Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

No luck here either with that yet, would be nice. I can easily do Steam stuff to my TV, even without the actual Steam Link hardware just through the Samsung App. But yeah no luck with the "Miracast" thing yet. Says my computer doesn't support it also. I have a Radeon 470 RX something or other whatever. I dunno if it's good enough or not, runs an Oculus headset for me.
I think a lot of it (Miracast) has to do with drivers for both video and WiFi card. I’ve spent way too much time trying to figure it out and the internet in general seems genuinely confused about it too. I can use steam link to stream my desktop and launch the game, but then I can’t use a controller because it has to go through the steam overlay. If Microsoft is truly dedicated to PC gaming I hope they allow it to be streamed in home a little easier.

So the leveling in the new Apex battle pass is worse than in season 1. I hate wacky challenges.

I still don't understand Miracast or any of the streaming. There was an app that worked beautifully, but they stopped supporting it a few years ago. Very annoying when I want to watch video that isn't supported through Edge on console.

Got home to a message from Xbox gifting me a Realm Royale 1st anniversary pack of 200 crowns and a chicken skin. Best of both, currency and my favorite feature.

In the you may also like is something called Cuisine Royale. It looks..... shockingly competent. The description is promising with interesting features and the trailer is nuts but seems to show a solid game.

Mostly excited for My Time at Portia coming to Game Pass. Having recently come back to Xbox as my primary console after a year or two on PS4, the value of Game Pass is pretty insane, especially after taking advantage of the Ultimate $1 promo.

There was pretty mass bitching due to the lack of challenges before. They seem like they went a bit overboard with the weekly requirements though since many of them take a while. The point of challenges in my mind is to make it so you don't have to grind for hours and hours every week to get through the battlepass. I wouldn't say things like "get 20 downs with Bangalore" or "500 shotgun damage" are wacky though.

Bloodstained news, hopefully final major bug update. Other platforms have different news so hit the link if you want info.

Chest Bug
Xbox One (Status: Fix Incoming)
Treasure chest issues have been fixed; after the patch, unique items will be obtainable even on existing playthroughs.
The patch for this should be submitted today (Wednesday), and we anticipate public release on Friday or Saturday.
The teams are also working on additional improvements and bug fixes.

"Iga's Back Pack" DLC
Xbox One (Status—DLC being tested)
Testing will happen next week, if completed successfully we will submit and have an updated ETA for release during the week of July 15, 2019.

Map Improvements:
  • Map close button has been remapped to standard exit/close button
  • Marker button has been changed
  • Trail display button has been changed
  • Map scroll speed improved
  • Zoom in and zoom out improved
  • Zoom level retained when reopening the map
  • Auto-center when opening the map
Bug fix:
  • No longer displaying enemies for completed quests
  • Fixed items getting stuck on walls/geometry
  • The functionality of waiting until the item is collected automatically has been left in, in case the issue persists.

I beat Arkham City on gamepass but one of the side missions says Mission not started and so by Googling I figured it out that I haven't done the augmented reality Mission yet.

Problem is is that the mission never popped up for me. It was supposed to happen pretty early in the game and it never did. I have Googled on how to try to activate it but it doesn't really seem to be anything about it. A couple of people have had the same problem I am having but they didn't get a solution. Did I stumble upon a rare glitch or something?

You get a weapon upgrade from completing the mission but I can't get that weapon or complete the mission because it simply won't start. I went to the area where it's supposed to be on the map and there is nothing there. Any help would be appreciated. The only suggestion I've seen is to just start new game plus and see if it works but I'd be starting over and I don't want to do that. This is the only side mission I haven't done.

You did the research, either play it or don't. Answer doesn't change when nobody gives a shit.

The Apex Challenges seem fairly easy so far, I popped yesterday’s in about 3-4 matches, which seems much easier then playing for 2 hours for 1 level.

challenges are easy but levels are not as much. Use to get like 10 levels a day or more on double xp for battle pass. Im only level 10 right now prolly would be at 15 or more on the old system. Once you hit the cap you gotta get 54k for another bp level and I don't think that resets for a week.

Playing Metal Gear Survive and playing one or two missions a day and getting the daily loot so the whole water conservation for me be like...

I'm sure exactly what they had in mind.

The new system gates the progression. Get the freebie battle pass levels from the easy challenges and then wait for the weekly reset. Anybody that skips a couple weeks of playing will be in for a big grind to catchup in the end because of the higher exp for levels. They'll probably have some bonus exp events again during the season to help out with that though.

Finally playing Bloodstained, and it's everything I was hoping it would be. The GBA and DS Castlevania games are some of my favorite games ever made (alongside Metroid) and this game really is a proper sequel to Symphony of the Night.

pro-tip, dig into the food making crafting portion early. On the left hand side, bottom corner it shows the permanent one time stat boost it gives you. Magic regen is nice and it kind of seemed broken with how little you get by default, a little boost there helps out a lot. You can go overboard and kind of break it and make yourself damn near immortal, that's fun also though.

Bloodstained is awesome from what little I have played so far but I suck. Haven’t been able to get past the first boss, lol.

I too wish RF Guerrilla ReMarstered comes to Game Pass. Got a sliver of hope still, considering we got the Return to Arkham Remastered duo on GP. Fond memories of RF Guerrilla and blowing shit into a million pieces

This is mainly true. I just discovered the character specific towers that unlock lots of gear and character skins + brutalities & intros/outros. Those require a certain amount of fatalities, brutalities, krushing blows, fatal blows, etc to be performed to unlocked a certain section in a tower......but overall, yes. The majority of towers of time can be completed via AI grinding. There is no denying its a chore to unlock everything. Don't get me started on the random BS grind in the Krypt

Edit: also the season one online touranament grind to unlock exclusive skins. I win about 2 of 5 matches online(gotta get that daily bonus), so its brutal trying to level up. Takes 500 points to level up(there is 9 tiers) and you only get points for winning. 40 points per win x2 means i get 80 a day or 120 if I'm good. Only 12 days left to climb 6 tiers which is about 3,000 points. And five best of three matches takes 45 mins daily. Yeah, not gonna get all those exclusive skins
Oh, I don't disagree that everything is a grind in MK11. Just was curious if you meant the towers and how those can be gamed a bit.

So if anyone remembers, I was having some issues with my One X shutting itself down to overheating while playing MK11 a while back. The issue stopped, so I didn't think much of it until it popped back up while playing Darskiders Warmastered Edition. Anywho, broke it down and rebuilt it a couple of weeks back; applied some new thermal paste after scrapping the old off and giving everything a good dust off. Took ~3 hours due to some issues I ran into with the case and the little plastic hooks and some screws. So far, results are positive: quieter and no shutdowns since.

I’ve been working on the Game Pass quests and I’m really liking what I’ve played of Hollow Knight and Astroneer. I also plan to keep on playing Void Bastards. I deleted MHW and soon as I got an achievement, though. Not my type of game.

Why the heck would they only have voice acting on PC? I know nothing about this game aside from it sorta being Stardew/Animal Crossing/Harvest Moon-ish.

It's been awhile since I lost sleep to a game, but I was up past 12:30 with Bloodstained and usually have to get up before 6am for work. I guess I know what I'm doing all weekend.

Yep, saw that pretty quickly, it's a really well-designed system and tracks what you've already used. Addicted.

If it makes you feel better, I died 3-4 times fighting the first boss too. I recommend getting a soul crystal from each enemy in the first area and trying them out, the one from the large guy who swings the mace does a lot of damage. Wait until the boss is in the center of the screen, jump up, and spam it, then attack with your weapon when MP runs out. Otherwise just avoid the projectiles.

I died on the first boss a couple of times, even went back and grinded out a few kevels before I beat it. Was surprised by the early death, typically these games arent that difficult in the early parts.

Death in video games always surprises me even though I'm mediocre at best.

Especially these metroidvania games where I feel like I have pressed the right buttons but somehow the controller doesnt tell the game what I want done exactly. You goddamn controller, you shouldve seen what happened to the last two. These things never learn, I tell ya...

Wait, those one time things are permanent? I was thinking it was more like BotW and they were a temporary thing! Definitely looking more into it tonight.

I finished Bloodstained a couple days ago. Last night I went an 100%ed the map. I want to wrap up by getting all of the food items at least and then probably update and do the rest of the completion stuff on New Game +. I am curious how the other characters being added will work, if they'll just be swapped in with Miriam still the cutscene star, or if they're full replacements with the story from their point of view. I would guess at least Zengetsu will be pretty different since he doesn't use shards. Having an exact tool set would make the game feel pretty different, especially if he doesn't get multiple weapons.

I totally busted the item crafting system late in my playthrough. With the right combination of equipment and Shards you can get what seems to be double or triple the output for what you're crafting, then break down everything with alkahest to have way more resources than you started with, and repeat a few times to have tons of resources. It's extremely powerful since you can just buy more alkahest at 50 gold each, so you can craft all the food, resources for upgrading some shards, most of the equipment. I guess it was nerfed in the patch that's out, raising the gold price of alkahest, lowering the amount of them that enemies drop, and making it so food crafting only maxes out with double items. This sounds like it's still pretty viable , but the need to grind for more gold likely makes buying food more profitable for a lot of stuff. It should be more worth it for the rare/expensive ingredients though.

Right now, alkahest costs 800 gold. I figure costs may go down with items or abilities but I'm guessing the cost difference is part of the patch.

Oh, if it goes that high it's prohibitively expensive. It might still be useful to try and make duplicate weapons but that's about it at that price. Seems like it's more about fixing mistakes or trashing stuff with good ingredients that you don't want, which was probably the intention to begin with. The flying paintings also drop alkahest, I think up to 5 per drop, so that could be a decent alternative as there are a few good farming spots for them, though I'd imagine they made the drops more rare or nerfed the amount.

I don't have all the shards and items but I haven't seen anything that lowers the shop price yet, just one that increases how much your stuff sells for. I have heard of some ways to farm ridiculous amounts of gold, but don't really want to go that route. I'd guess those have been or will be patched as well.

Guess I'll stock up on everything I can before updating.

Yeah what it shows on the bottom right is an even more beneficial temp buff for some reason listed "Total Bonus", doesn't seem to last that long but maybe food dependent, good for a boss fight or whatever. What it shows on the bottom left corner says "1st Time Bonus" and those are permanent buffs, so I was maxing up MP Regen and Luck, just to find more items.

Yeah they skyrocketed the prices on those and there was even a certain place that seemed to drop a 5x stack pretty regularly that last few times I checked haven't got a 1 to drop, so some way to fix some of the exploitable stuff in the crafting system especially when using Alchemic Bounty and save files trying to get double items. There is an item that you can buy that does lower shop costs but might not show up until a Clear of the game. Even then it's enough of a chunk of money up front I haven't bought it yet.

So I have Windows running on a 2012 MacBook Pro and I was like, sure, let’s see if Forza will run so I can get the Game Pass quest and some easy points. Welp, no luck, crappy video card or some such nonsense. So I’m looking around the GP app and I notice Ori, which I love love love, and I’m like, I’ll play this again, maybe it’ll be a separate achievement list and I can play through the game for a 4th set of achievements (played the normal version on my fiancé’s account - haven’t done the Definitive yet in the hopes she might play it some day). So I load it up, and I’m like, hey, the prologue, I don’t remember if there’s an achievement for playing it, but let’s do it anyway, why not. And I’ll tell you why not, friends: because that prologue is sad as all hell and I was damn near losing my s*** for 15 minutes ready to cry my eyes out. Then I got to a place where I could safely save and realized that the achievement list is, alas, not separate. I guess it’s a Play Anywhere title or something. Anyway, here I am, crying on this hot summer eve with no new achievements to show for it.

TL;DR Ori and the Blind Forest is amazing and will make you cry whether you like it or not.

It is highly suspected that if you unlock an achievement in the Xbox version of a game that has a shared list you will get the quest checked off. I unlocked on in FH4 which I do not have installed on PC and I got the quest checked off.

You mean I installed that 78 gigabytes, twice, and then it needed another update, then it crashed to desktop, then I finally got in a game and it wouldn't recognize my Fortune Island DLC or Lego DLC for nothing?

So I started Bloodstained and discovered two things:

a) Bug: if there are multiple profiles signed in, the game wouldn't start. There can only be 1 active profile on the console when you start the game.

b) I dont really need a boss to down me. I hope there is an achievement for the character to die X number of times. If its 50, I think I'm half way there. Yet to finish the tutorial. :)

I imagine Capn Bragn is s*@#ing himself right now seeing all this off-topic BS and nothing is "being handled" by the mods

Gonna play some more Guacamelee 2 to wrap up a MS quest reward and it's a damn fine game if I say so myself. Will eventually get around to Guac 1 sometime next year. Still gotta play The Turing Test, Crackdown 3 & watch Stranger Things S2 n 3, The Godfather series(since I haven't seen any), the Rocky movies(since I haven't seen any)......damn. the backlog is too real

Hmm with all this stuff about the first boss "owning" people in Bloodstained, I wonder if something wacky happened with it in the latest patch.  While I think the game Bloodstained itself is fantastic, I think all the stuff surrounding it like broken patches and weird fixes has been pretty laughable. I wouldn't put it past them at all to maybe have a number or something off on that first boss now. I'll give it a go on a brand new save file see if I see anything weird.

Shantae 5's opening was animated by Studio Trigger, who did Kill La Kill, Little Witch Academia, and Darling in the Franxx. The opening is pretty awesome, though I don't think we've actually seen the game itself yet. They're also doing an opening for Indivisible, so they must be somewhat affordable for these indie devs to be working with them.

I think I died once or twice, I really don't think the opening was that hard, but I play a lot of Metroidvanias. Some of the bosses are hard, but it's either learn their patterns, bring a lot of healing, or grind enough to tank the hits.

Confirming here too. Just mopped up an achievement on Lego Forza since I had all the other achievements in the base game and got the quest and the points via the Xbox version.

Yeah I just wanted to see if things had changed. I know i didn't die the first time, and through a bit of unscientific method i just went 0 for 3 on beating her. Ha the 3rd time I was like alright I'm going to get serious and use my potions and what not. Tentacles seem to be a lot bigger factor than I remember when I played against her before, and I was wailing on her for awhile so maybe bigger health pool. When the 1.00.4 or whatever they called it patch went live I did see enemies start doing moves they hadn't done before. I had already one game clear under my belt at that point so could be some changes/fixes like that.

Which Bloodstained game is everyone talking about? The one that was just GWG or the one that was a new release last month?

Also, stay safe SoCal CAGs. These earthquakes are getting gnarly.

The one that came out a couple weeks ago, Bloodstained:Ritual of the Night is the Castlevania: Symphony of the Night one. The one last year Bloodstained:Curse of the Moon was more comparable to regular 8bit Castlevania.

WOW!

Kinda awesome. Even if you hadn't have said something, I would have been like "Wow, this looks a lot like "Kill la Kill"".
