Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Apex stuff: Was also bummed to hear you stop getting loot crates every level. The website says loot crates will be in the battle pass, I'm curious how many. To me it looks like you have to pay for cosmetics once you get the 45 Apex passes from leveling up since you only earn legend tokens after level 100. The tokens can be used to unlock characters or the store exclusive skins that require 10+ hours of playing to get enough tokens and an $18 purchase to unlock. I am a fan that you can't get duplicates though, so that's nice.

I feel it goes on sale every couple of months and I get tempted. I need to go back and try it again, I've played it a couple of times since it came out. Played the tutorial when it came out and then randomly a few months ago for about an hour. Thought it was funny when the achievement for having a paladins account longer than a year popped.
The one hope about the leveling loot boxes is that your level will reset reset every season like Fortnite, but it's also possible they'll just have a free portion of the the BattlePass that lets you unlock some. I think we do have to keep a fair comparison for these. Other games with regular lootboxes for leveling are generally paid, like Overwatch or Destiny. If you compare it to Fortnite's free unlocks it's more generous as they only give a few free items per BP, and the occasional event stuff, and never let you get free skins. On the other side of the coin, Apex's boxes are filled with lots of trash like banner items and character lines to make it harder to get the character and weapon skins, much like Overwatch's many sprays and voice lines.

I've had fun with Paladins but it does feel more jank than Overwatch due to it's much smaller budget and HiRez simply not holding their output to the same standards as Blizzard. It's also subject to massive rebalancing whenever the devs feel like it. There was a patch that completely changed the card loadout system and pissed off the majority of the playerbase to the point they eventually reverted it. The newly added crossplay and cross progression is a big positive against OW now though.

I'm pretty bitter about the first darkness going on sale regularly now just a week or so after I purchased it full price after years of it having no sales

but let's be honest that applies to a lot of my/our collection and I/we never learn

Thanks, I'm trying, but I keep getting errors. Not sure if it's my connection or Microsoft's.

Guess I'll just have to wait and find out. Game Pass isn't letting me download anything right now.
Could try the XBOX app on mobile devices too. It'll give you the option to install with Gamepass. Hopefully works out for you before Friday.

I typically find them on the Xbox My Games and Apps section, under the Ready to Install stuff.

That or the previously mentioned phone app.

Only for Bioshock 1. Just way more detailed compared to the 360 and smoother all around.

The rest of the games are only minor graphical upgrades I believe.
Framerates are better, and textures are much higher resolution. They don't change any of the gameplay, including the clunky save system in Bioshock 1, but they sure are pretty. The Bioshock remasters are my go-to example for a remaster done well vs upscaled ports, and for $15 ($5 per game, with all DLC) it's easy to recommend if anyone is hankering for a replay.

60 FPS is the biggest upgrade. You can actually hit 60 FPS with the BC 360 version of because it has an unlock framerate option, but some of the physics on stuff in the environment get wonky. I never looked up the comparisons until now but they did improve some models and the like up to the PC standard, but they changed the lighting and some effects are missing, giving the game a different look. Details from Digital Foundry as usual, with some screen shot comparisons.

Big thanks to both of you!

The Games and Apps section and the phone app didn't work at all for me, but the Microsoft Store app worked like a charm! Not sure what the issue was, but everything's downloading now!

And man, gotta say I'm super surprised Crackdown 3 is so small. 10.72 gigs for the Campaign? I expected the game to be in the 40 gb neighborhood at least.

Yep, the PC versions of 1&2 also got visual upgrades, and it's a big difference on modern systems. Infinite on consoles just runs like it did on PC on max settings, no big changes to that game specifically.

Any significant differences with the Bioshock collection from the 360 versions?

I just played through BioShock 1 collection remaster and one aspect I really enjoyed was the director's commentary reels you can find through the game, which are video interviews with the creators of BioShock talking about various aspects of the game. If it's your first playthrough don't watch them because they are full of spoilers, but since I was doing a replay it was a nice addition to the game.

BioShock 1 is the only campaign I've played through 3x in my life. Would you kindly tell me if these interviews are PiP as you move along? :D/ That would push it up 451 slots on the backlog.

SNIP to save some scrolling
It will be interesting if player level resets each season or if they have a separate battle pass level that resets that can unlock some crates.

It can't really be compared to a paid game like overwatch. Paying $30 on sale gives me the potential to unlock 90% of content in overwatch. Playing free in Apex currently gives the potential to unlock less than 10% of content and paying $30 gives me enough for 31 loot crates (so another less than 10% of content) or 1.6 specific skins in the store. We'll see how the free battle pass works out but if it's like other games I can't imagine you'll get many free crates every 3 months.

I guess that's just how the free to play model works and I'm not huge fan. Still enjoy the game and will probably pick up the battle pass next month if I'm still playing regularly.

EDIT: I will say though one thing I do like about the Apex model is that you supposedly can't get any repeat cosmetics.

Welp, those are games.
I own both of these Games digitally so...that's a win in my book.

In for Train Sim World, wouldn’t mind having Witcher but I’ve been at this long enough now to know I wouldn’t get to it till the end of the year, so maybe Black Friday..

Never had finished the Metro games. And not buying Exodus until I do. Went back to play 2033 and for some reason seems my progress is gone. Or maybe it was just the 360 version I played? Anyway, know this is the “remaster” but still looks damn good for an early X1 game. Had to double check if it had been X enhanced (it wasn’t).

Hmm. Spend expiring money on diablo 3 (already played so will sit till I replay it) or vampyr (future GWG fodder) or some other random thing?

Framerates are better, and textures are much higher resolution. They don't change any of the gameplay, including the clunky save system in Bioshock 1, but they sure are pretty. Also, to clarify, those are three, yes, THREE, incredible games. Bioshock 2 doesn't get enough credit for being a great game. Also, the Minerva's Den DLC is considered some of the best DLC ever for what that's worth...

i know there are people excited for that vampyr price.
There should be absolutely nobody excited for that price. It's worth a playthrough on gamepass or GWG, but definitely not for any of your money.

If you want to spend money, both Bioshock and Borderlands collections are $15. Cheaper and 10x better.

I've been waiting for witcher 3 complete to drop below $20. My first reaction seeing it at $15 was 'awesome!', the next thought, it's low enough now to be GwG.

Why do I do this to myself?
Even if it hits GwG you wouldn't get the DLC. Just get it and support the developers who made this awesome masterpiece.

i just can't CAN'T spend even $15 when I have all 3 x360 versions unplayed and they are backwards compatible. Infinite is just a port, correct?

60 FPS is the biggest upgrade. You can actually hit 60 FPS with the BC 360 version of because it has an unlock framerate option, but some of the physics on stuff in the environment get wonky. I never looked up the comparisons until now but they did improve some models and the like up to the PC standard, but they changed the lighting and some effects are missing, giving the game a different look. Details from Digital Foundry as usual, with some screen shot comparisons.

so it should be a locked 60fps on xbox one x, right? i wish they would revisit their analysis using the newer hardware.

Christ Almighty, how the fuck does Microsoft screw up so much? The 3rd console I've received just took a power dump. I was playing NHL 19 for half a hour and boom console turns itself off with no warning, I can't turn it back on at all. Tried waiting for 2 hours and a different outlet just in case and getting nothing. How the fuck do I get chat support only thing I'm getting is to wait on them to call me or tweet them.

How many people are getting the Witcher 3 complete now that it's on sale for $15 ?
I had some expiring credit from Microsoft Rewards so that was an easy purchase for me to make, $15 seems like a steal with all the DLC content included. If this game ever makes it to Games with Gold which I'm sure it eventually will, it will probably just end up being the base game so they can still make some money off the DLC.

I haven't been following your plight very closely, but have all of your consoles done the same thing?

I’m wondering now if it’s an electrical issue in your house.. 3 consoles that power off and or die. (From what I remember)

Either way, that sucks.

Are you using a surge protector? I remember MS said a while back that you shouldn't use one with the X1X. I use one with mine anyway, but it might have been an issue with certain models of surge protectors.

No, the first 2 would power on but I would have no picture or sound. This one I just got couple of weeks ago won't power on at all and this is the one that the box was smashed in on the top like something sharp and heavy hit it. Also yes I use a power surge for my electronics but I unplugged this one and plugged into a outlet and still nothing. Finally got a callback. I spoke to some guy and gave all my details when the xbox powered down and what steps I took. He put me on hold to talk to his manager since this is the 3rd console to mess up. He comes back and says they're going to send a new console that hasn't been used before and will do a follow up with the repair department and me once I send mine in. So yay I guess?

remember the rumors around this time last year about a Modern Warfare 2 remaster? wonder what happened with that
Activision is still pondering whether or not to bake it onto the disc of the next Call of Duty game cause they're greedy bastards. That or they'll make Modern Warfare 2 Remastered a part of a pre-order bonus or one of the special edition $99 packages this Fall.

I imagine it would be, it was nearly locked when I played on a base one, it just has those weird physics sometimes.

I've started to hear rumors about it being the campaign for the new game this year, which would be ridiculous.

Is anyone having any luck getting MS rewards to work right now? Redeem is broken AF at the moment. I checked on twitter and it seems like it’s a common issue, but I didn’t know if anyone here might have heard of any issues or known of any possible workarounds. Trying to redeem Xbox cash or gift cards just isn’t happening. I was able to do the $1 donation to Special Olympics with the MS match, so that’s a good thing at least, but I’d like to get some other stuff redeemed.

Every time I go to redeem, it says they need to verify my account, and I enter my phone number, then get a page that says “Something went wrong” and you start all over. I’ve tried multiple browsers and devices, and tried the text and call options. Very frustrating.
