Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

I wouldn't be surprised if the patch changed the difficulty of the first boss, since I've played basically every 2D game since SotN and the mechanics are all very familiar.

I think I died once or twice, I really don't think the opening was that hard, but I play a lot of Metroidvanias. Some of the bosses are hard, but it's either learn their patterns, bring a lot of healing, or grind enough to tank the hits.
You can also cheese it pretty easily if you experiment with shards and collect / upgrade a lot of them. Or, you could say the game rewards players who really dig into the ability system. One of the shards I'm using (I'll look up the name when I'm playing again) does about 40 dmg per second and has wasted every single boss I've fought since I upgraded it.

I imagine Capn Bragn is s*@#ing himself right now seeing all this off-topic BS and nothing is "being handled" by the mods
As long as people are talking about games playable on xbox, I'm not going to bother. Still a damn sight better than feet, fast food, and fantasy foosball. I also wouldn't say nothing has been handled, I have noticed a couple times where the post count changed when mods have deleted posts I flagged.

Sad to see Vermintide leaving GP. I haven't played in months, but I had a lot of fun with that one. Kinda hesitant now to pick up the new Mutant Year Zero dlc and kicking myself for not buying Everspace while it was on sale...

This summer sale better put the god damned Arcade Cabinet on sale! The dlc has been on sale like 3 times since I caved and bought it, and now the base game sits at full price mocking me. The life of a CAG is fraught with perils. You've been warned.

Still gotta play The Turing Test, Crackdown 3 & watch Stranger Things S2 n 3, The Godfather series(since I haven't seen any), the Rocky movies(since I haven't seen any)......damn. the backlog is too real
Skip The Godfather part 3; 1 & 2 are complementary and a perfectly contained arc-- 3 is trash. Also, spread your viewing of the Rocky movies out a bit; watching them all together was a little boring as there is a lot of similar story beats. Might as well add Creed and Creed 2, too.

Trying to decide which game I should start next after I finish Metro Exodus (which is great, but I like the Metro Redux duo better): Wolfenstein 2 on GP, AC Origins, Mafia 3, Ori, Watch Dogs 2, small GP indies, or small backlog indies. I try to complete what I start and sometimes face decision paralysis when starting a new big game.

I second the Creed movies. I absolutely love them and honestly like them better than the Rocky movies and I grew up on Rocky.

Also, give Watch Dogs 2 a try. The story is pretty light (think hacker power fantasy Summer popcorn movie type stuff) but the gameplay is so good. And the way Marcus parkours around San Francisco, it almost feels like a modern day Assassin’s Creed.

Discovered last night that basically all passive shard abilities in Bloodstained can become 'skill shards' meaning they don't need to be equipped to use them, and then proceeded to item hunt for maxing out as many as possible.

The Creed films are seriously good, and manage to stand on their own despite being based entirely in the Rocky lore.

Supposedly.

If you haven't patched, you're good to start, supposedly, because the next patch will fix the bad patch. If you have patched, you should be good to start because the bug won't apply to you.

Is Bloodstained safe to play now?
Well.... you don't want to get all the achievements yet if that's your thing. You might want to leave at least a couple. Right now on the Xbox it has the dreaded glitched "Get every other Achievement" achievement that isn't popping for anyone. Which is sadly a common problem on a lot of Xbox titles and doesn't always get fixed. Looks even more dire when people from TrueAcheivements reached out to 505 games about the issue and their response was "That's a platinum trophy for PS4 and not in the Xbox version" so just as clueless when they kept saying the 7gb patch last week was just for localization and not going to break the "green chests" for players that already started when it in fact did. Seems to be a lot of communication issues between the publisher 505 and whomever is responsible for the actual development.

All that aside, you can totally play the game front to back and see everything and do all the good stuff, and never worry about it at this point.

Dang, there's a lot to Bloodstained that isn't spelled out too well, and I certainly appreciate the posts with such info.
I kind of like it since you can stumble on things and it changes how you play based on what you put time into. It's that retro charm where there's a lot of depth and it doesn't hold your hand, but the more you explore, the more you're rewarded.

Another thing I learned - crafting recipes for items become available as their base items are acquired. I couldn't find the Flame Circlet for one of the quests, then realized if I buy the basic Circlet, the alchemy guy suddenly had recipes for the elemental Circlets.

They definitely borked the patch rollout, it seems, but yes, the impression seems to be if you're starting it now, it should be fine. I'm a little paranoid that when the new patch comes out on Wednesday or Friday it'll break something else. I've also experienced a consistent crash when going between screens to where the farmer who grows seeds for you is. In both directions, if the game has been on awhile, it crashes when transitioning screens.

When I boot it up again, everything works fine. Very strange, but it's predictable, and I save like my life depends on it out of habit for games like this anyway. I wonder how many people who haven't played many retro platformers like this have lost lots of progress because there's no auto-saving between sections etc.

Discovered last night that basically all passive shard abilities in Bloodstained can become 'skill shards' meaning they don't need to be equipped to use them, and then proceeded to item hunt for maxing out as many as possible.
If you then equip a passive shard that you also have a skill version of, the effect will stack making it doubly effective.

Dang, there's a lot to Bloodstained that isn't spelled out too well, and I certainly appreciate the posts with such info.
This one is actually described in game, it's in the archive info and I think it pops up as a tutorial thing the first time you get a passive shard, or maybe in the upgrade tutorial. There are a ton of things that aren't really detailed anywhere though, like many of the item and weapon effects.

I never had that, but a few soft-locks when talking to Johannes so I started be extra careful about saving. I know Switch has crashes when opening books sometimes. Are you playing on an X or regular Xbox?

No crashes for me so far, but I did have trouble on the menu when first creating a profile. Directional inputs stopped working. Can't remember what I did to get around it but I think I just had to restart the game until it worked.

I definitely had hard crashes to dashboard after that patch and didn't previously, I don't recall having them on that part in the village, but I could replicate it pretty consistently looking at the book shelves after playing awhile. Old days they would call that a "memory leak" maybe?

EDIT: even before I post I see Six Minute mentioning the book crashes, and I have them and playing on the X

The saving reminds me of another thing I like about the game is the map is really well thought out, there is usually another save or warp room just around the corner if you forge ahead, but if your chicken always can just use a waystone to go back and save what you have.

Yeah, the map is pretty well designed. There are a ton of ways to do sequence breaks and even then it still seems like the game remains pretty fair. It is kind of lame how trivialized some areas become once you get one or more of the traversal modifiers like Invert, but that's pretty standard for the genre. I really love this game and am looking forward to all the free stuff coming, for now I might hold off of a bit and go through SOTN, which I've never actually played all that far into, though I do want to update and try to 100% the shards and items so maybe I'll do that first.

I was just looking at what's coming for the remaining DLC and Rouge-like Dungeon is probably the biggest thing for me. If this is essentially an official randomizer then that should be pretty awesome, though I'm not really sure if it means a big explorable area or what. To be fair the 8-bit level was a goal and while cool that area is very small, basically 5 or 6 screens. There are also a bunch of multi-player features coming like co-op and versus, which I think are both online. I am curious what "Classic Mode" could be. There was also a "Boss Revenge" mode listed separately from Boss Rush, so maybe that's a higher difficulty? That launch trailer already shows a shot or two of playable Zengetsu, so maybe that's coming pretty soon.

I really wish I didn't care as much about Xbox Achievements as I do...

Why I'm able to ignore Steam achievements and just play the game, but on Xbox it changes my gaming behavior? I'm also fine playing Games that don't even have achievements like playing on my 3DS..

There are games I haven't started because of unobtainables or just because they have such a high ratio that it will takes ages to finish them to 100% completion (although I played some of them to a 100% and it took ages lol) even though my stats aren't even that great, because empty MP lobbies, server closures, DLCs being pulled from the marketplace affected my games and their score already, also some ridicioulus hard achievements I just know Iw ill never get, which may be the last one to finish to a 100%, which I kinda accepted. Back in the 360 days I stocked up on cheap arcade Games just because they were cheap and easy, but a lot of them are even unplayed by now. (At least I buy much less games since I use my Xbox One and onl games I really want to play at some point nit just because they are cheap or easy 1000G)

Why am I writing this? I guess I just want to find a way playing Xbox Games again without looking at achievements...just enjoy and not worry to miss something following particular guides to a point where it spoils everything.

Just got back from Spider-Man. Liked it, didn't love it. Elaborate spoilers and thoughts in the MCU thread.

On an X1S. Over on r/bloodstained, folks are reporting a consistent, reproduceable crash at the final boss (many on an X). Those who have encountered it said there was A LOT on screen when it happens and they switched out shards which had less effects going on. Definitely sounds like a memory issue.

Remember when Yacht Club Games put out Shovel Knight one platform at a time so it could be as play-tested as possible? To be fair to Iga, this game is massive and it's impossible to bug-test for all scenarios, and their budget probably didn't allow for as much as they would have if he was still with Konami.

My destiny 2 people, who is buying shadow keep? Is it because you buy everything destiny or because you’re hyped about something new? I’m feeling kind of blah on it all lately and am thinking of sitting it out.

I'll probably get it, play it a ton for a few weeks, and then tap out again. I still like Destiny but playing it every day for months is more Destiny than I need at this point. I'm fine to dip in every once in a while for big expansions and the like.

I was at Guardian Con yesterday in Orlando, and the hype for Shadowkeep is pretty strong. While I’m not the biggest D2, I will definitely give the new expansion a look.

My cousin who I gameshare with said he'll buy me Shadowkeep if they bring back the Bad Juju. If not I'll probably skip it.

I didn't even know that was a thing! I know the Halo Waypoint tour is at the convention center this weekend. Would have loved to go, but we're saving money.

Guardian Con was right down the street from the Halo event. Bungie was present with Shadowkeep and Crucible, as well as Gearbox with the Borderlands 3 demo. Really good event that overall raised $4M for St. Jude’s.

Btw get hyped for Borderlands...the demo was legit!

I'm getting Shadowkeep plus the three additional Season Passes as soon as I can get to GameStop and get more X-bux.

Did you play any Crucible there? If so, is it any different than what we have today?

Thanks for those who mentioned that the Forza PC Game Pass quest can be completed on console. Can also confirm now. Was super lucky and got a Forza edition car from a spin so that popped an achievement for me and I got the 500 points.

Yeah I played a couple of Crucible matches (the wait was 1+ hours the entire day) and the only new-ish thing was having the Lumina in-game. Nothing related to Shadowkeep was hands-on.

The reason for the wait was each Crucible game played earned you a tangible Drifter coin to keep, as well as an exclusive in-game emblem called The Moon Stirs. You could then gamble it to play a competitive 6v6 Control match. Winning that got you a limited single-print lapel pin (apparently 1300 were made and that’s it). Last time I checked, the Drifter coin and emblem together were selling on eBay for $170-220.

I finished my first battle pass in a game, the Hunt Pass in Dauntless without purchasing the skip-ahead bundle (so I did 0-50 instead of 15-50). Achievement said 0.86% gamers had unlocked. Nifty emote and title. Well worth the $5 I paid for the welcome bundle.

I keep thinking I should start Dauntless, then I feel the shame of having bought Monster Hunter World when it was on sale for $39.99 and now on Game Pass and never starting it.

I think something's wrong with my Miriam; she's getting intimidated by the boss. Like my 7 yr old tells me stuff: there's a good news and there's a bad news. Good news: my miriam is stronger than she was before and have little to no trouble getting around; bad news: I met the first boss. The game is fun, I'll give you that. I'll stick around and see where it goes with miriam.

So anyways, I met the boss and wasnt in the best state of mind; ended up purchasing and starting ME: Andromeda. Its...Ok. Either I'm right at the beginning and the game is supposed to grow on me (no, not ON me); or, its just how the game is and I bought it for no reason. Either ways, its done.

anyone play the Division 2? thinking of up it up for $20 at gamestop..seems like a good deal but the game dropped to $20 quickly it seems

If you ever want to amp up the frustration and difficulty of playing a guacamelee 2, hollow knight, etc. have a 4 year old watch you play. The constant comments about how you died there, shouldn’t jump into that as you struggle to platform are a great test of patience.

Andromeda definitely starts off slow. Once you have the Nomad and get 10 sidequests every 30 seconds, it picks up. Combat is excellent.

Also, MS Store has the 4k Batman movies from the 90s for $8 each:

It's better than my 7yr old, who starts with "you're going to die" before I even encounter the first enemy. And then he gets frustrated that I am not doing enough - "Are you kidding me, you are unbelievable" is his constant complaint.

You ever let them try? Or is the risk, however remote, that they might actually pull it off prevent you from handing over the controller?

Its bad as it is, he snatches the controller at every opportunity he gets. Plays overwatch all the time, the platformers not so much. I got him to play Yoku's and he's getting good at that.

If he gets his hands and finishes something I have had trouble with, he will not let me live. I dread the day...

My 4 year old lives and loves rocket league. He likes to watch me play other things and provide commentary but he’s not so good at them. In new Super MARIO bros. U he just makes a mainline for the right side of the screen, sacrificing the other three players.
