ton of patches the first week.

I picked up The Council from last night's sale... that's about it. I missed it during the daily E3 sales so I'm glad I got another chance.
Is it cheaper now than during E3? I could've sworn it was $8.99 but I'm too lazy to back and look through the posts.

One of the only reasons it might be remotely viable is that the return is only good for trade credit, not cash. So that means more inventory gets moved if someone uses that credit to buy another game, ideally one also priced at ~$60, and then they have used copies of a brand new release to sell, which they technically make more profit on since they never gave any cash out for the return.

Remember when Gamestop started doing robo-calls begging you to sell them back copies of games that people usually kept? I got one for Skyward Sword to notify me of the trade value a few years ago, it's pretty pathetic. This is what happens when companies try to constantly expand and increase their profits instead of being content making a profit in general.

GameStop is also hot garbage so. Haven't shopped there for like 5 years.

I've only gone for cheap BC games when they would get announced or if they had a killer sale, which does happen occasionally. I get so tired of the upselling (what do you mean you don't want to preorder?!) and the marketing videos they run on repeat that it's easy to stay away. Last time I was there, the guy working said some really sexist things to me and that was the shit icing on the turd cake.

No way. Damn. I'm sorry.

I hated the upselling and their constantly shady nature. Never wanted to honor warranties and giving misinformation. I'm an adult who's gamed my whole life. It was just too much to deal with the people there. In my experience the regular floor people were ok and just trying to do their jobs. The managers were the shady ones.

Yeah. Dude saw me looking at some clearance merch and said things like, "Hey sweeteheart, just wanna make sure you know those are 30% off" or some shit. I pretended not to hear him and he did it again with something similarly obnoxious. I'm sure he speaks to his male customers that way, right?

Other than that, GS employees have always been notoriously uninformed, whether it comes to new systems or releases (had one guy try to convince me in early 2018 the PS5 had already been announced) or their own sales. That or they're bored and hate their jobs and are just fucking with people. Honestly, that would make it all okay.

Only bad experience with gamestop I had was through a friend who bought a used game and it just didn't work when she put it in her console. When she took it back the employee working said she should've bought the warranty and there was nothing they could do. She knew someone at another location who told her that person either didn't know what they were talking about or they lied to her. She took it to that person's store and returned it no problem.

The constant upselling can be annoying but it mostly sucks because it's forced upon employees and they can get in trouble when they don't do it.

I'll go once or twice a year for stuff that isn't video games.

I can't stand their practice of selling me an opened game as "new". Finally got them back a couple weeks ago. All 8 stores in my area had only 1 copy of Plague Tale in stock. All 8 were gutted "new" copies. So I bought it, they "sealed" it in their terrible plastic sleeve, which I carefully opened without any tears, got the full 1000 gamerscore, put right back in their sleeve, resealed, and returned for my full purchase price back.

I would encourage everyone to do the same. It's a BULLSHIT practice and theres ZERO reason for it. Tell me one good reason why they need to open a game at all?

EA put out a different video for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Personally I will never doubt Respawn so I wasn't as down on the E3 showing as a lot of people, but I'm even more sold on the game now after the first 6 minutes of this new Video.

Because they are too cheap to invest in plastic prisons or display boxes. From a gamer's perspective, none - but that is how Gamestop has always rolled. One would think the consistently higher priced, game specific store would be more interested in satisfying their speciality.

You already explained why they do it. Every store only had one copy of the game. So they have to put the case on the shelf, otherwise how would customers even know they have the game? If you wanted a popular game or reserved your copy, obviously it would be sealed. They're not going to stock more than the bare minimum for an extremely niche title like that.

In no way shape or form did I explain why. There are a multitude of other ways to display a game. Hell, they had 8 "cases" on the shelf for Borderlands 3. A game that hasn't released yet. You know how they did it? By using a generic case and a printout. I don't need to take home a case that 150 other people had their hands all over and a disc that god knows how many employees already tested out. I've yet to hear a GOOD reason for gutting yet. I'll keep waiting lol

Is this the complain about GS thread?  Anyway if you're returning things as new after completing them I say you and GS are a perfect shady match.  If it bothers you just don't buy it.

We found the undercover GameStop "manager.".

GTFO here with trying to explain their shady practices.

Those "cases" for Borderlands 3 you're talking about are paid for by the publisher of the game. It's advertising for them. Nintendo did a similar thing where they had GS display a metric ton of empty boxes when Switch launched - most stores didn't even have the system in stock.

A generic case and printout for every game they sell? They would need a lot more real estate since now they're keeping the original cases behind the counter instead of just the discs. Not to mention, most people don't know enough about most games - the case itself is designed by the publisher to entice customers to buy the game. If you were the publisher for a game, would you be happy about a black and white sheet of paper with just the game title and no screenshots, press quotes, or art to display your game?

Yeah, I'm a GS manager. You got me, Colombo. I'm glad GS has a bad reputation for most people since it allowed me to rake in literally thousands in trade credit for nothing, which definitely couldn't have happened if everyone liked shopping there.

While we're bitching about GameStop, let me just say that the videos they're always running drip with the same phony, young adult targeted pseudo-enthusiasm that I remember from Channel One in high school. I wonder how many showers the people in those videos have to take to feel clean afterwards.

Well over here not a single Game is sealed in Gamestop. ALL new games are already openend. It's not only niche titles so that bare minimum thing is pure BS. Also scandals like employees taking new Games to play at their home and then return them to work selling them as new titles made quite a few newspaper lines over here...

Well that certainly explains why every Best Buy I walk into has opened copies of all their games. As well as Walmart, Target, the Microsoft Store, etc etc etc.

What a dumb response...

I'm also done clogging this thread with any replies. The troll will get no food from me.

I'm sure if you calculate the time, gas, etc wasted on flipping crap back and forth between GameStop it's nowhere as much as you think. Opportunity Cost. I have a good job that allows me to not have to go to GameStop. You do you. If you love it there great but don't try to excuse the garbage things they do because it benefits you.

Forgive me if this has been asked and answered, but where are these found? Is it on the console only, because I'm not seeing them in the game pass app.

All those retailers you mentioned sell games at a loss or for cost to get people in the door. Do you think GS should do that? It's not a coincidence that they all had to scrap their 20% off discount programs.

This is coming from the thread that vigorously defends Microsoft Rewards, literally pennies a day? You're right that it's not worth the effort at GS anymore, but until fairly recently, you would actually make hundreds in profits the last weekend of every month. This went on for years. I'm still steadily converting my trade credit into Amazon credit after all this time. Anytime you see discounted Xbox gift cards in the trade forums here, this is where it likely came from. Because GS sells Xbox credit in any denomination as low as $5.

Gamestop practices don’t bother me I’m grown lol I know how to say “no thanks.” And that’s it

Lol at being bother by what they play on their TVs.

lolololol I Didn't even bother reading the rest because I already know this will be a bad and dumb take to compare MS rewards to whatever it is we're bitching about Gamestop.

What is this week's featured game?

And noob question: what are daily sets? Whenever I click on that button/tile in the console app, it tries to load up the browser. I do not use Edge and do not have it configured so I always immediately quit out whenever I see the Edge logo. Are the daily sets things that you have to do online and not something gaming/console related?
